I was so excited to finally get my hair done after a horrible experience at another salon almost a year ago. I'm a single mom with a stressful job, so this was a treat I was really looking forward to. I was referred by a friend to a specific stylist (with the highest fee) at Scout and booked an appointment. After waiting a month, I received a text message 24 hours before my appointment (not a call, a text) stating that the stylist wouldn't be in and that they could schedule me with a much less experienced stylist (with no mention of price difference) at a completely different time (that didn't work with my schedule on 24hr-notice). After checking their website, it's clear that my original stylist no longer works there. No clue how long they knew about this before finally contacting me. I'm leaving for vacation next week and now I can't get my hair done. To say this was an extremely disappointing experience is an understatement. Honestly, who does something like this via text? Danielle has been coloring and styling my hair for years. She has always been focused on my satisfaction, even if sometimes I don't know exactly what I want, She makes great suggestions and really cares about how I look when I walk out. I have been thinking about going 'natural' and she gave me several options on how we could do that over time. When we tried one of them, I decided that I'm definitely not ready to be grey, and just like that, my beautiful blond is back! I'm also excited about the skin salon that they just opened around the corner. Have had 2 facials there with Stephanie and what a great job she did both times. Coming to this salon will leave you extremely unhappy and broke. Danielle, one of the two owners, doesn't care about true client satisfaction, but rather the amount of money she is profiting from their horrendous, bellow pare services. I saw Olivia Walker for a new extension install with inspiration photos provided to her. Sadly, the wrong color of the extension was ordered and made my inspo very unachievable. Hours after the initial install appointment which Olivia was confident they would match my inspo hair, I notified the salon that I didn't I didn't have a seamless blend and many others also noticed. My hair that lays above the top weft was a completely different shade of blonde and didn't match the extensions. After the Salon was going to allow me to walk around with an unblended head of hair that cost me $1,078 until they were able to get me I demanded to be seen. Olivia and Cori then tried to "fix" the problem that night and left my hair as yellow as a banana, if not yellower. I left in so disbelief that my hair was fried and yellow (defeats the purpose of extensions) I then had to complain for a second time. At my next appointment Danielle, Olivia, and a new stylist Lyndsey then tried to put their "brain power" all to figure out how they would fix the "fix". I explained and showed Danielle that my inspo pictures are all very rooted and have dimensional (lived in blonde) and that I typically have two wefts that are rooted & blonde and a row of dimension (brown) Danielle offered to have my extensions low-lighted. If this salon knew anything about extensions, extensions are never to be lifted or deposited with color this will ultimately lessen their life expectancy. I argued with Danielle that the extensions ordered were so far from the inspo shade and were way more golden and yellow in tone than the inspo pictures (ashy blonde). She had Olivia and the assistant stylist add in some low lights to my natural hair and tone my hair and extensions. Toners are not permanent and only give you an illusion that your hair is that tone until you wash and put heat to it over time. Before you know it yellow and gold tones will be right back. Danielle, decided that it would be best to have a new set of extension ordered and installed to better fit what I asked for. She still insisted a row of dimension was not necessary and refused to listen to me, although she does not install or do extensions. She picked out a new color that she felt would be a better match. At this point in time Olivia no longer felt comfortable taking me as a client and I was switched to another stylist Alexianna. When I came into the salon to switch to the new hair, they took the old extensions out and toned my natural hair which was extremely yellow still. When it was time to install the new ones, Alexianna noticed that they were actually in fact far more golden than what I had in and were not yet again anything close to my inspo and were the incorrect blonde and had no dimension to obtain my inspo. After arguing with Danielle who refused to listen, she said that I leave without any extensions in and be refunded because "she couldn't make me happy." I refused to leave a salon without extensions in as I am an extension addict and have worn them consecutively for four years. Alexianna, installed the old extensions back in and actually cut a large portion of my extension off rather than folded the ends of it, which has now left limited options to place the weft as it is extremely short and doesn't go around my entire head. This salon is not trained in extensions properly and the amount of damage they did to not only my natural hair, but to my wallet is actually disturbing. I went to a new salon who specializes in extensions and she and her co-workers were blown away by how much money I spent, how unblended and yellow my hair was, and how much of my weft was cut off, and how far away from my inspo picture I was. I would never recommend this salon to anyone and believe they are extremely incompetent in this service. Hopefully, Danielle and Cori enjoyed the profit they made as I had to pay a lot of money to have a correction done at a different salon and am now stuck with hair that is damaged and wrong extension color that I will have to maintain to blend. Wow. Just wow. The person who cut my hair retired during the pandemic and I was a bit stressed about finding someone else. Fast forward to Cori at Scout. She's a top-notch professional and the salon is great, offering Vermont hospitality and the kind of quality you'd expect in a big city. I've been very pleased with the cuts I've gotten and they passed the all-important spousal approval test! I also appreciate the responsiveness to queries and booking requests. Scout is popular, so be aware that you may have to wait, but they're very quick to respond via phone or text. One of the qualities of the spa I really appreciated was how they handled Covid protocols during the pandemic. Things seem to have eased up a bit now, but they were very careful with scheduling and distancing workstations, as well as cleanliness. Another clear sign of professionalism. read more

Thank you thank you thank you Scout Hair Design for saving my ratty hair during the pandemic!! I hadn't gotten a cut in over 8 months when I rolled in here with my split ends. I was able to easily make an appointment by calling. They were friendly and nice. They have a Covid policy in place which involves getting your temperature taken when you walk in the door, which is actually reassuring, and everyone - employee and customer alike - wears a mask. You can still get basic services, like a hair-washing, and all the normal services like cuts and colors. My stylist was sweet and helpful. Really appreciated the service, care, and normalcy here. I went to Scout for the first time yesterday. It is a fabulous salon. I have short hair with highlights but had let it grown out into somewhat of a mess. I have a specific, symmetrical cut I like to get and brought along photos of previous cuts I've had. Mary, the stylist who worked with me, was great--friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. We talked in-depth about the cut I wanted. She also spent time figuring out what colors to mix to get the shade we both thought would look good. I really appreciate all the time she spent planning before breaking out the foil and scissors. The salon itself is very pretty and relaxing. It has high ceilings and plenty of room between chairs. I really wanted to love this salon because I like Aveda products. I read up on the stylists' backgrounds and they seem to have a lot of experience. Unfortunately, I've come away extremely unhappy after every experience there. I've seen two different stylists for color and it's never come out how I envisioned (and showed pictures). I clearly stated that I wanted cool tones--no warm, no copper, no red. But the gradient from root to highlight came out reddish copper every time. I would gladly pay a lot if I left loving my hair but that's never happened here. Not returning. I saw Danielle & Jenn for color. They are all nice people, but thumbs down on the services. What's more, on my last visit they charged me an extra $25 on top of $180 in services for shampoo and towel-dry! Who does that?!? Check your receipt before leaving. We recently moved here from Texas and I've used the same person for 6 years so it's always a little nerve wracking finding a new stylist! I decided to get a cut and eyebrow wax with Emily and it was THE BEST decision ever. I walked in with hair that hadn't been touched in 6 months and eyebrows that were 1 year overdue for help...and Emily worked her magic and I walked out feeling incredible. She has a calm, friendly confidence and puts you at ease from the beginning. She listened to what I wanted, took her time, had great attention to detail, and even excitement for me as she looked at her work! She styled my hair beautifully... like, I normally don't ever like how someone else styles my hair after a cut and I left wishing I could never wash my hair to keep the curls she did! Ha!
