I watched the sunset at this hidden gem in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Sacramento. The dramatic bridge is what separates this spot from the rest of the nearby parks and let me tell you -- the views of the sunset depicts images that cannot be unseen. Parking is not great as I ended up parking in front of a nearby business complex lot. Not sure if there is a designated parking spot for visitors but I wouldn't doubt it -- I probably just landed on the other side of the park which has very minimal parking. There were a lot of couples and groups of friends walking along the bridge. Many stopped to take photos or to just sit and enjoy the views. Pictures do not serve this place justice. It's one of those places where you have to see for yourself so make the trip. My evening spent here was full of magic, romance, and newfound inspiration. I look forward to visiting again.

The Park Ranger was a great help provided me a map of the trails. The view from the bluffs is amazing.

This was our go-to spot for getting on the American River Trail on our visit. The view from the bridge is spectacular and I got some wonderful shots of the sunset. Note that Google takes you to is a residential area with very limited parking options. If you go to the other side of the bridge, there is a parking lot that you can use. Everyone walking on the left threw me off. I actually asked some people on why that is and they said that it's the norm here. When in Rome...

This spot is great. It overlooks the river and has some cool trees that have been defying gravity for decades. Be careful though you wouldn't want to fall off the cliff, only Batman could survive that fall.

Easy, short, but very beautiful trail. I have lived here for 11 years, and just now checked this place out with my kids, ages 3, 5, and 11, which the walk was also manageable and safe for them. Come check it out!

I saw a great blue heron up close! The bluffs are beautiful. Park in the village and walk down Bridge Street. Clean, fairly unpopulated with great bird noises!

    Beautiful day

Beautiful short little walk to the bluffs off of Bridge Street in Village Fair Oaks. The views are beautiful and you can watch the fish jump. It is best to park in the Village and walk to the bluffs.

Lead to someone's house/property. Did street parking and walked 10 minutes just to have to walk all the way back. Ridiculous

Great for a short hike. It is really pretty at Sunrise and Sunset if you can make it during that time.

Great little trail and a beautiful view. Would not recommend going under the bridge. There's usually some sort of homeless encampment there

Hope it helps! Entrance is accessible from Greenback Ln with $10 fee required per vehicle. 2 Parking lots available - 1 closer to boat launch area and another further lot that's more convenient for picnic areas and tables. Plenty of tables and area for lots of families to enjoy some water festivities! Have a big party or just want to lock down a few tables? Highly advise to come early. If you just need some space to place your mats down, it should be just fine. Incredible trails alongside the water for walking, jogging, and bike riding. Dogs are welcome but just make sure you pick up after them (I noticed a good number of dog poop near the water edge). Want to take a dip? Feel free! Quite cold but more than welcome to. Biggest reason why we came here? To see how the Kayak Rental system worked. Scan the QR code or visit the site to book your rentals and sign waivers. I was told they rented daily by a worker (young ones) but their online reservations just show weekends and random Wednesdays.. so good luck. Honestly Rental prices are higher than another spot we've been to, but this spot was much closer to home and easier to access. Price for convenience! We didn't go kayaking on this particular day but definitely plan to return with our own paddle board/Kayaks since it just makes sense to invest and go whenever we want versus rent a few kayaks with high rental feels. Who wants to return within 1 hr?! No way, you gotta stay out in the midst of nature for at LEAST a few hours! Pathway Tip: Walking or jogging? Stay on your left. Biking? Stay on your right. Standard Placer County rules. Great spot for families whether you want to picnic, swim, paddleboard, kayak, go for a nice walk, jog, or bike along gorgeous river waters scenery. Have fun!!

This takes me to the city of Folsom where I stumbled across "Hinkle Creek Nature Area", a place I had not even heard about until making an actual visit. Located in a residential part of Folsom alongside Baldwin Dam Rd., this park/nature preserve is closest to Oak Ave and Folsom-Auburn Rd while being just west of the American River. I came here with my lady during the afternoon of Sunday 2/1/2026 at around 1:00pm. Much to my surprise, parking was free and easily accessible. What I particularly liked about this nature area was that you may enter through either a paved or unpaved trail as the entire walk stretches in just under a mile. And much to my surprise, the 36-acres that accommodates this park actually made me feel as if I was more in the open air wilderness. Since we came during a comfortable day, we witnessed a ton of fresh green grass and the absence of leaves on many of the trees. During my walk, The overall nature area is the perfect spot for relaxed, leisurely walks that even the most non-skilled person can do while it is stroller and pet friendly. I also wanted to add that the trail can also be used for mountain biking and even horseback riding even though we did not witness that on our walk. I also encourage everyone to pay a visit to the actual Hinkle Creek Nature Center that offers useful information and educational programs to children. All in all, this is an excellent and well-maintained nature center that caters to all walks of life. My rating, a unanimous five stars.

Go in the spring time when the grass is green and lush. This is a gem of a find.

This was my first impression as soon as we drove into Ancil Hoffman Park. I didn't realize that the golf course and park combination was so big and separate at the same time. It's truly a hidden gem, hidden behind such beautiful, large, custom homes and huge, gorgeous trees - after all its nestled in The City of Trees, Sacramento! I really enjoyed my first time visit. To be clear, the half dirt/half cement trail is a little over 3 miles (per Apple Watch) that outlines and circles the golf course. It's nice because most, if not all of the trail is shaded! You can hear so much birds and sounds of nature, but you're not somewhere in the center of the woods, you're literally just in the suburbs of FairOaks and Carmichael- it's crazy!
