Great haircut. Nice staff and shop dog! We happened upon this shop and took a chance and my husband is so happy with his haircut.

I drove all the way from weirs beach found this barbershop when I walked in theyre was no one they're and the lady who looked like she hated her life told me she couldn't cut my hair because they were booked who ever owns this place needs to hire better employees because she is making you lose money I would never recommend this place to anyone read more

Wonderful barbershop. Love the way this shop is decorated - clean & simple - from the wood flooring, tin ceiling, antique barber chairs; this place has a great feel to it. Three barbers on duty very professional. Great sign in system on an iPad when you enter. My son was extremely happy with his barber and his haircut; he was really made to feel comfortable and at home and the listened to what he wanted & gave him a incredible haircut that he is real happy with. Originally he didn't even want a haircut, but really liked this experience. I wanted to get a shave & a haircut at an old-school barber & show my son what that is like. Looks like they do a good job. But dont know! Went on my lunch break and waited for 40min. And the 2 gentlemen barbers still were only halfway done with pretty simple cuts! I had to leave back to work. Its ashame. I prob wont go back and definitely cant recommend them. read more

I don't mind waiting but expect to be taken within my appointed time. Instead, I went in person to register as they asked and was told which hairdresser to sign up for because she would be done in about an hour and that I would get a text. About an hour later I got the text and went to the shop. After waiting for about 30 more minutes, the hairdresser I signed up for finished the cut she was doing... and... announced she was going for lunch and took orders from the other staff as I sat there. It was now 3 hours since I signed up. I left, found a barber nearby and was finished by the time these folks bothered to text me again. Poor organization at staff level. read more

I was in the area for work and needed a cut bad. I walked in this place with no appointment. Had to sign in on a tablet they had and waited. They have a rule of no cell phone use inside. Which is nice cause you don't want to hear other people conversation. Shop was clean and guys were cool. Definitely recommend! read more

I was visiting the area when I had some time to kill, I decided to get a haircut, way over due. Yelped barbers, this came up with glowing reviews. Stepped into a piece of history for me, 3 old school barber chairs, row of seats facing the chairs, magazines, an appropriate sign requesting you turn off your media device, nice! Bree said she could give a cut as soon as she walked her dog, i said no worries. Bree gets me in the chair and says my hair has a lot of energy, polite way to say uncontrollable. She asked my input and I gave what I would like to see. Bree is a barber that can look a mass of hair and carve it into a masterpiece. She knew the techniques to let my hair lay flat and controlled. We had a great conversation and haircut. Sometimes it is nice to find really true artisans in their field. Needless to say I told everyone I was visiting in the area what a treasure they had in town. Of course with the enthusiasm I showed I feel assured that Bree and cohorts will be busier. Stopped in here for my first time and I'm happy I did. They hook up a magnificent hair cut! I would recommend this place to anyone in the area because you don't usually find barbershops this good, this far north. Very old school and done right, also, they make recommendations instead of letting you have to make all the decisions of how you want your hair cut yourself. Stumbled upon this place by accident and so glad I did. There is a famous antique shop my girlfriend wanted to visit around the corner and I happened to see this shop. Despite our walking in there 5 minutes before closing, the barber was more than happy to shave me. it had been over 10 years since I had a barber shop straight razor shave that I wasn't too impressed with. It was a close shave but I felt like the experience was lacking. Nothing special I thought. The old school look of this place was apparent from the sidewalk and convinced me to investigate. I figured I should try a straight razor shave again and if I didn't like it, well I'd wait another 10 years before I tried it again. My barber was Tyler and courteously introduced himself and directed me to a chair. He also made sure my girlfriend was comfortable where she would wait. I sat down and took in my surroundings. This place was old school. The barber chairs were not the typical salon chairs. The cash register is a manual style from maybe turn of the century. Even the ceiling appeared to be original pressed tin. The shave was probably the most pampering I had ever allowed myself to have. The shave included numerous preparatory steps designed to condition the skin to be soft and ready to be shaven. Tyler massaged lotion on to my face and had hot towels draped across it numerous times. Every lotion/cream smelled great and the actual shave itself was smooth and not abrasive. At times I closed my eyes and thought that I could fall asleep while Tyler shaved me. The shave was finished with yet more moisturizing lotions and then an aftershave that was produced in the barber shop itself made with spices, rum and a few other things I cant remember. One of the best aftershaves I ever had. My face felt great at the end of it all, no burn, smooth all the way around, no cuts and to top it all off, I even got a facial massage. Now this was the type of old school straight razor shave I had always read about. One of the best and most comfortable shaves in my life, I could myself getting one before a special occasion where I needed to dress up or when I feel like pampering myself. It cost me $25 without tip. Well worth it and a place to remember the next time I am in the area. read more

I was shocked by how rude, arrogant and unhelpful the staff at this barbershop was. I called around noon on a Saturday and asked if I could bring in my son to get his hair cut. The response was "Sure, come on in, we're open until 2". No mention of needing to make an appointment. We got there around around 1:15 and were directed to a computer terminal in the entrance to make an appointment. When I put my name in the computer said it would be an hour and a forty-five minute wait. I asked about this and was told, "that's right, we'll send you a text when you have five minutes to go." I confirmed that we had time to get lunch and we left. After not quite an hour when we were finishing lunch I got the 5 minute warning text (45 minutes early). I quickly paid up, texted that we were on our way, and rushed back but it took us ten minutes to get back. Not only did they refuse to cut my son's hair, they said it was our fault for not being there within five minutes, even though the warning came 45 minutes early, for which the computer was blamed. And no, there was nothing they were going to do about it and there was no apology because apparently everything was my fault. I guess I just wasn't a hipster like the guys in the shop and so could be treated like dirt. Don't ever go here! read more

I was visiting friends in Wolfeboro--but very much in need of a haircut. Since I was new to the area I had apprehension about a new barber so turned to Yelp for suggestions. Drove all the way to Laconia based on recommendations about Polished and Proper barbershop. I received haircut from Brie-- the shop owner-- and was pleasantly surprised. Worst Haircut EVER!!! I decided I needed a haircut last week while I was on vacation, so I did some research on Yelp and chose this place because of the 9 great reviews. Without getting into the details about why this is the worst haircut I've ever had, I will share that my family convinced me to go to another hair stylist the next day to see if they could fix my terrible cut. This is a quote from the hairstylist that did the best she could to fix the damage. "In all of my years of cutting hair, this is the worst haircut I've ever seen". Enough said. I'm hoping I can save some other poor soul from making the same mistake that I did. read more

Rock solid barber shop. Great cut with all the niceties - hot lather, reasonable amount of time spent on each customer, inviting environment, friendly staff. Chloe the welcoming pupper doesn't hurt either, and prices are super reasonable. iPad for check-in, including texting if the line is long, is awesome, especially with Wayfarer Coffee nearby. Love the haircut but the last 2 Times here the wait was quoted at 13 mins and i waited 50 the first time and 72 mins the next time and when i mentioned it they were like oh well. The barbers seem to spend more time talking to each other than actually cutting hair. Very disappointed in the fact that they have no concern for their customers time. Not just the best barber shop in the area... The best I've ever been to. The staff is awesome, they know their stuff and will hook you up. $16 for a haircut and I'd pay twice that if that's what their price was. Unlike Hair Excitement or other chains who just fly through a haircut and kick you out the door Polished and Proper takes their time, gets the cut right and you leave satisfied. First time in I asked for them to clean it up and my haircut came out different than I normally get it but it was way better than I had expected. Only negative is that you can't just call in and make a reservation, you have to show up and wait and the cut will take 25-30 minutes instead of the 10 min in and out from some places. That's totally worth it to me. Old school barbershop feel and I promise you will be satisfied when you leave. Those guys are wizards with a straight razor, worth every penny! read more
