I joined Shoreline because they offered what I need that most gyms don't have; a purple belt female instructor with Muay Thai/competitive background, a black belt Gracie Barra bred instructor, an emphasis on mobility and understanding of deep fundamentals, and month-to-month contracts. What I didn't realize I'd also be getting was nearly private instruction, a view of Brazilian culture and traditional BJJ history, and a home/family feel at a gym that I've never had in the other many gyms I've been a part of (I move every year). If the gym size turns you away, your first step in becoming a better fighter is adjusting your priorities. There is plenty of space for great rolls and drills, you have the undivided attention of an instructor to clean up any slop in your movement, and you don't have a loud kickboxing class in the background competing for your ears. Your development is individualized on an actual program of building blocks, not a "let's learn a random sweep today" mentality. The cues and details in their brain are insanely helpful, and I've had massive breakthroughs in my jiu jitsu and overall athleticism. Bad habits I was always allowed to make that would've gotten me submitted or injured are getting drilled out of me and I'm gaining a LOT of advantage with subtle adjustments. Ladies, this is your sign to join. Heather offers insights from a really formidable background, and it's important to have the perspective in reference to a female physiology. You CAN toss around men who are stronger and heavier; she does it all the time! You'll learn momentum, mobility, speed and balance caveats that level the field. I started solely for self defense training. They're happy to teach to those parameters, but also are active in competing and refereeing, and I now am addicted to rolling and seeking comps. Coach Justin has been are coach for all 6 plus sessions we have done with our boys and his patience to help these toddlers is incredible. The way he incorporates fun activities to get them to run and include a soccer ball using their feet is very creative and he does a great job of making it interactive and knows the children's names very quickly. Coach Justin has an extensive soccer background, but whether you have a soccer background or not, this program is great to get your kids out running and around and learning how to work with others and play with others and dare I say share with others. This is a great program and the only program we have used sense moving to the area. When I ask other parents about other programs all of them (not exaggerating), have said this one is the best at keeping. I've heard from keeping them active the whole time (accept for those water breaks) to them having fun and meeting the young children where they are at and not expecting more than they can handle. As you can probably imagine, teaching soccer skills to a group of children under three takes great patience and creativity, and the coach we worked with showed both. The coach did a great job of keeping the kids interested by constantly changing up the drills and giving them new fun activities to do. The really impressive thing is that all of the drills seemed to be encouraging the development of actual soccer skills. I sort of expected it to be just a series of games that loosely revolved around soccer balls, but no. They worked on balance, eye-foot coordination, and general gross motor skills like running and jumping. And our class was small, so my son got a lot of one-on-one attention. We'll definitely be signing up for other Quick Feet classes in the future.
