The WORST restaurant in the MWV!!!! It's like $20 for FOUR medium sized scallops, for that kind of money I could have a four course meal. The scallops came out still raw-undercooked on the inside, but burnt on the outside. Our salmon was cooked to well well OVER done! They chicken was burnt to charcoal black. The portions are too small! They didn't even have trays to carry our food on. They looked like juggling monkeys. OUTRAGEOUS!! I don't think the restaurant, as a whole, will last longer than it's first year. read more

I have the opportunity of coming up this way a few times a year. I always look forward to going to the Black Cap Grille. The service and attention by the staff is unparalleled One always feels comfortable and welcomed. I particularly enjoy the lobster risotto cakes and beet salad. I have walked out of this place twice. Both times I sat in the bar area to grab a burger. Both times the bar was nearly empty except for the bartender and her friends. The bar tender was too busy talking to even acknowedge me. After 15 minutes, I left. Won't waste my time going back. For an upscale pub, I would expect better than that. They need to get more professional staff. Couldn't even comment on the food, which is a bit pricey. read more

The food at Black cap is pretty good and their goat cheese salad is amazing. However their prices are pretty high for what you get. The bartender has been pretty rude every time that I've been but the waitstaff all seems to be pretty good. However I'm pretty annoyed right now because I just called and the girl who answered the phone said they weren't doing take out this evening because they were kinda busy. Well to start with its a tuesday at 8:15, I'm a local and I know that theres no way it could have been that busy. I'd be fine if she said we're busy it'll be 45 minutes but to tell me that your just not going to take my order and money is crazy. I'm sure it was just the girl making up her own rules. For a place that normally does take out why wouldn't they take my money for their overpriced hamburgers? read more

We have been back to eat here at least twice since my first review. Each time we went, we had a great meal experience. The service was prompt and courteous, the food was very tasty. We had a variety of sandwiches and appetizers as well as a salad on one of the visits. All food showed up quickly and was the appropriate temperature. I'd recommend the chicken caprese sandwich. The sandwiches also come with a large pile of fries - which I like, even if I don't eat them all. I can't stand it when a sandwich shows up and there are like 10 lonely looking fries on my plate. Fries are cheap, and I want a pile of them darnit. You get that at the Black Cap. Good beer selection, they feature a beer from the local Moat Brewery too. Ambiance is a little dull, there are a couple of TVs in the bar area. I'd recommend this place for anyone looking to get a quick, decent bite and a cold beer. We'll definitely be back. read more

We never got to try the food. Around 4pm we called to reserve a table for 10 people for 6pm. When we arrived at 6pm, we were told that our reservation "wasn't really official" so we have to wait 45 minutes. We ate at a different restaurant. read more

Service was nice and helpful. Had a late lunch there on feb 18th. The build your own burger was good and juicy. The Thai chicken wrap was a bit messy as the sauce all ran out, but still tasted great. Also has the veggie burger which was very good and full of flavor. The chicken caprese sandwich was excellent with just the right amount of pesto. All in it was hit and maybe a dollar or two pricey bet sandwich but nonetheless good. read more

Very good food! My husband and I went there for lunch on 1/18 to start the trip off right. Our waitress Lindsay was wonderful, the place was very clean and well decorated. My husband being a little Irish, was very pleased to find out they serve Guinness! Our only complaint is that when we went back for dinner on the 19th they were closed due to "kitchen issues"???? PS. We ate at the Black Cap Grille last night and it was disappointing. We called many restaurants to check wait times because we had 2 young children . We were told 20 minutes but ended up waiting an hour. We realize that can be tricky for a restaurant to gauge sometimes but that was way off. Also someone in our party ordered the black cap sandwich, the description made it sound like a mile high sandwich but was no bigger than a grilled cheese I would make at home; we laughed when we saw it! The service was very slow.... Maybe this is why we waited so long!? We will not be going back. read more

On first getting here I was comfy in the atmosphere. They are very friendly and clean. Our servers name was Katie and I cannot stress enough how amazing she was. She was nice, friendly, personable, and super friendly. It was almost like she was part of our family. She was so knowledgeable about the menu - I asked about their flank steak special and she described it to a T. It was my boyfriends birthday and he wanted a shot that she wasn't sure if they made - we told her what was in it and within a minute it was on the table. The food came fast and was hot, fresh, and delicious. Katie was also on top of filling out water glasses - we drink water a lot and really fast and never had an empty glass. Honestly the food was amazing but having Katie as a server was the icing on the cake - be sure to ask for her when you head in - it is worth it!! read more

Mediocre at best. We ordered calamari for an appetizer which was very disappointing...lacked seasoning and had very little flavor. We've been here many times since it opened a few years ago. We have never had a bad meal here. The food is very good, lots of options on the menu and they are great about splitting things and customizing your meals. Many places won't do that. Great drink menu too. The 5 stars is for the service - it was like we were dropped into Boston at one of the top restaurants. Service was great. Very attentive but no too much so. They really train their staff. The food would be 4 stars for pub style food. Not gourmet but fresh and hot and very tasty. I had the Thai chicken roll up. Large sandwich, in fact I took half home and had it for lunch the next day and it was just as good cold. My husband had the burger and was pleased they offered gluten free bread. I'd wanted to check out the Black Cap Grille for a long time, and finally my husband, two young sons and I did earlier this evening. It was eh--not bad, not great. Service was okay, but our waitress was not very friendly and didn't go out of her way to explain the menu. I thought it kind of crazy that the kids' meals were 6.99 and didn't even include a drink. My husband was happy with his steak, but the ravioli special I had was mediocre, and my Caesar salad had barely any dressing on it. We are big martini drinkers, but the hot and dirty martini was awful. The restaurant seems to be trying to be upscale, but it is not. That said, I do not recommend taking kids there. We enjoy eating out and have no problem dishing out cash for a quality experience, but this was not one. We will not be returning. read more

Went here looking for a salad, until they served a lobster roll and onion rings to the table next to us. The salad didn't have a chance. Lobster roll was overflowing with lobster and onion rings were awesome. Vegetarian 3 bean chili was also a good choice. Interesting with a variety of beans and had a good kick. read more

Don't let the location of the restaurant be a deterrent as it is hard to find as it is in the far end of a large parking lot. We are far from home as LA being our home base where great restaurants line many streets and corners. The mixed green salad was chalk full of delicious sliced apples and the Vermont goat cheese was creamy and laced throughout the dish. The Maine mussels were fresh and I had a plentiful stock pile in a succulent parsley garlic broth. Alcoholic beverages are reasonably priced. I would never go here, I walked in sat down at bar area to place a take out order and order a few drinks while we waited and they would not take a take out order. The hosted told us how to place the take out order. Then the waiter in the bar refused to take an order. I wonder if the owner knows this approach. " the kitchen was too busy for take out" read more

We heard good things about this restaurant so we wanted to try it while on a family vacation. So we called up ahead of time to give them a heads up because we were a party of 10. We knew there would be some kind of a wait and that was fine but when we call she said no problem to the bigger party and didn't say there would be a long wait. We got there 5 minutes later and there was an hour wait. Now we would have waited no problem but then the hostess was very nude and spoke down to us when we arrived. After waiting outside so just a few minutes another party showed up who also called ahead just like us and they seated them within just a few minutes. This is completely disrespectful.
