UHHHHHHMAZZZZZZZZING! Awesome Museum! One of the best Museums I have ever been too! I am going to keep this shortish and sweet. Spirit of the Old West on the 3rd floor, relearned alot. Great things to look at from back in the day and models of artifacts and battles. Art of Africa, fascinating to learn more about African culture and music instruments. Into China, Awesome to see a huge model of the Forbidden City, information about Buddhism and Confucianism. Also had Zodiac information and details about that. Also had Terracotta Army soldiers. You can not touch, but can get pretty close to them. World Of Nature was insane!!! Had almost every animal that looked lifelike. They are stuffed real looking animals. Such a cool area to see. So much details! Lastly, the Auto Gallery was filled with cars from 1800s-present day. A big hall filled with all sorts of different historical cars. Rolls Royce, Stangs, Ferraris, You Name it! Had 2 or 3 bathrooms. Plenty for the size of the museum. It looks small, but actually is pretty big. Spent 2.5 hours looking at everything and could have spent more. In the World of Nature next to the bathroom, they had water cups on the water fountain which I personally though was very cool. For Covid vibes, I feel more comfortable putting water in the cup instead of putting my mouth near the fountain. Considerate! Highly Recommend! You wont be disappointed. Went back to Blackhawk Museum because hubby now loves cars, he didn't care much about them years ago so he kinda missed out. The museum had more cars back when I went 12yrs ago. Found out later that cars that used to be there, I think the 20 not the museums, were returned to their owners. So only about 30 cars are in the museum for $15! I doesn't take long to see the few cars they have on the main 1st floor. There are signs for many of the cars, who wants to read about all of them? Other end of the 1st floor is Art of Africa - a bunch of sculptures, artwork, African clothes, masks, musical instruments. 2nd floor - Western stuff from a collector like Roy Rogers things, hat, some cowboy items, ride Sandy coin machine only to look at. 3rd Floor - The Wild West - Western history, Donner Party, Calif Missions, meh. If you want to see more cars they recommended Petersen's Automotive Museum in Los Angeles they told him (we haven't been). I've been to the National Automobile Museum in Reno, NV - that's pretty good & huge. read more

Sunday, 11/15/2020 - This area is BEAUTIFUL. There was plenty of parking here. This museum is super clean. My thoughts? Pros: 1) super clean museum. 2) guy at front door entrance was nice. Gave us a quick information re the museum and where the rooms are at. 3) the auto room is beautiful!!!! The other rooms are just as beautiful and I love all the wonderful art works and sculptures. 4) love how everything flows together in the animal room. It's amazing. Look above too. ;) 5) there is 3 floors of amazing arts and sculptures. 6) bathroom is super clean. 7) only $15 per person to see this beautiful museum. It's a hidden gem. Cons: Absolutely no cons. This place was wonderful! Conclusion: Come early! This way you have more time to really look and enjoy all the artistic art works and sculptures. After, you can enjoy the surrounding stores and/or grab a bite and drink. read more

The museum was AMAZING! The cars and Old West exhibits were still good, but the beautiful art of Africa was wonderful. Then we entered the China and the World of Nature exhibits. I was even charged by a very lifelike animatronic rhino! Everything was breathtaking! What a hidden gem! read more

A very nice, classy venue to hold a meeting, but the staff makes zero effort to be invisible. During each speaker, the staff was moving tables and chairs and the portable bar, thus, making all sorts of noise. It was a huge distraction! The doors are not soft-closing either, so one has to make it a point to close the doors gently. The guests made an effort, but the staff did not. The food was delicious; however, it is unknown whether it was catered or prepared on-site. Therefore, it was not included in this rating. read more

Did a Fathers Day event. It was wonderful seeing everyone and enjoying great food and all the amazing exhibits.

Came here for the new exhibit, Into China. It was spectacular. Enjoyed learning about the 52 (or was it 56?) ethnic groups in China. Some of the exhibit rooms were too dark and could use more lighting, i.e. tomb bells exhibit. Spent at least 2 hours here visiting the other exhibits, such as the ever popular auto gallery with sparkling classic cars, art of Africa, and Spirit of the Old West. Came on a week day, so we were able to pace ourselves with each exhibit and take photos leisurely without crowds. Plentiful parking in the plaza. Fabulous waterfall and river with ducks and geese to the entrance of the museum. read more

This is one of the nicest museums I've been to! Lots and lots of cars, and quite a bit of natural history stuff too! I came with my (just-turned) 3-year-old, and he wasn't that into it, but I wish I could have stayed longer to actually have time to read and browse. I will come back, most definitely. But keep in mind that small children might not have the patience for being here. read more

Really nice venue. We had a huge company party probably about 200 or so people. Staff did a great job getting all the food out in a timely manner and not trying to interfere when people were presenting. I didn't have a chance to look all the way around but the space where the venue was held was beautiful. They floor was in the front of the stage and all the vintage cars in the back to take pictures with. We held a great Gasby theme and it was perfect to take pictures next to the cars. Very memorable and enjoyable event. read more

With the knowledge that the Museum closed at 5:00 we arrived a few minutes after 4:00, knowing that the two young people we had with us most likely would only want to view the cars on display for about an hour or less. We were turned away at the door because it was 4:10.... For what reason you may ask? The woman explained 50 minutes is not enough time to view the collection and we may demand our money back......hu? When we said we would not do that and we had driven quite some way to see the collection she said it was their policy and went on to explain how many people she had already turned away in the last few minutes- even people from other countries...strange flex, but ok. The whole thing was bizarre and frustrating. If we want to pay to see the exhibit knowing that we may only see a portion what difference does that make to them? DON'T POST YOU ARE OPEN UNTIL 5:00 and then refuse to allow anyone in after 4:00- zero people would assume that there is such an asinine policy in place. Most restaurants even seat people up until their posted close time. The most annoying part was how absolutely smug the woman was explaining how many people she has to turn away daily. Ummmm......people spend a lot of time driving to the museum and the weird policy they have crafted is not something cool it's just lame and smacks of elitism. I've been to a lot of museums around the world and have yet to come across such a ridiculous policy. read more

We attended a late holiday party at Blackhawk Museum. We've never been there, so we didn't know what to expect. The exhibits were excellent. And the vintage cars were beautiful and pristine. Our company provided an open bar and appetizers. We had time to peruse the exhibits before the doors to the banquet room opened. Everything was exquisite! The food was delicious - the banquet included salad, main dish, dessert, and your choice of white wine and red. The service was exceptional. The Blackhawk Museum is a great venue for company parties and events. I was pleasantly surprised. read more

The Blackhawk Museum definitely earns five stars. We did a multi generational visit and everyone enjoyed themselves. The Museum is located in a large mall like area near Danville. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and parking wasn't a problem. The museum itself is comprised of five sets of exhibits each housed in its own space. The automobile exhibits is not to be missed. There is an array of luxury cars which is amazing. Dussenbergs and Cords from the 1920s and '30s, Modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces and many, many others. All are pristine and shiny. A fabulous collection. There is also a collection of stuffed animals which is great. The graphics associated with the various dioramas in this exhibition provide a plethora of information about the animals on display. This was a favorite of the children in our group. There are also exhibits of African Art, Chinese Art and memorabilia from the American West. I thought the Western exhibit wasn't up to the quality of the other four. All in all we had a great visit. read more

A MAGNIFICENT collection of American history, amazing artifacts, the most beautiful artwork and friendly employees to make you feel welcome who offer maps and guidance upon arrival. The Blackhawk Museum is absolutely worth a visit, and the $15 fee was more than reasonable for an afternoon of entertainment and "reeducation" as Brian Y. put it. There are muliple levels, making it easier to enjoy the museum, without following the crowd you arrived with. You can literally spend hours wandering through each section, and still not see everything. The automobile collection was beautifully displayed with lighting that showcased every vehicle. I found the American History section extensive and fascinating. The World of Nature was colorful, interactive and super lifelike. The Rhinoceros actually charges the guests, but quickly retreats! If you want lunch, there are several to choose from in the immediate area. You can ask to stamp your hand, if you want to come back before closing. read more

The Blackhawk Auto Museum is a museum with plenty of classic cars of course, and you'll probably like it more if you're a car buff. I myself am a James Bond fan, so I do like looking at classic and modern luxury cars. They also have some Natural History exhibits on the upper floors. Where this museum really shines I think is for Company parties, weddings and private parties, and even seminars that easily accommodate 400 people. Just being surrounded by all those classic cars is really cool. The lighting, background stage and coloring, sound systems, and multiple screens really work out here - easily fitting 30+ round tables of 10 people each. I came here for a diversity/career development/networking event sponsored by Network of Executive Women (NEW). The catering and services at the museum were top notch. It was also very considerate of them to temporarily convert the downstairs men's restrooms since their were probably over 300 women and maybe a handful of men attendees. read more

Three Magnificent floors of displays with a bottom floor store and themed events. Pro Tip - Book a Docent guided tour (on Saturdays) and get all the fascinating behind the scenes info on the fabulous collection. Musts - Ferrari collection, Bugatti collection, wooden car, first car, China Ambassador car, etc. Also, catch the special event collections as Corvettes, Trains, and Western History will display for a limited time. Fancy cars are no longer for the rich and famous because you can enjoy seeing them here, up close and personal, at the Blackhawk Automotive Museum. I was there for an award dinner for work. It was cool to sit, dine, and be surrounded by beautiful cars. The lighting really makes them all come alive. I'm a big muscle car buff, particularly a FORD dude! They had a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang with a Pony interior that made me drool like a doggy staring at his bone! Hahaha. They also had early models there too including some classic Rolls Royce. I was told they provide a guided tour where you can get a detailed experience about their fancy cars displayed. If you like classic or muscle cars, this is a cool place to hangout and check them out. I would definitely come back here just to oooh and ahhh and drool over some of their collections. Hey, I'm entitled to dream right? LOL But hey you never know... when the right time comes, I might search Ebay for my very own muscle car ground up restoration project! Until then, Cheers! ~ :p read more

We went for the cars, but fell in love with the Spirit of the Old West. First the cars... they were beautiful and pristine. The information plaque for each was interesting and informative. Some cars were stunning works of art. The cars alone were worth the price of admission. The African art is in a small area. The carvings and masks were the highlights. I didn't take time to read much of the information. As a result, I didn't leave knowing any more than when I walked in. Upstairs there was another small area focused on cowboy life as depicted by toys from the 50s and pictures and clothes from some of the more famous movie cowboys. Not terribly exciting. Up the stairs one more time to get to the Spirit of the Old West. The room is huge and it tells a story. I got sucked in and read my way around the room. I learned a lot about the wild west - clothes, guns, family life, traveling across the county. I learned even more about the Indians. We spent a lot of time in this room. I left with a lot more knowledge than when I entered. Taking time to visit Blackhawk Museum is time well spent. Visit, learn, enjoy. read more

Dad and I came here for the Father's Day brunch. It was pricy, but worth it. I love doing something special, new, and exciting for Father's Day. This was just the place. Brunch was set up on the far right of the museum. There was something for everyone. All you can drink OJ, prime rib, king crab legs, blintzes, giant shrimp, egg/omelet station, desserts, ect. We ate all we could and when we couldn't eat any more we sat and chatted at our private table and ate a little more before going over to the car show. It was over 100 outside and we blissfully enjoyed the AC. There was the coolest car show outside, but it was too hot to stay long. There were 2 other shows going on, but we ran out of time. We'll be back. I loved the scavenger hunt they had set up for the kids. It really made you look at the cars in detail. This is one place I'd like to come back to. Especially since the car show changes all of the time. That was exciting to hear. read more

If you're looking for a great museum in a safe area with easy parking and plenty of restaurants nearby, consider the Blackhawk Museum. It's a little out of the way but that's a bonus if you like a little drive out of the Immediate Bay Area. The NOR-cal Shelby American club used to meet there, that's how I was aware of it. So I went for the top notch car collection. I was hoping to see a few more Muscle Cars, but my family and I were very interested in the other diverse historical, cultural, and fauna exhibits. They have an excellent old West and Indian exhibit, which I found thought provoking in its commemoration of their struggles, animals of North America , and a Africa and China exhibit ( with many historical anecdotes I found interesting like the circumstances in which the early Qin Dynasty emperor died) sure to round out your experience. Before or after you can get a quick burger and shake at Beeps Just down the steps from the museum. read more

I have visited Blackhawk Museum in the past, may be a few years back. It was just the Car Museum we explored that time. It was a great experience. Now there's more to it. Like their tagline - "Many Worlds. One Museum", they have expanded into five galleries - The Classic Car Collection, The Spirit of the Old West, Into China, Art of Africa, and World of Nature. We were there primarily for the Car Museum. Tbh we didn't know about the expansion and the new galleries. We purchased the ticket at the entry point. They have handed over a map for our ease. We started with the Car museum. It's a spectacular display of vintage cars. Historically significant and artistically-inspired classic cars from throughout the motor car era. They have 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagon, to latest Ferraris in their collection. They have a very special car - The "Eleanor". It's a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500, this was featured on the Nicolas Cage movie Gone in 60 seconds. Another interesting car is 1951 Talbot Lago - just one car was built and that's here for display. 1959 Plymouth Sports Fury, different models of Rolls Royce Phantoms, the classic 1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster, 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, 2017 Lamborghini Centenario and 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista are some of the best from their collection. They have maintained it so well that anyone who is crazy about the cars would be excited to spend time here. I am sure kids will go crazy about this place. The Spirit of the Old West is their biggest gallery. This one gives you an insight to how the American history was shaped. You have plenty to learn from this exhibit. Each section was showcasing the life & culture of the Indians, the settling of the Western Frontier, from Mountain Men and Settlers, to Outlaws and Lawmen. Mostly covers the stories of American westward expansion from the mid-1700s through the early 1900s. The featured exhibits contains Native American Tools & Weapons, artifacts of Native American Life, rare and unique Firearms, tools of Frontier Settlers etc. This is a must visit gallery for a history-buff! Go Into The Wild is another big exhibit. They have an incredible collection of well curated animal species from all over the world. This must be another favorite destination of kids here. They have made the exhibits three-dimensional by adding sounds to many. The exhibit is very diverse, depicting different ecosystems from around the globe. They have covered the animals from rain forests, savannahs, underwater, Asian, south American and north American ecosystems. Some of the exhibits are well recreated - some of them even look so real. Into China showcases the years of Chinese culture and history. They have some exceptional art works from China, including the Imperial Dragon Throne and an intricate model of the Forbidden City. There are many exhibits showcasing the different Chinese dynasties and their timelines. The Forbidden City model is one of the best among the exhibits - it's very detailed and intricate. Terracotta Army, ancient life in China, the replica of Emperor's Throne, some masterful wood carving, Yak Bone carving etc are really splendid. Museum is only opened during weekends, encouraged to purchase the tickets online, but it's available at the entry points as well. They have guided tours as well, but we didn't try that. They have Covid safety protocols in place. Mask is mandatory and sanitizers are available everywhere. Wonderful museum! 5 completely different exhibits. I accompanied my husband for the auto museum (first floor) but it was actually this A-class museum's third floor's "Spirit of the Old West" exhibit that captured me, even bringing me to tears at times. Who would've thought that this museum would allow events to take place in and around old expensive cars? Well they do, and they have their own catering for such events. I was fortuante enough to see some of the rooms in this museum thanks to attending a wedding ceremony with the reception held in the museum as well. Came here mid-July 2017 for my cousins wedding. Wasn't really sure what to expect when I saw on the invitation that it was a museum. The place is large, we were escorted into the Asian themed room for the ceremony. We had to wait a while for the ceremony as they were running late (not the place but the bride....of course!) and it was extremely hot in this room even though the entrance to it was big & open as in no doors. Why they didn't have any A/C on is beyond me so it was very uncomfortable to say the least. After the ceremony we all sat out in the lobby area having small bites of food and drinks. Unfortunately the food service part wasn't great as they never ventured passed certain areas and there wasn't that much so if you weren't standing right by the area where the servers were coming out of you didn't get anything. I got one small appetizer and that was it. When I went to get another drink the bartender was extremely rude when telling me he was closed. With me, being rude like that doesn't get you very far and doesn't get you a tip! After waiting a while, we all finally got to go into a room where there were classic old cars. In this room they had tables in a sectioned area but you could still see the cars. They served prime rib, salmon and apparently the people with kids were told they had pizza. Well that was a bust, they only had chicken nuggets for the kids. Some people with kids were complaining but they are actually very fortunate that the caterers even had "kid friendly" food in my opinion. The food was delicious. I do have to say they need to organize their in- house catering a bit better as it did take a while for the food to come out and the service was slow. Everyone at my table, with the exception of the 2 very small children had prime rib and only half of us got our salad, then the servers came out with the main course but for only half the people to which they gave it to the people who didn't have any salad yet. Makes me wonder how the service is for other events that are held here other then weddings. Now onto the cars......of course they are all roped off and each car has a stand if you will, with information on it regarding the cars as in year, make & model, manufacturer, engine, and lots of other information. So many fabulous cars in one room! And of course, the temperature in this room was temperature controlled and was not hot like where the wedding was held. What I got to see was great. I will say that if you plan on holding an event at this museum or a wedding with reception, make sure the food service is up to what you want it to be as it definitely was lacking at this wedding. read more
