Good food and great service. The restaurant looks recently remodeled and warm and cozy...nice atmosphere. Most were locals (usually a good sign). My wife had the chicken and it was excellent. I had the burger and it was very flavorful with a nice firm brioche bun. We both had fries and they were cooked to a nice crispness. Will eat here again. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! I'm not making an outlandish statement, I've never had worst service then Black & Blue. We arrived and there were a few open tables, so we were immediately seated. We ordered one Entree and one appetizer. Appetizer came out, it was fine. But our entree, just one steak dinner took 48 minutes. Now that is not what bothered me most. I can clearly see the 2 tables next to us and they were seated well after we ordered. Both of them received all their food first. I naturally pointed it to our waiter, that we were here way before either of them and still haven't received our food. He said it's because you ordered an appetizer, we do those orders later. That made me puzzled and angry. Then our food comes out we hardly wanted to eat it. Of course when the bill comes, they actually add a 'service fee' for the worst service. I had to ask them to remove it before I would ever pay the bill. I am not making any of this up, this is the worst place restaurant and I've never been to any place that made me feel so second class. read more

Not in love with it, but didn't dislike it either. I guess you could say I feel rather black and white about Black & Blue! I had a filet steak (company party = company pay) with a fois gras appetizer and both were quite good. My steak was a little too cooked from what I asked (again a big no no especially at steak restaurants!!!) and really over cooked on the outside. None of the meat should be cast off in a filet but I'm afraid some of the outside pieces had to go as they were burnt to a crisp and hard, clearly not the best way to cook a steak. All in all, waitress staff was patient and professional (We were a big group of 15) and food was good, just not anything to write home about. If you are in the area and fancy a steak, this is a good joint to go to for it, just warning you it might not be the best one in the area either. read more

One of my favorite places in this part of London. The dishes are so delicious. Inside and outside the place looks pretty good, nothing to fancy to be honest, but yet it has a wide range of customers. Thats the result of the great food they offer, there is a great variety of dishes offered. In my personal opinion the stakes are the best, maybe even the best in this part of London. My husband and I went to Black & Blue to celebrate our one year living in London, and it was a brilliant dinner from start to finish. For starters we ordered the Artichoke, Spinach and Cheese dip with tortilla chips and the asparagus spears with poached egg. The chips were nothing special, but I refused to let the waitress take the dip away so I could continue eating it along with the main course. I would have taken it home with me, it was so yummy. The asparagus spears were very nicely done but overall not an especially exciting dish. Then we got our steaks - two fillets, medium and medium-well - which were cooked throughout to *perfection*. Black & Blue's steak dishes come with a side of fries (we substituted one for green beans - you know, to be healthy) and a big bowl of salad to share (lettuce, leaves, walnuts and cheese with caesar dressing. Yum). My husband said he would have preferred a bigger steak without all the sides, but for me it was just a wonderful combination. To finish, we were torn between the chocolate fondant and the cheesecake. The waitress recommended the former, and boy was she right. It was absolutely delicious, and combined with the vanilla ice cream and the berries it arrived with - every spoonful just hit the spot. read more

I used to come to Black & Blue a lot. A LOT. Like, their salmon caesar salad was my go-to after a long day of work, and I loved their hunter green leather booths to sink into. Steaks were good, drinks were good, prices affordable; I thought it was a really great little place. It's been about 10 years since I've gone back to this, my "home" location. Maybe, just maybe, my restaurant preferences have changed while Black & Blue has gotten a little tired? That would make sense of the following evaluation: the restaurant felt tired. The best part was the angus burger patty itself; it was cooked perfectly rare, as requested. Otherwise, though, the salad it was on (in lieu of a burger bun) was limp, undressed, and looked like the 1GBP bag of lettuce you get from Tesco. Nothing special, no beautiful plating, just...here's a patty, here's a mound of lettuce. Eventually some oil and vinegar were brought over, but both of the bottles were grimy to the touch and, again, just not totally on-point. The table was splitting ALL THE THINGS so I also tried a side of fries (fine, but definitely not competitive on the London chips scene), their "signature salad" with an overly sweet dressing and walnuts, and a chicken dish coated with cheese and served with a side of pesto. I found the pesto overly salty, but the chicken itself was delicious; flavourful and not dry. So, all in all, the stars across the meal were the two proteins. It's well-located, the staff is friendly, but little things have made this restaurant drop. Like, the table had to ask for condiments for our naked burgers. The bathrooms used to have fresh flowers in them and were impeccably maintained. Now? Fine, but definitely not - heh - a place I'd want to spend a lot of time in. In sum: fine if you're in the area, not worth a trip out of the way and, unfortunately, not a contender for my "regular go-to" anymore. Which - wait for it - has me feeling rather *blue* myself. Black&Blue - very aptly named conjures up images of carnivores and meat dishes.Yes you guessed it-its a delectable little number where the food served is simple and well cooked.The main courses are only meat ranging from burgers,chicken fish and some very nice salads using the highest quality ingredients. This might seem like a strange choice of restaurant for a non-meat eater but I initially came along with a group of meat enthusiasts and found, happily, that there was plenty on the menu for me. I've returned several times since and have enjoyed both the fish salads and love the goats cheese salad. The 'starter' portions are generous and ample for me accompanied by a naughty, but nice, side of well-cooked fat chips. Slightly on the downside, I admit that although I found the idea of the artichoke and spinach dip starter appealing it was much too rich and fatty for my taste. The decor is bright - in a good way - with amusing framed posters ; the banquette seating is comfortable and service is efficient. read more

Black & Blue is an American style steak house with several branches in London. Upon a visit to the first London based branch in Notting Hill, located at the top end of Kensington Church Street, we samples a variety of the delights that Black & Blue had to offer. The decor is light and airy, with flaming torches (officially called 'flambeaux') at the entrance, an open bar, wooden tables and comfortable couch style seats. The skylight windows also make a pleasant accessory on a sunny evening. The cuisine is similar to Tootsies, down the road in Holland Park. Unsurprisingly, Black & Blue is the baby of Alan Bacon and Nick Hill, who also launched Tootsies back in the 1970s. For starters, we had butterfly prawns in crisp breadcrumbs, a small rib eye steak and barbeque square ribs generously accompanied by fries and salad for the main courses. Dessert was rounded off by a shared chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Black & Blue most definitely serve large portions, so make sure that you're hungry enough to get the full benefit of your meal. The customer service was good. I had a quick glance around at the other guests and they also seemed happy (which is a good sign!). For a 3 - course meal plus drinks; expect to pay within the region of £25:00 per person. read more

Stopped in yesterday on a whim and had a super lunch. The place obviously features steaks as their prime menu item - ribeyes, T-bones, sirloins, and more, in differing sizes and with several sauces (peppercorn, mushroom, even foie gras). I wasn't hungry enough to challenge a steak for lunch, though. I had a burger, one of their other specialities. The menu says they make their own mince. There were choices of plain, bacon and cheese, guacamole, and - again - foie gras. I had the guac. The burger was tasty, freshly made, properly cooked, juicy, and heaping with gobs of guacamole. Chips were good too. My wife ordered the tuna on caesar salad; they were out of tuna and they offered her swordfish instead. No problem! It was a huge piece of fish. Note: they're a steakhouse, and properly differentiate between rare, medium, and well-done. If you ask for your fish rare it will come rare. The layout's nice: private round tables for two, booths for four (or two if it's not busy) and some nice four-person corner tables. There's a long bar with tools in the middle and front, if you're eating on your own. Tables are set very nicely with wine glasses and linen napkins. Plenty of newspapers about to read, too. The wine list was quite good. They've got bottled beers, too. Dessert menu looked good. Our choice, lemon tart, was okay. Classy restaurant without being fussy. Not cheap: steak go up from about £14, burgers start at about £10. A glass of wine runs between £5 and £8. Coffees are £3 each. read more

Popped in yesterday and tried to order a drink on a hot day. The staff seemed quite keen to talk amongst themselves rather than take our drink order. Once that was resolved quickly food was good and a nice place to chill. I would go again if someone else was paying and average at best for the prices. £50 for two and not my favourite and may be persuaded to go again if nothing else comes to mind. Came here for lunch on a Saturday at around 2pm, it was basically empty. The service was pretty good - they were good about picking up on my queues on when I was ready to take the next step in the dining out process. Ordered the filet, came with a salad and chips which was appreciated. Overall food was good, the salad's pretty basic but the meat was cooked well. I had a scoop of vanilla icecream with a shot of esspreso on top for dessert, this was great, probably the highlight of the meal. Price is pretty good for a steak place, and since the service is decent, I'll probably go back. read more

I had the pork ribs which were perfectly seasoned and my spouse had a chicken Caesar salad which she said was very good as well. I would definitely come back and try other items on their menu. Delightful steak dinner. I ordered the rib eye with mashed potatoes. I subbed out the French fries and our charming server was happy to do so. Salads were quite lovely, fresh with a light dressing. Dinner included the salad bowl and we added an grilled asparagus salad with poached egg. My dinner friend had the salmon and French fries which he enjoyed a great deal. A small joint located around the street corner. A very surprising treat for a very cold spring morning. The English breakfast was absolutely perfect. From the crispy bacon to the creamy and smooth scrambled eggs along with the delectably sweet grilled tomatoes. Nothing but a fantastic tribute to a globally renowned and hearty breakfast classic! A definite recommendation for an early morning meal for anyone looking for simple good food. Another great perk of the menu is that they allow you to add additional sides so you can customize your breakfast however you wish. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to most request helping to make the restaurant so much more appealing. This burger joint is top-class. It is definitely a notch above the likes of GBK and if ever such a thing as eating hamburgers elegantly this would be the place to do it. The steak burgers are the best and are extremely substantial. All burgers come with a side dish of very cripsy chips. The deserts here are also most definitely a must. The interior is very original. It is a sort of american diner set up jazzed up in such a way that it looks trendy. Its often filled with bankers and young professionals on their way home from work. Had one of the best meals I have had in London (and I consider myself a foodie)! Dropped in for a late lunch and was not in the mood for steak which they are known for, but had the grilled chicken with bacon and cheese and salad. Amazingly mouthwatering flavor. And the chips on the side are the best I have maybe ever had? The dipping sauces were truly yummy too. And they even serve Chablis by the glass which is rare in general for a mid priced restaurant like this. Will be back at least once a week to get my "fix". Highly enjoyable experience!!!! read more

For being a steak house this place serves the WORST steak I have ever had! I ordered a rib eye which is meant to be wonderfully marbled and asked for it to be done medium rare. Medium rare turned out to be more like medium well, the meat was absolutely sub par. You can find better rib eye at your local tesco. The steak was not seasoned at all and lacked that wonderful crust that you get when cooked properly. I was craving a rib eye and got a whole 20 pounds full of dissapointment instead. Better off making the trek to Hawksmoor if you want a real steak. read more

Went here with someone for the first time and both had two different burgers of theirs and we both found them to be quite bland and dry. The price for their quality was pretty expensive if I remember correctly (went there 2 months ago). And they took a while to serve the food and there was only 1 other table taken at that time of day so it shouldn't have taken so long. my dad knows his meats, and we are not talking restaurant knowledge, we are talking butcher knowledge. so when he comes visiting wherever I am, I have to work hard to find a good steak house that will please him. yesterday after a lot of research my choice fell on Back&Blue, the Notting Hill branch. they don't take reservations, so we went early, before 20:00 and the place was half empty. they have a bar and an extra area where people can sit and have drink should they have to wait for a table to become available. the menu is pleasantly short, all in one page, maybe a long page, but one. starters, steaks, burgers, some fish and extra bits and pieces I guess to please a larger audience. the steak submenu is simple: fillet (200g, 23gbp), ribeye, t-bone, a super beef platter (600g) of beef, and sirloin. Rump was missing at least in yesterday's evening menu. we quickly order, my dad got also a Pimm's drink (unfortunately we don't drink wine so I can't comment on that side). All the steak come with chips and salad and a choice of sauces. I was surprised and a little bit worried when our steaks turned up within 10 mins. I guess we were lucky that there were still few patrons in the restaurant and that we both went for the steak with no starters. The salad came in a shared bowl, a nice leafy salad with walnuts, a generous portion, on top of some extra salad and a tomato slice on the steaks plate with the chips. 4 sauces for the chips are available, mayo, ketchup and 2 types of mustard: a hotter one and a milder one. I had a medium rare ribeye and my dad a medium-well-done fillet. It was really nice meat, tender, juicy, full of flavour, it melted in my mouth. The chips were nice, almost perfect. Everything was really nice. The bill for the 2 steaks the pimm's and 2 bottle of mineral water, service included, came just over 50gbp. I can recommend this restaurant and I will be going back with some carnivorous friend to try the Cote de beuf 600g beef extravaganza and, of course, I also need to go back to sample the burger. read more
