I can't begin to say how NOT worth this campground is. First the beach areas are very small and filled with rocks so you can't comfortably stay on the beach. The Cafe is wayyyyyy OVERPRICED, the campground is boring and overcrowded. The General Manager is awful doesn't care about any complaints or concerns you have he's nasty and unwilling to help with concerns. The staff is nice they treated you friendly. It's way way way to overpriced isn't child friendly with only one playground that's not that nice. The maintenance staff is very nice and help in anyway. Not to mention Bar Harbor itself although beautiful downtown restaurants food is awful and with only t-shirt shops or ice cream stores so if you're looking for some shopping you'll only get t-shirts. So all and all I'd skip Bar Harbor and go to Candem Maine but if you go definitely ski the KOA. read more

Stayed here labor day weekend 2025, and to say its was a complete and utter disappointment would be an understatement. For years my wife has wanted to stay at this campground and when we finally made it happen it was such a disappointment. We booked our stay in March 2025, and reserved an ocean front back in site water electric. We arrive and they have is in a pull through across from the Ocean Front site we booked water and electric. My wife called the office to see if a mistake was make and Brenda at the office implied that my wife had no idea what she had reserved even though we had an email confirmation showing we had reserved an ocean front site. Brenda then completely dismissed my wife saying well we don't have any available anyway. There was no attempt to make this right whatsoever. We understand booking issues arise but for no communication prior to our arrival of the change was frustrating especially since we would have chosen a full hookup site had we been informed of the unavailability of an ocean front site. Our site was incredibly unleveled causing us to be unable to use the main entrance to our camper requiring our guests to walk through our bedroom to gain access to the bathroom and living room of our camper. We had emailed the campground about the experience as their handout requested to contact them before writing a bad review. Well it's over two weeks later and no one has responded to my wife's email. I would strongly recommend you skip this KOA they certainly do not care about your experience just your money! read more

Everything went well. We rented a camping cabin and service was spectacular esp since hubby had probs operating a TV. WiFi signal is weak but just about any campground I've stayed at had WiFi issues. Bus to Acadia departs from KOA and was especially convenient since parking at Pond Cafe is fairly challenging. No charge for the bus. This KOA is on their game! read more

We had soup for lunch at the lobster shack and it was yummy. Nice family campground. Short drive to Acadia National Park. Dog Park is small but I have labs. They like to run. Great day at KOA stands true at this location. What a wonderful place! Clean and well maintained. This is a perfect place to park your rig while enjoying the area. Pull-through sites are spacious enough to get in and out easily. They also have little cabins to rent if you don't have a RV. They have lots of dog pick up stations around and a nice dog play/run area. Large playground for the kiddos. The Red Lobster Airstream houses a little place to get some food...depends on day to what is available. I can't wait to come back and stay here again! read more

We rented a camper ( from a third party, who delivered and set up at our reserved site )and had a waterfront spot. Only here for a full day with half day on either side, but it was enough time to see what a great spot this is! Staff is genuinely friendly and our kids felt at home with crafts and activities available especially for them and ample room to ride their bikes. Food at the shack was delicious,quick and convenient. Island Takeout behind the gas station across from the campground entrance was walking distance and a little hidden gem. Close to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Ellsworth, which all had plenty of different things to fill your days. Showers and bathrooms were well maintained. Wished we stayed longer! read more

$80 a night to camp in your own tent here! I've never heard of paying someone $80 to put up your own tent and sleep! This is crazy! If you drive a few miles further towards Acadia National Park there is a hotel for $80 and a nice campground in the water for $36 a night. Skip this place for sure! Price Gougers! read more

This campground resort does not disappoint. If you are lucky enough to snag up a water view site it makes the experience even better. KOA always seems to deliver on quality, clean and family friendly sites. And this location is no exception. The kids had a blast riding on the train ride around the camp, participating in a scavenger hunt, and playing in the tidal pools looking for crabs and star fish. As a bonus, they have an awesome This location has a shuttle that brings you into bar harbor so you don't have to worry about finding parking in the small town. And is a quick ride into Acadia National Park. The resort also offers pump out service for your rig if you are not on a full hookup site. I can't speak for the other campgrounds outside the National Park in this area but We will defiantly be back again at this location. read more

Yes, a little pricey but WOW what a nice RV park! The staff is one of the kindest and most helpful we have ever seen. The park is wonderful and well maintained. The restrooms were always immaculate. The Honey Wagon was only $21.00 to empty 3 holding tanks. Very nice service. It has been raining a lot so definitely be prepared for mud and mosquitos. VERY NICE RV PARK!!! read more

We aren't the KOA type of campers, but given the beginning of the season and the late planning, we had no choice. Pros: 1. Clean facilities. 2. Decent store (doesn't open until 8am--kind of late for campers). 3. They escort you to your tent site. 4. Each tent site has a cleared-out fire pit and a picnic table. 5. Sensored lights that come on in the dark on the walk to the bathroom at night. Cons: 1. LOUD road behind tent sites. 2. No privacy. 3. A long walk to the bathroom from tent sites. 4. Only 2 shower stalls, although this could be a pro because they were more private than the camp sites. By escorting you to your tent site, they lead you to believe that the road is a private road. Turns out--it's not! We figured this out from the busses and cars flying by our tent site. I don't know much about people who use RV's, but after taking a trip to the bathroom (it's next to the RV section), I noticed there were hundreds of them packed in like sardines. Again, not sure if this is normal, but it didn't look like they had much privacy. Security does drive-bys a few times during the night. KOA got the job done, but it wasn't very conducive to my style of sleeping/camping. read more

This campground is nice and clean. We had a beautiful site right on the river/bay. We only stayed one night. We accumulated about a half a bag of trash. The next morning when we entered the dump station there is a large dumpster which I assumed was for trash. There was no sign that I saw stating otherwise. I threw our bag of trash in said dumpster. As I reentered my vehicle, an employee cam flying around our van in a golf cart and scolded us for throwing our trash in the dumpster. He said it was for ash and debris from the fire rings. He acted like he wanted me to go in after it even though he said I didn't have to after I asked. If it's not for trash, make a sign saying so. If there is a sign, make it bigger so people can see it. read more

If you are like me, used to rustic camping out in the woods, you will have to adjust your mindset to truly appreciate a KOA camping experience. This is not the place to come to to "unplug and get away from it all". It is more of a community-type of experience in a setting I can best describe as a greener, leafier, pretty parking lot. The sites are all very close together, and there are a ton of RVs and campers. Regardless of your type of accommodation, your neighbors will make or break your experience, as you will see and hear them throughout your stay. Hopefully you will have respectful neighbors, as we did. That said, the grounds are surrounded by natural beauty, the facilities are very clean and well-maintained, the sunsets are breathtaking, and the skies are chock full of stars at night. Tips: Bring chairs if you want to sit around the campfire at night. Tent and RV sites don't have them. The general store has most of what you need, including firewood, ice, laundry detergent, and more, but bring your own if you can. Everything is expensive here, including the onsite cafe. You're paying for convenience, as most shops are at least a 15 - 20 minute drive from here. read more

What a special place! We've traveled The best spots of 32 states now and this KOA is second only to our visit to the Olympic Peninsula. We got the best campsite for our needs with trees over us and secluding our slide-out side while giving gorgeous ocean view from our awning side. And the sunsets are breathtaking! Children and young at heart enjoy exploring the coast with tide pools steps from our door. We didn't have sewer hook up but they have a honeypot service. Water pressure is a little low at times but never posed an inconvenience. Adventures of every sort within short enough drives that we could come back and forth for our dog's needs. Acadia's sights, Bar Harbor or my favorite the Southwest Harbor area. I sure hope we can return soon! read more

Clean bathrooms, very friendly staff and nice grounds. The tent sites generally have decent space in between them, but there are no branches on the trees within 6 ft of the ground, so there is minimal privacy. A good family site -- there were lots of children, a playground, dog park area, and no partying late at night. Be warned that the oceanfront sites aren't all really oceanfront. They are near the ocean, yes, but only a few are directly adjacent to the water. Also, while the sandbox-type portion of each site where you pitch your tent is free of roots and rocks, it is very compact and hard - not what I expected when they said it was sand. Still, it's much better for sleeping than the rough terrain at many other campsites. Had fun exploring the waterfront at low tide with my nieces - it's virtually untouched and has lots of shells, seaweed and sea life to check out! read more

Loved the views and wished we could have stayed longer. The campground has a resort feel where they friendly greet in the store and escort you to your campsite. Delivering wood and ice is greatly appreciated. Nice bathrooms and showers. I'm glad that I booked an oceanfront site, the experience is completely different compared to being in a woods site. Great location! No joke, it's right on the ocean. You have direct access and can even swim in it a bit as the water isn't too deep or cold. In fact it's actually much warmer here than on some of the beaches in Acadia Park. Super clean showers, with nice warm water and a local radio station playing in the mornings. Beautiful sunsets too. Our spot was a little pricey for a campground, over $90 but considering the location of the park and the season not unreasonable. We stayed at this KOA for 2.5 weeks early this month. I generally like KOA's not because it's a great "outdoors" experience, but because it's kind of like McDonald's - they are predictable: you pretty much know what to expect. Sometimes we aren't as interested in the outdoor experience as we are having a clean, safe and secure place to park our camper while we spend all day every day sightseeing and hiking. OCEANSIDE KOA in Bar Harbor, ME was all that and more. Although it was just my husband and I, we did note a bunch of family/kid oriented experiences including a kiddie train ride. There is a lobster shack and ice cream stand in the premises, neither of which did we try, but I hear the lobster in particular is very good. We didn't use the bathroom facilities, so can't comment there. We did use the laundry room and found it clean and adequate. The front desk has more quarters if you need them. We paid extra for an "ocean side" spot (and so no sewer hookup) but I have a little trouble with that definition for a lot of the spots. It's more "tidal pool side." Some are much better than others: waterside and very wooded, some in a direct visual line for drop dead gorgeous sunsets - we just walked down the road to enjoy them. Ours was treeless, small and faced a tidal pool. I really wish you could pick your own spot at KOA's. I loved the location. It's at the top of Mt. Desert Island: Acadia National Park and the town of Bar Harbor were about a 20 minute drive. Additionally the towns of Trenton and the farther and larger, Ellsworth were right across the bridge - groceries, laundry, urgent care, all the stuff you need (except a Verizon store). Additionally the Island Explorer bus will pick you up right at the camp and take you all over the island for free! Mostly I want to heap accolades on the manager and staff of the park. The night before we were to leave, my husband slipped and fell while hiking and broke his left hand and required surgery (SO HAPPY with Mount Desert Island hospital and Northern Lights Medical Center in Bangor - but I digress). This was post Indigenous People's Day and the island and campground were trying to close up for the season. I found another campground in Trenton but talked to the KOA office to clarify which day we would actually have to move. They could not have been nicer and offered up immediately that we could stay until the services would be cut off, even though they were technically closed - I didn't even have to ask. We appreciated this extension of themselves so much - it saved us a bunch of time and energy and stress while we traveled to the hand surgeon and subsequently to the hospital for surgery. It was just a darn nice thing to do, and I guess the KOA difference! We would definitely, wholeheartedly stay there again. BTW: This was our first trip to Maine - I could write for 20 more pages about the beauty and splendor of this beautiful state. We hit peak leaf color and enjoyed every aspect of the coast from Portsmouth to Lubec. Don't hesitate to go! read more

Amazing place! Pros: literally sitting on the water, no spot is bad, super clean, this is the 4th or fifth time I have stayed here, always friendly, clean, super cute! Trolleys for kids, pet park, awesome place, I can't say enough. The location is perfect, near grocery stores and it is at the apex of the island, so you can go anywhere and not have to backtrack. There is also a free shuttle that brings you all over the island The campsites are pretty big, especially if you get a site on the water, it has tree cover in some areas, some not, so if you want shade, make sure you ask for it The cabins(this was our first time) are air conditioned, some have porches that are screened in, all of them have grills, and a fire pit, our cabin had a full size bathroom, bunk room (note: bunks are not for adults) and a pull out sofa, our cabin was pet friendly! Cons: the bed was SO uncomfortable, it wiggled like jello, that is how old the mattress was, so sad, I would have given it 10 stars if the mattress was just a little comfortable Also there is cable in the cabin, but iPad users beware, the Internet is slow on purpose, no streaming, download movies if you want to watch anything before you come here. So people with kids, be prepared to entertain the old fashioned way! read more

During covid staying in a cabin was a little worrisome, but we felt at ease with contactless wood delivery and the cleanliness of our cabin and the surrounding grounds. This place is beautiful! Staff was super friendly and the bathrooms and showers we clean. The sunsets were breathtaking and the night sky was all stars. If you needed ice or camp fire wood all you had to do was call the staff and they delivered it to your site. The drive to down town bar harbor and the park was only about 25 mins and there was plenty of lobster places to eat along the way . Definitely will be going back ! Camped here 4 nites. $99.00 a nite for a pick up truck with a truck camper. The only hook ups we had was water and electric. I have stayed at a lot of KOA's in the past and they are usually top notch for their price. I was surprised we didn't have a sewer hook-up or t.v. for price. Some of the roads weren't paved and our site wasn't very level. The staff couldn't have been nicer and were very friendly. If you stay here take lots of mosquito repellant. Would not stay during this pandemic if you at all are taking the pandemic seriously. Several times we walked into the front reception office to find staffers without masks on. We saw staffers doing cleaning of cabins unmasked. The person who showed us the way to our campsite was unmasked. The bathrooms were dirty nearly every time I tried to use them- a couple times so dirty I turned right out and left. When asked about cleaning they said they clean four times a day and I must have caught it at an off time. I didn't even bother using the showers at all during my stay. The majority of fellow campers were not wearing masks in the shared bathrooms or in shared spaces and no enforcement was in place for mask wearing in enclosed spaces or at activities with lots of people. Generally also the campsites were on top of each other with no privacy and they gauge you for things like ice and wood. Would not return during COVID or otherwise. read more

This KOA offers airstream trailers that you can camp in.. a wonderful experience! My wife and I stayed three nights in one of their air streams in July, and it was a definite highlight of our eastern seaboard vacation. The campground is situated on the water right after arriving on Mt. Desert Island from the mainland. It's a short drive to Acadia national park, a Bar Harbor, and a wonderful lobster pound just over the bridge. The campground was busy, so having our own bathroom and shower in the Airstream was a real benefit. Each trailer has a galley, but also offers an outdoor grill and a relaxing hammock. read more

Our initial stay here was 5 days in mid June 2015, but we extended it to 7 days simply because we loved the location right on the ocean. The drive in can be confusing as there are two KOA's that are both within 2 miles of each other and have some sort of affiliation beyond being KOA's. We drove through the non-ocean KOA and it was primarily a tent facility, with maybe 6 spots for RV's. So, if you stayed or are considering staying at the KOA Oceanside, you made the right choice. There are plenty of things to do and the highlight for us was the nearby winery, which is something out of our comfort zone, but was worth experiencing. Site: We had a back to back RV setup, which is something I had never seen in practice. It made for a somewhat tight site on the back side, maybe 4 feet between you and your neighbor. It was quite transient during our stay, I believe in our 7 days we had 3 neighbors to our left, 3 to our right and 2 behind us change. The last change out transformed our whole row into Quebec City, Canada. I believe we were the only Americans. It wasn't a plus or a minus. Pros: Pretty good bath house, Great Lobster dinner, decent breakfast selection on certain days. Location, Location, Location...you can nearly step out of your tent/RV onto the ocean. Great sunsets/night sky. Staff was generally friendly. Cons: Bathroom was out for 2 days during our stay. Firewood a bit pricey, opt for the nearby home owner self serve firewood. read more

"Boil Water Notice" is not what you want to see on check-in. What's worse is when management doesn't feel the need to make amends, other than to say "sorry for any inconvenience." Actually, it's not just inconvenient, it's that you're not supplying something we've paid for. Three things, right? A parking place, electric, + pure water - free of any "possible contamination," as the notice warned. And when it was pointed out to management that merely boiling the water once it came out of our tap might not be enough, since allowing any of it into our fresh water tank might introduce "possible contamination" there, so it would therefore be wise not to hook up at all, the answer was "well, that's your choice." The right answer would have been "we sent Charlie down to Walmart for a boatload of bottled water - he'll be delivering a case to your site." And/or, "we're taking X% off your charges for what we sold you but are not delivering." But, of course, by this time they had our money, so... "sorry for any inconvenience" was what passed for an accommodation. Aside from that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln? Well, this KOA is bayside, which explains the stiff prices. Unless you get a site right on the water, though, it's pretty charmless. Crowded, largely unshaded, with few and dated restroom/shower facilities. Spotty cell and wifi. No pool (afaict), but they organize some activities for the kids. A café is available, but since there are so many excellent dining options nearby (try the Chart Room, and don't miss the lobster stew), we didn't bite. In short, a poor value. read more

I give this campground four stars due to the fact we got the best spot n the park. 405 is by far the largest tent site with an unobstructed view. For $80 a night I want to see the ocean. The bathrooms were a little on the nasty side and the showers were okay. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would avoid the woodlands side. No view and I'm sure it is full of mosquitoes. Overall this would be a great campground for families with campers. I would come back again if site 405 were available. read more

Had an amazing few days at the koa Oceanside campground. Was our first time renting an RV and camping. The water views were spectacular. This is the end of the season so the campground had a lot empty spots. The staff were friendly and helpful but Pam and Danny went way beyond the call of duty.
