Finally we were told to try A Country State Of Mind Guest House. With incredible good fortune, her guests had cancelled at the last minute, so there was room at the inn! It was the great serendipity of our romantic getaway! June, the owner and proprietor made us feel like her best friends, taking us on a tour of all the best places to have fun, and set up our easels and paint! The guest house was charming, pristine, and well appointed. The location was close enough to Mason and Llano, but far enough out to avoid the tourists, and have an authentic Hill Country weekend, surrounded by radiant wildflowers, and comfortable in our cozy hideaway!

The home is unassuming, but had everything we needed, including a few perks like a big kitchen, screened-in porch, and wi-fi.The view is great, and we saw lots of birds. There are a couple of other houses on the property, so this would make for a nice weekend retreat for a group. The river is a short walk away, and the kids had a blast swimming and kayaking. We felt very at home. Denise, the property manager, lives right next door and was super sweet and helpful. Oh, and Castell is a cute small town. Poking around the historic church, school house, and cemetery was fun.

Accommodations were Rustic and Well appointed. It was so easy to melt into the landscape and enjoy the breeze. Our excursions included primitive knife throwing, paint ball and ropes course. Training was of the highest caliber and focused on team work and leadership. I was so impressed how every member of our group conquered the Power Pole! Nights were spent in the main house grilling out and bonding. The boys camped out in the bunk house. We even took a lake swim right off the main lawn. I couldn't of ask for a better way to get closer to my son. I will most definitely be back.

They have in-window AC and heating units (which came in handy for the cold snap we received this weekend), a bathroom that included showers, toilets, mirror, and sinks for you to get ready in the morning, and bunk beds with mattresses that actually were quite comfortable. Overall, the cabin facilities were good. We also used a couple of the classrooms that were a bit more run-down that I would have preferred and the in-window heating seemed to be a hit or a miss. The tables could use a refresher and the windows could use an update. The restroom facilities that we used while outside of the cabin were less than stellar. It was neat that there was a washer/dryer on site in the restroom, but the bathroom doors were falling off the hinges and the toilets flushed when they felt like it. The bathroom could use a refresher alongside the classrooms. The grounds were lovely. There were several picnic table areas for us to hang out under trees and enjoy the great outdoors. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and the facilities were quite well done... They could use a refresher in some of the common areas.

After finding a couple of places closed, we called Barons Creekside. Best thing we ever did! We spoke to Lasca, who was actually out with her family for dinner Despite this, she got us set up in the cutest farmhouse, gave us directions and instructions to get in, and after her dinner was over, she stopped by to check if we needed anything. The excellent service did did not stop there. We were treated like family, and we really enjoyed walking the beautiful, scenic grounds and hanging out at "The Club" on property! Next time we go to Fredericksburg, we know where we will stay - at Barons Creekside!

Despite the historically low water levels, we could not have had a better time, as always. The owners have gone to incredible lengths to ensure that The Famous Float House continues to deliver on its reputation as one of the most fun, uniquely situated, spots on all of Lake Travis for all ages. And like we always do, we were totally able to rent a Tri-toon boat from a local marina and motor it into the canal where the Float House is located and then use the awesome motorized dingy the Float House owners provide to run people and coolers out to the Tri-toon for then our usual amazing afternoon on Lake Travis. The whole thing was a breeze. And the new little motorized dingy is so much fun to have at the Float House to cruise around in and fish from. Anyhow, it could not have been a better, more fun weekend and we can't wait to go back later this season.
