If you just need some space to place your mats down, it should be just fine. Incredible trails alongside the water for walking, jogging, and bike riding. Dogs are welcome but just make sure you pick up after them (I noticed a good number of dog poop near the water edge). Want to take a dip? Feel free! Quite cold but more than welcome to. Biggest reason why we came here? To see how the Kayak Rental system worked. Scan the QR code or visit the site to book your rentals and sign waivers. I was told they rented daily by a worker (young ones) but their online reservations just show weekends and random Wednesdays.. so good luck. Honestly Rental prices are higher than another spot we've been to, but this spot was much closer to home and easier to access. Price for convenience! We didn't go kayaking on this particular day but definitely plan to return with our own paddle board/Kayaks since it just makes sense to invest and go whenever we want versus rent a few kayaks with high rental feels. Who wants to return within 1 hr?! No way, you gotta stay out in the midst of nature for at LEAST a few hours! Pathway Tip: Walking or jogging? Stay on your left. Biking? Stay on your right. Went out to Black Miners Ravine to get on the paddleboard and just decompress a little. This time of year out there is hard to beat... good vibes, calm water, and a chance to shut the brain off for a bit. Nothing super exciting in this review, just one of those peaceful days you appreciate more as you get older lol. Now fair warning... that water is COLD cold when you first step in but once you're out there it's worth it. Even the ducks were just cruising around being friendly and minding their business. This is my first time here. Usually I would go to nimbus flat or folsom lake to paddle board. But this spot was recommended by my sister. I like that it has a boat launch areas but also beach front area for paddling or kayaking. I especially like that they Jane paddle board rentals and life jackets nearby. The beach are is shallow in which kids can play without parents worrying, however there is a life guard. Its a pretty big park, as there are bbq areas to picnic. Would definitely come back here to picnic or just paddle board. read more

Variety of activities here. Part of the State Park system, there is a fee for parking. Which there is plenty of, but it can fill on summer days. Couple different places to put in a kayak or paddle board -- including a small beach area with restrooms, tables, vendors and more. Adjacent to that is a large grassy area with picnic tables, more restrooms and grilling areas. Access to the paved bike trail and many dirt trails network through the area as well. Black miners bar is a great experience I went a little further than I did previously on my walk. I didn't notice much of a hike in the area but you can definitely walk for miles on end. If anybody knows where I can actually find some elevation let me know. I got a free state park pass from the library, typically you pay the state park fee to enter this park. It's basically located Folsom Citrus Heights border. They also have a lake where you can get in paddle board fish, there is a horse stable not too far away I've seen horses come through there. Also the big talk when I was walking was the fact that they had an Eagles Nest somewhere close by, and you could see the eagle it's if you accessed it from a specific trail. I saw the nest but I didn't see any Eagles. This is a great Park to venture, I highly suggest researching the history of the park. It was great history of a black miners. read more

I went here on a Sunday afternoon for a picnic. It cost $10 to park, and there were a few different parking areas. The far parking lot is where people take their paddle boards. The close parking lot is the one by the beach. There are bathrooms down by the beach and one by the parking lot. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because the bathroom didn't have toilet paper or paper towels or soap. This beach is dog friendly, but there are some things you should be aware of. There are geese (and therefore goose poop) everywhere. So, if your dog is gross like mine, they might try to roll in goose poop. Other triggers for reactive dogs are that up by the parking area, there are a S**TTON of squirrels and they are so very brave. One ran under our picnic table while my dog was sitting on the table. Not okay. And lastly, there was an off leash dog there, which is a trigger for my dog. I really liked how all the picnic tables had shade over them. read more

Great spot for a walk, paddle boarding, kayaking or just having a picnic. I rented a paddle board which was easy to reserve online. I rented it out for the day. It was great being on the water, it was so peaceful. I loved the little water trails around the different size "islands". Plus you could do a longer stretch towards the Folsom bridges. I came here on a Saturday morning with a group of friends and it was a nice hike. This hike is great for all ages. I seen children walk on the trails to the elderly people. I love that there was CPR people riding bikes around trail to ensure everyone's safe. The trail is also well kept as well. Highly recommend 10/10 Bonus there was plenty of parking! read more

I'm loving this location for the summer fun. I can't believe 30 years of living I just now found out about it. My family and friends usually go to nimbus lake or Folsom lake but this location is perfect and it's right in the middle of them. There are boulder areas right under the Folsom Blvd bridge I believe the name is rainbow bridge. You can lounge or jump off of them. When the sun is high and bright you can see clearly through the water to the floor bed. I recently purchased a SUP so I am going to start to take it out more often. This location have plenty of fire grills, benches, there's a kayak rental, and best of all a few gazebos to help give you some shade. Plenty of parking as well. We absolutely love visiting this location when the weather is warm and the sun is out. The boat launch area is perfect to kick off your paddle boards or kayaks. We actually like parking more towards the park. It's a great spot to grill at one of the picnic areas and to launch off to explore the lagoons or either in the direction of Folsom prison or towards Lake Natoma. The water is way cleaner. Roth of Tiscornia park so that's a huge plus and the currents aren't crazy so it's great for beginners. Always stay safe and bring a PFD just in case though. read more

Great rec area on the north end of Lake Natoma. It is much smaller than the Southern dam end of the lake. Nice parking areas, good amount of picnic tables, and clean restrooms. There are paddle board and kayak rentals here too. We brought our lunch and rented a couple kayaks for the morning. This part of the lake is calm and easy to navigate. There were a lot of people and families out on this hot day, but not like further south. read more

Had a fun time kayaking with the hubby in our inflatable kayak. Saw lots of families out there. There were teens jumping off rocks, SUPs with dogs & children, other kayaks with dogs & children. Saw a few fish and lots of geese and ducks in the water, and a few hawks in the air. Beautiful scenery. There's free "rental" of life jackets for kids if you forgot to bring them. Long bike path as well that'd be good for people w strollers. Hiking paths available as well but we only went briefly on the bike path before turning back due to lack of shade. On Wednesday we tagged along with my friend Chantelle M and her kids I nanny. The boating dock was the only area open since the beach area was under construction. If you visit I would suggest bringing some water shoes since it's a rocky area and you want to protect your feet. Wish we invested in some! I would recommend visiting this place and we're looking forward to visiting the beach area again once it's open! Located in the Folsom Lake area, this is the spot where African American miners became the first to inspect the gravel bar in 1850. And was one of the largest gold camps by the American River. We are SO HAPPY that Folsom finally changed the name. It was soooo....awkward before. We referred to it as "the recreation area by the Cliff House". Fun at the lake! Our instructions were to make an immediate right after the entrance booth and follow the signs to the kayak and paddle board rentals... and we did, we found our friends! Came here one beautiful Saturday afternoon to enjoy food and fellowship with friends. Very nice, clean park which includes a picnic area and boat launch and lots of big, shady trees to screen us from the sun rays. There were nearby restrooms, garbage bins for easy clean up, lots of picnic tables with BBQ grills that are nicely spaced to have some 'privacy' from groups of families (our group took over three picnic tables down the wooden stairs closer to the water). Very family/dog friendly picnic grounds. Negro Bar Recreational Area lies on the northern shore of the American River in Folsom. Negro Bar is a great spot for hiking, biking and just relaxation. Saw plenty of picnickers, kayakers, swimmers, and some recreational anglers (a person who fishes with a hook). Kayaks and paddle board were available for rental. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. There is a $10 entrance fee to the park. It was my first time here and I've not ventured to the rest of the grounds but seemed like a nice place for lots of family fun activities. I've been here before when my kids were adolescents and we would bring a motorized raft and put around on the water. We paid a $10 fee and there were many outlets where you can find many areas to picnic at. We chose a place by the water and it was surprisingly not crowded. This place is mainly for inflatable boat, SUP board, kayaking. We had an amazing day at this lake. I came here on Sunday with my family. It was crowded because of Father's Day.
