This is a very cute roadside cafe! I stopped here on the way to Kiawah Island and I'm so glad that I did. It is both a market and kitchen. So they have produce and different foods that you can buy. I went for lunch and tried the salmon tacos and the fish sandwich. Both were delicious but the fish sandwich is truly one of the best fish sandwiches I've had! For service you order at the register and then food can be brought to you at tables outside. This is overall a super cute stop with great food! This is so crazy. I don't know what I just walked into. But this is beauty. They have everything in such a small space. Freshly butchered meat, , seafood, prefixed meals, wines, bear tap, dessert bar, grocery store, man you don't have enough time. Lol. Whoever thought of this is genius. You know who brought me here... I ordered a few desserts and a fried oyster dinner. I also ordered the potato salad and what they call vinegar coleslaw. They're a bit pricey but you only live once. My food came rather fast. I have to be honest here... These might be the best fried oysters I ever had. Definitely top three. Mind blowing!! This vinegar coleslaw is pretty different. It's definitely vinegary and peppery but there's a sweetness at the very end. I can eat this all day. Potato salad was pretty good it definitely served purpose. Homemade cocktail sauce, and homemade tartar sauce are so good. I was supposed to save these fried oysters for dinner but I just don't think they're going to make it. Lol. I am definitely coming back. They have items on the menu that are there every day and sometimes they have other things for that day. They also have a nice seating area outside if you want to eat in beautiful weather. It all makes sense when you think about it. John's Island still has that small town and this has the small-time market field. And they've created a One-Stop shop great food. Everything is so prime. The steaks look like they were carved out of the cow this morning. They look way better than grocery store steaks. I'm definitely going to come back and get a few prefix meals. My great aunts assisted living is down the road from here so I've been driving by a lot. I always look out for places to eat when I'm on this side of town and Blackbird was high on my list. One day we stopped in for a late lunch and we're so glad we did. Because it was later in the day, the special I wanted was already gone... understandable. I don't normally choose a salad for a meal, but the pesto grilled shrimp sounded so good that I ended up getting the caesar with shrimp. My friend also got a salad but opted for the Greek with herb crusted chicken. We looked around at the produce, groceries, homemade frozen meals, soups, and tomato pies before making our way outside to grab a table. If I recall correctly, there were no tables inside, but the outdoor tables are covered. They brought out our salads and the boxes had a real weight to them. At first I balked at the $15 a piece salads from a roadside market, but when we opened them up we saw they were more than worth it. Even with the caesar being mostly lettuce it was huge and packed with pesto shrimp. My friend took hers home after eating and still made two more salads out of it to take for lunch. We've been talking about these salads for weeks now (and salads aren't something I usually rave about) and can't wait to go back. read more

Blackbird market is just what I expected - a selection of fresh, local meats, produce, and goods. Staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Turkey wrap, which was incredible. The side vinegar slaw was lacking salt and tasted too sour. My mom had the pot roast sandwich special, which she said also lacked salt and flavor. The tomato and cucumber salad was soggy and not enjoyable. I am hopeful that we just ordered the wrong sides and will be back to try Blackbird again! read more

They screwed up multiple items on our to go order and I still want to give them five stars. (we ordered collard greens & got Mac n cheese) That's how amazing the food is! We had some of the she cans of women's supported wineries and local Beers. We had the chocolate and banana pudding to go. We had an entire tomato pie at home. We brought home the bourbon salmon from Canada. While there we had some grilled cheeses with bacon and ham and the tomato salad sides and mac & cheese. What didn't we have?!? My husband and I stopped by Blackbird Market in between the Charleston Tea Farm and Angel Tree and was happy to find Blackbird Market. It's a quaint little market that sells fresh groceries, from vegetables to seafood. They also have sandwiches and other dishes available to order, as well as a display of delicious desserts! We shared the fried grouper sandwich, and it was so delicious that I could have eaten the whole thing! The fish was perfectly fried and very meaty. My friends and I stopped in and found that the market also did sandwiches, daily meal specials and prepared soups,dips, deserts. The staff were pleasant and helped us with ordering. We purchased sandwiches (pulled pork, prime rib dip cheesesteak sandwich, salmon dip and clam chowder. I order takeout from Blackbird at least once every two weeks. Their daily menu includes something tasty for nearly everyone. My go to on Wednesday evenings is the Chicken Parmesan special or their Cuban sandwich. My wife frequently likes the Chicken Gyro sandwich. I can also highly recommend their trout plate when it is on the menu. It should be noted that everything on the menu is not available every day so the daily menu must be checked on-line or in person before ordering. Don't forget to check their desert display if you think you may need something sweet. This is NOT a fast food restaurant. It is a great little market that prepares delicious food and is very convenient for folks on Johns Island and on their way to or from Kiawah. Food is made to order so after ordering you may have to wait awhile for your food to be ready but it is well worth the wait. read more

I drove by and saw their sign advertising a fried chicken special all day. This is the kind of place that you never know what they're serving each day, it's not a fixed menu every day. I ordered the half bird, with two sides - Mac n cheese, and black eye peas and rice. The chicken was frigging AWESOME! Flavorful, cooked thru, and double dipped coating so extra crunchy. The peas and rice were also very good, well seasoned and tasty. The mac n cheese however... It looked great, as it was baked, not made in a pot. First bite I could taste a strange spice. My wife confirmed it was horseradish. Not sure why they decided to add horseradish to their Mac n cheese, but it just doesn't work for me. Not good. Overall, a four. I won't order the Mac n cheese again. read more

Blackbird Market can be hit-or-miss. If you're ordering takeout, check out their Google Doc menu and order early. They tend to sell out of daily specials and sometimes also sell out of regular menu items before dinner. Fried food (shrimp, chicken, etc.) is always excellent, but some of the sides are inconsistent. Pricing is a bit high when not all food is locally-sourced. I have not been very impressed with the hibachi special or prime rib specials. More often that not, the employees working the phone for pickup orders are not respectful. read more

I have such a hard time not grabbing any of their fresh produce or homemade products. It's so cute inside and has the perfect local market charm. The menu changes daily so make sure to check their Facebook page before you go, and even then it's only as supplies last! Such a hidden gem deep onto Johns Island, Blackbird is so good for some fried seafood and amazing sides, everything is so fresh, side salad is almost the star of the show because of how fresh and their produce is. The only knock I can give it is that all of the food is packaged in to go boxes and fried food tends to get a little soggy and not as crispy as intended, though still very good, I wish there was a way to get it to stay fresh and crispy! I've been trying to support local now more than ever and today I finally got a chance to check it out as I wanted to get a few groceries and I was not disappointed! All of the employees were clearly taking COVID seriously with their masks and handling of all the food and other items. Everyone was so extremely friendly and each person greeted me! I was impressed not only by their vegetable selection, but so many of their other local goods as well like their pastas from another local business along with their soups and cheeses. I ended up picking up the salmon dip which is so so good! I'm now kicking myself for not coming out sooner to check this place out and although I was there before lunchtime, I plan to return as soon as I can as all the food sounded and looked so good!
