Housekeeping is by request but you can also easily ask for items at the front desk like trash bags, toilet paper, etc. The pool was fairly nice (water was pretty chilly and the tile outside the pool was very slippery when wet) but the hot tub was closed for maintenance sadly. We really wish there had been an outdoor area with a table or lounge furniture to be able to sit outside in the morning or evenings. We stayed in the more rustic rooms with outside entry. The door never seemed to latch/seal well and was loud. Beds were comfortable enough but moved a lot and the A/C worked overtime to keep the room cool. We didn't hear much from other rooms or from outside. The towels are very small and it should be standard to include a few more (especially for a two bed room). While parking is limited, it's convenient to be able to park outside your room for the most part. Hot water was good for the most part--there was one night where the shower would not stay hot but I think maybe a lot of people were using it at the same time. It was nice to have breakfast included but it doesn't start until 7am--this was too late if you want to get an early start to any of the area parks. It would be nice for it to start at 6:00 or 6:30am. While there's a coffee maker in the rooms, it's a small cup and would be nice if coffee in the lobby/breakfast area was also available earlier (before 7:00am).

The facilities were in need of a makeover and refresh. The towels and sheets were dingy and new towels and sheets were needed. The very small refrigerator was sitting on the floor with the microwave on top of it. I dropped some crumbs on the floor on the first night, the cleaning staff did not vacuum it up before we left after two more nights; and we did leave a tip for the cleaning staff each day. The water drainage in the sink smelled each night when we returned from the day's outings. The price was very economical, I should have taken that as a clue, however, the reviews were excellent so we took a chance. I would not stay here again.

There's a dishwasher and washer and dryer and well the site gravel roads. It's easy to get around if you slow down just a tiny little bit there's also a very nice garage where you can step store your motorcycles or like making your camping stuff but it's nice to be able to put some of your stuff away and be safe although I doubt anybody would come back in the hills just in case it's nice it's there. There's ample room in the cabins plenty of living room plenty of seating I'm in a wheelchair and I was able to get around fine I think the doors are either 32 or 34 inches but I found if I was careful when I went through it was not a problem I'm an electric wheelchair jazzy HD. Also that the owner and his wife Beth went above and beyond to help me with my handicap Needs. Matt built a small ramp so I can get up into the porch. I would say this would be a perfect place to stay for either three couples or families with kids I would highly recommend that Beth and Robins Roost there about I think 12 miles from mt Rushmore and a little bit further to the Crazy Horse monument. Hill city is about 10 minutes away there was some fun things to do there nice places to eat all in all I would say that the vacation at Robins Roost is the best when you're going to have also they're not ADA but they can't accommodate some requests if you're handicapped and they're nice about it they don't have to put out when you need something special I go every weekend if I didn't live 1500 miles away

The entire reservation, check in and check out process was very clear. Leslie was great with communication throughout the stay and all of the instructions were clear in emails leading up to our reservation. I stayed at the Buck Haven Cabin which had one bedroom and a loft with another bed. It was perfect for my parents and I but can sleep up to six. The cabin was fully furnished and had plenty of towels, pillows and extra blankets. The entire cabin was comfortable, well decorated and temperature controlled. There is a key to use although you are provided a code for the key pad which we found easiest to use. There is a porch and deck with a grill, picnic table and a firepit with chairs. Unfortunately we did not utilize these during out two night stay last week. Firewood and smore kits are available for purchase. There is a great binder provided that gives suggestions on restaurants and activities in the area and even provides a little history on the property and family that owns it. The cabin was only about 15 minutes from Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. In either direction you can find breweries, restaurants and other activities such as Bear Country, a candy store and off road vehicle rentals. We also visited Wall Drug and Badlands National Park which was approximately one hour away. The location was central which allowed us to visit a variety of spots. While in a great area, Freedom Ridge Cabins are not on a main road so there is plenty of privacy. They currently have four cabins but the property is well designed and you wouldn't even know you have neighbors unless you catch them outside. It is very quiet. Although we did not need additional items while we were there, the owners are on site and can provide what you need very quickly. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Freedom Ridge Cabins. I highly recommend staying with them if visiting South Dakota. The price was reasonable and not much more than a stay in a regular, boring hotel room. The Roost Resort has a genuinely nice physical setup -- well-maintained grounds and facilities. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by how the visitor fee was enforced. We drove 300+ miles each way to visit family staying at the resort. Saturday we paid the $10/car visitor fee without issue, though it came with a long lecture about costs, being a mom-and-pop operation, and "registered guests only" on the walk to the office. We left around 8:30pm, invited back for breakfast, and stayed overnight 40 miles away at another resort. We returned Sunday ~8:30am. By 9:30am the owner (Sheila) came back for a second fee. I asked if it worked like a motel checkout window since we'd be leaving soon. She charged the full fee anyway and repeated the same lecture -- for at least the 4th time. She mentioned being a 5-star resort; when I mentioned I'd leave a review, she took it as a threat. We were accused of using the shower house (false -- we'd showered elsewhere). When my cousin's husband mentioned being a disabled veteran, she accused him of "playing that card," described her own health condition, and threatened to call police. My cousin was told to vacate 2 days early, with 3 hours' notice. There's a difference between hospitality and running a hospitality business. A resort this nice deserves an owner who understands that difference.

The dump station, takes some maneuvering to turn around in a small place. The view is great, but the lack of personal interaction is terrible. I would look for other parks, in the area. 1 out of 13 states is not bad for an average. You always have that one!!!!!

The two-queen room was more cramped (not surprising) and had a smaller bathroom with a tub-shower combo. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which was included, included cold cereal, oatmeal with several toppings, eggs, sausage patties, and potatoes. There was also a machine that made pancakes. There were also several types of bread to toast. The juice machine had a couple different juices and the regular and decaf coffees were good. A lactose-free/non-dairy milk would have been nice. The hotel also had a swimming pool, a game room, and laundry facilities. It was walking distance to several restaurants including Halley's, a pizza place, Subway, bagel place, coffee, and a wine bar.
