Funny when the waiter asked if any of us had been to this establishment before and I answered "not in a long time", and after tonight's experience - for good reason. Tonight's dining experience was shocking. Service was perfectly fine, our waiter took great care of us. However, I'm shocked at the Glowbal group for having the audacity to call this a steakhouse. I almost never send food back to the kitchen, but I really regret not doing so tonight. The Canada prime striploin was ordered at rare plus but arrived at the table medium. For those well accustomed to cooking a steak, the meat served resembled a steak that was not defrosted in time. Literal boiled meat. Rubbery, wet, overly salted. Unbelievable. This might have been one of the worst steaks I've had in a long time. An embarrassment and a waste of apparently good quality meat. Butter cake for dessert was excellent though. Recommend getting that and a coffee. read more

The pricing is reasonable for what you get, though it does feel like inflation has definitely impacted the menu. My favorite dish was the mussels--they really stood out. Went to Black + Blue for my friend's birthday. It was 7 of us, we got a reservation 2 weeks before because this place gets booked up pretty quickly. We were seated right as we arrived and they were very nice to give us a spot right by their fireplace. It made for a very cozy environment! Their space is pretty big and the ambiance is beautiful! It's such a good spot to celebrate an occasion. It is a more high-end steakhouse but the food is really good! For appetizers, we got there oysters which were soo fresh, would recommend. And we also got their fried calamari. The sauce that came with it was really good! For mains, I got their beef stroganoff which was not on their online menu. I think it was a chef's special. I really liked it!!! The portion size was pretty big!!! I hope they add this to their main menu, was a big fan. They also got my fried a complimentary cake which was very nice of them. This is a beautifully managed restaraunt. It is lovely inside with split level seating, fantastic ambience and beautiful decor, especially the lighting. Alena was our server. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She prepared our Caesar salad at the table which was excellent. she made our dining experience exceptional as did Jason who then prepared our banana Foster taking our dining experience to another level. IMO this is a great spot for happy hour. The menu has tons of variety, the prices are great, and the portions are surprisingly generous for happy hour. The service is consistently excellent -- I genuinely haven't had a single bad experience here. The space has a semi-upscale vibe and the interiors feel quite grand, which makes it an even nicer place to hang out. I personally like sitting on the second floor since it's a bit quieter and has a more intimate feel compared to the first floor, but that's just personal preference. I've tried a wide range of dishes -- salads, appetizers, mains, desserts -- and everything has always been solid. Even my parents enjoy it, which says a lot. read more

Came here to celebrate my belated birthday with my Mom and boyfriend. We made a reservation at 6:30pm but arrived early as we finished our shopping earlier than expected. The front of house warmly greeted us and accommodated our early arrival in the lower dining room. It was a slow rainy Sunday night so there were no customers seated upstairs at all. We ordered the brioche bread, crab cake, and Lobster bisque to start. Brioche bread was enormous and tasty, crab cake was fresh and filled with fresh crab, and Lobster bisque was solid. My Mom was very happy with the crab cake and said it was one of the best she had recently. All three of us ordered the 3 course Sunday Prime rib for $59 each that comes with Ceasar salad, 12 oz prime rib with fixings, and dessert. Ceasar salad was okay but prime rib was tender, juicy, and delicious. My boyfriend usually isn't a fan of prime rib but quite enjoyed it but no one could finish the 12oz so we all had ours packed to go. Dessert was their warm butter cake - very delicious but very filling. We booked a semi private room for a corporate event. We arrived early and were sat at the bar while the event space was set up. The space itself was quite nice; it felt private even though it was on the second floor and open to the restaurant. They had set menus on the table where you had the option to select one appy, entree and dessert. The lobster bisque was nice but I do wish it had a larger piece of lobster. The steak was very soft and perfectly cooked (medium rare). I didn't get the dessert as I had a gluten sensitivity and couldn't eat it unfortunately. read more

Stopped by for lunch on a Thursday to enjoy the beautiful summer weather on their rooftop patio. The ambiance was absolutely gorgeous! I was so surprised at how crowded it got up there by 12:30pm. It seems this is a popular place for lunch for all the corporate employees working nearby! The ambiance was definitely my favorite part. Aside from that the food was *pretty* good and the service was also *pretty* good. The app we ordered (hamachi crudo) was recommended by our server and it was the perfect cold and fresh summer dish. I also ordered a salad with a side of salmon. I almost laughed at the small little piece of salmon that came on a little appetizer plate. I was expecting an entire dinner portion but...it was funny to see. The salmon was cooked and seasoned very well though so no complaints there. I also tried the Australian Ribeye which I thought was great. Good cook and juicy from all the fat. Service was slow, despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we got there (11:30am). Our lunch ended up being 90min+ long despite our best efforts to hurry and asking the server to bring everything out at once. Absolutely love their roof top on a gorgeous day. It was so nice out the had the roof retracted and there was a soft breeze. Our waitress Christina was so sweet and attentive. We stopped in for happy hour and hubby had the Margarita $8 and a Stella $7, I had the house 8oz white $11. We both had the stuffed Yorkie $5 each and the Beef Carpaccio pizza $18, has chimichurri, dizzeled mustard aioli, fried capers, baby arugula and shaved Parmesan cheese. Very excellent. We stopped here on a total whim after getting to Vancouver. They were able to accommodate us and we sat upstairs. Honestly, I preferred the ambiance upstairs over the downstairs. It was magical up on the balcony and quieter which I liked. We got two cocktails and they were excellent. The server was on point too. She was friendly and just chatty enough to give us a recommendation of what to do in the area. We got lots of food and all of it was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and all the seafood was buttery and well seasoned. The burrata salad hit the spot with fresh tomatoes and was lots of cheese. Beautiful restaurant, service was good but food is a disappointment. We got the "Buy Up" deal and it came with oysters, wagyu capraccio, wagyu salad, steak with seafood gratin, and lemon meringue pie. Out of everything we had, here is the ranking: 1. Oysters: not super meaty but sweet and fresh. 2. Steak with seafood gratin: the potatoes in the gratin was just a bit undercooked so a few bites had slightly raw potatoes. The steak was good and well seasoned. This is the only item out of all the wagyu dishes that I could actually taste the flavor of beef. 3.Wagyu Capraccio: Beautifully plated but the wagyu had no beef flavor. The cheese and sauce does help a bit but it perhaps needed a bit more salt to bring out the flavor. 4. Lemon meringue pie: it was half frozen when we got it. The meringue was the best part. The lemon curd was a bit gritty. And I wasn't quite able break off the pie crust as it was frozen. 5. Wagyu salad: again the wagyu had no flavor. The salad had quite a bit of aromatic like basil and mint but their individual flavor was so strong that it tasted like we were just eating herbs. The atmosphere and services gets 4 out of 5 and the food is 2 out of 5. read more

Everything was just average tasting and nothing really to write home about. I will say the stand outs are the chili nachos with steak since it's a more unique dish. Not a fan of being profiled when I walk into a restaurant. I make a pretty good living, and I like a good steak, and this one got good reviews, especially from the concierge at the fairmont. After walking, apparently my presentation wasn't enough for them to let me go upstairs and enjoy the happy hour at their rooftop bar. After a runaround and pretending like the rooftop bar was extremely full. Even though the restaurant was completely empty, they said that they might have some availability at 10pm, even though I was there at 5pm. A white lady with the fake gucci perch, however, seems to be welcomed immediately with no questions. I can't speak to the food but I have little patience for poor service and prejudice. We ordered the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio as a starter and it was amazing, the Cowboy Cut ribeye was the best steak i have ever had. It's huge 24oz bone-in, perfectly seared, and super flavorful. For the ambiance its similar to an upscale lounge meets classic steakhouse. The inside has dim lighting and is a two-story building. Since the weather was nice we sat at the rooftop, it has fire pits, twinkly lights, and a nice city view. We also got the sides of mushrooms and Brussel sprouts. We came for happy hour on a Thursday. Unfortunately for us, the patio was closed till Friday but we still had s good time downstairs. Our server was super nice and helpful. Very patient with us which was much appreciated. We got an array of items but our favourites had to be the prime rib happy hour (meat was very tender and flavourful), the clams (sauce went so well with the crispy bread), beef sliders (perfect snack size) and the Phyllo Prawns (crispy and not overcooked). I would pass on the fried mac & cheese next time as well as the stuffed yorkie. The nachos are a very generous portion (good for big groups) and calamari was your standard run of the mill calamari (nothing special but if you feel like you need more food I would chose this over the mac &cheese and the stuffed yorkie). As for drinks, we had the margarita and the spicy pineapple mule. Both were good but I would definitely get the spicy pineapple mule again. Had a nice kick to it and wasn't too sweet. Bad burger. Just inconsistent. Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's just bad and dry. The only way to make it taste better is to hit it with lots of ketchup, mayo and mustard. When u have to do that, you know the burger is subpar. I know it's a lunch deal, but we're still paying for it. The only reason we still go it's because it's near work, now if anyone suggests going B+B, most of us will protest! We had a delightful experience at Black+Blues. We were seated in the upstairs area of the dining room, which is quieter and much more intimate than the downstairs. Our server, Will, was perfect. We started with the Caesar Salad and French Onion Soup. Both were absolute classics. The Caesar was made tableside, and was one of the best I've had in years, with all the traditional ingredients, plus a touch of capers and Tabasco. The prime ptriploin was good, but the standout entry was actually the salt brick chicken, which was incredibly tender, and topped with a delicious lemon & thyme chicken jus. The fries are excellent. The spinach is whole-leaf, sauteed, and a bit wet; not my favorite. The wine list offers a broad selection of varietals and regions, although no depth of vintages. read more

Came in with high expectation given all the rave reviews, however everybody left feeling quite disappointed. Later on I would heard from other people that Black and Blue can be quite inconsistent. Our cowboy rib eye ($139) was over cooked and quite tough to chew, not a good introduction to Canadian beef. Similarly, the halibut ($48) was bland with watery sides.
