Bistro Roca is an amazing spot! We love the decor, which is rustic but modern if that makes sense. The different seating options are also unique and bring a different ambiance to each section. Food is excellent. I LOVE the duck pizza pie. Honestly the best pizza in my book ever. My husband enjoyed his brisket saying it was tender and flavorful. The starter calamari was meaty and not overly breaded like many calamari! Great kids meals options!! We went to dinner here while in the area. It was a cozy setting with a great atmosphere inside. However, they sat us on the closed-in patio by a window which ended up being a little too chilly. For my dinner I ordered the Wood Fried Brussels. The Brussel sprouts were not caramelized like I had at other places but it was very good and probably healthier. There were a lot of good flavors with the beets, candied pepitas, pickled peppers and the saffron aioli. I would recommend this dish. Others at the table ordered the Cobb Salad, classic wedge with salmon, & the Artisan pizza. Unfortunately, the salmon was not completely cooked so it went uneaten. Two people in our party ordered diet cokes which were fountain drinks. The diet cokes were not good because there was no carbonation. The pizza and Cobb salad were good. If you eat here during the colder months, I recommend asking for a seat inside. That seemed like it would have been a cozier experience. read more

Bistro Roca is our Sunday Brunch go to spot when in Blowing Rock. Upscale ambience with eclectic choices on the menu make us go outside our comfort zone of choosing typical bacon and eggs breakfast. Service is fine given that it is a very busy and very popular destination. On this latest visit, the lettuce wrapped pork bbq style appetizer was clearly the table favorite. The brisket Benedict was the least favorite meal. While the meat was tender and cooked well, the portion served was very fatty and offset the rest of the flavor. This restaurant again served wonderful and delicious food well prepared and well served by our waitress Isabella (Bella to her friends). Added on a few years ago is an extension for more seating, obviously needed at the time of our reservation. For us, I selected a wine ($44 a bottle), Lola, from the California vineyard of the same name. I had never heard of The Vineyard but was quite satisfied with this Chardonnay which was soft on the pilot with a pineapple and almond taste would be my best guess. For my meal, I had the Black and Blue ribeye, which came on a shelf of mashed potatoes and crispy fried onions on top. The steak was cooked to perfection, as requested, a medium that is pink and warm in the middle. As the photo shows it was a large cut, delicious to the last bite, which drink some dying as I was hungry but it was a bit of a struggle to finish it all. You can tell that it was well charred on the extreme edges, with the char enhancing the tender meat. Oh yes, a place to dine, somewhat off the beaten path in Blowing Rock. Reservations are required. Eating in the bar is also enjoyable, but we ate in the large dining room at a table for two. Despite the 80+ temperature outside, our seating area was quite cool, but not chilly. read more

Bistro Roca is one of our absolute go-to spots in Blowing Rock. Whether you're grabbing lunch or sitting down for a relaxed dinner, it's consistently excellent. The food is always top notch and the vibe is welcoming and lively. Just make sure you get a reservation because the wait can be long, especially on weekends. One of the weirdly fun things about this place is that we almost always run into someone from Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach. It's happened so often it feels like a coastal reunion every time we're there. They used to have a drink called the Pain Don't Hurt and I still ask for it sometimes. If the bartender is game, it's worth it. One of the best cocktails I've ever had. The wood-fired pizzas are incredible and their specials never miss. The brisket is a standout. Also, we are definitely on a mission to get our dog Sunny's picture on the wall in the bar area with all the other dogs and their humans. Wife choice Wagu flat iron: Overall rating- 2/5 Price:$75 but that changes daily #1 reason for the rating is it was just really disappointing for the price and experience we were sold on when we asked about the dish. The price of the dish is not displayed on the menu so you have to ask before you order and we were told the Wagu would melt and would not even require a knife to cut it. 1) The price was $75 before tax which we thought was steep but hey you pay for what you get so we thought well it's Wagu let's go for the experience. 2) The Wagu itself did not feel like a premium cut, the texture was tough (and we did it the way the waiter recommended which was medium rare) so you had to really chew the steak and the steak had no flavoring. 3) the truffle sauce that came with it was way to strong and honestly could not enjoy it and my wife loves truffles. 4) potatoes were meh 5) asparagus was good but I mean it would be pretty hard to mess that up haha My choice: The black and blue Overall rating 5/5 I really enjoyed this dish and happy I got it! It was a very tender medium rare steak with good flavoring! Mash potatoes underneath were good so was the crispy onions and horse radish sauce. Overall the experience was good but with the huge disappointment from the Wagu dish it kinda dragged the dinner down feeling like we got scammed. Our family loved our recent visit to this homey, rustic, farm-to-table restaurant near downtown Blowing Rock. Bistro Roca feels like a log cabin deep in the North Carolina high country, with a roaring hearth, cozy booths and a bar that looks like a Scottish tavern. Dog lovers will adore the 'family' portraits that adorn the walls, and wine connoisseurs will love the extensive selection of Reds, Whites and everything in between. There's also a terrific list of local brews on tap, as well as an impressive menu of cocktails. The dinner entrees range from burgers and wood fired pizzas to steaks, salads and fish. My plate of Mountain Trout was delicious, and our kids shared a pizza that was big enough for 3. Service was outstanding throughout our visit, and the restaurant is close enough to downtown to be reached in a short walk. If you come in the summer or early fall, be sure to ask for a table on the spacious screened porch. Bistro Roca is a place we'll be visiting whenever we stay in Blowing Rock. Cozy ambiance, great service and delicious food! I had the mussels in garlic white wine as a main course and the broth was so good with fresh baguette. I love this place. I was introduced by a friend who has a family mtn house in Blowing Rock. Not on the main street of Blowing Rock, but easily walkable and near to the parking deck. The bar area is wonderfully decorated with black and white pictures of dogs. A nice ambiance in the evening is set throughout. The bar tenders are great, and helpful with questions about their speciality cocktails & great at making the classics. Their menu runs with the seasons, and they support local farms & businesses. Bistro Roca has been one of our favorite restaurants. As summer visitors to the Boone area, we have enjoyed dining there on special occasions. This evening, we had a reservation for dinner at 5:15. As requested, we were seated on the "back porch," with open windows. The ambiance was great. Our server was pleasant. And the food - as always - was delicious. As we were finishing our dinner, I had one sip of wine left. After settling our bill, and leaving a generous tip, we were rudely interrupted by our server, who asked us to vacate our table, with an offer to move to the bar. I finished my wine, and we departed. As we were leaving, we counted 14 vacant tables - nearly half of the restaurant. We asked to speak to the manager - a young lady - who advised us that as a table for 2, we were allowed one hour and 15 minutes at this table to dine. We told her that - as septuagenarians - never in our lives have we ever been asked to vacate a table before we finished our meal. Apparently, their business model is all about money. Diners be damned. This was our second great disappointment in as many visits. On our previous visit, it was very crowded and we were seated at the bar, which was very noisy. When we raised our hand to try to attract the attention of the bar tender, she was extremely rude, chastising us as if we were recalcitrant children, and admonishing us NOT to raise our hands to attract her attention, and that it was rude of us to do so. She immediately turned and walked away, without telling us how we were supposed to let her know that we were ready to order. Notwithstanding, we left her a good tip. Again, we have never been treated so rudely in any restaurant. I would not expect this from such an established restaurant in Blowing Rock. I am VERY disappointed by all of this extremely rude treatment, and do not think that I will return. read more

An intimate bar adorned with framed black and white photos of dogs (!). A garden style back porch with open air windows letting in that cool mountain breeze: we literally saw a mom & baby fawn out the window during an idyllic brunch. Try the Cobb salad, the pastas, pizzas, and cocktails! All sublime. Mac & Cheese is a winner, and the menu is diverse - something for everyone. Our service was great and we would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Blowing Rock area. Protip: walk to town from the restaurant afterwards and enjoy the scenery on foot. Don't be fooled, this restaurant food sucks. It's amateurish at best. They are arrogant about it because they have some following and they are busy. We went for Father's Day dinner. My Rabbit was horrible. I should have sent it back at the beginning but didn't because I didn't want to make a scene with our friends and it had taken about 30 mins for the food to come out, so I suffered through it. We started with the calamari and it was ok. Small portion. My friend had the trout, pathetic. My wife had the pork "ribeye" also blah. She took half home and threw it away. My friends wife had the lobster Mac. That was ok. We had a bottle of wine special that was $35 and that was nice, but the dinner we picked up and it was $260 for a meal that I could cook 10x better myself at home and did a few days later, check the pics. Pathetic Resturant, typical, they gain some popularity and then they drive it to crap. I emailed them twice to vent my frustration on ruing my Father's Day dinner but they just blew me off and never responded. So I wrote the truth of our experence here. read more

I live in Blowing Rock and love the ambiance of Bistro Roca, and I am always impressed with the courteous and competent service. But I also am always disappointed when I dine there because, as a vegetarian, the menu has nothing protein-forward to eat. ALL SEVEN salads are NOT vegetarian (seriously? Vegetarians rely on the salad portion of menus, especially when their friends or beloveds are carnivores). Even the incredibly wonderful-sounding "Roasted Acorn Squash" salad with quinoa, squash, kale, pickled cherries, maple sage, and pomegranate seeds is NOT vegetarian because they cook the quinoa in beef tallow. Why do that? Why not offer at least one salad that is completely vegetarian? The falafel burger on the menu also is NOT vegetarian because it's grilled on the same grill as beef burgers and so is "cross-contaminated". In 2025, when being vegetarian is not at all unusual, it just seems rude to have a clearly vegetarian burger that is, alas, not available simply because the kitchen can't figure out how to cook it without splashing it with beef juice (ahem; how about *baking* it in the oven??). The ONE vegetarian "entree" on offer is macaroni and cheese, served in a tight bowl with some broccolini and an egg on top. It was fine, meh. But I am not a child. I don't want mac and cheese for my once a week dinner out on the town. I should add that Bistro is not alone in this problem. Being vegetarian in Blowing Rock is like being vegetarian anywhere in the USA in 1980. The staff look at you like you're some kind of alien. I'd skip the regular establishments and patronize the Asian restaurants, but alas, they too are mediocre at best. I wish the accomplished chefs of Blowing Rock would give just a tiny bit of thought to us vegetarians and a tiny gesture of culinary respect on their menus. read more

My lunch here was really good. I tried to have dinner here on Friday evening but could not get in. So befoe I left Blowing Rock on Saturday a friend and I tied again. We were able to get in before our reservation which was great. Our server was very sweet and the place is quaint. My lunch was great and Beth really enoyed her clams.
