On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Black Tie Movers conducted my move. While the movers themselves were courteous and professional, my extreme dissatisfaction stems from the significant damage to multiple valuable household items during the move, and the subsequent, completely unacceptable lack of customer service and claims resolution process after the move. The damages include: a chipped bed frame with a missing peg, a broken socket on a standing floor lamp (rendering it unusable), a severed knob on my treadmill (creating a safety hazard), and a punctured bookcase with a missing peg. It's important to note that these items were expertly wrapped by Black Tie Movers' staff, not in customer-packed cartons, which makes any questions about "carton damage" irrelevant to my situation. Following the move, I have made over four persistent attempts to resolve these issues, primarily through my assigned representative, Noah. These attempts have been met with a frustrating pattern of unresponsiveness, contradictory information, and ultimately, a complete failure to initiate or confirm a claims process. Noah initially promised me a call from claims (which never happened). When I tried again, he claimed not to have received my calls. Out of desperation, I then contacted customer service, who immediately sent me back to Noah, stating that claims don't typically make outgoing calls - effectively trapping me in an unhelpful circle. After being redirected, Noah then requested photos on February 9th, promising to file a claim on my behalf. However, since then, there has been no communication, follow-up, or confirmation of any claim being filed. I am expressing extreme frustration and anger over this profound lack of accountability, the disregard for my belongings, and the completely unsatisfactory post-move customer support, especially given the significant cost of the service and the generous tip I provided. Furthermore, I find the online claims process to be a deterrent, with limitations on photo uploads and irrelevant questions about carton damage. I hired Black Tie Movers for a pack-and-move from Cleveland to Columbus, Ohio. What followed was a poorly planned, multi-day move that failed to meet even basic expectations. It was advertised as "Life Is a Highway", but by the end, I was left asking "What Hurts the Most?" and the answer was paying for wasted time, missed commitments, and an incomplete job. Friday: The crew arrived with no packing materials at all, not even tape, despite the order clearly being for a pack-and-move. They spent roughly four hours driving around trying to find supplies, time I was still charged for. Calls to two different managers went unanswered or returned. The agreed schedule was pack and load Friday, deliver Saturday. Instead, packing happened Friday, loading Saturday, and delivery was pushed to Sunday, giving next to no time for unpacking before Monday morning. Both my home and a storage unit were listed on the quote and discussed in advance. On Saturday, I was told they could not get everything from both locations, leaving items behind. I now have to rent my own truck and finish the move myself. To be fair, the movers themselves were young, friendly, and clearly trying their best. However, they were not trained to pack or properly protect items. It was obvious they were sent to move furniture and boxes, not perform a full pack-and-move. This is a management and planning failure, not a crew or attitude issue. This move involved poor preparation, missed commitments, wasted paid time, and an incomplete job. I was very disappointed in my moving experience with Black Tie Moving on April 24, 2026. Things began with deliberation but soon escalated into what seemed to me to be a hurried situation into how fast we can get things done. One of the moving technicians had another job to go to at the conclusion of this move as well. In the process, three (3) boxes of heirloom and irreplaceable antique glassware were broken. Shrink wrap was not removed from items as promised. Tristan explained everything and appeared, to me, anyway, to be disappointed that things were not taken care of in the proper manner. I have moved approximately 20 times in my life and have NEVER had anything broken nor felt like the movers were in a hurry. They charged us a large sum of money to move us and we employed another company 2 years ago and paid less than half of Black Tie's cost and had NOTHING broken. I called Black Tie and relayed all of the disappointing incidents and was paid lip service and told to file claims, which I have done, and as of today, May 8, 2026, I have not received any kind of return communication regarding my claims filing or how this company can "make things right" for us. As I said, it was a very disappointing experience, and I will never recommend this company to any one for relocation help. If there were an ability to rate this company on this page, we would rate them as "zero" stars. read more

If you don't your items ae only insured by the pound per item Yes a 1000$ painting is insured for $1.80!!!!!!! more on that later. On time arrival no 45 minutes late. Wrapped items that might scar the floors or walls-NO. Have gouges in the hard wood floors and paint and plaster knocked off. Cleanly--NO shoe prints on white carpet and dirt on the floors at the new place. Breakage for sure. ruined a dining room chair with arms(broken off_) Stole patio umbrella--Yup it was just plain gone. I had it loading on the security camera and it was never unloaded on the new security camera site. Responsive-slightly they repaired the floor and walls( I furnished the supplies) Never sent claim forms so I could get my 2.40 for the chair. oh my In summary--there are other movers in the area---USE THEM NOT BTM. First off, the positive. The team was good--hard workers, careful, professional. Now the bad...Their sales model is down-right unethical. Their sales team quote you a price for the job, however, it turns out to have ZERO bearing on the actual cost. The old "bait and switch." They end up charging you daily based on a completely different model that ZERO to do with whatever you were quoted. Also, several of the assurances the sales team gave me turned out to be outright lies--again, whatever it takes to get the sale. We recently moved with these guys from TX to TN. I've never seen so much broken stuff in a move. Our mattress was WET because they set it in water and it soaked it up and stained it. Our wardrobe boxes were busted out at the bottom, and racks had fallen out of place. Paintings not wrapped properly, ruined. A neon custom sign (from our wedding) that was packed by one of their craters in a special crate, shattered. Computer screens, shattered. Furniture, filthy. We paid for packing and moving and are horribly disappointed. We didn't get the 4 men they promised us but still charged us for 4. They are not taking responsibility for the stuff they have ruined. Clearly there was gross negligence and lack of care in handling our items. Proceed with caution if you hire this team, we were sold in their promise of excellent service and professionalism, and we received none of that. read more

After moving home, the mover not only broke my lamp, but also damaged the wall. The charge was different from the original price. they charged $150 in the beginning , and today they charged me $598. In less than three hours, And we packed everything ourselves before we were told not to transport plants and cleaning supplies, so why not say so in the first place? a very poor moving experience. Terrible company! Moving is such a stressful event. They made it worse. Damage to our brand new house, feces on the toilet seat after the mover used our bathroom. We had the best crew for our big move. We were downsizing from 6700 to 4200 sf and the team did such a good job at working to get everything to fit for us. They moved fast and lifted super heavy items like granite tables with one guy. We will be using them again in 18 months when we move again into our new house. read more

This was the worst experience I have had with a moving company. A client of the company I worked for used Black Tie Moving to deliver some very expensive cabinets from Italy. I watched the movers take care with the cabinets and moved at a good pace. I figured if they trusted you to move these items we could trust you with our home. The 3 guys that came to move my home were very nice and everything made it to the new house with no damage. Issues with our move... 1. My stairwell was completely beaten up. There were gouges and scuff marks that had to be repaired before I could put my house on the market. I did not notice them until I came back to the house later that week to due a final clean before pictures and listing. 2. My husband's $200 tool kit went "missing." He had it out taking down curtains and deconstructing our bed to make it easier on the guys. It was on the kitchen counter when we left. I walked outside and sat on the porch when they were done loading the truck. Once they were done packing up their moving supplies in a big box I locked up. I noticed when we went back to the house it was no longer on the counter. I waited until we were completely done unpacking before I said anything just to make sure that it didn't get put in a loose box. I called the company and they spoke with the guys and no one had seen it. 3. My biggest issue was the cost. I called to get a quote to move our 3 bedroom house. The receptionist quoted a minimum of $800 up to $2000 for a full day. This was for 2 guys and 1 truck. She said most likely we would fall in the middle since we had a smaller house. I moved the same contents 3 years earlier with a different company for a little over $700. I realize cost of everything as gone up since then so I thought the price quoted was fair. I thought we had made it super easy and efficient for the movers. We had everything in boxes stacked neatly in the dining room closest to the front door. The only thing left in the rooms was furniture. It took quite a bit longer then expected or quoted to move our house. If the guys were not carrying boxes they were on their phones. Walking back from the truck every time they were head down in their phone which I am sure contributed to the extra time. Once the movers were completed I get a call from the office to get payment and she said the cost was nearly $3000!! This was double the "likely" cost I was quoted and over $1000 more then the "max" price I was not prepared for this and was completely shocked. I tried to figure out where the extra cost came from. Come to find out the guys charged an hour and a half for the drive from Plano to Anna which only takes 30 minutes. I had to argue with the receptionist about this because I left at the same time as the truck grabbed lunch and still sat at the house for over an hour before they arrived. They tried to charge me for the guys long lunch break. I got her to credit the extra time they spent on lunch but that did not put a dent into the additional costs I had to pay. I would not recommend this company to ANYBODY. When I asked what could be done with the huge discrepancy in price they said nothing and that I was welcome to leave a google review. Why would a company want me to write a negative review? Well I am doing just that. read more

Be VERY, VERY CAUTIOUS. 7/24/22- Black Tie as with most other moving companies are only liable for .60cent per lb for ANY damages to your property that cause it really isn't priority for the movers to protect your property cause when they damage things you'll only get pennies on the dollar for your items/ example... that $800- 20 pound leather chair that was ripped by your moving crew when stuffed it in the truck, you'll get $12. But that's only if the claims dept ever even calls you back. I can't get anyone to respond. I've gone as far as reaching out to the sales guy that contracted the move/ Noah, still nothing. If you even think this company sounds good. It's horrible! What they didn't steal they broke. They took things out of totes & crammed whatever in it. I am missing so many items, the most priceless thing were my daughter's wedding pictures! Irreplaceable. They were wrapped in bubble wrap & placed in a very tote in a very protected way. The 1st thing I opened was the frame that held a previous picture. The frame was broken & twisted, glass was broken & I still haven't found the picture. They had no regard or respect for my property. I've been taking inventory of broken & things they didn't bring(stole). What they could improve on is everything! I wouldn't get them to move a cardboard box around the corner. I paid them a more than generous tip. When I called the moving guy the next day, he acted so innocent, saying no, we didn't see that, and it was a 2 way call, his boss was on the other line. He didn't say anything, but the caller ID showed his number! That shows he knew exactly what I was talking about. I contacted a lawyer & he said to write down everything they broke bc they unpacked practically every box & tote & crammed other things in them. I'm still going thru things, it's such a disaster. We had a very disappointing experience with Black Tie. First of all, when we called to get a quote, it was conveniently not mentioned that we should expect to pay an additional fee for "packing materials" used to move our items. This ended up costing us around $250 more than the initial quote. The individuals sent to move us were unbelievably careless, resulting in severe damage to our flat screen TV and several other items. We had specifically requested a TV box - and agreed to pay extra for it - to mitigate this risk which the movers conveniently forgot. Instead, they wrapped a $1,000 TV in a blanket and set it on the floor of the truck. Needless to say, both legs of the tv broke, the siding on the bottom was split, and the TV is completely useless now. Further, the individuals were incredibly lazy and slow, often times seen chatting by the truck instead of moving items. This resulting in a two bedroom apartment move taking 4 hours, ridiculous considering the majority of our items were moved out in 45 minutes. It was very apparent that they were "eating time" to try to get more $$ for the job. Furthermore, the team disappeared for an ENTIRE HOUR driving to our new home - what were were told was a quick "stop and grab drinks". For reference it takes about 10 minutes to drive between locations in medium traffic. Once they finally arrived, the entire team reeked of cigarette smoke - a smell that is still present in our new home as a result. All around, not a pleasant experience and not a company we will be recommending to friends and family. read more

My second time using Black Tie was not as GREAT as the previous 5 star move. 3 packers took 7 hours to pack a 2 bedroom apartment at $185/hour plus cost of supplies, and they didn't finish. The second day took 8 hours to load, drive 6 miles and unload at the same rate as before. When unpacking I realize why the packing took so long, 2-3 sheets of paper or heavily bubble wrapped to wrap everything in the apt individually. Way too much packing material causing way too many boxes to drive 6 miles. I felt duped on top of tipping both crews. I will look elsewhere next move. read more

Absolutely extremely professional. Took very good care of our furniture. Were very kind to allow my kids to help take stuff out to the truck, not getting irritated by it. They were on time, and very nice. They worked hard, even though they were one truck down and one person short. That would be the only issue we had, which was asking for two trucks with four people in order to cut down the time spent on the move. But the people that came didn't complain about it. They also were very honest with me about the price before the move, and it didn't change the amount due at the time of payment. I have had issues with moving companies in the past, and I would absolutely use this company again. read more

I've used this moving company for a total of three moves. However, this last move will be the final one. Even though we had fewer items this time, the movers took an hour longer than previous moves and charged us more than before. My boyfriend and I worked hard to move all the little items, leaving only the bigger furniture for the movers. To our surprise, they charged us a lot more this time and took their sweet time since we were their only scheduled move. I used to think that this company was great because they were quick and efficient, but now I will have to keep searching for a better moving company. read more

We had an excellent experience with Black Tie. The movers were all polite and all were comfortable asking me "where does this go?" etc. They took great care of our things, they fit everything including a huge elliptical machine around a tight corner and our fridge which they had to take off the doors to make it work . They worked steadily - and completed the move as quickly as it could be done. The price was higher than a couple others but the reviews and mentions on a local Facebook group made me try them and I am so glad I did. We had a minor issue at the old house - a curtain came down - and it took one email and about 15 minutes to get that fixed/reimbursed, they wanted to make it right. Gallo and Anthony P helped pulled everything out of a storage unit that we needed stuff from. It was a total mess before. We pulled everything out carefully, got what we needed and put everything back in and they even organized it really well and we're very careful not to damage anything and constantly had ease of access in mind. We've used them in the past with decent service but not again after our most recent move. Honestly, save yourself the frustration and headache and take your business elsewhere. Due to the lack of care from the team that moved us, several of our boxes were lost leading to missing kitchen and clothing items. They damaged our walls trying to get a fridge placed. Additionally, they dropped a box of ornaments and several, including some sentimental ornaments. Not worth the money. Will not utilize the service again. read more
