The schedulers treated the employees very poorly and there was a big disconnect with matching employees to patients/families. I was very surprised their pool of help was so lousy before the pandemic. I hate to imagine what it is like now. Their help was a revolving door for filling 4 hour shifts. It was exhausting to train the warm bodies they sent out. They finally worked with other agencies when they were short staffed which helped. I think they tried to keep morale up for some employees with parties but it seemed to encourage lots of gossip among caregivers about patients. There were about 5 great caregivers but the rest had attitudes, didn't want to follow directions, slept or sat and watched TV. The caregivers wouldn't walk my dad 15 feet with a gait belt, even the men! We didn't shop around with other agencies to compare but the best chances of getting better caregivers with an agency is to request 8 hour shifts, few weekends and few evenings. This probably works best for working families but not for us. We did need 24/7 care for a month and it was mostly poor quality with little coordination among workers with the exception of 2 employees I'll be forever grateful for. Corporate filled in for staffing shortages and helped immensely too; I'm not sure if other agencies could do this. Overall, the workers did nothing to encourage independence or engage with the patients much. We had one caregiver try to raise her payrate by saying my mom needed more assistance even though I was there. However, I think all agencies have most of these issues to some extent. I'd recommend installing cameras because some things went missing. Luckily, friends recommended non agency caregivers and everyone thrived after that.

It's taken me awhile to write this review. In August, my father, who had been battling cancer for…read moreseven years, finally gave us his fight & came home to die in peace. My mother, sister & I would be his caregivers for the next two weeks. We had zero idea what we were doing, what to expect, what we were in for. We hired another home healthcare company previously & it was an *awful* experience during the one time of our lives we weren't emotionally equipped to deal with an awful experience. At my wit's end with this other company, I stood outside on my parents' porch at 6pm on a Saturday & called PHC, fully expecting to get voicemail or an answering service to leave a message with & have my call returned on Monday. But no, a REAL person answered (Angelo--fitting since he turned out to be our angel, lol), listened to my story of family crisis, took only my first name, phone number & parents' address & told me someone would be at their house in 90 minutes to assess the situation & get us a competent caregiver THAT NIGHT. During that 90 minutes, unbeknownst to me until later, he lined up 24/7 care for my Dad--without even knowing my last name, without taking my credit card number, without me signing a contract. His colleague, Diana, arrived 90 minutes later, as promised, & got us squared away. Their caregiver showed up as promised & the others did as well all the days that followed--with Diana texting or emailing me just to check in & see how we were doing. All were caring, competent professionals. It was clear PHC treats their staff better than the average healthcare company because they were pulling the cream of the crop in the way of caregivers. We ended up having my Dad transferred to Evelyn's House five days later because we were unable to keep him comfortable at home but during our days before that, this company & their staff made our family feel loved, supported & cared for. It's very clear that their hearts are in the right place. I could not recommend them more highly for any time in your life you might need some extra hands--recovering from a surgery or injury, end-of-life care, etc. GOOD PEOPLE.
