They were tipped well and i bought them multiple gatorades bc it was hot as hell,despite not unwrapping what they'd wrapped and mangling our mailbox leaving the old house which we didn't see until this morning. Driver was definitely not trained or competent driving a truck. He had to have known he hit it. Husband called to file claim and was promptly disconnected. Disappointed as we could have addressed this yesterday when it was hit not realizing on our last day to move. Now have to let buyers know and pay for it. Will be calling again but maybe train the drivers to back up the trucks. read more

I used them 3 years ago at a great rate and they were phenomenal. When I decided to use them again they were WAY more expensive but since they did a great job before I went with it. Unfortunately they've grown exponentially, and with that their customer service has gone out the window. No confirmation the day before, and the day of I'm currently trying to find out where they are almost an HOUR after the latest time they were supposed to be here- with no one able to tell me anything. I'm so disappointed by how far downhill they're previously fantastic service was. read more

The reviews of this company are deceiving. I called this company to request their services for a certain day of the week in a time slot of 1-4pm. Ive moved 3 times in the last 6 years so I knew a rough estimate of how much it should cost and the time it should take. A guy named Kevin answered the phone. He asked what times I was needing and said they were available. He asked for my information and said ok the move is scheduled. I stopped him before he hung up. I asked if he wanted any information such as amount of items (2 sofas-us girls moved them the last time if that gives you an idea of size, a tv, tv stand, bed, dresser and about 50 packed boxes.). I asked how many guys he was sending and he said 2. Most of my moves Ive used 3 guys. This was an 800 sq ft apartment so I wasn't needing a fleet of guys but enough to finish the move in 4 hours. He assured me 2 was plenty. The movers showed up on the day at the designated time, did a walk around and began moving. At this point the move was going on 4 hours. They got down to the last few items so we told them that we were heading to the new apartment to unlock everything and make sure the freight elevator was reserved. 53 minutes later we are still sitting in the new apartment waiting for the guys. They wouldnt answer the phone till we finally called them on a different number. Randy answered right away and gave an excuse about the truck as to why they were late. They had to go less than two miles. I don't quite understand how it took that long to get to us. Once they arrived I told one of them I found it upsetting that he took so long. I was paying by the hour and wanted to move as quickly and efficiently as possible without wasting unnecessary time and money. He got it my face and started raising his voice at me. The other mover grabbed him and managed to calm him. Im a small female. It is unprofessional to get in a clients face in such a manner especially when I in no way attacked you. After that the moving began. At this point I wanted to speed up the process so I began to help them move items. I moved a headboard, mattress, desk and boxes on my own. Overall the entire move took a little over 8 hours. It seems a bit extreme to take 8 hours to move an 800 sq ft apartment less than two miles. None of my other 3 moves have ever taken that long. When it came time to pay we were given a price a little over $1000! Later the guys explained while they were gone for the 53 mins, they were on break. That's $100+/hr of my money for you to go on break. If you want a break let me know but please dont charge me for it! After a little debate the guys said they would wait to speak with the owner then have him contact us on a proper charge amount. We had the guys do a walk around to assess the damage then they went on their way. Upon walk around heres what we found: 1) Sofa was not wrapped and was drug across the ground so one side was black and dirty 2) There was a huge dent in the wall from where they nailed it with the dresser 3) a silver dollar sized chip was taken out of the dresser 4) the suede side panels of the bed were scratched up 5) they took our screwdrivers so we couldn't put the bed back together 6) they lost the legs for the bed 7) they broke the hose for the washer 8) they returned the keys for the old apartment therefore locking us out. The apartment changed the locks and we were unable to get the last bit of our items out of the apartment that night that the guys left behind 9) they left their dolly A few attempts were made at contacting the owner. He responded lightly in a few emails stating that he was out of the country. 4 weeks later there has been no resolution and we were charged for the move. No proof of charges or explanation for them. No one had come out or contacted us about fixing the damaged items either. UPDATE: Recently there was contact with the owner and he tried to pay us off. He said that if I removed my yelp review he would pay $560 but I had to sign a "silencing" contract saying I wouldn't ever post a review about his company and I had 48 hours to respond. Im sorry but you provided a horrible service and rather than fix it you are trying to cover it up. That's not right. He left a voicemail later calling me names; as if that would help the situation. Tips for this business based on our recent move: Arrive at the scheduled time, bring basic tools for moving, don't overbook on holiday weeks, and respond to customer service calls after the move. We were told 8-9am and the moving team arrived at 4:30pm AND they were high, hungry, and overworked. They also didn't have the basic tools needed to take apart furniture (i.e. allen wrench). I only got a 10% discount for all of this unacceptable, unprofessional service and have been trying to get in contact with my operations manager for weeks now with no response. read more

We used Black Tie twice, once to move out of our home into a storage facility and a second time to move out of the storage facility into our new home. The team was on time, very polite, and worked very hard. So, why 1 star you are wondering? Because as life goes there were a few issues with the move, a table was damaged and the team that delivered it could not figure out what the first team had done to take it apart. "No problem" the team lead said. We will make notes on the job and we have a furniture crew that will come out ASAP to fix the issue. Well, a week went by and no one followed up, so I called. "Oh, we can't talk to you about that, you need to email our VP". So I emailed the VP... two weeks ago. I have yet to receive any replies. read more

I just used Black Tie Moving yesterday and was unpleasantly surprised by how LONG and expensive this move was. The longest move of my adult life. I used Black Tie in August 2017 to move from a 2nd floor apartment into a 6th floor apartment (with elevator). I can't remember the exact cost but I want to say it was approximately 3 hours and around $400-$500. When scheduling this move, the guy I spoke with on the phone pulled up the details from my previous move and confirmed if it would be the same stuff. And with the exception of a few things, it was essentially the same stuff in my 1 bedroom apartment with a small den. Yesterday, I moved from that 6th floor apartment (with elevator) into a 1 story house - same items for the most part. It took over SIX HOURS!!! One of the guys (I think his name was David) was very polite, hustled and worked quickly while the other guy (who's name I never got) slow poked around moving one item at a time and disappearing for periods of time. At one point he asked me to hold my headboard up and walk around it with him so he could wrap it in plastic. A few seconds in David came to do it for me because...that's what I'm paying them for. This other guy also came upstairs with snacks after being MIA for a few while. On the clock...and went to get snacks?!?! David also went out of his way to tighten the screws on my sofa legs which was nice. However, they also took things apart that I've never had movers disassemble but I'll chalk that up to trying to protect my items because they wrapped the disassembled pieces. But it took them even more time to put disassembled items back together! At this point I didn't even care, I just wanted them done and out so I could go on with the rest of my day. In total this move cost me 6 hours and over $800...for a one bedroom! Customer service wise, one of two were great. However it took entirely too long and was incredibly slow moving to be charged by the hour. Not happy about it and won't use or recommend you again. read more

The whole experience was an exercise in absurdity. The movers showed up two and half hours late (without masks) due to a "conflict" that occurred at a previous move. I had to call the corporate office to even get this information and prompt action. When the movers did arrive, they were unprofessional and glued to their phones. I was promised a crew that had no relation to the "conflict" and a discount, and Black Tie provided neither. The movers left without putting my bed back together, which they stated they would do, and I had to ask them to put together two other pieces of furniture that they forgot about. Best moving experience I've had to date. This is my 8th time moving, and these guys did an excellent job keeping an eye on my time and and my belongings. Update Though the packing wasn't up to what we expected, the CEO of the company personally reached out to us and followed through on resolution. I cannot stress enough how amazing it is that during this time of COVID and busy schedules, the company's top echelon actually cared enough to make things right. Still think that the people hired to pack stuff need to be trained for the more expensive moves but at least they care about customer service as compared to the thousands of companies out there who couldn't even be bothered to respond back. Kudos to JC and his follow through. Thanks again JC. Absolutely the worst packing and moving experience ever. Used them to load 4 pack rat containers and move one truckload from TX to GA. The packers packed stuff haphazardly and loaded the containers with furniture against metal. The furniture was damaged pretty badly and they are simply not bothered about it. They don't even send the number of people contracted for, instead send lesser number of people on the day of the move. On the last day there was one guy trying to move boxes and furniture from one truck to another to distribute weight and damaged some furniture in the process. One person! Their service has largely gone downhill and I would highly recommend you stay away from them and hire yourself some local guys who know what they are doing and take pride in their job. read more

Moving in the rain is never easy. I have a lot of patience with people but... let me tell you my experience with Black Tie movers. First of all the driver did not know how to back up a gooseneck trailer into my driveway. I explained to the driver if he would come down the street at a different angle he could back right in. (A box truck was confirmed) I was prepared for the move and the 3 man crew got my three bedroom house loaded in just under 2 hours, in the rain no less. I got a call from the driver saying they were having trouble with their truck and could only go 35pmh. It took about 2 hours for them to arrive at my new place. Once at my street their truck had had enough and broke down in the middle of the road , about 200 yards from my home. The guys did the best they could to move my cherished belongings uphill over 200 yards to my home. Getting nowhere with the upper management I took control and used my own truck to move the heavier furniture pieces. Not only to help out the guys but to save my furniture from damage. I would recommend these individual movers but not Black Tie movers as a company. They are not a luxury moving company as they advertise. Me moving my own things and still getting charged is not luxury. read more

Moved from one high rise to another high rise in downtown Dallas. I moved from a two bedroom to another two bedroom trust me when I say I have a lot of stuff. My team consisted of three men who were all very professional and respected my belongings and the building rules. They were very careful, and completed my move quickly and efficiently. First, this was a large job. But while I described everything to their planning agent, they didn't send enough trucks or people. They didn't have the floor covering I was promised and didn't cover the stairs as they said. And, they didn't wear masks. They were polite and nice people. And while they did saran wrap and use blankets on the furniture, after taking off that wrapping of a white couch, they got 4 fairly large black fingerprints on it. Then, in the end, they were so tired, they brought stuff in a dropped it anywhere without even taking off the wrapping. Some of it was just in the garage and some in the wrong rooms and all of it too heavy for me to move. So I had to hire other movers to move the stuff that was left in the wrong place. I responded to their email with the complaint but, even after a week, no one got back to me. I texted the foreman of the job who responded until I voiced my complaint, and then, nothing. They moved a lot of stuff and I appreciate that. But they also charged me a lot more than other smaller firms have. So I expected a near-perfect job, which this wasn't. read more

We have used Black Tie Moving twice now and let me say the first time was great. Overall, the staff that was handling our move directly have been phenomenal. They are wonderful and are very good at taking care to move your items which we appreciate. The reason for this poor, 1-star review is due to the communication of the scheduling and customer service department. We booked our move a few months in advance and they called us a day before our move and said they would have to change our start time from early to mid morning. We understood that this happens and we're ok with it and they promised a 5% discount for the inconvenience. Day of the move was great, but the discount was not applied. I called office the following week and was not met with much help. Finally, I was able to get into contact with a customer service rep who told me my refund was going to be mailed. This process of me calling and getting a "it's in the mail response" went on every 2 weeks for TWO MONTHS. Finally, I call and leave a voicemail to speak to someone regarding the delay. I was called back by a customer service rep who was VERY RUDE and insinuated that I never had a move with them and didn't apologize for the delay once. She seemed put off that she even had to return my call. She RUINED the company for us and we will never ever use them again due to her rude response and the overall delay in getting us our discount which is unfortunate because we love the actual movers. read more

Terrible experience second time around with this company. All boxes were packed and staged outside of my apartment ready to go. However, it took the movers 3 hours to load up the truck. But only an hour and 15 minutes to unload. This was directly due to multiple breaks and a lack of urgency. The movers took their time on purpose in order to make more money. Nickel and dime you..charge extra to tape up a box ( about the cost of a couple rolls of tape for each box they tape) - Charge to shrink wrap - gas surcharge I used them because my usual moving company couldn't do the job on such short notice. But these fees are crazy. Pricing for Einstein, who usually moves me is much more transparent. No extra fees, just straight up hourly rate. Both guys moved my stuff really quickly and carefully, and they were pretty cool guys to chat with during those awkward moving moments. Everything was completely safe. i have a one bedroom apartment. I moved to another one bedroom place on the 3rd floor with no elevator. I have several pieces of heavy furniture also. I explained this all to the person who set up the move. also was going to go to my storage and move that stuff to the garage I rent. it took 15 hours. they sent a 2 man team. I never got to pick up the things in storage because it took so long. after they had filled the truck they called because the new address was not on the paperwork. they also had on there I was moving to a first floor apartment. I was definitely over charged for this move. internet says the average time to move a one bedroom is 3-6 hours. 15 hours later. the movers worked from 9:30 am to 12:45 am. They also didn't wrap one my best bedside tables well and it got big scratches in it. they never came over to give an estimate they just guessed. worst move ever. Never recommend them or use them again. you Sent 2 men to do at least a 3 man job I let the scheduler know all this the amount of furniture etc the floor and no elevators . none of the addresses were on the worksheets so they had to call to get the new address. did they list the number of boxes they packed. i would like to know how many they thanked they packed Because I had a limited number and I was packing some too. read more

Based on decent yelp reviews and a good BBB rating, we hired Black Tie for to pack our stuff and move us across town. The moving part was mostly fine; nothing was broken and the movers worked efficiently. The packing, however, was less than stellar. The stuff that was actually packed was fine, but for some reason half of our kitchen and one entire bathroom weren't packed up at all. Understandable if we'd had an excess of stuff and they couldn't get to it all in a day, but the packing crew kept commenting that we barely had any stuff and left our place at 3:30pm. And there was zero communication from the crew about the not-packed areas; we didn't discover them until we were doing a walkthrough after they had already moved everything out, which meant we had to scramble to find boxes and packing materials in a mostly empty condo and then move it all ourselves. None of this would have been *that* big of a deal if it weren't for the unresponsiveness from Black Tie's customer service department when I called to complain. After an initial email from them saying they would follow up, nothing happened. My subsequent calls and emails were never returned. I have to wonder how/when/whether they respond at all when people have broken or missing items. read more

The entire experience was absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend a better company for moving. Ben made the booking process so easy, explaining every detail so that there would be no surprises and getting me scheduled much more quickly than I thought possible. When Mario and his crew arrived they worked quickly and carefully to finish packing my house. The group clearly has worked together a long time and it was fun to be around them as they moved through it all. I was even able to work while they did everything. My realtor wanted me to leave some things in place for staging and they followed all my complicated instructions perfectly. They also put down materials to protect my floors and wrapped things carefully to protect anything from damage. I was originally scheduled for two days (one pack, one move) but the crew was so fast we were able to pack and move on the same day even with having to also pick things up from storage. When placing things in the new home they made sure things ended up where I needed them, and even waited for me to run and get a different dryer plug so they could finish setting that up. The whole crew was so polite, nice, and fun the entire time and I really enjoyed working with them. They are indifferent from others but with higher rates. And we were overcharged for their mistakes?! We called to make the appointment and even confirmed with the manager one day before the moving. The appointment was supposed by 8-9 but movers arrived at 10:40 am. One guy broke a leg of my dinning table and the leading guy insisted going shopping with my husband for the parts to fix the table. Of course the moving was slowing down since one guy left the house and we were charged by longer hours. I really don't think they should charge us for his shopping time! Some of my furniture surfaces have been damaged/scratched, including the buffet and dresser. As i mentioned before, one of my dinning table leg was broken and they kinda fixed it.
