Overall: A delicious yet expensive lunch. The good: The sandwiches were absolutely delicious. The focaccia bread might as well have been from Italy. The sandwich was Thanksgiving-themed, with cranberry, turkey, stuffing, dressing, and more. It definitely hit the spot and I felt full afterwards. It's nice to be able to sit outside with the tables and enjoy the neighborhood. The not-so-good: Expensive. The sandwiches were great, but charging for as much as they did is a bit much. The food tastes good but not extraordinary and none of it is made of difficult-to-source ingredients that would explain this. Maybe their rent is high? The food was good, but our order had a few issues. Only 2 of 3 sides were correct, and the lids didn't fit properly, possibly due to the oil, making the bag messy. The bread I requested wasn't used, and even though we ordered and paid online, we had to wait in the same line as in-person orders, even though another window could have been open. A window on the sidewalk with a tip jar and all menus on the wall with a few tables under the oak tree. So when I see a Menu without prices I know it is going to be pricey why are more and more places don't give you a receipt and I mean an itemized receipt that will show me how much was each item. I figured each Turkey and Swiss sandwich is about 13.50 it came with a small cup of "broccoli coleslaw" but I didn't see any broccoli, they may have given me something else that had noodles, carrots, sliced almonds and sunflower seeds and it was delicious. Came here for a late lunch. Cute place but no inside access. You order from the outside window and they bring you your food in a paper bag. There are a few outdoor tables across the street as well as in front of the place. I had a buckeye, half a goose sandwich (roast beef and mozzarella) and a small piece of quiche. My sandwich had very little taste, I think they forgot to season the meat and everything on it. The meat was very rare and tender which was good, it just needed seasoning. I've never met a buckeye I didn't love! The quiche was ok, nothing special. The portion sizes were ridiculously small but the quality of ingredients were present, hence the four stars. My husband had a prosciutto caprese sandwich which was to die for! I'm not even a fan of prosciutto but I would go back just for this sandwich. It was on the small side like everything else. Very good sandwich. Cool little restaurant in an even cooler village setting. Take-out window service, which doesn't bother me, though I was surprised that there was no place to sit indoors. I ordered "The Goose." Buttery tender, rare roast beef with basil, tomato, fresh mozzarella with balsamic vinaigrette on focaccia. A little small for me but very delicious. I also wanted to try the BLT which was a bit run of the mill. It was just ok. For $12.50 you can do better. The potato dill salad was very fresh and tasty and the Sweetea was very good. Especially with a little Fire Fly mint tea vodka . I love huge overstuffed sandwiches and that's my issue. For the normal human appetite the sandwich would be plenty. Had a Turkey Parmesan, the Sandwich was very good, however no price menu, $3.50 for a tiny bag of chips, $3:00 for a water down coke. $31 for a sandwich, bag of chips, two cokes, plus 10% tip. Beware, ask what comes with the sandwich, and don't order anything without fully knowing the price. Sometimes you just want lunch, but other times, you want amazing lunch. If you're downtown, you have gourmet sandwiches and such practically being thrown at you. In Mt Pleasant, the options are somewhat limited and Square Onion really nails it! I often forget that there's restaurants and such in I'on and not just row after row of million dollar homes. I went ahead and bookmarked this place a while ago to remind me to check it out... so glad I did. I'll definitely be back because I wanted to order everything, but I settled on The Goose. I'm usually skeptical about ordering roast beef out and about because of the quality, but when I asked about it, they began telling me how tender the roast beef was and that it's done completely in house... Sold! The sandwich had a thick layer of rare roast beef with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, and balsamic vinaigrette on a lightly toasted rosemary focaccia bread. I was tempted to go with a half sandwich/half soup, but I knew I wanted the whole Goose. Plus, the sides looked too phenomenal not to try. I went with the potato salad and it was excellent with a good southern mustard flavor in there to boot. I was planning a mid-day coffee from Collective as a post lunch treat, then I saw the dessert case. That plan went out the window and a new dessert plan entered the scene. Almost every time I get desert I can't stray from whatever the chocolate option is, but I had a taste of the Lemon Daffodil that gave me the strength to do so. It was so simple yet I've never had anything like it before (probably cause I always order chocolate). It's basically crumbled up angel food cake mixed with lemon pudding and whipped cream. Come to think of it, you could definitely add chocolate into the mix on that Lemon Daffodil. For less than five bucks, it was a casserole size portion that I defeatedlly took home for later. They could easily make the desserts half the size. They have seating outside in the beautiful I'on community square and a handful of inside tables as well. It's very cozy inside, but we were the only ones there so it wasn't cramped. you can tell they put every effort into the food and all of the staff seemed genuinely excited about it. First and last time going here. Also, $8 for kids meals?? The tenders look like they came from a concession stand. Order at the counter from the owners, take a seat in their super casual dining area or peruse their nicely curated wine bottle selection, their dips, casseroles to go, desserts, pick up the paper and prepare to wipe your plate clean. Go for the Sassafras, the Meredith or their special of the day and you won't be sorry. Ditto for their quiches and salads. My favorite is the Pick Two deal which gives you the best of both worlds, where you can have a half and half combo of whatever sammie, salad, quiche, soup you desire. They offer lovely side dishes (orzo salad, grilled veggies,etc) and private catering. I attended a bridal luncheon that featured their home-y grub. There, I proceeded to house (not very ladylike, I know) their mini ham biscuits along with chicken salad and pimento cheese (separate, not together) finger sandwiches (who knew pimento cheese was so good?) It didn't seemed that busy. But by the time my friend arrived to meet me and we were ready to order it got packed We waited for more than 30 minutes and saw people coming out who had take away orders who came after us. Normally i don't complain much about a wait if the food is amazing but when i asked the girl at the counter how long it would take, she almost bit my nose off stating that it was busy when we entered rather than just asking the cook when it would be done Any way, we got our sandwiches. I stopped in on a Friday with a coworker to meet over lunch and we were met by a knowledgeable staff that helped us navigate the menu. Upon recommendation from our server, I went with the Goose which is a roast beef sandwich with mozzarella and balsamic vinaigrette. The balsamic soaks into the rosemary focaccia that it is served on and the thick mozzarella chunks are fresh and tasty. The house roast beef is prepared with fresh basil. Square Onion is by far my favorite place to get a sandwich in the Charleston area. Their pricing is really fair, especially because all of their food is fresh, unprocessed, and made in house. The Whitney (Rustic roll, cucumbers, tomatoes, hummus, oregano oil dressed greens) is, by far, the very best vegan sandwich I've ever had, as their hummus is out of this world. During Fall/Winter, the butternut squash soup is ridiculous, too. The other thing I really love about Square Onion is that the owners/chefs are in the store every day.
