An amazing place to stay to take in all the sites of Rapid City, SD. It is centrally located to all the sites that my husband and I wanted to see. One but not all great things about this place... the most amazing is the breakfast Jody puts together for her guests. I wanted to stay past our 6 days just for the breakfast. ;-) Rooms are roomy and nicely decorated. Best spot for lodging in the Rapid City area. Close to Keystone, Hill City, Mt. Rushmore, Rapid City, many lakes, hiking & much much more! Shelly & Todd are the most gracious and generous hosts. Rooms are comfy & cozy and spacious. So much to do on the property, outdoor seating, fire pit, outdoor games and the inside has a full basement with a game table & tons of games, movies and pool table. An excellent place to stay in the Rapid City South Dakota area. Close to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and other great places to visit. Very clean, excellent beds and one of the best breakfasts we have ever had at a B&B. The hosts were also very friendly and accommodating for a food allergy. We stayed here during our trip to Sturgis and it was wonderful. We had a private hot tub on our room porch and the owners cooked and served us breakfast in the morning. It is on a huge lot that is really pretty. Located in the Black Hills, it is about 30 minutes to Keystone and 30 minutes to Deadwood. read more

We were one of the first guests at the Black Forest Inn under new owners and we were so impressed with the quality of the improvements that Jodi and Ryan made to the Inn and the level of service we received. We stayed two nights and we could have easily stayed longer. It is a wonderful B&B, in a great location, close to everything in the Black Hills, and with lots of things to do at the facility as well. We stayed at the Black Forest Inn and had an absolutely wonderful stay. The new owners were fantastic and made us feel right at home. There two large common areas that are beautifully decorated and so inviting. The beds were very comfortable and they thought of every small detail (including charges for just about any kind of phone!). The outdoor area is picturesque. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We will definitely be back! read more

The Black Forest Inn Bed and Breakfast way exceeded my expectations! The entire house was beautiful, freshly renovated, and sparkling clean with the finest attention to detail and comfort. The towels and sheets were of top quality which is always important for a relaxed stay. The owners, Jodi and Ryan, are just lovely and so helpful with everything! Outside offered several sitting areas to relax and enjoy the views. We have done a lot of traveling and without a doubt these breakfasts were the most delicious I've ever had! The correct website is blackforestinn.net. Last year my fiancé suggested going to a B&B after reading about Black Forest Inn in the South Dakota magazine. We had an amazing time. Isaac made the best salmon I have ever had in my life. It's a year later and I still rave about it! The breakfast was good, but I don't remember it like the salmon. Cindy was a wonderful host and the other guests were also very pleasant. A guest had his very sweet dog staying as well. During our stay we went to Jewel Cave NM, drank wine, and walked about the Black Forest Inn property. read more

Back under previous ownership after many years. New additions to the Inn since my last visit are the soon to open patio bistro, newer bathrooms, WIFI that works throughout the Inn and Bob and Betty are back as owners! They bring back the original award winning feel of the inn and the great food! They have the ability to handle a few guests up to large weddings, family reunions, and corporate events. We had a very pleasant stay for four nights. Each day the breakfast was great, coffee was available at 6am which is nice if you are an early riser. The owner gave us great recommendations for dinners and tourism routes. We had a huge room with a large private bath. This inn is in a perfect location that is central to all the local attractions and parks, once we were there we were happy we selected it over some other places because of the ease of getting around. The inn has WiFi which is a plus as not all locations have it available. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had and would warn anyone to stay far away. Overall the biggest problem was that the owner Cindy was so rude. We were there for a wedding and she made the bride cry during the dinner. Literally, the bride had to get up and leave because she was so upset by everything that had happened. Even before dinner, instead of congratulating the couple, she told them that they were late and that we had to hurry for dinner. Even though there was no one scheduled for dinner before or after us. We had the entire dining room reserved and the bride and groom were not even late-- they came 15 minutes before dinner was to be served. However, when we finally did sit down for dinner, many people had to send their food back because it wasn't done. The dinner service was awful. Everything came out at different times, even the salads. Food was cold. Instead of quietly refilling glasses and serving food, she walked loudly between our two tables and talked over the room as if she was a member of the family. She interrupted people when they spoke. She insisted on leading and posing the couple when they were cutting the cake. There was no dinner music and because we were all so uncomfortable with her actions, no one spoke much during dinner. Then when we asked about music, she said she had a CD but she couldn't figure it out. I cannot stress enough how uncomfortable the whole experience was. Prior to the dinner, there were other problems. The rooms were not clean when we were ready to check in- and by not clean I mean there was trash on the tables in the basement and dirty plates from people the night before. The person who was staying in the basement had to wait for his room to be cleaned and we arrived after 4 PM. The owner admitted that she had "forgotten" to have the basement cleaned before our arrival. Later that same day, she even asked this same person to carry some furniture down to the basement for her. She also called my father "a pain in the a$$" when he asked for more towels. I do think she was trying to be funny when she said that, but it was extremely inappropriate. There is wifi but it was so unreliable that it isn't worth advertising. My mother also said that she had to clean mold out of her shower. There were three servers who we saw who were VERY polite and did their jobs well. I would advise them to get jobs somewhere else because they are much better than this establishment. After our stay, I was able to talk to some locals around Rapid who told me that they have heard similar stories about how rude the owners can be. There are so many beautiful and comfortable placed to stay in the Hills, don't risk it at this place. read more

I attended a wedding here early June 2014 and stayed two nights. All guests really had a nice time. The hosts Bob and Betty were fantastic! They accommodated all the party requests. The breakfasts were tasty and plentiful. One suggestion would be to add a pool table or ping pong downstairs for downtime and maybe volleyball, croquet, badminton or similar outside. The hot tubs are a nice touch. I would definitely stay again. No cell service, but that can be a good thing for relaxing anyway. Great central location to travel locally. read more
