Received an "Explanation of Benefits" indicating that Loren Cook was "in Network". Subsequent service by "Samuel Wolfe" was identified on EOB as "Out of Network"! Dr Wolfe and the technician who cleaned my teeth were professional and competent, but would not recommend the office for their "bait and switch" tactics. By the way, after many calls and complaints about their complicated and incorrect billing, they "terminated" me as a patient. Interestingly, when I complained that Dr Wolfe was "out of network" despite their initial assurances that the office accepted my insurance, I was told that Dr Wolfe does accept my insurance at "other offices", just not theirs. Stay away!

I offered to pay out of pocket and they still would not give me the appointment once they learned I had Medicaid. I have been trying to get a Medicaid covered dental cleaning for my son for 2 1/2 years, but none of their network dentists will accept him as a patient. I gave up and just scraped up payment and paid a non-Medicaid dentist out of pocket so his teeth wouldn't rot. Nice ethics, Cook Dentistry. Get off the network if you aren't going to live up to your claim to be a Medicaid dentist.

I think they don't care because frankly there is not a lot of competition in this area. But be careful not all of their dental hygienists know what they are doing. Most recently I went in for a routine cleaning and instead of my usual dental hygienist Alex Simpson. The entire time I was there she kept changing her grip, her hand kept shaking, and she kept hitting my gums and causing pain. Twice she pulled my lip with her water pick. Fortunately, it didn't get stuck so there was no damage. Eventually I asked her to stop midway. I was sure she will injure me. I asked her to get the doctor to so that he can just do the medical checkup. He indirectly defended her by claiming that my gums are just sensitive because there is build up between the gums and the teeth. Now I don't believe this explanation because in over 20 years of going to a dentist I have never experienced this. Furthermore, the office would not give me the hygienist's license number so I could file a complaint. First they claimed that they are not allowed to give it out. Then they claimed that they weren't even allowed to have it. Not sure if either of these things are true. Looks like the time is ripe for a new dentist to move into this area.

Dr Munz with The Denture Center is a wonderful and knowledgeable dentist. When you first go in you…read moreare greeted by name and the staff is very friendly and professional. When I first called for an appointment I told the receptionist that I have a phobia about dentists and haven't been to one in years. Dr Munz asked if I needed anything to calm me down before I came in. I didn't take anything. They do the xrays where you just stand there and a machine takes all the xrays. No more prices of film jammed in your mouth! Dr Muntz then came in and asked if I was in pain anywhere and how I was holding up. He then explained a treatment plan for what I needed. I could choose what I wanted done. Previously I had found a coupon for free xrays and consultation from another dentist in Blacksburg. I went there and got the xrays and consultation. They wanted $7,00.00 for the work I needed done. I went to Dr Munz for a second opinion and his figure was $1600.00 I asked how come he was so much cheaper (I was afraid of getting burnt by choosing the lower cost). He explained that in the other dental place they were in a brand new building in a higher rent setting, offered you coffee, other beverages and snacks before you saw the dentist and other goodies. I'm so happy I went with Dr Munz, I go back often to finish up my dental problems. They even got me in as an emergency on Jan 2nd since I had an absessed tooth. My family and I will never go to another dentist as long as Dr Munz is there. By the way, the "free coupon" I had for the other dentist wasn't eligible since I didn't have any work done and the charged my insurance company $$$ for the consultation and xrays. Be sure to read the fine print when you are offered a "free consultation"!

I called and told them something needed to be done and was told it would take care of itself. Today I have little bumps all over my gums covering the bones with one fairly good sized one right in the middle up top. I never recieved one follow up call or offer to help with my problem. I think of this quack every time I put my dentures in and how much I regret going here for my dental work. If they are on tv trying to get patients avoid them a good dentist, doctor, or lawyer doesn't need to advertise on tv.

He was supposed to fill all of the cavities on one side of my daughters mouth but he made an assumption (without confirming with us or our orthodontist) and left one cavity in a tooth that MIGHT be extracted if my daughter chose to get braces at a later date. The problem is we never confirmed that she would be getting braces as she is 20 years old and her teeth are relatively straight. SOOO now, she has to go back, be numbed again, and get the one filling done. Not only is this expensive as we are paying out of pocket, BUT it also costs my daughter time and the physical discomfort of being numbed again. To make this matter absolutely unacceptable, Dr. Bass has not spoken with us about this even though i have asked his staff twice to ask him to call. Perhaps he is so successful that he doesn't need to concern himself with a follow up? But paying hard earned money to a business owned by someone who is too busy to care is not cool. There are PLENTY of skilled dentists in the NRV... and perhaps they will appreciate and respect us enough to communicate well. You've been warned.
