They were advertising wine slushies for sale (small size or large), and there was nothing that seemed less appetizing. I wish they promoted some sort of hot, mulled drink to get customers excited for the holiday season. We ordered our wine tastings at the front counter, and we carried them to the back room that had wrought-iron tables and chairs in a round, window-filled room. It was very drafty and cold. We got a small package of Milano cookies with our tasting, which seems like an odd pairing. One has to travel outside to the bathroom, which isn't all that convenient in the colder months. I am a red wine drinker, and several of the wines were tasty. I felt as if my wine tasting experience wasn't very personal - we weren't checked on much during our stay. There was a nice 30 percent off discount 3 or more bottles, which we took advantage of. What did surprise me was they did not offer us a box upon paying for our wines. When you buy 3 or more wines from a vineyard/tasting room, that is standard courtesy!

I might not drink this straight, but I could think of many ways to blend that beautiful honey flavor into drinks. Then we tried the mead blended into fruit wine. The very clear taste of the fruit was beautiful with the honey notes and you knew it wasn't just a juice drink..the alcohol was there as well. The ciders were a nice surprise taste wise. I'm not a big cider fan, but when I tasted the gold medal winning Strawberry and crisp apple cider it was a win for me. The single fruit choices of all these were selections were wonderful.... sometimes the blending of different fruits leaves to confused tastes for me. We did some more tastings after- loved the ice wine and the chardonnay (Waterfall)! Waterfall was perhaps my favorite wine (I'm partial to white wines). It was so unique! Come support the smaller wineries!!! They are much more in touch with their grapes and the whole process from start to finish. It was really interesting that they just decided to make a random icewine one year- which is likely something that would not have happened on a larger winery. Turns out it was their first day open for the 2026 season and they had a tasting spot open for their first tasting, so we got lucky on both accounts. Tastings are offered "on the hour" in the afternoons during business hours and I highly recommend making a reservation. This is the type of tasting where you sit, savor, and listen to the presentations on each wine. No rushing customers through, no large groups, and the employees do a great job of connecting with their customers. Shalestone is a small family run boutique style winery that only does red wine. The wine and the atmosphere reminds me of our favorite boutique winery in the Napa Valley. I believe we tasted 7 wines, all of which had their own specific profile and nuances. Too often at other wineries the reds all taste the same, but not at Shalestone. While we purchased a variety of their wines, our favorite is their Syrah! Absolutely delicious with all characteristics one would want in this full bodied red. I highly recommend making a visit to Shalestone when in the Finger Lakes if you want to enjoy mouth watering red wines.

We were able to taste the red legend and even purchased two additional bottles for home. If I could give a split ratings it would be four stars for wine. 3 for service.
