I wanted to try this bakery since it got great reviews. There's other locations in Manhattan but I went to the one on Bushwick. There is a lot of options to choose from in this bakery. Sweet and savory. From noodles to ongiris to dessert to cookies this place is amazing. I can't imagine you couldn't find something in here to eat. I got a beef curry bun, beef yakiniku roll, Kinpira (burdock root), sesame tuile cookie and a tiramisu coffee roll. Everything looked fresh and everything did taste good. The sesame cookie was delicious. I would definitely go back again if I'm in the area or try the other location in Manhattan. read more

I'm a longtime fan of the Tribeca location of Takahachi and it's nice that they opened one up in Brooklyn. Needed a treat after a spicy dinner nearby and this did the trick. Ube soft serve with thin crispy almond cookie topping was fantastic. Also grabbed some cookies to consume the next day (Miso almond cookie and diamond butter cookie). The diamond butter cookie was the better of the two, but neither were super memorable so I'd try something else next time. Get that soft serve!! read more

Dropped by after a performance at the nearby Red Pavilion and was really impressed by this charming little Japanese bakery! They offer so many delicious treats here, from a selection of breads and pastries (come earlier in the day for best selection), packaged baked goods like cookies, to chilled sandwiches, bowls, salads, drinks and sides, and warm bentos, sandwiches and miso soup. There's a freezer with some frozen items that can be taken to go or heated in the microwave. They also offer hot/cold coffee and tea drinks, individual dessert servings (cake slices, mont blancs, daifuku, etc), and last but not least a rotating menu of Asian soft serve flavors. The flavors of the day were matcha and black sesame, two of my faves so of course I had to get some--it was yummy! Both flavors were pronounced and the texture was pretty good. For food I tried the teriyaki sandwich $6.50 which was served warm and came with grilled zucchini. Tasty! The ham+egg salad sandwich $7.00 really hit the spot too, the egg salad was simple and perfect. It came with ham, lettuce, cucumber and tomato. Both were whole sandwiches cut into two halves and served on Japanese-style white bread--and very reasonably priced! I can't see how anyone living nearby wouldn't come here all the time. The food is so tasty and affordable! There are a few standing tables were customers can stand to eat their food, though it looked like a lot of customers opted to take away. I didn't have much interaction with staff though they were overall cordial and also informed everyone still in the bakery when it was about 10 min to closing. One bathroom available for customers and you need to punch in a code from the staff. read more

I got a chance to revisit Takahachi Bakery this past weekend and was wow'd yet again. I got an iced coffee as well as an onion egg pastry. I love that they have a microwave there so you can heat up any of their delicious eats. The pastry and the coffee were just perfect for a quick pick-me-up. I spied some delicious looking carbonara pasta and will definitely be getting it the next time! I also want to get their beef buns as well, which look scrumptious. read more

Stopped in to see their offerings for small takeout options. Ultimately got a bunch of pastries (which were so tasty), as well as two dinner meals. Got the spring rolls, which came with a delicious dipping sauce. Also got one of their spicy miso ramens, which was surprisingly flavorful. I thought the ramen itself was a little thin texture-wise but the seasoning was really delightful. Most importantly, everything was so cheap. I stopped by because some strangers at a nearby vintage store suggested it. The Ube Soft Serve, ordered with a cookie topping, was really creamy. The flavor was rich, and I can still taste it in my mouth when I think about it. The cookie was crunchy and good, but I wouldn't say that it stood out to me as much as the soft serve. Since there wasn't a line, service was quick. Unlike a lot of bakeries, this bakery has tables for you to stay and eat your food. TLDR: great ice cream and awesome staff I dropped by to look around the spot after dinner. Most of the baked goods were sold out when I arrived, which I think is a great sign for a bakery. I chatted with the staff for a few minutes about the popular items of the bakery and was about to walk out when I spotted the soft serve menu. Matcha and soy sauce ice cream. The 3 staff members were adamant about how great the soy sauce was and gave me a heaping spoonful as a sample. It was delicious - probably one of my favorite flavors this year. Matcha is a constant flavor but the second rotates between soy sauce, yuzu, ube, and others. I'll definitely come back for the soft serve and to try the baked goods earlier in the day. So happy to have a Takahachi location in Bushwick. I'm familiar with the store from the Tribeca location. This visit I had the beef curry filled pastry and the katsu sando. Both were excellent. Very solid neighborhood bakery with tasty sandwiches and sweet and savory bakery items. The soft serve is very good, especially the black sesame, ube and Okinawa lemon. Divine! The only annoying thing is that they coil the ice cream in a certain way so that what you see isn't what you get. There is usually a gaping hole once you eat the top peak of the ice cream. But that's okay, it is not something you want a huge serving of anyway. The sushi is not the best. The rolls are very tiny and overpriced. There is no date on the package and it does not taste fresh. But they have plenty of other goodies and it is a nice alternative to the many taco trucks nearby. The prices for some of the prepared foods tend to be much higher than the typical Japanese markets around town, but the bakery items are priced well. read more

Takahachi is such a great addition to the area! I usually come to the area every Friday and every Friday I make sure to get a beef curry bun. The bun itself is so soft and pairs so well with the beef curry, it's airy and just melts in your mouth. I also enjoy their rotating soft serve (from what I've seen it rotates between combinations of miso, matcha, ube, yuzu), shortbread cookies, karaage, and many of their other pastries. Had my eye on this place ever since coming back from Japan and having suffering from severe withdrawals. As soon as you walk in, you are immediately presented with a case full of freshly baked pastries and the counter. The workers were very nice and welcoming. I picked out 2 half sandwiches from the fridge - egg salad and fried shrimp curry sauce. The egg salad was sooooooo good. Very creamy and had a good ratio of bread to egg salad. The curry sauce on the shrimp sandwich was yummy too. It was crunchy because of the veggies and tempura but chewy because of the soft bread. I'd have to go back to try their pastries and see if they sell hot food plates of chicken and rice with their curry sauce! read more

Love this new location! It's located conveniently near the Jefferson L stop and a great addition to the area. Everything is well spaced out by station (baked goods, cold sandwiches/food, hot foods, etc.) and there's lots of space to quickly eat. Perfect place for grab and go type food, which is what I feel most cafes need more of. Amazing variety! I want to try everything here. I ended up with a half egg salad sandwich (love that they offer halves here), miso soup, iced honey yuzu tea, and some free bread the miso soup came with. All great and fresh. I love this place. The quality of the food is similar to the bakeries in Japan. I would love to try all their breads. They have good variety and the quality is top notch. I tried these items: - Hot dog bun - Okonomiyaki tuna bun - Beef curry bun - Beef croquette - Spicy Chicken All of them get a 5/5. My favorite is the beef croquette because it comes with a Worcestershire sauce and the meat/potato ratio is great. But all of them would satiate me as a snack or small meal. They didn't have much matcha products compared to the one on Murray st. It looked more like a Chinese bakery now. Got the cherry blossom roll cake, which didn't really taste like anything. A cute little Japanese bakery and cafe in the neighborhood! We sampled a few of their sweet and savory pastries and they were all spot on. The chocolate covered pastry with strawberry filling was fluffy and chewy with a croissant-like texture. The fruit danish was crusty in the best way. Fruits expanded the cooling sweetness in the mouth. The sausage savory pastry was light with just the right amount of umami.
