The museum is old and has many interesting rocks, fossils, etc, with science-based descriptions and timelines. Probably a recent addition is a biblical flood based timeline. There is a wide assortment of attractive minerals, etc for sale at quite reasonable prices.

All the products appropriately relate to the rocks. Then you enter a movie room for an 18 minute movie...but I skipped the movie. Next I visited the museum. It is obviously built by a very gifted hobbyist. It would take days to truly examine every rock. It is very well organized and made with the viewer in mind. Then you exit to the head of the trail. The trail begins with a set of steps going down. You are provided with a laminated map that shows where the trail goes in which direction. Due to my physical disabilities, I followed the trail backwards over a wooden bridge. I saw the last piece of large petrified wood, number 25, and traveled in up to number 20. There is a rock shop at the end of the trail. There are a lot of options to buy things but prices are actually reasonable. The owners are very trusting, helpful and upfront about everything.

So, Black Hills Adventure Tours folks: our guide on August 5 was FANTASTIC. She took us to Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and the Crazy Horse Monument. I learned *so much* on this tour. She knew everything about each place we stopped, was friendly, warm, and really thoughtful. Every time I went to read a plaque, she had already told me what was on it! Hearing about it from a person instead of waiting my turn to read a plaque (nothing against plaques!) made it a much more memorable experience, and it also allowed us to cover more ground in less time without feeling rushed or pressed for time. It's also great that the guides have special passes and can make arrangements in advance, so we didn't wait in lines and got great parking. I would love to go into detail about the sites, but she planned thoughtful surprises for us and I wouldn't want to take that away from others. And the monuments and park speak for themselves in experiences that I can scarcely do justice in a short review. The SUV for our tour in August was cool, spacious, comfortable, and stocked with snacks and water. If we had it to do over again, we would have booked our tour on our first day in Rapid City. I highly recommend this company for a wonderful tour that will be tailored to your family no matter what the size, shape, or fitness level.

He knew so much about the Badlands. We learned so much that we never would have known if we just drove through on our own. He was a scout master and he comes prepared with his camera with lenses that take beautiful close up pictures that we never would have gotten on our own. He will take pictures of whatever you want. We were picked up at 3:15 and dropped off at 11:30! We even stopped on the way at Wall Drug. The day we went, unfortunately , the weather was not aligning with the night sky we needed to see the stars which is something no one has control over. But the sunset was beautiful and the Badlands did not disappoint so I got over my no star night. My husband said a few times to me, this is well worth the money. He was just the greatest and Aimee the owner was very much updating us about the details and they brought snacks and a huge sub sandwich. I am attaching some pictures but they are ones that I took. I haven't been able to save his pictures in my photos yet. I'm not great at figuring this tech stuff out. P.S. we saw so many bison really up close.

We never felt rushed; instead, he took his time to make sure the experience was all about us. One of the most memorable highlights was something completely unplanned--stargazing in the Badlands. Living near a city, I never get to see the stars like that. But out there, I saw shooting stars, the Milky Way, and even satellites. It was absolutely magical, and it wouldn't have happened without Daniel. He even brought his camera and took stunning photos, which he sent to us at the end of the day--such an amazing touch! This wasn't just a vacation--Daniel said something that really stuck to me, it was a reminder to slow down and reconnect with life and nature (I have a high stress career and always looking to disconnect). Riders beware before you book READ THIS!…read more We booked this spot based on the website stating "trail access" . I ended up calling due to questions around the permit needed to access trails. I was told to purchase one in town at the Conoco or somewhere else that sells them, ok fine no problem any other places that sell them?? Silence on the phone....crickets...ok ...then I asked about the trail access, hoping to get a site close to it because we have a side by side and I was told, and I quote "oh that trail is very small ", ok, how do we access the the other trails, "I am not sure you would have to call and find out ", really, you don't know the trail system but advertise trail access and have utv/atv pictures plastered on your website. Frustrating. When I said let me speak with my husband we may cancel if we can't access the trails, response was "ok"....huh?!? I mean, your not even going to ask me how you can help or get me a number or I mean just anything helpful? NOPE! She then went on about possible snow at the tree line and that we most likely couldn't ride, but to call and find out, nothing provided to help me find this out! How do you NOT know this, you have trail access? So again, why doesn't it say "seasonal" trail access or a disclaimer to verify trail access with maybe a link or something....anything!?? She then tells me, your UTV has to be licensed, street legal to ride the road to the other trails, but still doesn't know where they are but most likely closed. Small trail map on thier website but when I asked about this trail, wasn't sure if that was a trailhead or the small one she told me about, frustrating. Now, I fully understand, the person who was speaking to me, who was very nice and very pleasant, could be wrong or not understand trails, but for $65 dollars a night and a permit fee on a "hope" to ride, just no. I feel the website is misleading, staff not informed about trail system, SMH. Now, on the site they have a small trail map, is that the trail they are referring to the is small or is this a trail head, is there another trail, THEY HAD NO CLUE. I am aware that as a rider you have to do research, ultimately it's up to us to find trail maps, know the laws etc...but don't advertise trail access and you can't tell me where, how to access, how far is the trail, is it open.....basic questions, should have answers. We have been on a ton of trails, ORV parks, traveling through the US riding and each place provided so much more information, extremely helpful. We canceled at this Campsite due to lack of help or information. Booked today at 9:50am, called with questions then decided to cancel at 12:30pm same-day, still charged $25 dollars to cancel, I understand about covering cost and time, but honestly your staff is not well informed to help riders feel confident in booking/staying.
