We stayed at Summer Creek Inn in June and loved it! The place is beautiful, the room was so nicely decorated and the linens and bed were so comfortable! The grounds are so lush and they have an amazing waterfall that is so soothing! It's obvious they spend a great amount of time keeping everything so lovely! The homemade breakfasts were AMAZING, so delicious! Nancy is a great cook! We also enjoyed talking with the others guests at breakfast. We found the owners Nancy and Dan to be very friendly, knowledgeable and very engaging! If we make it back to the area we will make sure we stay with them again! read more

If you're looking for a place that charges premium prices while delivering a bargain-bin experience -- congratulations, you found it. We booked Summer Creek Inn based on the listed amenities, including WiFi and other onsite features. None of them existed. Not "spotty," not "limited" -- just flat-out not there. When we asked about it, the owners responded with immediate irritation, like we were the problem for expecting them to provide what they advertised. That alone tells you everything about how this place is run. The attitude didn't stop there. We watched them be perfectly friendly and accommodating to other campers while treating us with noticeable coldness. The only obvious difference? We have an older camper. I enjoy fixing things and doing DIY work -- that doesn't make us any less of paying guests. Judging people based on appearances is not only unprofessional, it's incredibly shortsighted. Not that it should matter, but we do very well and travel often -- we just don't feel the need to prove it with brand-new gear. Then there was the morning incident. The male owner came up and aggressively banged on our camper door. By the time I opened it, he was already halfway down the hill, avoiding any actual interaction. No explanation, no follow-up -- just strange, intrusive, and frankly rude behavior. At the end of our stay, I addressed the inaccurate Hipcamp listing with Nancy. Instead of taking responsibility, she insisted it "wasn't her fault." That's not how running a business works. If you're taking people's money based on what's advertised, it is absolutely your responsibility to make sure it's accurate. This isn't complicated. I ended up walking her through fixing her own listing while she maintained a consistently rude attitude the entire time. The only redeeming part of our stay was our neighbors. They were kind, welcoming, and clearly noticed how we were treated. At one point, while we were around the fire, the male owner came by trying to make small talk with everyone -- except us. My hilarious and kind neighbors spent the entire time telling him how much they loved us and that we were the reason their stay was so memorable. Afterwards, we shared a lot of laughs around the fire, imagining just how miserable the owners must be. After leaving, I read through other negative reviews and noticed a consistent pattern: guests mentioning rude, dismissive behavior and a lack of accountability when issues are raised. Based on our experience, that pattern feels very real. Let's be clear: this isn't about minor inconveniences. This is about misleading advertising, poor treatment of paying guests, and a complete lack of professionalism. If you value honesty, basic hospitality, or simply being treated with respect, stay somewhere else. There are far better options out there that actually deliver what they promise. read more

Probably one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed! The inn is very nice inside and the outside grounds are gorgeous! I loved the porches, the waterfall, the flowers, it was really pretty! The innkeepers were nice but you definitely got the feeling that the inn was strictly run. The breakfast was great and we didn't mind paying for it as we thought the rates to stay there were very reasonable. There is no WiFi which was definitely a difficulty and the tv system was hard to figure out. The inn is about 9 miles to the nearest town or store which was an inconvenience, especially driving those roads at night. Once breakfast is over there is no other food nor drink, other than your free bottle of water, till the next morning. You know the feeling of once you realize you have no food or drink, all of a sudden that's all you can think about...Overall, it's a beautiful place to stay! read more

Summer Creek Inn is a great spot if you want to stay at Grandma's House. The owners Dan & Nancy custom built this themselves and the inn & grounds were beautiful. The room was luxurious, sheets had high thread count & towels were plush. Beyond that, there isn't too much nice I can say about the place. For one, Nancy kind of has an attitude problem. She acts like it's a privilege for you to stay there, not the other way around. This place also doesn't have Wi-Fi which Nancy stated that it wasn't possible because of location. I feel like she was blowing smoke up my you know what because I saw a private WiFi connection for the Inn. Another turnoff to this place is that there isn't thermostats in each room. It was hot when we were staying there and the temp was set to 71. So I went out in the hallway and turned it down. When I looked at it next, it was turned back up to 71. So this place was essentially a Bed & Breakfast in which you had to pay for the breakfast. Fine by me, we were on the go so we wouldn't have gotten to enjoy it anyways. The only problem was that you had to let them know the day before if you were going to have breakfast. I like to make last minute decisions on breakfast and having to plan it out was a little inconvenient. Location was just okay, still pretty far from a lot of tourist destinations. To top off the weekend, the water wasn't working our final morning. The owners left 2 bottles out in front of our door and that was it. If I am paying $250 a night, I expect some type of financial resolution if I can't use the water. I get it's not the owners fault but just leaving 2 bottles in front of the door doesn't cut it. All in all, I probably would've rather stayed at a chain hotel where I felt like a guest and not an inconvenience. read more

Breakfast is $11.95 per person, is only served at 0830, and doesn't offer any options. We have been to a lot of B&Bs and this is one of the nicest but least comfortable when it comes to conveniences like needing ice or wanting coffee and tea other than at breakfast. read more

My wife and i stayed here for our anniversary. The place was gorgeous and very well kept. We have never been to a b and b before. It wasnt anything like i thought. It was better. The rooms are very nice. Large bathroom and nice 2 person hottub. The theater room is phenomenal. The breakfast was delish. I will come back. Both owners, husband and wife, were very friendly and nice. Told us about all the different places to eat. There is a steak house a few miles down road. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! in how the owner handled my need to cancel a reservation due to an unexpected medical issue which was going to make it impossible to make my highly anticipated birthday trip scheduled for August 2022! There was no flexibility on the part of the owner, Nancy when I spoke with her to make an exception to the cancellation policy due to medical issue out of my control. I offered to get a note from my surgeon but was told that would not make a difference. I was told I would be charged the FULL AMOUNT whether I cancelled or was pressured into rescheduling for a future date that was not my choice as I have no idea what 2023 will look like for me and my ability to travel. The inn looks lovely and many of the reviews are wonderful which is why I chose to reserve here for my birthday trip in the first place but the inflexibility and lack of understanding of an unplanned medical circumstance for me and the owner's inflexibility and lack of compassion is, as I said, VERY DISAPPOINTING!! If you do choose to reserve here you better make sure that you're not going to have any unplanned medical circumstances that arise (and if you're able to predict those please let me know how because I had no idea that this was going to be my situation right now) Unfortunate, as I was looking forward to a relaxing spa weekend for my birthday. The Summer Creek Inn in Rapid City was the highlight of my wife and I's honeymoon. The Summer Creek Inn isn't simply a stuffy historic home, it is a marvelous feat of architecture nestled in the Black Hills. Firstly, it is wonderfully situated, almost an even distance of about 20 minutes from all of the major attractions in the area. Jessica and I arrived at Summer Creek Inn, and were originally booked with one of their more economy suites. After a good initial conversation with ever pleasant and eager to please Nancy, we were upgraded to one of their premiere suites, as a wedding gift! Our room (Suite 5) featured a chandelier, state of the art hot tub, 2 murals, a fireplace, a personal (and dumbfoundingly large) patio , fireplace, large bathroom, and a television. The room was exquisite, and the trip wouldn't have been the same without this booking. Just around the corner is a luxury home theater with 16 spacious recliners. Regretfully, we weren't able to use this, but if you were to spend an afternoon/evening at the lodge, it would be quite an experience. The breakfast was incredible! I'm not a breakfast person, but I was there and salivating each morning at 8:30am. Afterwards, Dave gives all guests a "map class," where he helps give you the best route (complete with other recommendations) to wherever you want to go. Give Dan and Nancy a call. Summer Creek Inn is kind of like the Donald Trump Towers of B&B's. To be fair, I've only stayed in one B&B before in Scotland, so I'm not an expert at B&B lifestyle here. However, based on photos of others this place is way more high-tech and is for sure not your grandma's B&B. The breakfast was top notch! The movie room was pretty sweet, our 2nd night there we even raced home so we could watch a movie in it. Overall they took great care of us and the house was beautiful. The location is pretty nice as well, though, you may want to get to it prior to dark can be a bit hard to find the 1st time. It's only 20 minutes or so from a lot of major attractions and isn't smack dead in Keystone which is a bit over the top on the tourist factor. This place would kick any hotel in the areas butt, so for the same price as a sleazy hotel you may as well come here! read more

I do not believe that I have ever written a review before this one, but I wish to share our experience so that others can use caution. We purchased a gift certificate for a night's stay and upgraded to include the breakfast, visited with the owner several times, even read the policy before making the purchase. Due to COVID-19 the owner provided an extension to the expiration date, which was greatly appreciated. However, when the gifted party tried to make a reservation, they were told they would have to purchase a second night in order to stay here. It was never our intention to gift something to someone only to have the receiving party be required to pay more money to use the gift certificate that was given to them. I have read and reread the policy and again there is no mention of a two-night minimum stay. This is not stated anywhere within their policy, nor anywhere on the gift certificate itself, nor on the web page in which you go to purchase gift certificates. I told the owner this is something that should be included in their policy or at least stated on their website, so people know of this unwritten expectation before they make a purchase. The owner stated she does not agree, and she does not need to make this known to anyone before they decide to make a purchase and only makes it know when making a reservation. It was at this point that I said I would like to have an attorney review this, which we have engaged at this time. However, because this is a SD based business, we will have to retain a SD registered attorney. This is also a first for me, but I feel strongly that this business is taking advantage of people. The gift certificate we have in our hands clearly states "A Gift Certificate to Summer Creek Inn. One-night stay in a Luxury Suite and breakfast for two." We did purchase a night in the luxury suite but when the recipient called to make a reservation, she was told it was not for a luxury suite. Confused by this she ended the conversation, but the owner quickly called back and said yes, the certificate was for a luxury suite at the time of purchase, but they have since raised their rates and the gift certificate would no longer cover the cost of what the gift certificate was purchased for. I am sure this maybe a very nice place to stay. Their website shows a beautiful property but after my interaction with the owner I would NOT recommend Summer Creek to anyone. I only wish I would have read previous comments/reviews regarding Summer Creek before our purchase as comments of rude ownership is very much a reoccurring statement within many of the reviews. She got extremely defensive, as did I, and our conversation ended badly. Shortly after we hung up, I returned a call to her to apologize only to have her tell me that she is not dealing with me anymore. As stated in other reviews.......they now have our money and we will not be using their service due to the owners actions, an unwritten, unspoken and unknown two night minimum requirement; the most disturbing factor is this seems to be a reoccurring practice with this business owner. read more

I was really in doubt about writing this review in English or my native language Dutch. It's always difficult to strike the right tone of voice in a foreign language and I really want to do the Summercreek Inn and the innkeepers Dan & Nancy justice. Although is a spotless clean and high-end, allmost new B&B and the Innkeepers are really nice people the're too many remarks that can be made. So, not a 5-star, but a 4-star review. The're a lot of reviews so I'm not gonna repeat everything. Just things we noticed. - Breakfast is beyond compare. Great! Nancy should be a chef in a fancy restaurant; - The WiFi is not open for guest. In the year 2016 you must be joking. - Everything is spotless clean. Nice. But because everything is so brand new and spotless it's less inviting. Don't know if this is correct English, but is a bit 'clinical'. - Rooms and B&B are more like a small hotel than the typical B&B. - No extra amenities like cookies, free drinks. And drinks you can buy are locked. Which I understand by law and because you have to pay for it, but you'll need the Innkeepers for everything. - The second morning all towels were moist. - No individual temperature control in your room. - A difficult TV systeem with no guide. While a few days later we had the same system in an hotel in the Rockies and they had a very clear guide next to the remote. - Beautiful spot in the Black Hills. Would greatly recommend it. But I would like it even better if it was a little less perfect and 'by the rules' and a bit more personal and relaxed. read more

My husband and I had stayed at a bed and breakfast in the Black Hills for our honeymoon, so it was only natural that we decided on another one for our fifth anniversary. We found Summer Creek Inn by accident on the internet. At first we were a little wary of the cost, but after staying, we would gladly pay it again. It is such a value for the money. The inn was absolutely beautiful and luxurious. Nancy and Dan treated us as close friends and catered to our every need. The whole place was spotless, and the breakfasts made my husband expect way too much of me. (Nancy is an amazing and talented cook!) We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a 3 night stay at Summer Creek. My husband found this place by accident as they just opened July of 2009. This is a place that you have to experience as words do not do it justice. Simply this place is over the top in every aspect. When we returned home, my husband said, did we really enjoy our last 5 days in the Black Hills or was it just a dream. We have never in 25 years of married life enjoy any thing like being at Summer Creek. The rates are actually low for what you receive. Once again after you stay at Summer Creek you will know what I am talking about. We appreciated their firm policy on no smoking or no pets. Summer Creek is spotless from top to bottom. Daniel and Nancy have high expectations on what they will provide for their guests during every minute of a guests stay. We are making plans to stay again in May of 2010 and fall of 2010. The breakfast was extremely good. Visiting with Daniel and Nancy was a great delight. We enjoyed hearing the story of Summer Creek. My final words to any one choosing to stay at Summer Creek please respect the Summer Creek property so that it stays as nice as Daniel and Nancy have created it for all of us to enjoy. I have waited several weeks after staying at the Inn before I wrote this review of the Summer Creek Inn, as it has such high ratings and my rating is not....The Summer Creek Inn is very clean and tastefully decorated. Our room was beautiful, but missed a few comforts that perhaps the owners will consider. The bed in Suite 8 which is a queen was only average, although the linens were a nice thread count. There isn't a full length dressing mirror, nor an iron or an ironing board. Suite 8 is upstairs and when we arrived we were shown around the home but we were never offered any help with our luggage to the second floor even after telling the owners that it took us a day longer of flying and driving to get to the area. It would have been nice just to offer, whether we declined or not. Perhaps it is because we are from the south where hospitality is of the uttermost importance, but we felt like we were intruding and not guests. Dan told us to knock on their door to their Suite if we needed anything, so after walking the common areas, looking for Dan and Nancy which were no where to be found, we did so and no one answered. Additionally, there is no internet service, although the owners have the service. There was also a tumbling noise that we could hear from our room that was very distracting, perhaps a washer, dryer or commercial mixer in the mornings. There are no instructions on the spa bath in the Suite, thank goodness we have one and knew how to use it, but both of us thought "What about the people, who don't", this would be a terrible inconvenience as there is a drying phase that comes on after the use of the spa bath and unless you know this, it sounds as if it is running again without water and you have to let the spa bath go through that cycle or it will continue to try to dry the lines. We "purchased" the breakfast for one day. It was excellent and I do understand why there is a time line for serving. The breakfast was healthy and delicious but I do not understand the added charge. Why not include it in the rates? The Inn is strictly ran like a business, and not like a warm and engaging Bed and Breakfast. Dan was helpful after breakfast with giving local information and maps to the guests who inquired but Nancy hurried guests along that were engaged in conversations by clearing the tables including the coffee cups. Coffee may be available during the day, but...I didn't see any cups available during the day. Also, my husband asked about a local place for dinner, and was told about a restaurant severals miles away, Horse Creek Inn, where we dined and the food was just average at best, on the way back we noticed a place right across the highway from the Inn which is Musekamp's Bistro on the Terrace and the next night had an excellent meal there. If you are checking out before 9:00 a.m. you must check out the day prior. When my husband checked out the day prior with Nancy, he was never asked about our stay and when the bill was handed to him for the remaining balance, Nancy told him; "Okay we are Done". Perhaps it was because there is a place on the bill for a "TIP" and he didn't leave one on there. But, we never leave "TIPS" on our credit cards, all of our TIPS are paid in cash. The money he had in his pocket, remained there after this comment. What happen? We were guests who were quiet, respectful, and who paid for half this reservation 4 months in advance, deserve a thank you and I hope you will consider us again comment instead of "okay we are Done". So, if you are looking for a place that is five stars beautiful, four stars a great location, three stars comfortable but 1 star friendly, who doesn't really care if you feel welcome or not, this just may be your place to stay. This is the best place we have stayed in the Hills. The facility is only a few years old, but looks brand new. Unlike some B&B's, Summer Creek has full bath rooms for each suite. (Our idea of vacation is not sharing a bathroom with strangers.) The rooms are large, warm and welcoming. The property has a nice mixture of private and public space. For instance, each room has a private deck/patio with a hot tub, but there is also a large patio out back. Each room has chairs for relaxing, but there is also a common area for reading, chatting, watching TV, etc. There is a large area for breakfast each morning and for having a drink at the end of the day. We did not do their breakfast, but definitely will next trip. They also have a theater room upstairs with big, leather chairs. The hosts are perfect for this place. They are there and available, but not pushing themselves on you. They gave us anything we asked, and some things we didn't ask for like cookies and snacks. This place has a no-kids and no-pets policy. I believe this is how it stays so nice year after year. They do not have internet service currently, but are looking into that. And there is no cell service. But they have a computer with internet you can use and a land line phone. We will be back. read more

I reviewed this place on trip advisor and wanted to review it again because I loved it so much! My fiancee and I went there for my birthday and it was the most memorable one I've had! We got in late because of a blizzard, and our room was exactly what we wanted, and the hosts were so nice! They even offered to cook us chili for dinner, and brought us a plate of fresh chocolate chip cookies. When we got to our rooms I literally jumped up and down with excitement! The beds were so big and cozy and our room had a whirlpool tub with a fireplace built behind it. It was so romantic, and our hosts were considerate enough to leave us alone so that we could have our privacy. Everything in this house was gorgeous; it was like a mansion. The website didn't do the place justice! This place is definitely geared toward the younger set. Most bed and breakfasts I looked at online were themed, or tacky, and looked like they catered to senior citizens. My recommendation: If you have the cash definitely go! You won't find any bed and breakfast that's better! read more

The facility was impeccable, the suites were stylish and roomy, with amenities that you don't see at the other B & B's. The owners were very welcoming. They worked very hard for their guests. The movie theater and billiard room were quite a nice amenity while staying there. The back yard and patio were so relaxing and the waterfall was very soothing. Three nights there did the job.
