My dad also lived in Houston and we'd often do shopping or eating at the mall. My daughter (who is now 30) loved (& still does) skating at the ice rink during the holidays. It's a magically fun experience. The Galleria is always incredibly decorated for the holidays. I still get to Houston 1-2 times a year and always enjoy visiting The Galleria. The Galleria itself has not only the ice rink but office space, two hotels, lots of places to eat, and shopping. The retail offerings range from shops like H&M, Macy's, and Nordstrom to high-end luxury shops like Gucci & Chanel. We were there just a few months ago and it was just as fun and exciting as my first visit! Gang, there are so many stores here. Like crazy amounts (a few hundred). Luxury retailers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton share space with more accessible brands such as Banana Republic and American Eagle, offering something for nearly every budget and style. Whether you're on a focused shopping mission or simply window-shopping, there's plenty to explore...even if, in our case, we left empty-handed. The convention center was strategically right across the street from our hotel. My friends and I decided to attend a women's body building conference at George R. Brown convention center. We have all toyed with the idea of participating in a bodybuilding contest. Then you think about the strict clean eating, intense workout routines and the number of supplements you dump into body, then you press the pause button. We found our way into the arena where the women's bodybuilding contest was taking place. The room was filled with anticipation, admiration, and respect. When the athletes stepped on stage, the entire space seemed to zero in on them...their massively lean bodies, muscle definition and their practiced poses. While we watched with admiration, none of us committed to pull the trigger on body building. The George R. Brown Convention Center provided the perfect backdrop to explore the possibility of bodybuilding. In addition, we perused the vendors present associated with fitness. It is always a part of growing as an individual when explore new possibilities.

Bathrooms were kept clean but they could use an update with some barriers and some spacing. There were lots of water filling stations and the staff kept up with refilling things like coffee and drinks they were providing. Lunch provided in the convention hall was done well. It was "lunch" fare for sure with sandwiches and salads and stuff like that, but they kept everything organized in feeding a bunch of attendees. I ate at both Pappadeux's and Saltgrass which are connected to the Convention Center and both were excellent choices.

There is a lot of room to walk around and explore and since it wasn't particularly busy during our visit, we were able to take our time looking through everything without feeling rushed. There weren't any events happening while we were there, so the overall atmosphere was fairly quiet. I could see the appeal of coming back when there is an event happening, as I imagine the space has a much livelier energy when it's being used for its full range of activities. We primarily went to check out the POST Market, which has a food court style setup with different cuisines and food options. (I'll be reviewing each of the places we tried separately.) The selection was varied, although I wouldn't describe it as particularly extensive. Unfortunately, the food experiences we had were consistently overpriced and underwhelming, which made the overall trip feel fairly uneventful. This was probably one of the more disappointing aspects of the visit. Considering the market wasn't particularly busy when we went, I was surprised by how many tables were sticky or visibly dirty. The washrooms were also in fairly rough shape and could have used more attention. The condition of the common areas was noticeably below what I would have expected from a venue of this size. Parking was convenient and free for the first hour, with charges of $6 applying after that. Overall, POST Houston was a pretty average experience for me. The history and character of the building, along with its open industrial design and natural light, are what stood out most positively. Based on our experience, I wouldn't make a trip back specifically for the POST Market. That said, I'd be interested in coming back for an event to see how different the atmosphere is when the space is busier and there is more happening. Hopefully, more businesses continue to move into the space as well, giving people more options for shopping and dining and creating a livelier overall experience.
