Nothing like paying 150 dollars to play just to feel rushed at every tee box. Tee times every 5 minutes. Ended up taking a rain check.

This is one of my favorite premium (over $100 green fee) courses around Houston. It's pricey with tee times usually over $150 but I've found $125 deals on GolfNow. Overall I think it's worth it. I'm not a member so I've only played the North Course. The pro shop and restaurant/bar are nice. The carts are above average and I really like how the driving range uses real tees. The halfway shack is well equipped with beer, snacks, cigars etc. The cart girl also came by multiple times. The course itself is in really good shape with good tee boxes, fairways and greens. My biggest critique is that many of the fairways are surrounded by ~8 inch tall wild grass. On several occasions I hit a slightly bad, but not terrible shot, and couldn't find my ball in the overgrown grass which was frustrating. All the staff I've met are friendly and welcoming even to non members. read more

Played at Blackhorse today as a foursome. The course is in very rough condition. Honestly it is maybe worth half of the $145 green fee. The sand traps are mostly washed out while the rest of the course is hard as a rock. The worst part of it is that they claimed there was no junior green fee for a 12 and 16 year old. A 12 year old had to pay $145 to play this course!This despite the course being completely dead on a Saturday with threatening weather. Unacceptable. Recommend you look elsewhere for golf. Where do I start. Went and played on a Monday to avoid the crowds. One of the worst kept/shape courses I've played in the last decade. The greens, fairways, rough, secondary rough were vastly overgrown. The areas that had been cut in the past few weeks they never bothered to clean up the mulch/left over grass. Our group of 3 which had a combined handicap of ~30 lost at least 12 balls just off the fairway in the primary rough due to poor conditions . Unacceptable. The greens were largely inconsistent, poorly managed, the cart attendant service was abysmal, the amount of "ground under repair" conditions were too much to count, etc... just. Awful. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for it (friends club membership)...unless they fix the conditions I won't be back, free or not. read more

Super money hungry now. Changed their driving range policy to members only or if you have a tee time. We were playing the next day and they still turned us away. Just did a fitting with Callaway two weeks ago and bought $5000 worth of clubs there, but couldn't get range balls. Won't be playing there anytime soon. read more

This was my first time visiting to play as one of my friends chose this place. We had a 2 for the price of one special. It is somewhat expensive to play here.We used their driving range the day before and hit a few baskets. They charge $8 a basket. We played the North course and it was in really good condition. The tee boxes, fairways and green were in very good condition. The only hiccup was our golf cart started bogging down around the 13th hole and we barely made it back. In fact we had to push it a little to make it over a hump.We didn't eat here also so I cant comment on their food and drinks. We were able to take advantage of the cart girl when she came around and there was a selection of beer and mixed drinks for purchase. I would play again if we get another special. read more

The course itself was nice enough and while busy, was playing well enough until hole 7. It all stopped.... not one but two groups backed up on a par 3 with beginners who were struggling. Normally not a problem but neither would let anyone to play thru and not a Marshall to be seen. From there we went from what was going to be a 3:30 hour round to over 4:45. Disappointing and frustrating as my search for a golf home will continue. read more

Avoid the north course for sure. Multiple trees down. Cart path only on many holes which is a real pain and waste of time. Not sure why they felt the need to restrict access to the fairways. NO water in the jugs on the first nine which was terrible on such a hot day. Overall for $71 I would say don't play it. They also have wispy Bermuda which hides golf balls that would normally be easy to find. read more

I've been to Blackhorse multiple times for Golf Tournaments but not as a player. The facility and courses (2 to choose from) have been a fantastic host each time for charity golf events I've volunteered for. I finally got around to booking a tee time this weekend and had a great round playing the South course. We teed off at 7:30am to beat the heat and it wasn't terribly crowded even being Memorial Day Weekend. The driving range, and course have a private golf club feel but are open to public tee times, though not the cheapest golf in town. Grass was well maintained and green. Bunkers on the South course were beasts and there are plenty to avoid. Great varied course offering water shots, tough par 4's and few breather par 3's. Also, the drink cart must have circled past us at least 5 times, so you're covered on beverages while you play. All around great course and experience. I'd put it on your radar as a Houston must play course, especially if private clubs are out of reach. read more

The top 2 best public golf courses in Houston, this is #2 behind it's sister course, Red Stone(Shell Houston Open course). And deserving every bit of the #2 spot. Especially using the coupons for half price rounds. Short, nice greens, great layout on the South Course, mind blowing hueveos rancheros, and slightly inflated price. Pretty long, and lots of fun especially the South Course. South: Big Jake: 7191 Black: 6957 Blue: 6434 White: 6084 Red: 5473 Green: 4839 North: Big Jake: 7301 Black: 7075 Blue: 6615 White: 6199 Red: 5640 Green: 5065 This is by far the best conditioned course I have played in Houston. There are 2 18's here, both challenging with the South being the more scenic and North more straight forward. South Course #1 sets up with a innocent looking short hole with an elevated green. Then goes to a long water guarded #2 with rough all over the left side. #15 might be the easiest and your scoring hole before it all gets nuts with the narrow 16, Volcano island-ish 17th, and the big breaking left 18th. Not a course for the hacks, but it's a true representation of a PGA tour quality layout. Tons of bunkers, out of bounds and trees. Bring extra balls, and enjoy watching them bounce off (Houses on the North course, water/hazard on the South Course). Food: Juevos Rancheros- Fusion style served with 2 eggs of your choice of rarity, beans, feta cheese on top of a crisp wafer, Side of fruit. A+ Must Try! Sampler- B Burger- B Turkey sandwich- A Fries- A bit soggy, C Better than typical clubhouse food, but with such a tough course, you better make the time for some of the treats. South side is 5 Stars, North side lowers the score. So if there is another reason to start golf, it's the excellent food menu here at Black Horse. On multiple visits he has treated non-member, but paying customers and/or guests, extremely poorly and it's not representative of the price you pay for the course and facilities. read more

Played out here the other day, fantastic experience. The customer service was great, all around. Not really sure what they other folks on here were talking about in regards to rude employees, maybe we were just lucky enough not to run across them. Who knows.... The only complaint (played the south course) and that on some of the holes the grass was fairly sparse. Around the greens I'd find myself looking for some grass to put my ball on. Odd, b/c the fairways, greens, and tee boxes were in great shape. Not sure about the north course, but the bunkers on the south were in fantastic shape (saw 3 of them personally). Anyway, $85 is steep but the course isn't in bad shape, even being really busy the pace of play was great, and the customer service was amazing. read more

This was my first time and we played the Blue tees. However they had them set at the balck tee marks. We had some par 4's playing 430 and higher. Overall great course great layout and very challenging. Approach shots are forgiving however out the box it is not forgiving either trees water or bunkers so you have to be accurate out the box. Great course and will paly again. read more

Nice golf course located out in Cypress! It had rained a lot during the week before I played and I was expecting the fairways and greens to be wet or for the course to be in poorer condition but I was really impressed with how well this course had been managed. The fairways and greens were all in great condition. The food/snack cart came around pretty often and the food at the restaurant was good too. Would definitely recommend this course! read more

I've only started playing golf really this year and my friends love playing this course (South) so I've gotten to play it a few times. It's pretty far from being the cheapest place but they run specials quite often it seems. We usually jump on the Twilight price any time for the weekend deals. Even then, it's a pretty penny but it's golf, it's not necessarily a poor man's sport. What's important is that the price is worth the purchase. The course is challenging but not too challenging to discourage someone like say Wildcat. The course is pretty well maintained and consistent. Greens are pretty fast and beer girls running around pretty frequently. Very nice course and friendly staff so definitely check it out if you like to golf. read more

We played the south course and wow did I contribute some golf balls to the turtles and woodlands creatures. It was a beautiful course but unforgiving for a bad drive. Greens were super fast but well maintained. It was a beautiful course with all the water and trees. I just wish I was better at golf! read more

The course is a stunning 36 hole layout that challenges every skill level. Once the sand traps are properly renovated (it's ongoing), it'll only get tougher. Ample water buckets at tee boxes and the course itself is incredibly well kept. The greens are diabolical in a good way. The clubhouse after is a great place to get a post-round beer and a simple lunch. Kristen, Holly, Brandi and their team are friendly and top-notch, eager to interact and have a great sense of humor. And they're good at what they do, too. Hopefully, I'll get back here to try the South Course at some point. read more

Where do I start?!!! Frank. Old mean man at the pro shop. Makes you feel unworthy because you booked your tee time through Golf Now instead of them. Sent my niece in to check in and asked her to ask if we could take an extra cart but since we didn't booked it through them and it only came with one, he went ahead and charged us for an extra cart. I was floored when I walked in and saw the extra charge on my receipt so I asked for a refund. Afterwards we jumped in one cart and began to load up our bags. A few minutes later, Frank had the audacity to come outside to make sure we only took one cart. Why are you so worried about that? What you should be worried about is the ignorant people who drives onto the Par 3's and up to the greens. Basically, if you ain't white, you ain't right. I'll be glad to take my business elsewhere. Very nice course - but you pay for it of course, $96 for an early morning Friday start. I was a tad nervous because there was a tournament going on at both North and South courses, and I thought I was going to be swamped by them, but I needn't have worried - I didn't see anyone during my entire round. There was never any pressure, and no yahoo's dropping their drives behind me to give us a hint, etc... I did see a starter/marshall cart driving around, which is good, but I wasn't hassled by them, so that was good too. One unintended benefit of playing while there was a tournament on: the beer "person" assumed we were in the tournament, in which case beers were already paid for. We said we were in the tournament. Yes, I know, naughty! The north course was challenging, with bunkers and trees being the main hazards to avoid, although there was water, but not impossible water. Fairways and greens were lovely. All in all, a great time was had. I can't fault it, so I guess I shouldn't deduct any stars, eh? read more

This review is extremely late but definitely needed. My husband and I chose to get married at Black Horse (last year in November) and it was the best decision of the entire wedding process. Not only was it extremely affordable (like very) but the customer service was amazing. We worked with Erin who helped us plan for the wedding (forgot to mention we planned the entire wedding in less than 3 months) and who was completely patient with us the whole time. Two things really stood out to me that made Black Horse shine. 1) Apparently we ran out of food for our guests BUT when Erin approached my husband and I about that she was only doing so to inform us and to say that she had already taken care of it and that everyone would still be fed within the next 10 minutes. After the wedding I asked random guests if they noticed the shortage of food and everyone was shocked because no one noticed that we had NO steaks left. Erin and Black Horse handled the situation PERFECTLY. 2) I didn't have my phone on me the entire reception so I of course lost track of time. Not once did any staff or Erin approach me about how WAY past our reserved time we were OR make me or my guests feel like we were being rushed out. In fact I stayed behind to say goodbye to all my guests as they left on their own terms and meanwhile all the staff discreetly cleaned up behind everyone ALL while still ALL asking me how my night was and if they could get me anything. All the while I didn't even realize I was hours past the time the reception should have been completed. I can't say that is what they will always do for everyone (you have to make money) but I'm completely impressed and appreciative of how they responded to that situation. Every single person who worked the wedding & reception that evening made me feel completely special and like they were there to make everything perfect for me. I started playing golf back in May and have only played on a handful of courses so far, but Blackhorse is near the top of my list. A coworkers wife works for Redstone and was able to get us a discounted price on a Saturday, which is the only reason why I came. No way am I going to spend over $100 to play one round of golf. There are two courses for this golf club, the north and south courses. Apparently Blackhorse is renowned for its south course but I played on the north course. The course is well maintained and was pretty fun to play on with my coworkers (got my first par on hole #2, woot). Most of the holes were isolated until the very end where they decided to bunch them together. I haven't encountered any 450-500 yard par 4s until I played here and damn, holes like that make me me want to keep learning how to play golf. All in all, a very nice course. If the south course is supposed to be way better than the north course then wow, I hope I get to play there one day. I'm giving a five star rating because I can only compare it to the other few courses I've played on, so maybe I'll come back one day and change my rating, but for someone very new to the sport, it was a blast to play here. You also know it's going to be nice place when you see a bunch of high school kids jumping into their brand new 6 series convertibles and escalades. With clients like that (well, daddy's money I guess), you can expect to see this club kept in good shape. read more

I played the North course as I was thinking about joining the club. The greens and fairways were in great shape. Although the course is beautiful and challenging the bunkers were poorly maintained. The is no sand in the bunkers around the greens. Other bunkers were not groomed. If a course wants to have so many bunkers, they should plan on maintaining them. This course (actually 2 18-hole courses) is fabulous - on par (haha, lame-o golf pun) with Redstone for quality and condition, but perhaps even nicer in the way it is designed for both very good, and not very good, golfers to enjoy. Yes, it's quite a hike from downtown Houston and it isn't cheap, but it's worth both the drive and price We went on a Saturday afternoon and played the South course. Some of the tees are a little hard to find because the cart paths wander around a lot and cross over each other, but that is my only, extremely minor complaint. The pro shop staff were friendly and accommodating, and one of the groundskeepers came over to ask us how we liked the course as we were packing our clubs in the car at the end of the round - a level of friendliness and approachability that is often lacking at the more up-market courses. The course design is great - generally the fairways are open and the course is pretty, but what I really like about it is that there is a very wide range of golf ability catered for in the tee box positions - from very long and difficult to very short for the beginners or juniors. It's unusual to find a course where the shorter hitters are genuinely accommodated with still-challenging shots, nice vistas and fun targets to shoot for. Really a great course. read more

This was a very nice course. Also like most courses it was very peaceful. Google maps take you to the wrong driveway it's the next driveway for the course. Back to the course the fairways are in good condition , the greens were nice and to top it off they have local beer Karbach Hopadillo being my favorite. This course is ridiculously over-priced and over-rated. The greens, fairways, and tee boxes are in no better condition than most of the other local-to-drive golf courses. Heck, some of the tee boxes I'll rank right up there with Heron Lakes. Sure you get a couple of water holes that are nice to look at while you tee off but is that worth it? Not for me! The memberships are incredibly and stupendously over-priced as well for a public golf course. I could understand if it was private to be that high but public and being the condition it has been in the 5 or 6 times I've played since October 2017 (someone else's dime) leaves no justification for me to expend those kinds of monies. Two weekends ago, we played an entire 18 hole game (3 of us) and never saw a cart girl. Membership staff (at least the one I spoke too) are cocky and arrogant and the older gentleman in the pro shop should have been cast as the lead character in Grumpy Old Men. The icing on the cake for me is local Cy-Fair schools have gone to BHGC in assistance for fund-raising events/tournaments over the past few years to which they say no and will not support but they'll support tournaments and gatherings for biker groups. They support the BH community in no way either (yes I own a home here too on the North Course). Just ashamed I have to drive 5 miles down the road to enjoy a reasonably priced golf game at Cypress Lakes without having to sit on GolfNow every 2 minutes looking for a "hot deal" at BH. Greens on South were just sanded and then told we are giving you special price because of that. However prices were the same that were online for both courses . Greens were so sanded that on several holes I aimed away from sand traps only find it was green. Couldn't even put pin back in hole because filled with sand. Shouldn't have been an option for playing south course . Insult was saying special price and knowing GolfNow had specials nearly 20.00 cheaper. I'll think twice about playing there again. Should have offered to play North course instead. Fool me once but our group will most likely play elsewhere. read more
