Cute coffee shop with Indian influence. The cashier was super enthusiastic when I asked for her recommendation and her favorites. I ended up with the stovetop masala chai. It tasted authentic with the initial sip but the more I drink, the more watery it becomes. It's probably not mixed well. I was also a bit disappointed that they didn't top the drink with star anise like how it was done with the other masala chai... so it's a bit inconsistent. Upon finishing the drink, I saw a pile of brown sugar on the bottom. Overall, I like the vibe here. They have decent amount tables and seating that you can bring your laptop here to work... even with the Indian musics playing in the background, it doesn't distract the focus at all... which I really like. I love the New Orleans brew here! Probably one of my favorite spots for coffee in the area, the chicory root just adds such a depth of flavor. The baristas are quite friendly and efficient as well. I've tried Iced Dirty Chai at their Jersey City location and I really loved it. The top of the chai was so foamy. The drinks were both lightly sweetened with a hint of spices. In terms of sweet levels, chai latte is sweeter than dirty chai. ＊Tiramisu Donut, Blueberry Donut I don't eat donuts but these ones surprised me. It was like a donut-shaped muffin. They were not too sweet, and you could tell there wasn't any artificial flavoring. Here are the two staff favorite flavors: the blueberry one was served warm with blueberries studded inside. While my mom loved the blueberry donut, I preferred the tiramisu one. To me, it was more like a chai tiramisu donut as I could taste a kick of spices. ＊Salmon Everything Bagel Sandwich They offer plain/everything bagel and plain/scallion cream cheese. They go through the more involved process of heating up all the individual ingredients, which include cloves, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper, in front of you. While a bit of patience is required as you wait for your drink to be made, the skilled baristas here make a little show of the process, and before you know it, you'll be sipping on some of the best chai you can get in town. Pair that with one of their gulab jamun donuts and you can feel transported to afternoon tea time in India. Their coffee is quite good as well, as to be expected with a name like Hidden Grounds. I like the interesting latte flavors on offer like Honey Bee and Lavender, and a whole section of the menu dedicated to New Orleans style drinks. Their wifi is strong enough but seating is limited in their tiny space, with small uncomfortable stools and very tiny tables. You can make it work for a short while but it's not a spot I'd want to while away the hours at. read more

It's hard to impress me with coffee because I love buying good-quality beans and making coffee at home. I often like Brooklyn coffee shops for ambiance but don't always love their coffee. But I've been to this place twice so far and I think they're pretty fab. I've had the Brown Sugar Brew (hot coffee, not iced) and the Pour Over coffee (Ethiopia Kembata). Both were really good. It is on the pricey side but when getting pour over they're giving enough for two cups. And the rose donut was delicious. Next time I come I'd like to try one of their sandwiches or their avocado toast. The staff seemed really nice and helpful the times that I was there too, and coming midday on a weekday it wasn't hard to get seating. It's cool and pretty comfortable in there, and they have a restroom for customers. All in all it's a really nice place - definitely look forward to seeking Hidden Grounds out again before too long. read more

I walk by this spot frequently and finally had a chance to look at the menu. The second I saw they had more than one chai drink I ran over. The interior is beautifully decorated with dried flowers and the addition of family photos and as I later noticed you had the option of ordering from a tablet or the barista. The barista helped with me the chai options and I ended up ordering the masala chai and a pistachio donut to go. The chai tasted natural unlike a lot of other chai which can be overly sweet. The cake donut was quite thick and had what I felt like a hint of cardamom. There wasn't a ton of indoor seating but when I came in almost all of the seats were already taken. I'll definitely be back to try other items and as added bonus for me they seem to be quite dog friendly. read more

Can't say I know of any chai specific cafes in the area, unless you count Starbucks across the street. Your usual coffee options are also available. The cafe is sleek and nicely accented with dried flowers and frames. Nice place to work for a short period of time or catch up with a friend. Came in with on a super duper cold afternoon. We were warmed by the coziness of the cafe. The one man barista/cashier was helpful in describing the different chai offerings. The chai is a bit on the expensive side with the tradeoff of freshly made chai right in front of you. It does take some time so reserve 10-15 minutes before you get to enjoy your beverage. During the weekend, there are more staff. So far I've had the Masala and the Bombay cutting chai. Masala is the lighter flavor of the two. Bombay tasted like a strong HK milk tea with spice, a great jolt of caffeine to start your day (or night!). read more

I'm an espresso gal, but they since they were generously giving away drip coffee to us Yelp Elites, I gave it a go. It's easily the best drip coffee I've ever had! I still prefer the texture and coffee to water ratio of espresso, but I really like the roast they use. It's light and tangy. For a coffee roaster, they have an impressive selection of food. Long live cake donuts! I'm going to come back here to try all of the flavors. I really appreciate that the donut itself is flavorful. Some places make a very plain donut and depending on the icing to make it interesting. Not so here! The dough is spiced with cardamom, I think? I took the rose donut, partly because I love rose flavor, mostly because it had ground pistachios on top. The rose flavor is present, and the nuts add a satisfying crunch. It's not too sweet, just the perfect balance to the acidity of the coffee. Happy Hanukkah to all those observing this festival of fried foods! If you're looking for something more savory, they have plain croissants and cheddar scones. The barista was so friendly to us, and she clearly takes pride in serving an excellent product to her customers. She was able to welcome everyone who walked in and to keep the line moving quickly. Question: is the second time around as good as the first? Perhaps? Maybe? Answer: Yes, for me on my second visit at Hidden Grounds. I was in the beautiful Williamsburg area today and HG was close to Lucy's Vietnamese( my lunch spot), thus I stopped by for a quick snack. I had the pleasure of attending a Yelp Elite Event here last May and was so impressed. I was impressed with the vibe, food and the staff, especially the owner, Anand. Today I redeemed the lovely birthday coupon HG sent me. I couldn't remember the tea I ordered when I visited last May ( it was the Masala Chai! ) but my failing memory gave me the opportunity to try the Jasmine Silver tea and the pistachio donut winked at me thus I went for it. I sat down with my donut as my tea was being freshly brewed. The donut contained of course, pistachios, cardamom and lemon, truly scrumptious. The Jasmine tea was refreshing and hit the spot. I spoke to one of the employees and asked how HG was doing. She stated they were consistently busy due the weather cooling down. I told her I was happy to hear that. HG will always have my business whenever I'm in Williamsburg.. I will go out of my way wherever I am to sit in this beautiful cafe. Suggestion: you will too after one visit. read more

I've had bad chai, but I haven't had chai quite as bad as I have at Hidden Grounds Coffee. This is supposed to be a Desi-inspired cafe (something like that) and it completely missed the mark in doing so. First and foremost, everything is severely overpriced. Second, why is the chai watered down??? It is completely flavorless on top of that too unfortunately. By the looks of it they just mixed rooh afza with milk, maybe even water and called it a day. Third, why don't the lids work and why is there no coffee cup sleeve? My friend would've totally burned his hand if he wasn't careful. I didn't even bother with the donuts since the chai was so appalling. Hidden Grounds should quite frankly stay hidden- it was both a waste of money and time. read more

What a delightful spot - I absolutely loved it here. If I were a student or if I wanted to work remotely, this would be the place that I settled down for the whole day at. It's a quiet coffee shop right off the corner of the street, which individual table seating by the window, allowing for enough sunlight. The barista and the person at the cashier were all so nice and friendly. Since it was a hotter day, I ended up getting the iced masala chai with oat milk, and I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor wasn't so subtle and really came through. It paired well with the oat milk. I haven't been to the actual location yet, but I ordered through Ubereats. I got an iced honey bee latte and their new chicken tikka puff. The coffee was well balanced in sweetness with the honey and cinnamon, and the tikka puffs were delicious! Most places with good coffee have terrible frozen food or stale pastries, but definitely not the case here. The chicken tikka puffs were flaky and the side of mint chutney was the perfect addition.
