Super fun resort! It's very old school but an awesome place to visit for the day or with a biker friend in your life. There are bars all over. An indoor bar, an outdoor tiki bar, backyard bars. It's really cool. There are also lakes and a swimming pool for when it's super hot like it was this past weekend when we went. We came here for a motorcycle event & had a really good time. The indoor bar had live music and strong drinks. The drinks were served in a big soup container for $15. Not bad for how much you're getting. The bar also had a menu with pretty good food. I was so hungry I didn't get a picture but I tried the chicken and cheese quesadilla and onion rings. Really tasty. The overall vibe was really awesome & everyone is super friendly around. We didn't stay here overnight but a few of our friends did & loved the experience. I'd deff come back! read more

While the events and entertainment was great and would totally recommend. The room we stayed in was not up to par. We entered a room without any towels and the sheets were def not cleaned. They were all wrinkled, dirt and grass inside the sheets, being too late to call the main office we were forced to sleep on the top of the bed. read more

Since electricity and a working toilet are non negotiable when I am paying for a room, this place failed to meet my standards. The Tara rooms are terrible. Supposedly the upstairs rooms have been updated, but all they did was replace carpet with laminate floors. The carpet in the downstairs rooms carries the smell of mold and smoke. The rooms are not clean, the bathroom in particular has seen better days. The toilet needs to be flushed multiple times to clear visible debris. The refrigerator in our room didn't work and smelled awful; to their credit, they did bring another one. But when the electricity when out in the middle of the night no one was at the front desk to answer and a fridge needs power. Suggest you don't make our mistake. read more

I was here once visiting my in-laws who have a site and had a nice time. The resort is very big with lots to do, different than all other camps I've been to. It's nothing like a jellystone or KOA campground - which are more updated and geared towards families and kids. Blackthorne in my opinion is tailored for adults - A few bars, restaurants, concerts. Very quirky decorations which is fun. And many of the regulars have amazing set ups on their sites. read more

Attended a large function that was held at this venue. There were several hundred people here. The bathrooms are un- kept and basically disgusting. Did not stay overnight in their lodging area, however our friends did and said it was in the $300 a night range. We took a look at the breakfast buffet offerings and decided to pass, so you are on your own with that. Too bad they don't go a little further with the upkeep of the facility. read more

This place was so convenient if you were playing a round of golf at Thunderheart golf course.. We were greeted by Gerry she is very sweet. She let us check in early so we could make our 12 o'clock tee time. Although we did not eat there, they do have a dining room and a grill. You can have a quick bite to eat after your round of golf. They also serve breakfast in the morning where we did have coffee. There is also a large room with an assortment of games like darts and foosball and I think there was a pool table. The place was clean and well kept. But it is on the older side. It does have a built-in pool which was being cleaned and prepped and getting ready for the warmer weather. read more

This place is basically a family resort with the emphasis on "basic". I was in the area for a week long music fest and there weren't many options due to the late start by the organizers. The Blackthorne is a fixture in the area and a family owned business. But it obviously has seen better days. I wasn't expecting a five star accommodation but I've had fishing cabins that were less Spartan. The plus is that its great for glamping and the area is rather picturesque. It has a pretty neat pool with a "Tiki" bar. And for people who have rooms they have *** breakfast and dinner with a couple of entree choices. However, I can't recommend the Blackthorne in its present state It really needs a serious facelift. read more

I wish I had read yelp reviews prior to booking this campground. Actually, my boyfriend booked this - a friend of his plays in a band and they are playing here this weekend. First of all, you can't make a reservation (Hate that!) You show up and pay, then they take you around in a golf cart and you can pick a spot. We paid for full hookups (water, sewer, electric (we need 50amp)) The only decent spot available to fit our 40' rig was a spot right along a road. Not great, but ok. Come to find out - NO water, NO sewer and only 30 amp. Ok... we will try to make due with less power (than we paid for) and noisy road. Thank goodness we are only sleeping here. The grounds themselves are eh... showers and bathrooms but from the outside not looking so clean. I can tell you there is absolutely NO social distancing going on here. No one (except the girl at the office) wears a mask. I mean no one. I would never book this location again. It's off our list. We've stayed at state parks with more... better location and views and even water. Don't waste your time coming here. read more

Beware of the campers. I purchased a campsite in 2020 and in 2022 brought my now ex bf there to share the experience with me. Since then, he has lied to the owners and campers, and they have allowed him to continue using my camper and site without so much as a phone call asking me about it. They let him do whatever he wants (wonder why) and allow him to use a camper that he did not pay for and fraudulently got a duplicate from the previous owner signing it over to himself.. they continue to ignore and allow him to use it. Dilapidated, run down, neglected. I booked a room for 4 nights but I left after 3. All the buildings are in desperate need of renovation. That "Rustic Charm" only goes so far! All the buildings are sagging and the rain gutters are so full of debris that there are weeds growing out of them. My friends stayed in a room that had only one electrical outlet. Everything, refrigerator, television, microwave and air conditioner, was plugged into that one outlet! No wonder they had a fire a few years ago! They had a magician performing one night in the bar. I was there with some friends and there were some Trailer Trash, (seasonal renters living in RV's at the Blackthorne), seated at the bar. They were loud and obnoxious. The magician asked them a few times to keep the noise down so that he could do his act but they couldn't be bothered to be polite. Finally, I asked one of them seated next to me if he could "keep it down". He said "No", and then he made a steady stream of insults directed at me. Finally, after the magic show ended, I got up to leave and the bum next to me called me a douchebag. I gave him the one-finger salute as I was exiting and he followed me outside and wanted to fight me! I asked him if he was 11 or 12 years old and that seemed to stop him cold. Too dumb to understand. I left the next day and I will never be back. The only thing that I can do is to try to keep other vacationers from wasting their time at this dump. read more

When I went to the front desk and asked for cups for coffee they had no idea coffee pots were in the room. Weird. Stains on towels and bedding. Hairs on bathroom floor. Stains in fridge. Just returned from an amazing Memorial Day weekend here. This place blew me away. It is a beautiful, clean, and friendly resort with hidden treasures everywhere (hint:find the Honey Tree for a shot!). The owners obviously take great pride in this place...the little details are amazing. The restaurant was great. The bar is open late and always buzzing. And the live music was incredible! Only have one star because the bar food was decent. Used to be a family-themed resort for many years but seems to only cater to bikers and RV campers. Rooms were semi-inhabitable, but definitely needed some TLC. Spiders, loose toilet and no WiFI coverage are just the start. Notified that check-in was 4pm and arrived around that time. Rooms were still not ready for another hour. Pool and tiki bar were decent but place was a ghost town. Not much to do up there, since most places are closed or abandoned. Save yourself the trouble and drive two more hours to Lake George. Much nicer and plenty to do. read more

First and for most this is a biker hang out with lots of drinking lots of loud motorcycles , lots of loud partying and loud bands at night. This is not a family friendly environment no matter what they try to tell you. All the buildings, all the Decour and everything about this place is out of date, old rotten and falling apart. They have permanent residents that stay here who think they're the resort police! You actually have full-time residence living there that will harass you like they are the police. Worst room I ever had. It was too expensive for what I needed, and it failed to meet any minimum standard. The owner was inconsiderate and unreasonable. They felt entitled to my money since they already had it. My stay was supposed to be 2 nights but the first night had no heat or hot water. I took a cold shower and then went to sleep in a cold room. I left immediately in the morning and obviously did not not stay the second night. Patty refunded 1/2 my stay but Blackthorne Resort actually gave me nothing of value. Please go to any other hotel/motel and you will get heat, hot water, and treated like your health and safety matter. read more

I arrived at the hotel and went into the reception office and paid for my week. Stay at the resort I asked for a site map, they did not have one instead someone showed me the size. It was about half a mile away from the office. I had to go back to the office to find out where the toilets were when I was told all the toilets were closed down temporarily for work, so I could not use them that was the start of my nightmare in this place. I cannot for the life of me figure out who would give this place a positive review. We just stayed here for a week and my whole family was so happy to leave. First, during COVID 19 don't expect to see any sort of social distancing or mask wearing enforced here. The lady at the front desk wore a mask and that was it. Not the cleaning staff, grounds staff, no one else, and tons of families all packed into the pool and tiki bar like there's no pandemic happening. And our room was filthy even when we checked in. I had brought cleaning wipes and Lysol and did my best to sanitize everything, including the remote bolted to the nightstand. We never ate here because I didn't want to chance it honestly. Overall, just filthy and gross. I worry for the poor animals there, the sweet goats did appear to have fresh food at least. As for the other reviews posted about racist attitudes here, I am not at all surprised, one look at the business's Facebook page will tell you all you need to know about that. This is a beautiful family fun resort that made myself and my friends feel incredibly welcome. The staff was receptive and polite, the atmosphere was wonderful and the rooms were very clean. I'd recommend this resort to anyone looking for a nice place in the Catskills area to get away to or have an event big or small. I am really torn between leaving a three star review and a five. I suppose a four is sufficient at this moment. I came here for the Irish festival for two nights. My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time for a short weekend getaway. The staff was very kind, and accommodating! I loved the tea service during dining hours. So much to do at the resort. I live in New York City. Being able to getaway, go to the mountains, at a reasonable cost is always a great thing! CONS: 1) I was extremely disappointed with the rooms. I met other people at the resort that had newly renovated rooms for the same price. Our shower was misting (felt like I was in Ireland walking through the dewy fields). Not to mention, there was a yellow, molded mat at the bottom of the tub. I needed to lay out paper and wear flip flops! The rooms were smelly, towels were not all white (do they even bleach them?), and I inspected the mattress and pillowcases (VERY YELLOW!!!!), and things/liquids were leaking from the ceiling above my bed, sofa chairs were dirty. When you pay a certain amount for two nights, you expect to have a sufficient shower experience, and clean pillows. I JUST WANT A CLEAN HOTEL ROOM? Is that a lot to ask for? It's not like I paid $69 a night. 2) I feel badly for the peacock that is outside in a confined space. It seems very inhumane. Perhaps they should give him a larger space, or clip his feathers so he can walk around the property. 3) it was IMPOSSIBLE to have tea during the day if it wasn't during dining hours. Once again I got screwed over, I went specific to see the wall of death they have signs all over they say it's going to be there it was not there I brought people with me I spent a lot of money I saw bikes and there was vendors and it's $25 a pop and everything else is à la cart. I wanted to take the time to review our groups recent Labor Day weekend stay here. We normally stay at a resort not too far from here but they had to close early in our planned week due to COVID related exposures. As a result we had no place to go to finish our much needed vacation. We were a group of 40 folks who just wanted to spend the rest of our time together. I reached out and got the most welcoming response from this place in taking on our group with one days notice ! Patti and her team here are awesome ! She makes you feel like an old friend ! Was the place fancy no.. but we did not expect fancy .. we are used to the rustic vibe. The food was absolutely amazing !! They have food all day & night as well at their tiki bar and main bar also delicious !! Every type of drink you can think up !! Who has frozen drinks all day and night long ??!! They had a live auction one day that we enjoyed. They have a great pool area. They had a mechanical bull one night that was very cool! I will say no one at the resort bothered us at all. Were there people there that rode motorcycles ? Yes and majority did. But they were all respectful and nice. They have live music in the bar every night of very good quality. It was loud, but they have a huge outdoor seating area outside where you can still hear the band but talk as well. Is it kid friendly during the day. Yes. Like a few others, wish I had read these reviews before we went, although I'm very concerned for the people who said they "had a great time". They must vacation in 3rd world countries if they think this place is nice. For over $600 for 2 nights (included breakfast/dinner), my expectations are pretty high and to say the website is misleading would be a giant understatement. First, if you aren't a smoker, you should absolutely pass. Everywhere we went (including the pillows) smell like smoke. The "housekeeping" woman riding around in golf cart with a butt hanging out of her mouth explains the bedding, but seriously everywhere else we went, especially by the pool, is saturated with cigarette/cigar smoke. Ash trays on the tables-is it 1985? At Blackthorne, yes it is. The room smelled terrible-mildew and stale smoke. Visible holes in the roof from the outside. Full size beds are unacceptable for two adults. Thankfully, I also asked for a cot for one of our kids to have a little more space. "Bedspreads" were paper thin and also from 1985. Just a general feeling of dirtiness in the room-cobwebs, dust, etc. One of our rooms had an old style TV and shower was like rusty daggers. At least the AC was cold-although it was so old, I was afraid to touch it. First night around 7 pm all of the sudden the power goes out. You think they would drive around letting people know what's going on? Asking way too much of these employees. One of our group walked over to the office and was told that "they're working on it, it'll be fine". It was going to be 100 degrees the next day, so sorry, without the AC, it was most certainly not going to be fine. As we contemplated how long we'd wait before demanding a refund and leaving, it came back on after about 2 hours. They also advertise "fireworks every Tuesday". No fireworks on the Tuesday we're there, so when we ask we are told that yes, fireworks every Tuesday, but not tonight (which was Tuesday). Clientele is mostly smoky trash people and from what we could tell, they're all seasonal campers. Not that many people eating in the dining room and the ones we did encounter were just as disappointed by the whole thing as we were. Feral kids by the pool bothering us the whole time (and constantly almost drowning since they were unsupervised), but everyone else seemed to know each other, so nothing could be done. The one positive, which shocked everyone, was the food. It was actually pretty good, even the "tiki bar" by the pool. We paid WAY too much to eat offsite, so it was a relief to at least have edible food. The one exception was the kid's choice of pizza (2 nights in a row, although one server said they usually don't do that, lucky us). The pizza was undercooked, frozen garbage. When kids who eat any pizza say they don't like it, you know it's bad. Moral of the story is do not stay at the Blackthorne. You will regret it. read more

Just attended their very first Murder Mystery Weekend and had a fantastic time! I loved the interaction with the other guests. I loved that you had to go and talk to everyone to get the information you needed to solve the murder. In this day and age of technology, it was refreshing to have some good old fashioned contact with people. The hosts at Blackthorne put together a marvelous weekend with their Friday night international buffet, their Saturday afternoon cocktail hour with open bar! Inconceivable! Who does that? Blackthorne that's who! Saturday night dinner and murder unveiling was great! Food is always great. Breakfasts are phenomenal. Entertainment is ALWAYS top notch! read more

We were assigned to the "Brefini" building and let me tell you, it was abominable! Atrocious! Flat out disgusting and falling apart! It was like something you would see in a movie with dirty cracked out whores and pimps ‍ Definitely some health and safety hazards there. You got a nice whiff of some good old mold and mildew as soon as you opened the door. The floor felt like you were about to fall right through it and the bed?! I'm pretty sure that bed was standing on it's last splinter. The mattress, just light a match ‍ I guess our first red flag should have been the hearse right outside of our door But in all sincerity, the owner's should be ashamed of themselves for even considering this building to be acceptable sleeping quarters. That building definitely hasn't seen a bottle of bleach, lysol or a dusting rag in A LONG WHILE. I tried cleaning it myself with disinfectant and even putting on our own set of clean sheets, but it just wasn't enough. We ended up not even spending the night there and booked a CLEAN and solid room down the street at McGrath's. It was like night and day! A bunch of friend's (10+) that we were with for a private event, that were assigned to other buildings, were appalled as well and couldn't sleep there either. They ended up sleeping in friend's campers, friend's houses that had houses nearby, or booking other CLEAN rooms nearby as well. Everyone else unfortunately had no other choice to stay because either they couldn't find anything, or they were from too far away to go back home. They all had issues with either lack of cleanliness and or clogged up overflowing toilets The outside of the property was fine. For our event we cooked and bbq'd all day and night, so we had our own food which was nice. The pool and play areas were all acceptable for the kids and they all had a good time. The tiki bar area was fine and the bartender was very nice and sweet. The bathrooms in the center of the field were absolutely disgusting and toilets all overflowing. The bathrooms and showers to the edge of the field by the campers was tolerable. The lady Cara when calling was always very sweet. The lady at the counter when checking in, looks at you and gives off a vibe like you're bothering her. All in all, IF we ever come back (and that's a BIG IF, because we'll be talking to our parties that we were with), we will NEVER pay for/book another room here again. Outside, the field, the bar, the pool etc., all acceptable/tolerable for the most part. The rooms, NYS DOH should DEFINITELY shut that sh** down, along with building and code enforcement. Definitely check out ALL of the reviews on Google, Yelp, Trip Advisor and Facebook FIRST before making your decision. Oh, and I'm reading reviews that the owner's/management said "they're working on it". This is BEYOND "working on it". The cleaning and maintenance on this place has CLEARLY been neglected for YEARS. I got to spend a few days with great friends and made some new ones along the way by interacting with other guests in this whodunnit Murder Mystery game. Patty and Janine and the rest of the Blackthorne staff put a lot of hard work into making this weekend a success and it most certainly was. But I want to complain about the resorts The staff are very low knowledge of how to deal with customer, they have no idea what they were doing. Food was ok, kids don't like it. Flies everywhere on food on cup...In the room... I mean I like the location but come on, can you guys least make it nicer? And more professional? Everything looks like a last minute installed with ducktape... Ac don't work, night time too cold... DONT STAY HERE ! I have been coming here for years and the place is a DUMP but I kept coming back as my kids love it and have freedom to run around and love the pool. The price they charge to stay here is absurd- I paid $772 for 2 night for 2 adults and 3 kids. We got there and first thing we see is a green filthy pool that hadn't been cleaned and looked like swamp water and foaming. When we complained they actually said the health inspector came and said it was ok to swim in - I should have asked to see the report as any health inspector would have shut it down. Then again when I was leaving and said I was disappointed and kids were extremely disappointed since they had nothing to do they still defended that algae ridden pool instead of saying sorry and giving us a small refund and I would have been fine. I really enjoyed spending some time here! The resort staff is really lovely and considerate, the venue is rustic but clean and the rooms are reasonable. I came here in the off-season but the atmosphere was still nice. Beds were reasonably comfy (a little small) shower had great water pressure and temperature. Feeding the goats on the premise was a riot. The bar had a nice atmosphere as well. Really reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again. read more

We stayed here back in the Fall of 2019. Our "room" (if it can be called that) was like $250+ per night based on double occupancy. The room was dirty. They inexplicably hung a kitchen chandelier between the two double beds instead of a nightstand and lamp, and it was covered in thick layers of dust. There was condensation on the sliding glass doors and the whole room smelled of mildew and rot, like there was a flood and a dead animal had died in the walls. There's no way to lock the sliding glass doors -- you have to use a stick. Yes, that's right. They literally have a stick in the track of the sliding doors as the method for locking them. The jacuzzi tub only worked for 5 minutes. It stopped and we couldn't get the jets to go back on. Funnily enough, the next morning I dropped my toothpaste tube onto the side of jacuzzi and the jets started up again. The TV had wires hanging from it all over. To turn on the TV, you don't just use the remote -- you have to flip a light switch over on the wall, too. It took us a moment to realize this. They have identical wall art hung crookedly above the beds. There was no couch as promised in a "Plan A" room, just a chair and two double beds. This room was supposedly one of the newly renovated rooms, but I have stayed in nicer rooms (for $80 a night!) at roadside motels in the middle of nowhere in PA. A girl stopped by on a go cart to offer us new towels, but only if we returned our soiled towels. My wife was in the bathroom at that exact moment, so I declined and asked her to come back later. Instead, she threw 1 clean towel at me (a tiny towel barely large enough to dry yourself) and said she'd be back for the dirty towels. She never came back. Her attitude was so welcoming and lovely (not). They don't clean the rooms or make the beds. You really get a lot for the $260/night price tag. In the same area as our rooms was a scary door to an abandoned room of some sort that was cracked open at all times with a security camera above it. I'm not sure what that's about, but it was spooky. Everything at this place was dilapidated and depressing. I am speechless that anyone could give this place a positive review for the price of $260 a night. I basically cried when we arrived and I am sorry that we stuck it out and didn't immediately demand a refund. With that said, their food isn't bad. That's literally the only positive thing I can say about this place. BEWARE. read more
