[[HIGHLIGHT]]A beautiful, charming neighborhood bookstore, nestled right in the heart of Monrovia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the moment I walked in, I had a good feeling they will be my go-to cozy spot to get some reading done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They opened in October of 2024 and are proudly women-owned and operated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are located behind the blue Moo Moo Mia Ice Cream shop, so they might be a little easy to miss, but I promise, once you find them, it's like stepping into a book lover's dream - tall bookshelves, colorful book titles, comfy seats, and cat themed![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have to spread the word to all of my cat-loving friends. I first heard about Black Cat Fables from my bestie, who is a Monrovia native. She even took me to attend one of their store events - their 2026 Vision Board planning event! We got to meet lovely neighborhood folks, and spent an hour dreaming up the year ahead and meet the store owner, Nicole, and their event planner, Mikayla, whom are both super sweet and friendly. After the event, I couldn't help but grab some beautiful bookmarks and a full collection book of the Jane Austen novels, which is now my next read and sitting beautifully, waiting for me on my bookshelf. They also have their own curated selection of beauty products, home decor, and not to mention, an adorable collection of bookmarks that I just can't resist. I'm a big fan! I am subscribed to their email newsletter and followed their socials to stay up to date, since I don't want to miss a thing from them. Saw a sign on Myrtly advertising this business that's tucked away off the little walk alley. We went in and I was instantly into it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bookshelves that line the walls are beautiful and the way they've done the book category displays made me giddy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're a book nerd this place is going to make your book nerd heart smile. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have tables, chairs and even a cozy couch area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also sell fun trinkets and tchotchkes. I purchases a couple of stikers for the back of my kindle and a couple funny stickers for friends. They also have coffee. My cousin ordered an affogato. I wish I lived closer becuase they host some great special events. Heck! I'll probably still make the trek out for an event or two soon. I love independent bookstores that are on the right side of history so when I'm in the area and need gifts I'll be back to Black Cat Fables to pick up items for friends and family. read more

Anytime I'm doing any sort of gift shopping, a stop at Black Cat is a must! This adorable indie bookshop goes out of their way to highlight local artists and small businesses - who doesn't love that? I never fail to find something unique and fun here! During the holidays they have so many interesting gift items like jewelry, puzzles, very niche advent calendars, and so much more. On my recent visit I scored some perfect advent calendars for my family that I know they'll just love (among other things)! When it's not the holidays, they still have tons of excellent gift options like stickers, mugs, candles, jewelry, lotions, and tons of other fun items to browse. As far as book selections go, they curate unique themes and interesting reads that you don't see in most bookshops, most often featuring indie artists - an excellent place to shop for any book lover. I'm a huge fan of cats - especially black cats - having several rescues myself so the shop's theme is a big draw for me - they have so many cat themed items! [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also plenty of cozy places to curl up and dive into any books you may be considering buying.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And soon they'll be adding a coffee shop section into the mix - so even more reason to stop by! Adorable hidden gem of a bookstore. It's a little hole-in-the-wall shop tucked away in a cute little alley with a coffee bar, locally made arts and crafts, fun gift items, and of course - books. It's a small store so they don't have the largest selection out on the shelves, but they have some great curated finds and are happy to order books if you are looking for something in particular. I've bought books, hand-crocheted "book worm" bookmarks for co-workers, book-inspired vases for Mother's Day, fun romantasy stickers for my friends, and even gifts for my pets here. I found this spot for book club and it is the cutest shop. They have books, trinkets related to books, ornaments, and stickers. This is a good spot for a book lovers gifts. They were so nice and let us use their space to meet for book club. They also have a knitting club. The coffee portion was not yet open, but I definitely want to come back once it does. I adore Old Town Monrovia and look for any excuse to come here. Black Cat Fables opened a few months ago, and I finally had some free time to check it out. Located in a side alley between Merengue Café & Moo Moo Mia, this charming bookstore carries a diverse selection of publications for all ages by female and lessor known authors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cozy & inviting. Everything has been thoughtfully curated down to the adorable Cat themed décor, which was inspired by the owner's two black cats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In addition to books, you'll also find a variety of cute merchandise from local artists that are great for gifts. I picked up a few. The concept of a bookstore café is a great idea and the owner plans to incorporate one next year. Right now, they have a traditional coffee pot with freshly brewed coffee for you to enjoy while you relax with a novel. In fact, some of the benefits of reading are stress reduction, increased knowledge, and it can also help prevent the progression of Alzheimers & dementia. Omg, I think this is the cutest bookstore to ever exist!! When I heard Black Cat Fables was open in Monrovia, I just had to visit ASAP. I ended up stopping by on the first Saturday that I was available, and I was blown away by the gorgeous black bookshelves and the amount of gift items they have. I especially love how they feature and support other local small businesses by providing information about the businesses next to the respective items. Black Cat Fables is the perfect spot to pick up a book for yourself and unique gifts for loved ones. Their cafe is also currently a work in progress, so I can't wait to come back when it's officially up and running! This is my favorite place! They have amazing and fun workshops, creative and unique gifts and merchandise that you can buy, and a soon to be coffee shop. I love that they also have dog or cat gifts that are book related, and it's such a feel good place! Their book themed gifts and items are festive and creative!
