Black's was referred by a friend who knew how frustrated I was with trying to get a bid from Kodiak Gutters (original installer of my gutters), who came out to bid the job and never sent one. I even called to gently remind them and they still didn't send it. Everything happens for a reason though and I am so happy we were forced to look elsewhere and got referred to Black's instead. Our gutters had been destroyed by ice dams this past winter and were beyond repair. Plus, they were cheap and never really held up that great to begin with. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how cheap my old gutters were until I saw the quality materials used by Black's. Not only did we replace all the gutters around the house, we decided to get covers and heat strips added as well. Big job! They are not cheap but quality work comes at a price. Recently, we had our front yard landscaped and I was very concerned it would be destroyed by falling debris. These guys were amazing.They did an outstanding job and took care to not damage my new landscaping. They did such a good job, I had their masonry dept. come out to fix our rock, light pillars at the end of my driveway (also destroyed by the harsh winter). Again, an amazing, professional job! Quality work, TERRIBLE customer service. I contacted Blacks, Inc. back in November of 2021 to schedule a chimney cleaning at one of my rental properties in Hayden. When speaking with the scheduler, I stated I was a repeat customer and this was for a rental property. She verified my home/mailing address first, then the address of the property needing service. When I was contacted prior to the cleaning, I explained to another employee Black's the home was by tenant occupied, and connected them with the tenant so the work could be completed. The work was completed on 12/21/2021, then I never heard from the company after that. We never received a single invoice in the mail, and not once did anyone from Black's call us to remind us of the outstanding balance due. Then on March 1st 2022, I received a threatening voicemail from "Mike" from Black's stating they had not received payment and planned to take legal action against me by filing a lien against my property. I immediately called the company back and left them a voicemail complaining that they had never sent us a bill nor even did we receive a courtesy call about an outstanding balance. I contacted my tenant who verified no bill was ever sent to my rental property address. After my voicemail, I still did not receive a call back from the company. Beyond the threatening voicemail I received, the only correspondence I received from the company was a notice of lien delivered to my home address on March 21, 2022. I promptly went on to the company website and paid the bill in full. Black's has clearly violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act along with probable Slander of Title. All of this for $398, and all Black's needed to do was send just one bill in the mail, or give us a courtesy call to let us know we had an outstanding balance and we would've paid it on the spot. We spent almost $6,000 on rain gutters for another property with Black's, and sadly they'll never get our business again. read more

I finally got around to having my dryer vent cleaned out after living here for 8 years. I can't believe I waited so long . It's a fire safety issue, but something that I had never really given much thought to. Definitely one of those "out of sight - out of mind" things. My service window to have the dryer vent and chimney cleaned was from 8AM to noon. Michael from Black's showed up just after 8:00 and got right to work. He was very friendly and professional. I expected the chimney cleaning to result in a dusty, sooty mess in the house, but my fears were completely unfounded. He kept any potential mess fully contained. I guess the dryer vent was REALLY DIRTY. I'm simply amazed by the volume of lint that came out. It was impressive. Michael did a great job and I'm very satisfied with the results. read more

From the original contact with Mike for an estimate last year, to removing our old stove--no easy task, to the install last week with Sage, Mike and his son Slider, I have nothing but good things to say. Very professional, clean, efficient team. We are so happy how the stove looks and that they were able to custom fit with some adjusting. This fixer upper we bought has been no easy task dealing with and something always comes up to complicate every job but Black's team took the glitch in stride and got it done. My complaint against Blacks Chimney & Fireplace Service is over a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices act and probable Slander of Title. I contacted Blacks back in September of 2022 to schedule a chimney cleaning at our residence.  Service was scheduled for 11/16/22. When speaking with the scheduler, my physical address, phone number and email address were verified. I was then contacted on 11/14 by text stating my appointment was on 11/15 the next day. I rescheduled my day to accommodate the change of appointment to the 15th.  On the 15th nobody showed and I called Blacks at 2:30pm to see what happened.  I was told on the phone that my appointment wasn't until the 16th.  At that point, I sent them the text message they sent me on the 14th stating they would be there on the 15th.  Once again, I had to adjust my schedule for Blacks.  I expressed to them I had to leave the house by 3:15 pm to pick up my children from school.  The tech did not arrive until 2:00pm on the 16th.  By the time he had finished it was 3:10, and he was still writing out the invoice.  He explained that I could pay online with the invoice number.  At that point, I was in such a rush to pick up my children from school that I misplaced the invoice.  I will admit this is my fault for misplacing the invoice.  When I couldn't find the invoice and realized there was no way to pay online without it, I called Blacks but got no answer.  The next mistake I'll admit to is I forgot about the bill.  Then, on 1/31/23, I received a notice of lien on my house.  In between the time of service and the notice of lien, I had received no notice from Blacks in any way.  I immediately contacted them that afternoon but was told I would have to call back the next day when accounting was in.  I called back the next morning on 2/1 and paid my bill in full.  I then asked about the lien on my house and the person helping me said someone else would call me back.  Later that morning, I was contacted by someone else at Blacks who told me it was all my fault and not their problem.  I was told it was not their responsibility to notify me about late payments.  The most disturbing thing they told me was that they sent me multiple emails about the late payment.  When I told them I received no such emails, I was called a liar, and they said they could tell when I read these emails they supposedly sent to me.  I was then told by Blacks that my email account must have been hacked, and someone deleted the emails they sent me.  Not only am I not missing any other emails from my account but I still have the three emails only Blacks sent me in my email history.  The first email setting up the original appointment.  The second email confirming the time on the day of the appointment.  The third email from the receipt of payment.  I then asked the person I was speaking with to send these supposed emails to my husband's email.  That was seven weeks ago, and we still have seen no emails or have received any correspondence from them.  To this day, they have not removed the lien against our property.  I have been a homeowner for 11 years and have never experienced anything like this before.  I was a repeat customer with Blacks, sad that it had to end this way. read more

Phenomenal gutter installation for my South Hill Spokane home. Our 1950's rancher badly needed gutters and when we purchased the home we really wanted to get gutters on before the rainy spring. Enter---my favorite home services company I have worked with to date. Amazing communication process from start to finish and we had ZERO hiccups in the install (in January 2015). Gutters are looking good (over a year later) and made it through the #Windpocalypse2015 with no issues (and our neighborhood had telephone poles snapping like toothpicks). They actually really sold us on their installation system (they use the strongest hangers in the industry with a hidden two inch screw). The whole deal cost us $1115.26. Not bad. read more

About 12 years ago we had seamless gutters and gutter toppers put on our house by Carefree Gutters. We live in a pine grove and were assured the gutter toppers would work. Well they didn't!! We have just had Blacks put new seamless gutters on our house. We were advised that the length of the house is such that you cannot use just one gutter - it has to be split so it drains properly. They also corrected a problem where the roof has several levels coming in together and it never drained correctly and made the porch wet when it rained. We also had them install Dome Gutter toppers. These make sense - they fit all the way across the gutter and there is a mesh screen that goes over the gutter allowing the water to go into the gutter but preventing the pine needles from going into the gutter. The fellows installing the gutters were friendly and very efficient. Kent Wheeler, the owner, was very prompt when we had an appointment, explained why we had the problems we had and answered all our questions to our satisfaction. We highly recommend them. read more
