This BJ's location is the closest driving. I guess the weather plays a big part on how crowded BJ's can get at times. This afternoon I was surprised to see how fast the lines were moving and less people. Found my Pink Princess and Wizard plant at a very great price. $12 dollars each. Typically, at your local Home Depot can range anywhere from $20 - $30 dollars. Also, BJ's brought back the box of fresh King Crab legs. Great price. I usually buy what I need in bulk to avoid having to buy it from Target. Can't complain about the prices. Produce at times can be a hit or miss. I'm suggest check your produce before you buy to avoid some spoiled ones. For the most part fruits are fresh and at a good price. read more

The lines here can be super long. I went here before with a friend a few times and after our first visit it has been order pick ups ever since. Today, we opted for the curbside pick up and this was the best experience so far. All you do is park in the designated spots, going to the app and check in, note what type of vehicle (color and size), and that's it. The associate brings out your groceries and you can have them pack it in your trunk or what I did come and arrange it yourself. The process is so convenient especially if you have a lot to do or just don't have the patience to wait in line. read more

The most convenient feature is the easy access Dunkin Donuts. It's appears larger than the other locations with plenty of parking and a truly separate drive-in pickup area. It's also well lit and always has plenty of carts. Definitely worth the trip even if you live closer to the other chaotic locations. read more

I Love This BJ's!!! I come here at least once a week and the staff whoever I'm dealing with are always professional courteous and knowledgeable. They have a large wide array of food from different cultures as well as the clothes for men women and children, towels, patio furniture, and Beer. They also bake and prepare custom cakes they make their own bread on premises and many of their desserts. Everything comes out and looks fresh. Their prices are wonderful! And they always have a large variety of things on sale. The store is incredibly clean and well organized I think the management is doing a great job. It's so easy to go there and spend 500 but then those things that you purchased you don't need to buy for quite some time. Always savings.! Ordered a custom birthday cake here for my sons 2nd birthday. They have plenty of selections and flavors. You will need to place the order 24-48hours in advance. I was surprise how good the cake came out. There's a big parking lot at gateway therefore, parking is not an issue. But, like all of the BJ's and Costco, they get really packed and the lines gets pretty long. When I went to place my cake order on a weekday, it was better and the staff was helpful with helping me with picking a design and how to fill out the form. The day I went to pick up the cake was a Saturday, the place was very packed. It took me more than 30min just to pick up the cake and wait on line to pay. For the price of the cake, it can't go wrong. For this kind of cake, bakeries will charge you $50-70 but, I got it for less than $30. read more

I stopped at BJs Gateway to buy motor oil and there were NO customers at the 15 or less self checkout, and the BJs employee told me that I have to wait on the line.. I told him I have one item which he saw in my hand. The long was super long and those people had their carts filled with items, they were not going to the 15 or less checkout. I left the item and purchased motor oil elsewhere. Very bad customer service. I visited the BJs in Bensonhurst, and never had to stand on a long line with one item. I guess, their manager knows how to delegate task better than Gateway. read more

I found most the items I was looking for, except a 3 cleaning products, toilet paper, paper towel. This is the first time BJs is out of stock on certain products. For it's purpose, this BJ's Wholesale Club is massive, and gets the job done. I've been a long standing customer and have been loyally (more so conveniently) been visiting this particular location for probably over a decade now. Cash registers are always chaotic. I recommend coming early morning to avoid the massive crowds. There's never more than 5 registers open, even on the weekends, and the lines are fairly long. Cashiers however, do move at a reasonable pace, and your wait time is at most 10 minutes. It's mostly the customers that slow the process down with the fact that they're unprepared and cutting their coupons once they reach their turn to check out. STAFF: Staff do their best to keep the store running as smoothly as possibly. I don't recall any negative encounters or poor customer service, but they could stand to put some more effort in appearing friendlier. I understand their jobs are probably hellish but cracking a smile never killed me when I used to work in the service industry. CLEANLINESS: Aisles and main floors are usually always cleared and clean, however I will occasionally find trash in the aisles where products are. By trash I mean empty sample cups that were probably given out in the grocery section of the store. They should try to implement trashcans at the ends of every other aisle to prevent this from happening? PARKING: Plenty of parking. Gateway is nothing but open space with more than enough space to accommodate the masses even during peak hours. CARTS: Usually strewn haphazardly across the parking lot. The carts are huge and most if not all of them, have one wheel that doesn't roll until you get inside. Security measure due to incidences of people stealing the carts. I wish their system worked better because lately, all the carts I've been getting are difficult to navigate as the one wheel doesn't ever start rolling. FOOD-COURT: The pizza and hotdogs are no more! I discovered today they've been replaced with a Dunkin Donuts. I don't mind, just not sure how long ago this transition happened, I don't really pay much attention when I'm rushing to finish errands but I intended to pick up some food today and was surprised at the change in food chains. Just a heads up for regulars! Overall, shopping here is a necessity for my family and their coupons and prices are truly helpful in saving money. I get the coupon book mailed to my home, and as long as you're prepared and realistic about the time you're going to get your weekly shopping done, then this location is just fine. My only issue is the neighborhood due to fellow customers that shop here are more often than not, inconsiderate and rude. The neighborhood is extremely slow in gentrifying but there's plenty of potential for Gateway and this location is sure to flourish over the years. For now, it's not that bad, but not something to brag about. If I discover anything negative in any of my future visits, I'll be sure to update my review! read more

I understand that it is a busy location - as with most businesses on a weekend. I also notice that many reviews talk about this place as being really hectic, yes. However, I think it is important to point out to management that the workers/cashiers are very unprofessional. As said before, it is understandable that there are challenges on weekends with the abundance of customers, long lines and what it seems like endless hours... BUT it is also essential to maintain a level of customer service - not attitudes and rudeness to others. I mean, if people are unhappy with their jobs, they should really seek and pursue better opportunities. Meanwhile, this place is really busy for a fact. BJs charges excessive NY sales tax because they illegally charge the tax on the original price even when the items are discounted by the store and NOT the manufacturer. NY state tax law suggests that the tax can be levied on original price when the discount is a manufacturer initiated discount/coupon but not when it's a seller's discount. The people that work at this place act like they don't want to work. I went and picked up a few things at the deli and the girl who cut my meat and cheese cut them so thick that a pound was like 3 slices. Then when I went to check out an item didn't want to scan due to the girl at the deli rubbing the barcode off. When someone came to assist me it was a nasty girl by the name of Emmonie. She didn't know what the hell she was doing and what made it worst she was rude and nasty as hell. She called someone else to help and she walked away. The guy wasn't any nicer. No curbside pick up . Placed an order online for 1 item (paper towel ) went to the store to be told I had to wait on a HUGE line to go in the store . BJ's as a chain is great. I love BJ's. It beats Costco any day if you ask me. Plus they let you pay with any credit card or cash. And they give you coupons. How can you beat that. But this is a review for this particular location. So here goes... Ok - this place I guess is a last resort if you happen to be in the mall already shopping. This is the closest BJs to my house - but I would rather trek to the one in Valley Stream. The employees and the store itself are fine. But the people that shop at this particular store and this particular mall - well... I used to go here but got tired or getting constantly rammed with someone elses cart and having my feet run over. They also push the carts right into the back of your ankle - at least twice per visit. I don't think these people have ever used a shopping cart before. Plus EVERY time I went I verbally got into an argument with someone trying to cut me on line. Once I even had to physically take the woman's cart and push it away myself. (Born and bred in the rougher parts of NYC - don't mess with me. : - ) So unless you are desperate - avoid this store. The other stores in the mall are nice enough - but again the same people shop at the other stores as well. If you go to the clothing store - it is like a mindfield - you will be contantly stepping over clothes and merchandise that people have thrown on the floor. Walmart is a bit better here - so is Home Depot - and Babies are Us. I would generally avoid the other stores completely - especially BJ's - just to avoid the people. read more

Welfare Warfare! I am a vegetarian, so I buy the same twigs and berries every week from different grocers. I shop at 2 BJ's regularly and the prices are generally the same. But this BJ's in Gateway... They price gouge! I have receipts to prove this. My 2.49 cantaloupe was 2.99. My 1.69 bananas were 1.99 etc... THIS ADDS UP! I believe the reason for this is twofold. Firstly, it's surrounded by the McDonalds of Italian and seafood (Olive Garden and Red lobster) as well as a host of businesses such as a massive Home Depot, Marshall's, Best Buy, Staples, Target, etc. So my first observation is that they are eating off of what the other businesses generate. You went to Best buy to buy a TV... why not pick up a couple of things from BJ's... You won't even realize you're paying more. AND IN THE SAME VEIN, THE TARGET SUCKS TOO Second is what I describe as "Welfare Warfare". This neighborhood has a huge number of project and low income housing surrounding it. It's within walking distance of the complex. I think they are priced above the other BJ's (even above the one right in Carnasie) because most of the patrons are paying with EBT. And what do these people care, it's not their money. (DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT FEEL THAT WAY, BUT I THINK THIS IS HOW FOLKS ARE BEING VIEWED AND THEREFORE EXPLOITED) AND IN THE SAME VEIN, THE TARGET SUCKS TOO. BJ's Wholesale is a great place to go when you need to save a few bucks and buy in bulk. I only get things that will not expire or go bad soon, since it is only my wife and I. I mean I got a huge tub of Olive Oil for $19, in the supermarket a small one was $9.99 Also got other items like pasta,sauce,cat items,chicken breast and of course some spicy boneless bbq hot wings. Get there early, we went at 9am on a Sunday, which means it gets busy within an hour. We were out by 10am, and the place was getting busier. $48 to sign up for a 12 month membership. Well worth the trip, since you save so much money buying certain items in bulk. It is located in the Gateway Mall, with Target,Circuit City, Marshalls and Home Depot. read more

It is always crowded, but that is to be expected at this type of establishment. They have plenty of deals for the savvy shopper. The reason I gave one star is because they have self checkout lines, which seems great in theory, but so eying is always going wrong and the red light for assistance is always blinking. This establishment has decided to staff the self checkout lines with the most unfriendly people. It is as thought the people working in this section were told to be rude, belittling and and act as though they are doing you a favor by doing their job and a sneering the calls for help. I realize that working in this type of establishment you encounter all types of people, but to assign the hardest people to help People is not a recipe for success.
