Took the Oregon/Utah/Arizona class 1/20/19. I had an Oregon CHL many, many years ago and the material for the legalities hasn't changed all that much, but I still learned a few things that I had either forgotten, or may have changed since I last held a valid CHL. Now I'm ready to send in all of my paperwork to get those balls rolling. If you have need of a CHL, or even desire one I would highly recommend taking your class with these folks. Some of the material may not be all that exciting to read/hear about, but they do make sure people understand the material and of course add just a little bit of levity to break up the monotony of some of the drier aspects of the information. Steve also made sure to stress the important facts, especially when it comes to firearm safety. You can never be too cautious when working with a firearm and I applaud their efforts to teach people important information. If you do decide to take one of their classes, make sure if you don't completely understand the immediate topic to ask your questions. Steve made sure to take the time to go over any questions that were asked so that the person asking the question felt they had a sufficient understanding before he moved on to the next piece of information. read more

I just completed the Gun Safety class on 11/18/2017 taught by Dan Blackstone and his team. I must admit that I expected far less from the class that Dan presented. Dan was very engaging, open and honest about his journey and accomplishments and informative about how to extend gun ownership knowledge. I bought a Canik MC9 from Blackstone Guns and have an issue with the manufacturing of the barrel, but trying to explain simple physics to these people is impossible, they can not understand the simple concept of this. I have a laser bullet that I use in my Canik Rival, Canik Rival-S and S&W competitor. The bullet hits exactly where my laser beam would hit on a target at 7 yards, with this MC9, that laser impact is almost 12" off the bullet impact point at 7 yards, this shows the barrel at some point between where the bullet sits in the chamber and the end of the barrel, the barrel is not straight due to manufacturing (or the barrel is distorted). They seem to think just because the impact point is repeatable that the gun is perfect?? They even managed to put a small nick on my slide that they never even apologized for. Talk about lack of integrity? Wow, wish there was someone working there today that understood physics of the simplest degree...So I am stuck with a defective gun that I will need to send to Canik as Blackstone is unwilling to help with this matter. read more

This was my first time at a gun safety class (though I was taught gun safety at an early age). Lots of required info and a long day of it. Dan & Co did a nice job of making it interesting, relevant, and informative. Didn't go into much depth on some of the nuances of the legal and moral questions... but that wasn't the purpose of this course. Questions were answered thoughtfully as time allowed. Also, I learned a few things about gun malfunctions I had not seen before. Blackstone made it easy to do multiple licensures with very clear instructions and 1 on 1 assistance to ensure application success. Took OR, UT, and AZ same day. Blackstone Gun Safety class was an exceptional class with excellent presentations of relevant information on such things as proper handling of guns, gun safety, tips and techniques of handling and using guns, and gun laws. The class was very entertaining with numerous real life examples of what not to do with a gun. The seriousness of having a gun, as well as, the mental aspects of dealing with situations involving guns was emphasized throughout the class. This was my second class taken with Blackstone and it was a great refresher. I would recommend Dan's team as competent talented gun professionals with super presentation skills. The support team that goes with Dan did a fantastic job of preparing our paperwork, and they too were very competent and knowledgeable on gun safety and certification procedures. If you plan on having a gun in your home or carrying a gun this is a must take class. A periodic refresher is time well spent, especially when considering the seriousness of the topic. read more
