A group of us were meeting about a half mile away and needed a place for all of us to stay for 5 nights and Baumann's Brookside fit the bill, particularly as we were accommodated as the season had ended. The pool and dining areas were closed, but the location was perfect, conveniently located, clean, and comfortable. Get this: there was room service/freshening up every single morning which id not expected as ive been to hotels and motels which charged $200+ per night and only freshen up the room after the 3rd night, but only upon request! I was impressed by this throwback to days of great service! Out children are grown, but i can see this as being a great location for families with young children or as empty testers who want to return to a quieter, simple time of old. The is a swing set, climbing apparatus, outdoor pool as stated, and field for baseball if desired as well as a basketball hoop. Wifi and cable tv are included as is a small fridge.. I met one staffer in passing who was pleasant and welcoming. Did I say the room was clean? The heat worked fine as did the air conditioner. Baumann's Brookside made me nostalgic for my youth in the 1960s and 70s. A concrete step in the rear read " May 1963" which means that the walls in between rooms isn't made out of cardboard like many hotel rooms are nowadays. Memories to be made and relived here. We went here with friends for years. We even brought other families with us in past. It is a simple place, affordable. In recent years we noticed that it seemed to be sliding in quality. We went one year and the paddle boats were not out because of weeds in small lake. Yoga was no longer. Nearby events like go carts closed and there was nothing replacing them. Crafts and events during rain??? Gone. My kids found a rat in the game room two summers ago, and I bring bleach wipes to wipe game room machines down first day we come each time --it's filthy every time. No exaggeration. The pool table was also filthy and stained. They had a kid running the games most years and they acted like typical bored teen. Yet we put up with it (should you need to on vacation?) to see the same people each year. Some who have also stopped coming. Last summer there were a few very cold days and no one could use the pool because it was freezing. I called to ask what the temperature was this year and if would be heated. I was told "how would I know the pool temp.? When it gets below. certain temp the heater kicks on!" When I explained no one was in last year because it wasn't working right she answered, "No that's wrong!" My husband literally called me and showed me pics both days of no one in pool. Then she accused us of "complaining a lot" because I had asked about paddleboats and other amenities in the past. Sorry. I am not THAT person, but a customer is allowed to politely ask questions. It is not the kind of place with a ton to do--you go to see the people you're hanging out with, so if you love to boat and the lake is closed, yes, that's a big deal to some people. I would encourage you to go. See how the family treats you, especially Rosemary. Maybe it will be enough for you. Unless like most first timers who AREN'T going for a family reunion or with a large group, you will be underwhelmed, maybe even frustrated. If you have gone to Pine Lake Manor, right near by, that's more like Baumann's should/used to be. Or a place like Woodloch--more money? Yes! but they try really hard to make a nice time for you and don't berate you for asking about missing/changing amenities. Be sure NOT to ask for more than the minimum. You definitely get what you pay for with Baumann's. Very sad. The older family who built the place and clearly cared once, would be ashamed of how the younger ones have run it down and treat the public. read more

It is hard to add words to what almost every other reviewer has said in the past, that Baumann's is truly the definition of DELIGHTFUL. Having stayed in typical Catskills resorts like The Concord and Villa Roma, and knowing that Baumann's was celebrating their 100 Year Anniversary, I had no expectations that I was about to check into the Ritz or 4 Seasons, but what I got was equally valuable, a TRUE FAMILY RUN RESORT - that has done its best to modernize but has not lost any of the charm and excellence that allowed it flourish for 100 years, while most of its Catskills brethren are long since gone. To anyone reading this that has been to the "typical" Catskills hotel i mentioned, this is a whole different level and something you should experience at least once, if not each and every year It all begins with Carol Baumann, who is every bit of genuine and caring as every other guest has described. She has passed this dedication along to each and every staff member I encountered, everyone seems genuinely happy to be working there and will bend over backwards to make sure each and every guest has a great experience. There were so many little extras that I never expected ad that just made my stay there even more special I cant add many more details than what you already read, the food is both excellent and plentiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and you can do as many or as few activities as you like, there is an Olympic size pool and if the weather is nice, it is a great break, to relax there for most of the day. To sum things up, many of the reviews you have read, talk about families that have been going to Baumanns for years, and for generations. I personally got to experience this, as the guests were ultra friendly, and the majority that I met were repeat customers, and several groups were people who had met at Baumanns 10, 20 or even 30 years ago and return each and every year as a reunion. Baumann's Brookside has hosted my family for close to 50 years since my grandparents first started going. My family goes every year the week after memorial day and Carol and her team has always done a tremendous job. I wish 3.5 Stars were available as a more fair rating. So what you "Need to know" about Baumanns is that it is FAR from the Taj Mahal.... well, both literally and figuratively lol It's clean but severely out dated. Recently they've been doing minor updates to try and improve the conditions of their property. Baumanns has a little pond to go and relax at and also a large outdoor area with a fire pit and many tables with large umbrellas for shade. Lastly their food..... while it may not all be excellent, there sure is enough. read more

My family has been going to Baumann's for 40 years. When my (now) wife and I were thinking of places to have a wedding, Baumann's immediately came to mind. The entire Baumann's staff worked with us every step of the way, helping to plan and make the perfect wedding weekend. From the menu, the activities, the decor (which they also helped create, especially for our special day) everything was absolutely perfect. We had 130 people coming for the wedding including a rehearsal dinner, a ceremony on the beautiful grounds between the two ponds and an amazing reception in the Rec hall. The owners family also built a cedar arbor just for us! Everyone including Carol Baumann, her daughters, sons and grandchildren pitched in to help and partied with us as well! I highly recommend this place for some family fun, amazing food and perfect cozy atmosphere. read more

Baumann's hosted our son's wedding this weekend. The party started on Friday night and never ended until Sunday. The food was phenomenal, the rec hall looked like something out of a fairy tale, the grounds were magnificent, and the Baumann's family and crew certainly became part of our celebration. Well let's start off by saying that if you are disabled and travel with a service dog you won't get accommodation by management. My family has been going here for almost 20 years - it's a simple, down home reasonable place; but make no bones about it, that many beds for that many years is still called profit any way you cut it. I am now disabled due to cancer in my leg - and have a well trained and certified mobility service to help me with walking, balance, stairs and the like. Imagine my surprise when I, as a courtesy, called to say I would be traveling with my dog to a family reunion and was then told the dog was not welcome and had to go to a kennel. Did that mean I would stay in the kennel too since the dog is always with me? The dog assists me as a service, she is not a pet. My further explanation resulted in the proprietor hanging up on me after she I quote "was rendered speechless that I would even consider bringing my dog after she offers such great hospitality." "And it's private property so she doesn't have to comply" ADA compliance is a federal law, not an opinion. Amazing resort! This is a place that improves every year. We won't be going back. Really loved the place last year but they let us down this year. They didn't get they're usual attendance for Labor Day weekend so they cheaped out on us and didn't give us the Steak and eggs send off. The rooms were dirty and the carpets were badly stained. This place was great to take the kids to for the weekend. So family oriented and a great place to disconnect and spend quality time. We originally booked two night and ended up staying a third because the kids didn't want to go home. Staff was friendly, rooms clean and food was plentiful and delicious. This was our first trip to Baumann's and we can't wait to get back next year. Maybe this year again for Columbus Day if we can work it out. We wanted to go to the Celtic Festival at Blackthorn so my wife started looking for accomodations in the area. We only live an hour away but we wanted to stay the night and have a long Labor Day weekend up there. She found Baumann's and it looked OK to me and the reviews were great about the food and the fun and the great people, but of course we were a bit weary about an old Catskill resort. Well, let me me say that from the moment we got there (just in time for supper) we felt like we were special guests. We went straight to supper in the rec hall and found our name on the table and had a fabulous home cooked meal. At that point we decided we weren't going to the Celtic festival and were staying there the whole weekend and we stayed an additional night as well. This place is a true family run business and they are still in business for a reason. We hope to see all the great folks we met this Labor Day weekend next year. read more
