I really like this place!! I can't read most of the books bc I dont speak Mandarin Chinese but I still really like the place. The guy that was there was super sweet too. All in all, 10/10 I really like the place.

The Kingstone books location closed at my area and I had a hard time finding a Chinese manga store until I stumbled upon this location using Google...needless to say I drove to the area and here's what I'd love to add onto this review: -For anyone new, do consider that the location of the store is pretty hard to notice at a glance; I missed it the first time I got to the area and the parking area is pretty small. -Happy Books contains more rentals than books for purchase; I was told that only the books in the glass shelf (see pictures) are for sale while the rest are for rent. Please also note that this is a Chinese manga and book store so there won't be any English titles. With that in mind, this store is honestly a very relaxing place to be. It was quiet and they carry a lot of manga titles for rent as well as a few stationeries and anime posters. I managed to place an order for a couple of mangas the store didn't have yet but they could order them for me. The lady at the counter was super nice and could speak English as well. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to buy or rent Chinese translated manga!!

I've been coming in for years before they moved here and changed the name to Happy Books! I believe this place used to be called 漢牛. So many different novels and mangas to rent (all in Chinese). You can buy or order books here as well. The front desk lady is always very sweet and helpful. The plaza is small but the book store is really spacious inside. Hidden gem!

The emphasis, though, is primarily new and recent comics. Passing through on a rainy afternoon I was pleased to find its location is near a few important stops in Pasadena, and there's some parking available in the private lot. I was mostly there to check out the selection and see if they specialized in anything unique. Not to say they don't, but it's still a well-stocked store. I was the only customer and enjoyed the classic jazz playing in the background. Pro Tip: Most established comic shops have subscription plans paid annually, or one-time up front. A customer goes through Comic Book Geek to pick their titles and sometimes preferred cover art, and the shop pulls their requests and holds them until the customer picks up the stash.

Now, they were all no Stewart comic book store but out of all of the ones in the area, this was the best by far. Chill vibes, plenty of comics, easy access, and easy to purchase at the end. Only critiques I would give it would be to have a little more for the other collectors. And what I mean by that, have a couple more action figures, Funko, pops, etc. that will probably bring in some more people for sure. The other thing would bethe music playing in the speakers. Didn't care too much for the rock, but still all in all, nice place to go. There's plenty of parking and easy to find.

Apparently Nucleus expanded and opened a second location in Portland in 2016. [Parking]: Easy and free street parking. If parking is not available on Main St, then there are plenty of public parking spots and parking plazas in downtown Alhambra. [Space]: The space is separated into a bookstore at the front with various art books and a rotating art exhibit (Wicked in March 2026) at the back. All art on display is for sale. The bookstore sells mostly art books (both original works and artwork from specific anime, games, or pop culture) as well as various original greeting cards. Tickets are not required to see the exhibit and admission is free. [Conclusion]: A neat spot to see various unique art prints and a free exhibit. Chances are if you are at Nucleus then you are also here to check out other spots in downtown Alhambra (e.g. grabbing tea drinks or visiting other miscellaneous shops).

Location: Located along Alhambra's Main Street area, making a nice place to walk around nearby shops and cafes. Parking is typically found on side streets or nearby lots within a short walking distance. Restrooms are available for patrons and visitors. Ambiance: The gallery is well laid out and spacious, balancing retail display areas with open exhibition space. Artwork sales are positioned toward the front while the main exhibit areas extend across both the first and second floors. Featured artists rotate regularly, giving the space a fresh feel. Menu: If considering what's available for purchase, the gallery focuses on featured artists' works, including prints, original pieces, and related merchandise, along with select items from other artists. Service: Staff are consistently kind and welcoming.

They carry new and old books with VERY large selections. Their manga and comic section is really great, and I love to pop in to see what's new. I think they understand there's lots of art students nearby that love these books! :) Thank you, book alley. They helped me snag a specific book I really wanted to avoid buying from amazon, and couldn't find anywhere else! Make sure, if you're in the same boat, give them a call and ask if they can do the same for you! It might incur a fee, but they got my book to me within a week and I didn't have to pay extra! :) Wahoo!

The staff on the floor are engaging and genuinely helpful when you're searching for a particular find. That said, my experience selling books was disappointing. The process felt impersonal, and the seller/owner was not particularly engaging. One example: I brought in a brand-new book that originally cost $40 and was offered only a $1 store credit. I understand used bookstores have to make a profit, but the experience left me feeling like my books would have been better off in a friend's library. Great place to browse and buy, but I would lower expectations if you're planning to sell.

As one of the oldest independent bookstores in California, it has a really special charm. Inside, there's a wine bar, a coffee shop, and even a cute gift shop upstairs, which makes it easy to spend a lot of time browsing and relaxing. While I was there, I got to listen to an author present her book and answer questions, which added such a unique and memorable touch to the visit. The store was busy, and you could really feel how much people enjoyed being there. The layout is well organized, making it easy to find books by genre. Upstairs, there's a spacious children's section, which is great for families. I also loved the section featuring Orson Welles books and posters. It was a really cool and unexpected addition. Overall, Vroman's is more than just a bookstore as it's an experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
