Went to Black Market last weekend for the first time in ages and man, it still hits different. Walked in around midnight, no ridiculous line, just that familiar raw warehouse energy--exposed concrete, dim lights, and the bass already thumping through the floor. The crowd was a perfect mix: locals in hoodies and sneakers, some foreigners vibing, everyone just there to lose themselves in the music. Caught this killer hip-hop/trap set that had the whole place moving without feeling forced or pretentious like a lot of BGC spots. Slipped upstairs to Mao Den for a bit--smaller room, tighter sound, killer cocktails--and it felt like its own little secret world. Left at 4am sweaty, happy, and already planning the next one. If you want real underground Manila nights without the dress code drama, this place is still unbeatable. 5 stars every time. read more

Black Market is hands down my favorite and go-to club in Manila. It's not your typical kind that you mostly find in Manila, the atmosphere here is much more relaxed and you can dress casually. It is an underground industrial warehouse type of club that focuses mainly on underground music. It is where you can usually find independent, up and coming local and international artists playing mostly hip hop, bass and trap music. Most of the time, it's not really for the EDM type. This place also has different areas inside, which offers different ambiances and music scenes too. On the second floor, they have the Mao Den, a room which has its own DJ and bar. Black Market is also the place where I always celebrate "birthday salubongs" and halloween with friends, which were always fun! This is one of the things that I miss back home. If you're looking for a place where you can let your hair down and go crazy, but the vibe at the BGC clubs are a bit way too hoity-toity for you, may I suggest you check out Black Market. The joint has an authentic industrial feel to it, because it was literally a warehouse back then. Black Market is perfect for those who want to want to go to a club and listen/dance to the latest club anthems, without feeling like you have to measure up to everybody. Well, you still kinda have to, but it's not as bad here. Black Market is the destination of choice for both up-and-coming and established local acts, as well as fringe international acts. Any given week, you'll get the best the local clubbing scene has to offer right at Black Market, AND you don't have to kill yourself looking the part. And if you feel the need to get some fancy drinks, you can go to Finders Keepers right beside Black Market, where the bartender will do an entire Cirque de Soleil routine on your cocktail, which you will then proceed to demolish in two minutes. read more

16 hours after I landed in Manila (from an 8AM arrival) I found myself exhausted but invigorated when I stepped into Black Market on a Saturday night. It was a decent crowd but no wait or anything to get in. While the clubby scene isn't usually my thing, the juxtaposition of furniture + cement floors + some trap-ish music was actually working for me. It was definitely one of the hippest places I ended up at when in Manila, reminded me a lot of a Brooklyn warehouse event, but also didn't feel like it was trying too hard - just a diverse group of people doing their own thing on a Saturday night. It was also extremely cold in there which was a pleasant surprise - I guess dimly lit concrete style has its benefits. read more

If you're not a bubblegum EDM fan, and more into the Hip-Hop, Bass, and Trap scene. Black Market is where you should be. The drinks are typical club priced. I'm not a fan of clubbing. I don't particularly enjoy the dress-up, see and be seen, tequila shot-downing EDM culture. That said, I absolutely adore Black Market. It's a club, but not in the typical sense: bright fancy clubbing interiors give way to a dingy industrial warehouse aesthetic. An underground electronica scene takes the place of the typical Traktor playlist found in other nightlife venues. Bad Decision Wednesdays are for the billboard top 100 oriented, while weekends tend to be more for local and international electronic artists. And if you're not feeling the music on the main floor, head upstairs for a hidden room and enjoy a pint of draft beer with completely different beats. Despite Black Market's intimidating façade (A club in the middle of nowhere. No sign. Everyone's already there except for you.), there's no red tape here. The bouncers even smile! Call me a hipster all you want, but I prefer my clubbing here (in shorts). read more

Black Market is one of the last, decent places to go clubbing in Makati (As all of them seem to have moved to the Fort area). And it's not a club at all. It's a warehouse. (I'm not kidding. Even the address says La Fuerza Warehouse.) So you know what to expect: dingy, concrete floors, metal stairs and nothing much on the interior design front, except for a couple of UV light murals on the second floor. Black Market is more eclectic than your usual EDM. Depending on the day and the disk jockey, music could range from trap, ambient, techno... and even dance hall, on one of the Thursdays I went there. If there's one tip I could give to you, don't go during Bad Decision Wednesdays. If you were going there last year, I'd be all for it. But recently, a lot of people have been flocking to it, even resulting in a line! You could hardly move, let alone dance inside. (In Finders Keepers as well! It's a crowd.) I used to like the vibe of Black Market, but recently it's been the "go-to" place, where you could be seen being one of the cool kids. I know, I sound all hipster-y, disliking a place just because it became mainstream, but it's true. Gone is the laid back, chill vibe of the place, and lots of people have been going here in their fancy stilettos, short black dresses and the desire to be seen as part of Makati's cool kid crowd. read more

My first time experiencing the "gimmick" scene in the Philippines was Black Market & they weren't kidding when they say, "it's more fun in the Philippines!" I haven't been to the Philippines since 2006 & I'm so stoked that majority of my cousins are now of age to go out. I went out on a Saturday night & I was lucky enough I was still on American time because clubs out here close at freakin 6am compared to California clubs that close at 2/3AM. I had just arrived to the Philippines 3 nights before so I was still on jet lag mode. Great experience! The ambience was a typical Metro Manila vibe with a diverse group of people so you're not just looking at JUST Filipinos. They had a separate room for a bar & the alcohol price was definitely the best price coming from someone who's gone clubbing in California. I would say at least $3 for a shot or tall glass of mixed drink depending what you order. We had bottle service & heck! That was a decent experience as well. Good variety of music. The night started off with an EDM type of look & by the midnight, hip hop jams started going on. read more

Manila has a great underground electronic scene, and Black Market is THE place to catch tons of both emerging and well-known music producers, and occasionally some household names/collectives in the international underground scene. (Like Soulection!) Expect producers on deck to dish out a lot of ambient, trap, glitch, techno. If you want something a little less "different," go on a Wednesday night, where beat makers play hip hop and trap. Fridays are for a more underground kind of sound. In the morning, it innocently looks like a regular warehouse. But on Wednesday to Saturday nights, the venue feels like an actual Black Market. The only landmark that'll let you know you're at the right place is a food truck (okay, and maybe some hipsters outside) and the only way in is through a tiny door amidst a huge black wall. The entranceway looks shabby and industrial, but the inside is more cleaned up, albeit still heavily industrial and dark. The 2nd floor is small, but also has a very pretty darklight art wall. Don't expect a swanky setup, or anything like the usual party scene; that's definitely not what you're going to get--except the drinks are a little bit pricier than usual. Regardless of the day you visit, come as you are. Ditch the club wear. Black Market focuses more on quality, experimental electronic music and plain old fun THROUGH the music (and a drink or two.) read more

If you're like me and you want an entire experience, Black Market has gotta be on your radar for a night out with the crew! It's a completely different scene from anywhere else in Manila! Completely hidden away from anybody who doesn't know it's there. It's a party scene where what matters is that you have fun above anything else! All you need and all you get are the bare essentials here! You get a cold drink, a little space to dance, and some pretty kickass music! If you are into the underground scene and hip-hop and trap beats get you pumped up, then Black Market is the place for you. The bar is nestled in a warehouse-type of structure and you'll never really know that there is one hell of a party happening on the inside. Come here during Bad Decisions Wednesday and get your night full of dancing fix. More than the music, I find it amazing how the crowd here is a mix of all kinds of nationalities, all sharing the same groove as you. What's interesting about this place is it's two places in one. The bar is divided into two floors, and at the top floor, they have this room access which they call the Mao Den, playing the different beats with their own separate DJ and bar. This is definitely not the usual superclub or bar you'd find in Manila and that is actually what sets it apart from what we are all used to when we're talking about a night of partying. read more

Black Market is a unique place. Found in an unlikely area of Makati that isn't really known for its hip happenin' places, it feels as underground as the name suggests. You walk into a nondescript looking doorway, go through a short hall, and then walk into what looks like a warehouse that was turned into something that looks like it came out of a movie. But what's most interesting about Black Market isn't necessarily the location or the interior decor, but the people and the music being played. Like any regular will tell you, Black Market has featured some of the most talented DJs on the local and international scene. Want a place where it seems like people don't care one little bit about "being seen"? Then this place is definitely the place to go to. People here come for the music, and for the insane party that goes on every night this place is open. Definitely a must-try in the Manila night scene. read more

I really don't know who I'm fooling, every time I'm at Black Market I tell myself I'm never coming back... And then I find myself here again a few weeks after. This, literal, hole in the wall has become a favorite of party-goers in the city. The warehouse feel, neon painted murals and genre-less music has created a following amongst its fans and it's quite obvious because it's ALWAYS PACKED. It's so difficult to get inside and when you do, good luck getting back out. It's given me a claustrophobic attack once because it's got fire hazard written all-over it. Yet, there's always something that calls me to come back, probably because my friends are always there (or because of the good drunk food outside). Whatever it is, looks like Black Market will be in the night life game for a long time. It's got everything you need for a night you probably wont remember. read more

I am always drawn to places that are not only cool but also has very awesome music. Nowadays a lot of people are fans of EDM but I personally have a different taste when it comes to music. I'm more of an indie, classics, 80s, pink, hip-hop kind of girl. It's just basically not mainstream loud music. Black Market definitely has DJs that play sweet and sick beats. It's the kind of hip-hop I really like. Not too loud and not too rowdy. It's pretty laid back with a groove. The place is also cool. It's very industrial and thematic. There's an area with walls painted with neon colors. The people here are also my kind of people. They're just chill in their own way and they dance the way they want to. There's a lot of dancing going on here too. A lot of dancers like to bust a move from time to tine and it's super cool to watch. Black Market is just an awesome place with awesome people and awesome music. read more
