Friday night date night took us to Bistro on 2nd Street in Cheraw, and it did not disappoint. Parker and I went for the shrimp po' boys, and they were absolutely loaded down with jumbo shrimp -- so much so that we had to take a few off just to close the sandwich. Ann went straight for her favorite, the shrimp and grits, because according to her, Bistro on 2nd Street has some of the best around. Ryleigh had the fried shrimp with waffle fries and slaw, and judging by how fast her plate disappeared, I'd say she approved. The food and service have been excellent every single time we've been there, and tonight was no exception. My Aunt, Uncle, Wife, and I visited the Bistro for the first time on a humid, sticky summer Saturday evening. Arriving at 6 p.m., we found plenty of street parking in front of the restaurant. The dining room was half full, and we were promptly seated. The dining room was a long and skinny space with a bar running down one side. It was not well-lit, and the candles on each table were not lit, which was a bit of a bummer. For a space with many hard services and high ceilings, the sound levels were surprisingly low, making it easy to converse at our table. We were warmly greeted by our server, who hooked us up with drinks. The drink menu had a good variety of beer, wine, and cocktails including numerous wines by the glass. The food menu had a good selection of dishes at various price ranges. My Aunt ordered the mushroom chicken pasta dish. She loved the chicken, pasta, and other bits but thought everything was drowned in the cream sauce. It did look more like soup to me when served to her. My wife went with shrimp and grits. She is a sucker for grits when traveling in the south. Her dish was just ok, and she had trouble finding the sautéed peppers and onions that were supposed to be in there My Uncle selected the special of the day, mahi-mahi. It was probably the best dish we ordered, and he loved it. I started with a house side salad that was very fresh and delicious. The ranch dressing was served very cold in a metal ramekin which was perfect. My entree of the grilled steak sandwich was disappointing. It just wasn't flavorful, and the sautéed veggies I picked for my side were served cold. Overall, it's a good place to eat in Cheraw, but there's plenty of room for improvement. read more

I've been here several times and each time it is nothing short of amazing. Everything checks out from the service to the food. Ambiance is nice. It is a nice size and the decor is up to date. But what really surprised me was to find such good food. Each. Time. The portions are good and the flavor is always there. Not sure if it is farm to table but it tastes like it. 5 star service and food! Ordered a Harvest Salad and Swiss mushroom burger with sweet potato waffle fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. The crunchy onions on top of salad were to die for and bacon perfectly cooked. Sweet potato waffle fries were the best I've ever eaten. The hamburger flavor and toppings hit the spot! read more

I apologize for not getting pictures of the food, but we were hungry, and it was good! I had the fried green tomatoes with a pimento cheese, jalapeño jam and bacon crumbs. (Real bacon). Perfect ratios. Perfectly cooked. Hubs had the shrimp and grits. Fried shrimp. The top of the grits had a coating already forming (like it was in the bowl for a while) but underneath was creamy goodness. Everyone in here is hustling and kudos to the chefs. It's a thankless job. Ok I've been here 3 time so far I don't go as often because the environment isn't very inviting for nonwhites just going to be honest. It's a nice looking restaurant/bar but VERY TINY don't think your bringing a bunch of ppl like more than 4 is too many. Ok getting to the food my drink was awful I asked for a drink that didn't taste like alcohol it was fully alcohol tasting so bartender sucked. The appetizer of crab cakes was the crown jewel a little too tiny but were so flavorful and fresh it was unbelievable. Now it's the opposite with that expensive ribeye steak. THE MOST UNFLAVORED STEAK IVE EVER HAD. If anyone says it's good they don't season their food with nothing not even salt and pepper. Such a shame bc it's a good cut of meat plus I asked for medium rare it was cooked Well Done but I waited so long I just ate it as is. That shrimp and "seasoned" butter did nothing to help the flavor. I eventually dumped A1 steak sauce to be satisfied. No season on the broccoli and the waffle fries over salted. All 3 times I've been there steak has NEVER BEEN SEASONED. Step it up, act like a real chef and make a steak season for that steak for Gods sake. Waitress was so sweet and very attentive. read more

Great atmosphere and food. Wait staff is always friendly. Service can be a little slow at peak times but that's to be expected. Every meal I've had has been wonderful. My favorite dish is Shrimp and Grits. We set here about twice a month. This is especially a great place to bring business associates or for special occasions. read more

Beautiful newly renovated restaurant in downtown Cheraw. I was amazed to find such a gem in little Cheraw. I was greeted at the door by the friendly hostess & seated right away. Our order was taken quickly & our appetizer was served within 10 minutes. The crab cakes were delicious. Clearly they spared no crabs on these! They were meaty, with little filling to take away from the flavor of the meat. The corn confetti added to the flavor of everything and just added an enhancement. The steaks came almost immediately after we finished the apps. My steak was perfectly grilled to rare. My only complaint was it lacked some salt sprinkle at the end of cooking. The chef did add a nice dollop of an herbal butter as a compliment, but it just wasn't quite enough to add the saltiness the steak needed. Nevertheless, the steak was perfectly cooked & for me, that's a plus on top of a plus. The steak my hubby had was a ribeye with mushroom gravy. The gravy added the saltiness, so he was completely satisfied. Once again, it was also cooked to perfection. Did I forget to mention the portion sizes?!? The steaks were huge! Bring your appetite! Anyway, overall, I was satisfied with our experience. I'm extremely pleased that Cheraw has such a beautiful new addition in the downtown area. read more

Very disappointed in this establishment. My boyfriend and I decided to dine in last night and the service we received was below average. After waiting longer than we should have for someone to come to our table, the server who eventually did seemed unenthused and unwelcoming. I'm from out of town, and was looking forward to experiencing Bistro on 2nd Street until last night. Upon entering, I felt like it was 1960 by the stares we received. Yes, it is a predominately white restaurant & no we are not. We took our money to Oslo's, where we were welcomed and our dollar appreciated. Will not be returning nor recommending. Bistro on 2nd Street is a wonderful new gem in downtown Cheraw. The staff was friendly when accommodating our party of six at 6:30 on Friday night. The ambiance was jazzy and inviting, the drinks were flowing and the atmosphere in the place was electric. There was a fantastic band playing jazz and the singer also played the upright bass. Kudos to the back of the house. The kitchen was a on point. We had portobello mushrooms, fried green tomatoes, shrimp on 2nd, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, ribeyes, scallops, and pimento cheese burgers. Everything we ate was hot, fresh and delicious. Great new spot in Cheraw! Well worth the drive from Bennettsville. We sat at the bar and the two female bartenders were very friendly and made the experience enjoyable. Delicious food and drinks including the filet, salmon, lemon drop martini and the tuna tartare special. read more
