BJ's is a great alternative to Costco if you have one closeby. This particular one, other than being convenient to me, is not the best one. I personally prefer the BJ's on Route 17 since they have a liquor section and more expansive aisle, but this will have to do when I'm in a rush. I generally can find all my items here in bulk, minus some specialty items. On weekends they tend to have food demos so you can try out some new items. A big issue here is finding a cart. Way too often, you'll have to wait outside and see if anyone is finished loading their car trunks, to ask to use their shopping cart. Another issue I generally find are long lines when when shopping on a weekday/midday, even today! Once I completed checkout, there was yet another line. There was a greeter checking your receipts to see if you missed any items and although this doesn't usually take too long it took a couple of minutes to fill the backlog. This BJ's will get you your essentials, but don't expect the best service here. read more

This BJs is located in a busy plaza of Kearny, super crowded in the weekend, difficult to find parking close to the entrance of the store. But the store itself was mostly organized, most items were available and we were able to find them easily using the app. We bought toilet papers ($8 coupon for 2x), stuffing, cranberry sauce, eggs, halos, capri sun, sardines and ice melt. Love the wholesale prices plus additional saving with coupons, main reason for us to come to BJs. The 50 lbs ice melt was only $23.99 but such good quality. The self checkout lanes were little mismanaged, as I couldn't tell where to wait in line. Luckily there was no waiting, so I went to one of the kiosks right away, but there was no scanning gun. So I had to manually scan the barcode of each item, including the 50 lbs ice melt bucket. I also saw people waiting in line, though there were empty kiosks around me, until one of the associate finally noticed and started to guide them. read more

Online delivery orders not being delivered during the promised time frame. They don't answer phone and the 800 customer service reps are no help, even the supervisor is clueless. Their answer is to give me the number for DoorDash, trying to put blame on the driver. My answer was and is: this is a BJs problem, not a DoorDash problem. This store has gone down hill. An item had a barcode smudge and I asked for assistance. I had just waited in line, at a big store and the lazy assistant said, "you need to find another one." I tried explaining that I am the customer and I am supposed to be right, but he is too lazy. The lady that checks receipts was checking every single item and making the second line go longer. Bjs always come through for me with delivery options available or even in store. What I love about this place most is that they always have digital coupons you can preload to your card for deals. They also accept manufacturers' coupons too. They have a huge walk in that you could literally stroll for hours. Rarely, they have samples of random items throughout the store. It's better to go mid week if you're trying to avoid long lines and large crowds. Weekends are for the gangster shoppers who don't mind being on mile long lines. The produce is mostly fresh and filled to the brim. Veggies and fruits are neatly stacked. They have a decent cheese area. Plenty of frozen and fresh goods and the prices sometimes go up and down but usually still much cheaper to buy in bulk. I have done my shopping with BJs and without it and let me say it's always better with it. The workers here work very hard and customer service is good. It can be chaotic at times depending on the day but it's always worth it. Great selections, great prices. read more

Hello, First let me preface with the refund issue has been going on for a month now. I just received a call from the BJ's Kearny, NJ location. The individual named Shadara asked me to once again repeat the reason for my return which I have done numerous numerous times. Apparently the ticketing system being used to field issues, concerns, refunds etc lacks efficiency. Nevertheless, she proceeded to ask me the same question that has continuously been asked of me, was the item purchased in store, what item. I provided all the information for the 11th time and she then proceeded to say the item was opened we cannot accept it. My qualm is obviously I had to open it in order to use it, additionally it was only when I attempted to use when I was faced with the defectiveness. As I have repeatedly mentioned my first attempt was I reached out to Turbo Tax Support and they advised it was defective and as it was purchased in a store I would need to return the item to the merchant. Which is what I attempted to do, when faced with the rude, dismissiveness and quite frankly unprofessional response from the individual at the customer service counter. At the point, what really to me is the unprofessionalism and incompetency of the staff, the repetitive and ignorant questions. I am going to resign with just filing a complaint with the better business bureau, corporate office, google/yelp review platforms etc. I work in advertising and the unprofessionalism and run around that has been extended to me is quite appalling. LOCKDOWN & INSTACART REVIEW: The Kearny location offers grocery delivery service with Instacart and will go to customers in downtown Newark. I tried the service for the first time last Thursday, and I recommend it if you are BJ's member. My shopper was awesome and we communicated over text while she was shopping and while on her way to deliver. I told her this was my first time doing this, and we figured out the safest/best approach to delivery for both of us over text. Also, automatically, Instacart updates you on whether certain items that you put on your shopping list were available or if a substitute was selected. Most of our fresh produce selections were not available and were refunded, but everything else was available or there was a substitute (which you approve). Overall good experience - Will do this again most likely. If you do this, please remember to tip your shopper well for taking such risks and precautions during these COVID days. Wow can't believe I haven't written a review for BJs yet! I come here all the time, it's such a great addition to Kearny. Huge parking lot so I never find parking to be an issue. As soon as you walk in there's an eye glass center and a Dunkin' Donuts. You can start your shopping trip with a coffee if you're feeling up to it. I don't recommend the eye doctor here. I came when they first opened up for a pair of glasses because they were running a special and they never felt right when I put them on, the prescription was off. They might have switched doctors since then but I haven't been back. The store itself is fabulous. Tons of products, great prices and a friendly enough staff. Their brand is great too, just yesterday I stopped in for contact solution and they had three bottles for 10 dollars. Which had the same ingredients as BioTrue solution which was double the price. Fantastic selection of seltzer waters at really affordable prices. Awesome deli counter and the bakery is to die for when you need a last minute gesture for a party. Definitely recommend going in to check it out if you live near the area. Very much worth the membership price. read more

This review is solely based upon app mobile pickup orders. I have never personally shopped in store. Never had an issue with my order being incorrect. Staff was always friendly to me and checking out was a breeze with security. I normally shop in store at the E.Rutherford location, but right now I would rather take advantage of the reduced sales tax as it's same distance for me . Just wish I could add on perishable goods that maybe they can pick when you go to get your order? I'll add pics after my 5th pickup tomorrow. read more

Possibly the worst warehouse store that I've ever been in. Just not a pleasant experience at the location in Kearny. Twice I went to the customer service line. The first time, I waited for 5-6 minutes for the 3 associates to interact and joke around before one signaled me to come to the counter. The second time I was trying to inquire about the promotion which I should have qualified for...she told me that this promotion wasn't working well and gave me a number to call. Checking out took over 20 minutes and when an additional register was opened, the cashier took those at the end of the line as opposed to customers who were next. Really? Doubt that I will be back. I've been going to this BJ's for a good three months now. For a wholesale club, checkout is pretty fast. I would recommend going during the week, as weekends tend to be a zoo. Cashiers are usually very chatty and friendly. My only "issue" with this place is the layout. Im always wandering around trying to locate a product. But I guess this is a part of me being unfamiliar with the store? Anyway, there is always parking. Parking lot is big, but tight, if that makes any sense. People can be so careless sometimes, so be careful with how an where you park. read more

I came here bc I got a coupon in the mail for $25 yearly membership, cheaper than Costco, so why not! The store itself is kinda dark n gloomy, and boring, it wasn't exciting to shop like my good ol' C.... But hey.... I got what I usually buy at the competitors, about the same price, less crowded, so why am I complaining lol They only have a Dunkin' inside, they need a snack bar but I guess they'll be too much like Costco if they did! But Bj always gives me a hard time going inside when there's a line to get in due to Covid even tho Dunkin' is a separate Buisness that's just inside. The employees are grumpy especially their security outside which I still think it's a bit much ok. It's a small Bj I feel like I been to bigger ones with more variety of selection. It's ok here I deff think buying in big portions deff saves you $ especially when u have big families. read more

Great place to shop in bulk. This location has been opened for about two years now and they have kept it up. The staff is always nice and avialable to help. They offer mobile offers that are automatically reduced when you add them to your account. There is plenty of parking and they offer lots of samples especially during the weekend. read more

While I consider this location to be closest to home, it's not all that convenient for a few reasons. First, I've noticed their selection is limited as compared to the Route 17 N location. Second, this location does not sell liquor. Bummer. Luckily, There is a liquor store only a few feet away and Shoprite with a liquor store attached in the same shopping center. Also, they recently put in self check-out aisles in replacement of live cashiers. I find that it actually slows down transactions since people just can't seem to figure out how to work the machines. Out of the total 7 self checkouts, there are at least 2 people at one time who are in need of help. Still, you're able to shop the entire store on Sundays since Hudson County doesn't have blue laws and the parking situation here is much better than that of Route 17 N location. Like most BJ's this location has a Dunkin Donuts inside but if you're looking for a fuller meal and then wholesale shop, you're in luck. Recently a Sarku and Chipotle opened up across from BJ's. Overall, it's decent location with subpar customer service. read more

Absolutely love that I became a member here. Currently on my 2nd year of membership and would like to say the membership fee is totally worth it. Coupons are always mailed periodically. Coupons can also be found at the entrance. If you have an expired coupon they will validate it a long as it's within a months time frame. How great!!!! The inside is well organized. The set up of this location makes it easy to find what you're looking for. Employees and managers are all beyond helpful in every way possible. Not happy with this BJs in Kearny Nj. I recently had surgery so it's hard for me to walk. Upon arriving I ask the attendant in the front if the electric scooter was charged. Then the security guard said I can use it but need to wait 15-20min, because I will need a key to run it. And all the keys are taken. By the way they only have 4 keys in the entire store. That's just unacceptable. I spend the next 15 mins waiting but couldn't any longer. They need to do better. Been going here for the past year, never had a problem. Even brought it up to the supervisor on duty, but he was no help. read more

Okay so I love Costco. Costco can't do anything wrong in my eyes, but I digress. We received a $25 coupon for the year which is very cool of BJs. This is the closest location to my house as well as the newest looking so we come here often and I must say, though they don't seem to have a major selection, I have found some great buys. I particularly like their selection of exercise clothes. If you catch them at the right time, you can find a sale on many items. Their coupon books are also very valuable. I like that they have self check out, but I feel they may have too many. People get in the lines and try to use them but don't know how which can slow things up. Otherwise, I'm down for BJs and will absolutely find another $25 coupon to use next year. read more

This is the closest BJS in my area. I was really annoyed that customers were waiting outside 1/2 hour or more only to go inside and find the store half empty, if not more. There were no lines in self check, employees standing around etc. They are taking advantage of social distancing. Also, many shelves were empty like in other stores. I have gone to other stores the same size with more customers and was able to stay 6 feet away. I won't be renewing my membership if they think so little of their customer. read more

I had I just had a young lady on 10/16/2021 at 3:45pm that had scanned all the items in my cart, so before you exit the store a person checks your receipt to make sure everything on the receipt is the amount of items on your cart and that's when the accusations began. I hand over the receipt and the lady by the exit who checks my receipt says that I have over 18 items on my cart not the same amount that the receipt reflects. The lady then tells me very rudely to go get the receipt which would reflect the amount of products on my cart. So I go to the young lady that scanned all my items and advise her to hand me a more accurate receipt because the receipt she provide is not reflecting the amount of products in my cart. She walks with me towards her manager and tells him that the lady checking receipts by the exit is not releasing my cart due to the amount discrepancy. The manager then tells me that a new system was installed a few days ago and has been acting up and not showing all items scanned on the receipt. I then proceed to tell him that I am pressed for time since I have to be at work in 1 hour and 30 minutes and I had been food shopping for 30 minutes and now the current issue has me on hold at the store for 10 minutes. The manager then started taking all items and comparing them to the receipt and advised that not all items where scanned( yet I kept repeating that not only did I see the young lady scan the items in my cart but so did my mom. The manager and the lady who had stopped me to scan my items continued to state not all was paid for and that I need to go back in line and scan everything again. I started to become enraged because I have been a customer for 10 years for BJ's and never ever had any issues. The young lady that scanned my items felt bad for me and kept getting accused of not scanning my items properly by the manager yet he had stated that plenty of issues had occurred since the new system was installed a few days ago. I got to a point we're I was over it and so I just decided to leave since I was now 25 minutes over my time to get ready for work and nothing was resolved and all they kept saying is that I need to go back in line and scan all the items. Once they saw I was leaving the manager even called the security guard while on lookers where watching me thinking I had stolen. Not once did the manager or anyone try to diffuse the situation or even apologize. For me this will be the last day I pay anymore of my money to BJ's specially this location in Kearny. Now I am calling BJ's for my refund and have to wait till Monday which is a regular business day to be able to contact anyone that can help me get my full refund and cancel my membership. I have went to BJ's (the one in Kearney NJ) with my friend. I purchased 2 ATM banks for Christmas, that I used my bank card as a debit, So One bank was good but the other one didn't have a bottom to it. Ok now I'm upset. So I have to take both back because I have twins and if one have it and the other don't it's a problem. But anyway, I go to return the items with my receipt that I had, I gave her the receipt and explains why I was returning, so The lady gonna say you have your Id I said yeah I'm going to take it out my wallet and she gonna say you have your card with you. I'm not a member. She gonna say in order to return you have to be a member. I said I wasn't a member when you took my money and the card I use wasn't my picture when I gave it to the cashier. That's why I'm sticking to Costco you don't need to be a member to do a return as longs as you have your receipt. Never doing bj again read more
