We spent the evening of Valentine's at The Stock Room recently. Arriving around 6:30 p.m., the host told us there was only bar seating available. This was fine with us since the goal was to have a couple of drinks and stuff ourselves with some burgers and fries from Hundy (the burger joint we needed to go through to get to Stock Room). I started with the dangerous liaison cocktail (beefeater gin, peach, lemon, sugar, butterfly pea flower). This was a solid drink, refreshing and hit the spot. My second drink was spreadsheet (beefeater, st. germain, lime, strawberry syrup, green strawberry bitters). I enjoyed this drink better as it wasn't too sweet and the flavor profile was more to my taste when it comes to cocktails. I came with friends on a Saturday night, fully expecting to join a waitlist, but we were seated within minutes and didn't feel rushed to order and leave (as tends to happen around big outing holidays like Halloween). Very easy for us to get a seat with no reservation. The drinks were really good and the prices during happy hour were also relatively decent in comparison to many speakeasies. Though quite small, the decor is really cool. My only issue was that the menu was slightly misleading. It led me to believe that some snacks were free, but we ended up getting charged about $9. This is a great speakeasy behind Hundy burger. The lighting is romantic and the sound level allows for intimate conversation, particularly in the back room. We went on a Jameson Whiskey night and had their three featured cocktails for $40, which were all excellent. I really enjoyed the combination of bitter amaro to offset the sweetness. Although the Stock Room doesn't make food, they do serve burgers from Hundy. You order from your waitress and they're brought right to your table, very hot, and added to your bill, so it's completely seamless. The unsung hero of the Hundy menu is the cabbage salad with dashi peanuts! It's the perfect spice level, and not overdressed. The bacon cheeseburger is also good, but my favorite was the spicy chicken sandwich--basically a Nashville hot chicken, but without the insane spice level. The chicken had a great crunchy batter, and there were plenty of pickles. Shoutout to the crispy fries, too, which were great when they were hot from the kitchen. We came at 6pm for just a couple drinks. They are located inside the burger restaurant just behind the curtain. We got the espresso martinis and they were okay. Nothing outstanding or smooth. The service was really friendly. Always checking up on you etc. Felt a little pressured to order more drinks but other than they were really nice Price point wise it was okay. Not crazy expensive. If I'm going to be specific, my true rating is 4.8/5 Cocktails - Well-crafted, beautifully balanced, and amazing presentation. Good price point too! I got the matcha one and it was creamy and delicious. I also tried the classic espresso martini here and that was also wonderful. Service - very prompt and kind! Always kept us hydrated by filling our waters and was friendly when we weren't sure what to order :) impressive that they ran the place with only 2 employees at the time. Ambiance - Classic dim lighting which made for a good drinking environment. It smelled really fresh there which was cool. Gave classic speakeasy energy which I appreciated. Not too crowded as well. My only qualm with this place is no flash photography. Granted, I understand how this could ruin the aesthetic being built but I guess I'm more-so unsure of what the harm of a few photos is? read more

Big shout outs to Rachel, a manager (if she's not already promoted she should be). She's style, grace, she's encompassing values of this place to a tee. Drinks are swell & food is provided by Hundy whom many will know from their former location on West 4th Ave at Their There. This pub also formerly known as the popular locale for Chelsea supporters (booooooooooo) who got bumped over to the Brass Fish Tavern on Burrard St. TSR has transformed into a super cool like dat chill out pub. The pool table is still here & some new decor has been added. Dark & dim, come for a drink & food or just to chill out at & drown yourself in cocktails! The haawwt Nashville Chicken Sandwich is delightful - tasty bun, sweet pickles & well breaded juicy chicken. It's hawt but will not have you running out screaming for your life. New speakeasy in Vancouver? Not my favorite or all speakeasies I've been to around the states. The wait was "long" (1 hour), so I went back down the block to the brewery to get a beer. I ordered a beer and I was already called back. Irritating. Happy I was able to get in quicker, but I rushed, didn't finish my beer, and ran in the rain. Was no one's fault, but that sucks. Many people tend to wait inside the burger joint which must suck for the burger joint. The hallway going in is narrow when there are people coming in and out. Happened each time I came to check in and leave. The drinks here are not all that at all. Terrible to say the least. I tried 4 drinks, and only 1 was decent. 2 hour limit. Service was ok. read more

I really liked the sort of speak easy concept and general vibe of the stock room but felt like the drinks were a little underwhelming. My partner and I got the castaway (rum focused) and the captain brunch (gin focused, but still a tropical profile.) We've had a lot of rum drinks over the years and there seemed to be something missing, like there wasn't enough bitters. With the gin drink, the grapefruit really overpowered the gin flavour. I suppose some people would rather that be the case but to me if you're having gin you want to see some of that come through. I will also note the service was a little slow but it could just be that they were busy. When we first got there, most seats were filled though they had cleared out after an hour or so. Love a good speak easy, and this one has great lighting and an equally great drink list. We tried quite a few, the favourites were Ahhh Pamplemousse and the Count Sheet. Despite living in Yaletown, I never knew there was a bar/lounge here, hidden behind a tiny burger joint. My friend who recently moved here introduced me to this very cool bar. It's small. It's dark. It's the kind of place that feels like patrons need a secret password or code, or secret handshake to be able to gain entry. The hostess and servers are super nice, and attire is very casual (which seems odd, as when you enter this place, it feels like we all should be dressing up a bit). Oddly enough, there's a taxidermist specimen of a fox mounted high on a wall, and it's illuminated and appears rabid. Strange. That's the strange kind of place this is. My friend and I visited here last night, and we sat at a table in the back. It's an intimate kind of place, and I could tell that the tables on each side of us had couples on a date. (My friend said she has come here often with her hubby for drinks). That said, we did not feel out of place here, in the least. The drinks we had were great! She had a glass of her favorite cava Spanish wine, and I had a "Castaway" cocktail which was terrific: presented in a tall, chilled, green ceramic tiki glass with a sprig of mint and a thick pineapple chunk on the rim. And it was rummy and fruity and oh so good. Not cheap (cocktails go for $15-17-ish each. I believe my friend's glass of wine was $12), but oh so good. Reading the reviews here, it sounds like the food here is a winner, too. Will have to return to try a burger or sandwich. My only issue with this lounge is the women's washroom was in a bit of disarray when I checked it out. Not terrible but one stall was out of tp and there was some trash on the floor. If you don't know about this place, well now you know because you are reading my review about it. I usually don't share my secret spots, especially Vancouver. And well, this is one of my secret spots :P I love coming here, and that it is always a surprise when they approach the burger side of the place, and they ALWAYS tell me to order first AHAHA. And then I slowly move over to the special side of the wall. But I am happy that Hundy created a bar where you can drink with your friends and then also have the burgers to be served at the same time. This is that special date spot that a lot of people don't know about. On top of that they have a HAPPY HOUR menu available. But it is not posted online, it is from 3:30 - 5:30 so yeah just heads up for those people who don't know. It is made for those who work Yaletown, but they do have one on the weekdays. On the weekends, it will be packed with TONS of people, so you gotta get a reservation, on their Opentable. On top of that, they usually open the secondary area behind the curtains when it gets packed with people. I still love the décor inside and how unique and interesting it is as a speakeasy. I ordered a Bulliet old fashioned. But they didn't have Bulliet so I went with Knob. It came in a glass that looked like it came from a hotel bathroom. I have ordered Hundy burgers for delivery before and loved it but never noticed the stock room tucked behind the restaurant. As soon as I found out I made a reservation (I recommend a reservation, it was so busy even for a Thursday night at 9:30pm), I knew I had to try it! If you've tried hundy before you know the food is amazing. Drinks here were a little pricy but the vibes of the place make it worth it. Terrible customer service. My bf and I got a reservation Thursday evening 02/23/23. We got seated around 8:40pm. A blonde waitress wearing a brown jumpsuit took our orders and we proceeded to wait 50 minutes for drinks and they never came!!
