My husband and I brought our six-year-old granddaughter and two year-old grandson to play. I did not see a newer place set based on the address we went to. It was an older ship designed playset. A small playset and it was quite busy so it was crowded. The place that is for age 2 to 5. The nice thing about it is that it was completely shaded, so that was a positive. But the place that itself was older and dirty and needed to be cleaned or repainted. There was a walking park around the playset, but I never saw a newer playset like pictured in the main photo for the park. There is also a small softball field and some covered picnic tables.

So, one…read moreSaturday after dance class we made the trek (and it is a bit more of a trek from OP than I was expecting!) out to Wilder Bluff Park, and I have to say, this is a pretty great spot to bring the kids. I got the feeling that it's still a bit of a hidden gem, probably because it's in a bit of an out of the way location, because there weren't a ton of cars, and while there were plenty of kids playing, it didn't feel crowded like other parks do on a nice Saturday morning in June. This park boasts a ton of great amenities for kids, and our kids really enjoyed the tree houses that they could climb through, which entertained them for about an hour. There is also a really cool splash playground adjacent to it, which had we known about in advance we may have brought some swim gear so the girls could really enjoy it. The park itself I think is much bigger than just the playground area, as I saw some trails nearby that might would have been fun to explore had we been there longer, or with kids that were eager to walk rather than climb and run! I'll close by adding that this park is new-ish and super well maintained. We used the restrooms and they are really clean for a park. Overall, this park is a gem for the folks that live right around it. I'm sure we'll return on another nice weekend morning when we want a change of pace.

Afterwards, they tried out all the neat equipment and they especially liked the long rope bridge and sliding down the slide. The park also has a trail and is kept up well and a large parking lot. The bathrooms were clean and overall very nice park. The only thing is I wish there was a little bit more shaded seating for the parents to watch the children during the splash park play.

But parking can be done on the street near the curb of the park. It's a quiet park with a small playground with newer equipment. There is a variety of regular swings, and also the larger swings for several kids. There is a walking trail that appears to be a loop. It's a small park, but it's nice and peaceful.

There's no dedicated parking lot, but plenty of street parking. They have swings (2 baby ones, 2 normal ones, and two round tire type swings). The playground equipment is kind of advanced, but there are definitely things for younger littles. The ground is rubber material, so great for crawlers/ kiddos who are starting to walk! I appreciate it that the play areas we went to had partial shade from the alcove of trees. There was a variety of play sets spread out with natural features of tree stumps and such for the kids to climb on. They had a lot of nice walking plaques to explain the walking trail. The golfing disc course was nice because a lot ofit was shaded. We will definitely go back to check out more of it when it is less hot.

I believe there was also sporting fields that I wasn't paying that close of attention to it since my primary reason for going was the playground. The playground had toddler all the way to older kids play equipment. It was all newer and well-maintained and soft under footing material. The two-year-old grandchild enjoyed it and my six-year-old grandchild also enjoyed it. There was a sitting area that had a cover over it for shade. Most of the play area is in the sun, but the day that we went it was often on cloudy and windy so it was tolerable. It was not busy for a summer day. But around 4 PM two summer camps showed up so everyone left because that would've been a lot of kids on the playground.

A little PSA: the walking trail goes right by a small fishing pond and we just paid $1,200 to pull a fishing hook out of our dog's intenstines. Be super careful with your animals near there. Below you'll see photos of the pond. Notice that the nearest trash can is actually in a picnic shelter up the hill. There really should be a place to dispose of fishing line near the sign postings so that this has a lower chance of dropping on the trail and letting animals eat it.

I have been to Ernie Miller many times over the years and I love this place. I was a little…read moredisappointed on today's visit with my toddler grandson. The staff member was nice who greeted us. And we were actually the only people on the inside of the nature center, so we got to enjoy it in a peaceful environment. There were some field trip kids having event events outside. My grandson enjoyed exploring, but I was disappointed to see that quite a few of the displays were out of order. Also, I had to tell staff that there was a mouse in bird nature viewing area. A child had left a cracker, and apparently a mouse had gotten in was taking advantage of it! But then I went into the newer section with the displays and another mouse ran out and was running around the room towards my grandson. So I think they need to correct this issue before it gets too out of hand. The trails are great and the natural gardens are as well. They have some great programs for the community. I just think that some of the displays need to be fixed and taking care of the pest problem, I'm sure if they let the hawk in there he would handle it! lol

I love living in Olathe! One of the many reasons is because…read moreof the work they put into their parks! Haven Park is an absolute gem smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There are big trees, a great colorful playground, sand volleyball, a single pickleball/tennis court, half court basketball, a large, flat multi use grass field with a baseball cage, a paved path around the perimeter of the park where you can visualize your kids from almost any angle. There are quite a few corners of the park that need some attention, such as run down wooden benches, the perimeter of the sand volleyball court and a plethora of weeds in the grass. But the tennis/pickle ball court looks like it was recently patched and is in great shape, the pavement for the basketball hoop is looking great, and all the landscaping is really well done. What a blessing!
