I thought the cheese fondue used here would include some Dutch cheese, but they were all French ones. Either way, fondue and other French food items on the menu were mostly well-executed. There was a heavy alcohol taste in the mushrooms fondue sauce, even after being heated for awhile, so that tasted off-balance (1 star off). However, the melon-watermelon-herbs salad and duck breast with grilled potatoes and roasted carrots were delicious. If you want to take a break from traditional Dutch cuisine, but still want a lot of cheese, this is your place. read more

I probably would not have come to Bistrot des Alpes if not for my girlfriend wanting to try it. Yeah I get that this is traditional French Alps-style food, it just really didn't hit for me. Had the Escargot as the starter, the Risotto for main, and the Raclette au Four. Escargot was fine, no complaints there. I just couldn't eat the Risotto at all, the Pont Leveque cheese was way too sharp for what I wanted to eat at that time and gave up on it pretty quickly. They literally brought out an oven for the Raclette, which came out with a variety of cold cuts, and you'd put the cheese on a pan to essentially heat it up. I mean it was fine, but this wasn't particularly something I would've wanted for dinner. Service is fine, no complaints from me on that end. Very nice people here. Again, not my cup of tea as it just isn't something that I would want to eat. But it was fine for what it is and I recognize that. read more

Perfect food, lovely atmosphere (Alpine able car included), and courteous service make this a must try when in Amsterdam. The restaurant is a bit far from the main tourist circuit (which is certainly positive), but still in walking/biking distance. We arrived before the restaurant was open with no reservations and got lucky to find a table - all the other tables had reservations and we saw a few walk-ins turning around as the place could not host more people. With that said, I would definitely recommend reserving a table if you can. We ordered the fondue, a duck terrine, and a pumpkin and chestnut soup. Everything was fantastic! For dessert, we tried the creme brûlée and a Mas Amiel Dessert wine that were also outstanding. Highly recommended! read more

The chef is from the town of Annecy in the French Alps. My wife and I are obsessed with really good fondue, and this place does it as well as anybody, anywhere. Perfect fondue Savoyarde. Two tables next to us had the Raclette, which comes with a little coal oven to melt it, and they seem to do that perfectly too. The Tartiflette also looked amazing, and I might even go back just to try that. Had and excellent, reasonably priced Vacqueras wine to go with it. The setting is charming, all wood walls, with an old ski gondola near the entrance. The service was impeccable. Could not recommend this place more highly. read more

You should definitely try this place when you are in Amsterdam. It's not a touristic place, more like a local restaurant. First we ordered a corn soup with shrimps and ham, which came with some homemade bread. Main course was raclette and as a side dish they brought salad and baked baby potato with it. The cool thing is they are bringing cooking stuff to your table in order to melt the cheese and create your own dish as you wish (with ham or beef). Later, we ordered their new desert as citrus merengue with chopped strawberries and chocolate sticks. All of them were perfect and we enjoyed it a lot. Overall price is quite affordable and they also have good glass wine. Lastly, service was amazing, both waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Overall, must go place. read more

Holy ****, this place is amazing! Me and my boyfriend went for a walk in Amsterdam, we went down a quiet street by the canals, and there it was! "Bistrot des Alpes". At the time the place was closed, but since i'm vegetarian, and it seemed like they had a good vegetarian dish, we went back in the evening, with no expectations. We just thought that it was some standard french restaurant, but when we walked in, we were met by this cozy ski/mountain themed restaurant. - the service was amazing! Two really nice fremch and englishspeaking ladies were the waitress' this evening. Water and bread was free, and they happily gave you refill on those things. We also got some really good liquor after paying, and some french candy (since i love free stuff, this was just my place) - then to the food! We started with a cheeseplatter with some really nice french cheeses. I got a risottoinspired pasta dish (vegetarian) and it was manifique! My boyfriend got the fish of the day, and he told me that it was the best food he have had in years! Also the food was served really nicely! We also had a glass of wine and some beers and ended up paying 71 euros, which isn't a lot compared to what we got. Definately recommending this place to all my friends and all of you reading this!! Absolutely outstanding restaurant. I would recommend the fondue. The flavor is delightfully complex, and obviously CHEESY! You keep going back for more and more. Even after you're full. Please wait for the cheese to cool a bit before consuming. I burned the roof of my mouth on the first bite (and then all the subsequent bites). They serve it alongside a little green salad with balsamic vinaigrette (in a mason jar!) Very cute and simple and delicious. It helps cut the richness of the fondue. I also had the escargot, very garlicky and fabulous spooned onto a small piece of bread. My husband and I were pretty drunk while we were eating here and the staff was very friendly about it! I love this authentic alpine bistro in the heart of Amsterdam. The decor is laid out so that you can easily imagine yourself somewhere in the Swiss Alps which makes it also much easier to order the great authentic dishes they serve. The hosts are charming and accommodating whilst maintaining a good balance between formal and relaxed service. We've been there twice. The first time the food was excellent and so was the service. The second time we've placed a reservation. After we got our seats we waited a long time to receive the menu card. The aperitif was served after the drinks. The waitress did not notice us anymore. Service can be fine but you need to go there early. We got the impression that the fondue was not as good as the first time, too. read more

Outstanding place for some genuine Savoie style food. The wine is sourced from around the Aix-les-Bains area of Savoie (I go on holiday there and buy the same wines). All the ingredients are brought in from the region and the decor really makes you feel back in the alps. The owners speak French (and Dutch and English) so it's a real home away from France. read more

The owners are on site, serving and cooking.
