Walking into Black Star Bakery & Cafe, the warm and welcoming colors immediately set the tone and mood. I loved the decor and the plants throughout the entire shop. It created such a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. I was able to take my time looking over the menu before deciding on an iced matcha latte with oat milk and a prosciutto and cheese croissant, which was warm and delicious. The cafe was very clean and inviting, and the service was excellent. If you're looking for a relaxing cafe to visit before a busy day, I definitely recommend Black Star Bakery & Cafe. read more

Packed room, zero personal space, and the coldest interaction I've had all week. I asked the cashier how she was doing (just being polite!) and she stared at me like -____- before flipping the screen around for a tip. Ma'am?? Then they called out "Robert" for like five minutes while I stood there confused because... my name is Rosa. Which we told the cashier. I had to go full inspector gadget just to confirm that this was my order. And the coffee? Mid. Had to hit the fix-it-yourself station hard just to make it drinkable. The pastry I got was cold and tiny...I wish the cashier would've asked whether I wanted it heated up. With so many amazing coffee shops around (in Williamsburg of all places) that actually serve good coffee and smile at you, I won't be back. I do not recommend going here, there's so many better coffee shops within one block. Just on the block: Lions Milk, Vittoria Mercado, Quawah House, even Dunkin is better. If you're willing to expand radius there's many more. Although the coffee is very mid, I used to come here a lot because it's still the closest coffee shop. I usually only get one drink so haven't had this issue before, but am really disappointed with their rewards system/stamp card policy with a recent order. I got 2 drinks $16 total and only got 1 stamp on my card. I told the person taking my order that I ordered 2 drinks and they refused to give me more than one star which is really bad service and has never happened to me before at any coffee shop that has a stamp reward policy. read more

Decent coffee and a standard selection of baked goods are available at this Black Star location. Watch out though, you don't want to get cut because of how edgy they are! No wifi, because that encourages people to talk to each other...or so the theory goes (yet, for some reason everyone was staring intently into their phones). Laptop users are relegated to an uncomfortable two seats that are positioned directly into the sun, so that the only two people who need to be able to see a screen can't. I guess if you don't want people to camp out for hours after buying a single coffee, these draconian measures make sense. But how about just set a time limit instead of relegating customers to uncomfortable seating based solely on the size of the screen they're staring at? read more

Food (3/5) Coffee was standard, no complaints, and enjoyed the pastries too - had the churro croissant (kind of a sugar coating on top of the croissant), and the spinach ricotta danish. While I did enjoy the service (they're friendly) and the display of baked goods in the front, the quality wasn't quite up to par. I ordered a raspberry-filled croissant and a regular latte. Don't expect to be able to use the restroom here on the weekend, the management posts the same bogus "out of order" sign on the door each and every weekend like clockwork. (Look for the "wet floor" sign to keep customers out as well.) You'd think a local a local place like this would want to take better care of their regular customers. Other recurring issues include loud droning music & running an air conditioner even on some of the coldest days. Sometimes these are addressed when a complaint is voiced, and sometimes not. The perfect spot for a sweet treat! I came here craving a latte and chocolate croissant and was definitely in for a surprise when they told me all pastries were 2 for 1 at the time. The croissants are the perfect combination of buttery and flaky while the espresso was roasted to perfection. Interior is super cute as well with large windows- perfect for people watching. Was on my daily walk and decided to stop in a try this bakery. I'm a sucker for breakfast sandwiches so I decided to try their egg and cheese on a plain croissant along with a chai latte. I took both of the items to go and enjoyed them at home. I stopped in around 9:30 AM on a Monday and it was fairly busy. There were quite a few people there for to go items and almost all of the tables were filled with folks enjoying their beverages and pastries. They have a pretty extensive menu with a number of different drink items along with breakfast items, and pastries. At check out there is a cute little basket with DIY cookies that I thought was so cute and I would love to stop back in and get one for myself. Overall, I enjoyed stopping in at this bakery and will be back more often on my walks. read more

I simply adore everything about this place. Great coffee and food, interesting menu so well thought out and delicious. Clean, bright, just the right noise level, great attention to detail with the decor. Amazingly friendly service. I wish every counter type place would take their cues from here ! The ONLY thing I'd change is (as a designer:) is lose the fake flowers on the tables. They just don't fit with the classy clean healthy feel of the place. The pastries and sandwiches here are excellent! I had one of the best turkey pesto sandwiches on a croissant here. It's worth commuting to have a vanilla matcha. Skip Starbucks and support this place instead! I have visited 3 times. My cashier, Alex, was so kind and had a great attitude. On Halloween, there was a BOGO sale on pastries. It was towards the end of the day so they threw in a third pastry for me. It made my day! There's no public wifi which likely protects the ambiance from a flood of laptops. Makes it so you can usually find a seat even when it's a little busy. read more

The manager, the tall blonde lady with the most Karen stare I've ever seen, is absolutely atrocious. Every time I've come in she's incredibly rude. One time I went up to order and she just looked at me saying "is everything okay?" In the rudest most aggressive way possible and I was literally sick with a cold. She screams at her workers, who are incredibly nice people. The other day my friend and I got coffee and she screamed my name, mispronouncing it three times and said this drink belongs to a female. She got angry and was telling us we had the wrong drink. It was actually the right one. She fake apologized. Unprofessional and disgusting behavior. - maybe she will get my name right when she gets fired for being an awful person. read more
