I'm a veterinary professional that now works a remote job after spending the majority of my career working in various hospitals. Up until that transition, I've personally performed everything my dog needs myself (under DVM supervision of course) for his entire life. In the 15 years I've been in this field, I've see a wide spectrum of care, most of it done by amazing, highly educated, and dedicated professionals but sadly, I've also seen too many instances of carelessness that led to poor patient outcomes, so I am extremely cautious about who works on my animals. Honestly, I can be kind of a pain in the a** until my trust is earned. I am happy to say that my experience with the Blackhawk crew has been excellent. My boy is 11 years old, very anxious, has multiple issues, and, true to the vet med rules that tech pets always have to be more complicated, is now dealing with a chronic illness that has been difficult to diagnose and treat. I'm not a fan of old-school veterinary medicine. I want my animals to always have the most current, evidence based care and I feel like Dr. Isom meets the mark here, which in my experience is less common in more rural areas like this. She is thorough in her assessments and discussing treatment/diagnostic options, even going the extra mile to consult with specialists as my boy's case continues to defy the norm. I am terrible with remembering names so I know I am not giving enough recognition to everyone that has worked on my boy, but Carolina and Dr. Isom have been very understanding of my background and my dog's sensitivities. The team has done a great job customizing my boy's visits to minimize stress for us both, which I deeply appreciate. I also have to give everyone extra props for accomplishing all of this while also transitioning their practice management software over to a paperless system, which is a HUGE undertaking to be handling on top of the usual demands of our profession. Will never bring my animals here again. Had a horrible experience with our cat this month that ended up having to be put down on my 6th visit into the office. Dr. Wert lacks bedside manners completely, unprofessional and spoke down to me. My cat was peeing blood and they didn't do any X-rays or lab work, they just manually cleared his bladder and sent his home several days in a row. Maybe if I had brought him somewhere he would have made it. But never again to Blackhawk. We had an appointment with Dr Isom at Blackhawk Animal Clinic for vaccinations and to have my dog tested for her thyroid this past Saturday. I was told I would receive a call with test results that afternoon. No call was received so I called this Monday 11 May 2026 and was told again the vet would call with results no call by 4:30 so I again called for the results. Was again told for the third time the vet would call me with results before the end of the day and again the clinic and Veterinarian failed to call for this. read more

I brought my kitty, Willow, in on Feb. 17th and I've gotten nothing but super helpful feedback and wonderful support from the team since. She's normally super nervous at the vet but this is the best vet visit we ever had. Sometimes she has accidents in her crate, but she never did here. I really appreciate how sweet they already are to my kitty and glad I get the opportunity to bring her somewhere where she is comfortable. They automatically enroll you in a horrible third party emailing system that is supposed to set appointments for you and relay messages. It does not do either. Even worse, since the office doesn't bother to update the third party records, you get spammed to come in for pet vaccinations already received. Then your email is sold off to "affiliates" and the spam continues long after you unsubscribe to a third-party you never signed up for or wanted. I only wanted annual vaccination, not years of spam, mixed up appointments, no answers to questions and in the end...since the system didn't relay my message (or staff just ignored me), the office didn't have the vaccination needed to go to doggie care. I recommend you never provide an email. Three stars for being open and providing great BASIC pet care in the middle of nowhere. read more

Was looking at the reviews for this vet and was surprised with the amount of bad ones. I know yelp can be over saturated with bad reviews sometimes so I thought I'd share my great experiences with Blackhawk. I have two dogs that I currently take to Blackhawk and one senior dog that usually requires a monthly visit at the minimum due to the normal joys of getting older. For my younger dog, Blackhawk has been fantastic in keeping the cost low for us. This was especially true when we first brought him to the vet for vaccinations as he was a rescue and had no prior medical history. Instead of charging us for every possible vaccination they could, they told us which ones were necessary versus redundant to help save on the initial visit. For my senior dog, I had lived in Spokane valley for about 2 years and used a different vet in between going to Blackhawk. While there, I was taken advantage of my lack of knowledge and pressured into multiple testing and surgery visits that ended up costing thousands. It wasn't until I decided to take my dog back to Blackhawk, that I realized how much that other vet had taken advantage of me. Immediately, Dr. Wert was honest in a treatment plan and solved the problem of my dogs persistent medical issues in ONE VISIT. I have always had a fantastic experience with Blackhawk and would trust them in providing the best care for my pets while also being transparent in cost. read more

I can only say from the moment anyone here picks up the phone until the time you leave, you and your pet are cared for. We watched our sweet Aussie struggle to get around as one of his back hips atrophied and when the pain was evident we made the most difficult call any of us ever make. We were heartbroken and assured that we could be seen in a few hours, and when we arrived as the last appointment of the day they ushered us into a quiet room with layers of warm blankets on the floor for our Newman to be comfy. There was only calm and patience from Devon the Vet Tech, they gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye to our long time family member . I have gone through this so many times with my animals over the years. If I could leave this review with 0 stars I would. Horrible service here. Don't take your pet here, especially with Dr.Lehman. She does not care about your pet, she is quick to Just charge you and have you out the door. My 7 month old husky had gotten a cut on his ear Tuesday night from grooming him. I accidentally cut him and I wanted to get it cleaned and taken care of because it was bleeding a little and I didn't want it to start to getting infected. I did my best cleaning it and put Neosporin. Normally I take him to get seen in Spokane, but since they were booked I settled for this place and it was the BIGGEST mistake again. The first time I took Kilo here was back in August and I was allowed to go into the exam room with him. As soon as we walked into the room my dog was trying to eat something from the floor and it was a human peanut snack on the ground. That alone is unsanitary and very unsafe for your dog. 0/5 stars alone right there. They clearly did not clean the exam room before I got in there and let me remind you all this is during the MIDDLE OF THE PANDEMIC and they didn't clean that exam room AND let owners go inside with their pets. Only reason why was because it was an emergency & he needed to be seen ASAP... but Back to the second time I took Kilo here, I wasn't able to go with Kilo because I'm SO busy with school so my boyfriend went for us. After the appointment was over which was less than an hour long. He didn't get his ear cleaned, they BARELY even took a look inside his poor ear because he kept resisting, didn't take his temperature which is super important to let us know if he is getting infection, didn't suggest we get a new brush nor told us to stop using the one we have (I threw that brush away), or that we put a cone on him which is SO important to stop from getting infected by him scratching at it, AND to top it off they muzzled him without letting my boyfriend know. It was a very horrible service.. Dr. Lehman had only suggested we gave him oral medication and an ointment that we can buy from them to help with getting infected. My boyfriend called to check in with me and I declined the ointment because we have two that are very good and we're "okayed" by the doctor and we only paid for the medication. The bill was still over $100 for them to "examine" him which they hardly did and get some oral meds. This was all WEDNESDAY of this week. I noticed my Kilo was not getting any better, and he kept trying to scratch at his ear all the time! So I then realized get him a CONE!! So I went to the pet store here in Cheney and got him a cone. I couldn't believe that the Vet didn't suggest I get one or offered me one there for Kilo. Last night I checked Kilos ear to see how he was doing and it's getting worse.. probably because he kept scratching at it with his paws that get dirty from going outside. Friday this morning I called (tried calling Thursday but office was already closed), to let the lady at the front desk how their service was not to my expectations. I spent 37 mins on the phone. The receptionist couldn't handle me so she gave up and passed the phone over to the manager 20 mins into our conversation. The doctor wasn't there either since she's only there a few times out of the week, so unfortunately I didn't get a chance to speak to her. They wanted to charge me AGAIN to go in to get him cleaned after I already paid them Wednesday to see him and get all that done. When I was speaking to the manager she was defending the doctor, kept putting me on hold to gather her information correctly, and was not trying to help me at all. After realizing that, I ended the call I said just forget it I told the manager I'm never coming back here, I'm telling everyone I know never to come here, I'm leaving a horrible review and to have a nice day and that's exactly what I did. She said have a good day bye.The manager was no help, just as HORRIBLE as the receptionist who gave up on helping me, and just as HORRIBLE as the Dr. Lehman who doesn't care about animals, or is probably racist against my boyfriend & probably didn't help as good as she would with a person who looked like her. Very bias. Very bad place to take your pet here. Made the mistake twice people.. DO NOT GO HERE! Kilo is now in more pain and his cut on his ear has now turned into an infection for sure. Thankfully he is on antibiotics for the infection, I have ointment here that I put on him twice a day and he is now wearing this cone almost 24/7 to prevent him from scratching and making it worse. He is scheduled for an appointment at our vet that we normally go to Monday so let's all hope for the best. In the photos below you can see he isn't too happy.. also a picture of his good ear and his bad ear that the doctor took a look at 2 days ago and did not bother to clean nor suggest we get a cone.. just wanted to us to pay for the meds and be on our way.. a HUGE shame on this Place. i brought my dog here to be put down because he was struggling and having a rough time, they pumped him full of morphine then proceeded to only worry about the payment and if we could get that figured out before they do anything with him, but if that was the case why did they give him morphine THEN decide to worry about it. they were way more concerned with the money than they were my dying dog, and after we got everything figured out they had the audacity to tell me they were sorry for my loss. i requested the inked paw print and it looks like they just slapped his paw on the paper then moved on. there was no effort put into it, he had already passed when they did it so i don't know why the print looks like absolute shit. pets are people's children- there should've been a lot more care and a lot more respect in the situation. i will never be back, the only one who was actually helpful and tried in the situation was the blonde at the front desk. also why the fuck is it almost 300$ to get your pets ashes back on top of the exam and the euthanasia? read more

We were new in town and dog had a ear infection. We went over his history and why he wasn't neutered (heart issues). The Doc was confident he could perform the surgery and it would help us with his growing aggressive behavior. Our Remington came thru the surgery amazingly well and he's been so much better. Still growls occasionally but nothing like before. They are always so helpful and nice when I call with just a quick question. read more

Took my dog in for facial swelling. The doctor thought it was a tooth abscess so booked an appointment to have teeth cleaned and pull the bad tooth. My dog was at the vets for her surgery appointment and they called me an hour later telling me they didn't have time to take care of her. So I had to go pick her up after she had been pre anesthetized taking her all day to regain her strength. The quote on the phone was for $250 for cleaning and anesthesia but when I got the actual quote from the doctor he told me between $500-$600. He was very frustrated when I questioned his itemized quote and just told me it would cost twice that amount in California without explaining how he got to the over the top price. So glad they didn't do the surgery as I had it all taken care of in Clarkston at Orchards Vet Clinic for $248 and they were amazing with her care and follow up. If I could give this office zero stars, I would have. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. My dog is nervous around new people and in new places. The last office we took him to clipped his nails too short and he was a little traumatized by it. We called around and Blackhawk said they would accommodate us and could have someone come out to the parking lot to meet him and check him out. Even suggesting if he needed it, that they could come out, give him a shot, wait for it to take effect, and then bring him in. We arrived for our scheduled appointment and I tried walking in with him (with treats) but he was too nervous and refused (he's a large dog so there's no picking him up and carrying him in). I went Inside by myself to check in and have someone come out with me. The woman at the front desk said they would not have someone come out and see him. I asked her why they would tell me yes on the phone and then when I showed up, refuse. She had nothing to say to me other than "Didn't you bring treats with you?" Yes I did and I tried, but I'm not going to force him inside. I told her I had been emailing with them and my boyfriend had spoken on the phone with them a few times and we were told they could have someone come look at him outside. They had no compassion for my nervous dog, and didn't really seem to care that they were wasting my time by lying. As it turns out, I'm glad they wouldn't help him, as it seems they have a reputation for not caring about animals, and seem to have hurt more than they have helped. Veterinarians are supposed to care about animals. Clearly, these people do not. read more

This place sucks. Took my dog in and they couldn't tell me what was wrong with him, wanted to run a bunch of tests and take my money. Another vet figured out it was a hernia. Tried again taking my cat in, they had no clue what was wrong with her wanted to run a bunch of expensive tests. Self diagnosed her myself with hyperthyroidism, no help from them. They don't know what they are doing...basically they can charge you all day running tests but they are no help to the animals health....very disappointed read more

My four year dog is dead, and it's 100% because of this office. He was not his usual self, so we took him in. They've somehow managed not to kill my 13 year old dog, so I had no idea I needed to be worried about him. They took labs and xrays and told us his liver numbers were off. We were told "It could be an infection, or it could be catastrophic" So we went home with an antibiotic and waited. We took him back in a couple times for fluids, because he wasn't eating or drinking, and the staff was SO RUDE to my girls. My daughters were asking questions, trying to understand what was going on, and the staff were brushing them off and acting like they were stupid for even asking. My girls knew he ate things he shouldn't, so they specifically asked about what the xrays showed, and were told he had "nothing in his stomach". After a few days, he didn't get any better, so we sought out a second opinion. We took him to West Plains Animal Hospital (which I also reviewed, five enthusiastic stars!) Dr Belles did the same labs and xrays, and said "his tummy is full of things it shouldn't be. It's not his liver" She arranged for him to be admitted to the emergency vet that night, and Dr O'Dea performed surgery on him. (Five stars also for this office). He ended up removing 21 inches of destroyed bowel and intestine. Our dog was shuffled between their two offices for three days of excellent care, and then we brought him home where he died on a blanket in our living room after having suffered too much inside damage for too long. My family is utterly broken, and this all could have been avoided with proper diagnosis at the beginning. My old dog has meds she needs, and I will be getting those transferred and I will not step foot back in this office. If you love your animals.... go elsewhere. read more

Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital is reasonable and gets you in as quickly as possible. After seeing my previous local vet for an injury and being told it would cost $350 for stitches and sedation etc.; I went to Blackhawk Veterinary and they got me in within 20 minutes with no appointment. The service was excellent, and they treated me fairly. And, the icing on the cake, I actually got to meet the vet! At my previous office the vet only works 1-2 days per week and no discount is given when you see the vet tech versus the vet. Here, there is always a vet on site. For the injury, they trimmed back the hair from the wound, cleaned it up, and gave me antibiotics. All for under $100! Since I am a mom of 5 kids, I was so relieved to be able to afford the care my daughter's puppy needed. Needless to say, my records are being transferred over from my past vet to Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital. They treat you kindly, fairly, and the veterinarian is always on site.
