Was visiting North Conway for mine and my friends birthday, we both come to North Conway every year and have never tried Horsefeathers but always heard good things. The place was busy, once we were seated we waited 10 minutes for our waitress which we didn't mind. Our menus were like "old magazines", mine was ripped so the pages fell out and my friends had rippled due to water damage. We waited 20 minuts for our meals, again, was not a problem and I don't have any complaints on my meal, I did get the hot dog off the kids menu because I wasn't looking for a ton of food, the fries were really good! But my friend ordered the chicken and shrimp pad Thai, the veggies were still frozen, it had no bean sprouts and it was dry. And for the price, she didn't feel like it was worth it. I don't know where to began. A few days ago, I took my wife, who is recovering from a stroke she had months ago, to Horse Feathers. She loved to watch tennis, and we were going to get a couple of appetizers and some tonic. a very rude person at the front that, while we explained we just wanted to watch tennis and have a couple of appetizers, she said the bar was upstairs. We explained that we wanted to watch the TV downstairs so we could watch tennis. She was very aggravated, as if we were not going there for dinner. There was nobody else in the restaurant other than one person. Finally, she placed the menus face down on the table and said it might be a couple of minutes before the waitress got there. We said fine, but we were very unhappy with the way we were treated. Half an hour later, no waitress had come at all. My wife said, "I'm out of here." We left voiced are displeasure . We said this is terrible way to treat customers and left. What I should say this is not away to treat human beings who come in, especially when my wife was already very aggravated and we do not need that in her condition. Something has to be done about the person at the reception who seats you at your table, because she must have said something to the waitress, since she did not come for 30 minutes. We were just trying to get a couple of tonics and an appetizer to watch tennis, which I thought was fine. I will never go back there again, and anyone who does should really reconsider. read more

I've never written a review like this BUT I am so beyond disgusted with how my mother was treated there. We have never skipped going to horsefeathers when we are in the area. We walked in and before we could say anything we were told there was a wait. Not a big deal we wanted to sit at the bar. When my mother poked her head into the bar area to see if there were any seats the hostess nastily snapped at her there was a wait and no seats. However there was open seats. We were so put off we left. We will never be back. There's absolutely no reason to snap and yell at customers. Do better. read more

This is a sports bar centrally located in North Conway by Mt. Washington. While it is a sports bar it was perfect for a quick family dinner before we went to Conway Scenic Railroad (about 5 min walk or less). There was a rather long wait to be seated but after ordering, food was very quick. We all ordered drinks to start. My husband and Aunt both loved their selection of Beers. You can't go wrong with beer in New England with all the IPA's. I got the Mochatini. It was alright. A coffee flavored martini to set off the night. For food we were all pleasantly surprised by the portions. They were very big. My husband got the loaded nachos as his entree from the appetizers but it was enough to feed everyone and so delish. I got the clam chowder soup and ceaser salad combo. Both were filling and delicious. The clam chowder actually had a lot of clams in it. My son got a hot dog and horsefries from the kids menu. Lastly my Aunt got the Crab & Havarti Sandwich. We all left very full and satisfied with our dinners. The prices are fair considering the location and portion's. Today I took my 3 kids and Mom and although a wait (as expected day after Thanksgiving) Hostess was pleasant and our waitress Maria was outstanding. Stopped here for lunch while in north Conway. Was crowded but was seated immediately. Our server was very busy and apologized for the delay in ordering. I decided on the soup and half a sandwich. I chose the clam chowder and the sandwich was a roast beef on rye. The chowder was full of clams and the sandwich was stuffed with tender roast beef. I had leftovers for the day after. read more

The first burger came with a hair on it. Second came 25 min later virtually raw. I truly, politely, asked the server about the undercooked meat (ordered medium) and she almost cried, told me she was the only one in the dining room and could do nothing about it. As a group, we usually make an annual trip to N.C. Every December. Horsefeathers has always been one of our traditions. Sadly, that will no longer be the case. We went to Horsefeathers for a late lunch at 2pm as a group of 8. From the moment we entered, we were treated rudely by every staff member we en countered. The hostess seemed put off that we had a group of 8 and seemed to want us to leave. She told us the wait would be 45 minutes. There were many empty tables, so perhaps this was a staffing issue, but that wasn't communicated. This year, my friend brought her autistic grandson with her. We were told by three different staff members where he couldn't be, shouldn't stand and that their seats probably wouldn't accommodate him. I have never seen people who work in a customer service driven industry be so unkind and unprofessional in my entire 52 years of life. Aside from that, the nachos we ordered as an appetizer were burnt. The food was edible, but mediocre and certainly not worth the poor treatment we received. While we were in NC, we went to Barley and Salt, The Met, The Muddy Moose, May Kelly's the restaurant at our hotel, Delaney's and The Black Cap. Every single one of them had exponentially better food and service. Not one person from our group of 7 adults will ever be returning to Horsefeathers ever again and we will inform our friends of our recent experience there as well. Horsefeathers...do better. We have been to Horsefeathers many times since the early 1980's and we always loved it. Always crowded and a long wait and that was for a reason - it WAS a fantastic place. I guess all good things come to and end though and Horsefeathers is on its deathbed for sure - and I'm sorry to say that. My wife ordered the turkey wrap and I always get the black pastrami. Things have really changed for the worst. The turkey was like some junk you pick up in the market prepackaged - and lousy - why? The black pastrami which was a famous sandwich is now on one pice of toast and served open face with 2 slices of tomatoes and a gob of cheese - it was also lousy. you are either going out of business or very close to it - there were 4 people in the whole place at 530 pm. Everyone has gone across the street where it is much better food. Horsefeathers - do something and fast - you're losing it and quick - how can you not see it??? Have you ever tried calamari? I have, at least 20 times, wanting to love it. Only once in over 18 years (before this) have I ever enjoyed it. I dared tonight, and regret nothing! I have ordered calamari in several five star fine dining establishments and send it back due to chewing a rubber band (not at all what you should be experiencing when eating calamari) Besides the superbly prepared seafood and delicious salad, service is on point. My cousins & I go as a group every November for the sales at the Settler's Green & usually try to find a great spot for lunch. From what I recall, they have a variety of food / decent menu. Quick decision last night for 9 of us was where can we get take out. Horsefeathers was close to where we are staying. It was getting late and no one was answering their phones,, busy busy!, So my husband and son in law ran across the street to Horsefeathers with a list for the 9 of us. He couldn't say enough about how well they AND the list was received. They were so patient, personable and kind. And the food came out in a timely order. Waitress was not very pleasant. She spilt 1/4 of my beer when setting it down. She giggled and commented "glad it wasn't the entire glass". When setting our food down, some of the Pablo crusted chicken fingers slid off the plate and onto the table. She just grabbed them with her fingers, tossed them on the plate and took off. The places is dusty and dirty. Glasses where spotty and the bathroom was slightly cleaner than a job site porta-potty after wing night. I use to love this place but it seems no one cares. Just finished eating here and we could barely stand up because we are so full. We started with a cup of crab and asparagus curry bisque. Then I had the crab and havarti sandwich with "horse fries". My husband had the seafood reuben. All 10/10! Highly.recommend and we'll be back next year. read more

Why even bother if they're not going to? I'm not sure if it was due to a lack of inspiration or folks just being burnt out, but our dinner here was one of the worst we've experienced in terms of food quality (and price paid). The salad we ordered had wilted lettuce, straight from the CAN toppings and was generally inedible. Just throwing vegetables together does not a salad make. The fish and chips were over fried, limp and tasteless. A feat one would consider impossible since it's a tried and true recipe of frying and salt. I mean how? While I can appreciate and heavy pour every now and then, adding more of a bad thing to something doesn't make it better. Charging a steep price for well liquor and grocery store-bought mixers just isn't cool. We go out expecting something better than what we can do in our basement or backyard (and for way cheaper to boot). The service was very nice and attentive, at least. There was prompt attention after being seated and our food and drinks were brought out quickly (though not a surprise since it wasn't very busy, which should have been a clue given it was a weekend night with a big event in town). But that's not enough to overcome the 1-star because damn, disrespecting people's time and money like that, it's actually pretty offensive. Gross. Worst French onion soup I've ever eaten. Tasted like dirty water. I've never had dirty water, but I imagine that's how it would taste. The chicken, broccoli, ziti Alfredo tastes like straight wine. I've never had Alfredo sauce with wine in it. Ordered my son's steak medium, it was raw. Not even medium rare, RAW. We went in at noon on a Saturday right before the lunch rush. Everything was clean and quick. We were the first ones seated at the bar, but it quickly filled up and we found ourselves moving down a seat to let others find the last seat at the bar. The food was incredible and couldn't have asked for anything better. The burger was cooked perfectly and it was a monster full of flavor! I called to make a reservation as we had a party of 8 coming and was informed they did not do reservations, but had plenty of seating as it was 100 + seats. We arrived to the restaurant, to no host. A man sitting behind the counter listened to our convo and said we could all go to the bathroom if we wanted. I said no we are looking for a table for 8. He rudely told us it'll be at least 5 min and then walked off, and we never heard from anyone again. We ended up leaving and there was multiple guests behind us that kept trying to call the restaurant as well to get a hold of someone. read more

we walked in front door and the is a staircase going up to the 2nd floor bar. we told the host that we were going upstairs to the bar. He said see you in a couple minutes. We went upstairs only to find out the bar was closed, went back downstairs and the host stated that it had been closed for several years. We were like WTF. He was less than pleasant.
