It was within easy walking distance of our hotel…read moreand offered a calm, understated dining experience that contrasted nicely with some of the more energetic restaurants in the city. We ordered the one-kilogram ribeye, which was cooked extremely well and more than enough food to comfortably share among four people. The Caesar salad was prepared tableside and was excellent. For dessert, we had the strawberry flambé, also prepared at the table, which was very well done and a fun finish to the meal. Service was a strong point. Our waiter was attentive, professional, and paced the meal appropriately. We went on a Monday evening, so the restaurant was relatively quiet, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. The only drawback was that they did not have their traditional Argentine roasted beef ribs available that night. If I were to return, I would aim for an earlier seating or a weekend visit to increase the likelihood of getting the ribs, which appear to be one of their signature offerings. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience. The food was excellent, the service strong, and the setting more quiet, rustic, and subdued compared with places like La Buena Brra. Our teenage kids enjoyed both experiences, despite how different they were. Highly recommended if you are looking for a solid Argentine steakhouse experience while in Mexico City.

The ambiance is nice and authentic looking, and some of the reviews are positive, but definitely avoid this place. I ordered the lechon and it came raw. I gave it back to them and instead of bringing me new food, they took the same piece of meat to the grill to continue cooking it. When they brought back the same piece of meat, it was overcooked and dry. So not only did they serve raw food, but they handled the subsequent situation terribly. They didn't even offer to remove the lechón from the bill, nor to offer a discount. My girlfriend's Milanesa was gross and rubbery. I am from Argentina and can tell you that this place is nothing like Argentine asado.

Nevertheless, I ate everything on my plate. Also, we ordered meat empanada and corn empanada---both are delicious. Prices are a little steep $40 USD for 2. Temperature of the food could have been warmer/hotter. Nothing came out piping hot. My favorite was actually the chimichurri made with spinach, cilantro, oregano, garlic etc. The salsa was too "pica" for me. Sesame sticks (served with bread) have that awesome 'crunch' I like so much. I poured the chimichurri on the grilled octopus ---that hit the spot! Also, those who are checking in on Yelp! should beware that this restaurant will NOT honor the Yelp 15% discount. We showed the waiter and the manager the yelp offer. Both are unaware of the offer. EVEN if you show them the yelp offer, they refuse to honor any discount!!!! We tried to argue with them. The manager first told us he would honor the offer, then 5 minutes later he came back to our table to tell us that he would not honor it after we had already ordered. The restaurant isn't very accommodating. I appreciated the quietness of the ambiance. I got tired of going to other restaurants where it was so loud with a dozen kids screaming and running around along with loud music. They don't speak much English. So it helps to speak Spanish or have someone with you who is fluent. The menus are 100% Spanish as they don't offer an English version. Come if you want a quiet place, don't mind spending a bit more, and don't mind paying full price. The food quality is very good and fresh. grilled meats are their signature items.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess and shown to our table. They have minimal English-speaking staff, but we didn't have any issues communicating. There is also patio seating as well.   Menu was split into different categories from appetizers, salads, steaks, pizza, pasta, and seafood. We were surprised at how big the portion was, plenty to share. We ordered a few items:   - NY dry aged carpaccio: This was a massive portion. Cut perfectly into thin slices. A great choice for an appetizer. - Brisket tacos (3): Comes with 3 medium size tacos. Meat was tendered. Two different sauces and with your usual toppings. - Ribeye tacos (3): Same with this, comes with 3 tacos. My favorite out of the two tacos. - Octopus on the grill: My favorite out of everything we tried. I love getting octopus when in Mexico. It was fresh and grilled perfectly. It also came with fried potatoes which we all love. - Peasant salad: A good balance to the rest of the meal. A refreshing salad with sweet tomatoes. - Grilled cod fillet: The cod fillet was just the right texture. The sweet potatoes puree gave it a nice balance.   The service was amazing. The staff helped pour our water and helped with plating our food. I really appreciate their attentiveness. Overall, this was a great experience and would highly recommend anyone to stop by for lunch/dinner if they're in the Roma Norte area.

I conducted my search, finding a few places online trying to locate a good spot in a city I've never visited. Gardela stood out immediately because of their communication, kindness, and dedication to making this event extra special for him and his friends. They truly created and planned the perfect event for the group and I truly could not be more grateful. Onto the food (their honest reviews)! They said it was a 11/10 dining experience overall. The food was incredible and amazing and these are some food critics traveling from major foodie cities. They planned a beautiful menu with Chicken Tortilla Soup, a variety of Empanadas, Picaña Steak and Skirt Steak, and Peasant Salad and Fries as sides. They said the soup was super delicious and flavorful. They said the steak was absolutely phenomenal and tender, it was very high quality meat. Also the salad really stood out as it was super fresh and crisp. Then they plated a beautiful dessert assortment as well as well as special happy birthday and bachelor messages to make the celebration extra special. The cocktails were also super delicious as well. They left the meal with their hearts and bellies very full. From everything, from the planning, to the the presentation of food, the service, and food quality, the team at Gardela went above and beyond. I really could not have picked a better place and now I am jealous because I need to go try some of the steaks because they had my mouth watering! Overall, I would highly recommend going to this restaurant. They said they were seated in a private room too so it made the experience even more special. My sincerest thank you to the entire team at Gardela for making this event unforgettable!

It took about 15 minutes to receive menus. We were given a dish of assorted salsas right away, but no bread or chips. When a server later checked in and realized our order hadn't been taken, we asked for bread, but it never arrived. Even still water took around 15 minutes to reach the table. We almost left, but decided to stay and try the food. We ordered the parrillada for two and requested the steak medium rare. Sadly, the steak came out overcooked and extremely salty. The grilled vegetables were also overly salty and tasted like burnt grease, making them difficult to eat. Between the slow service and heavy seasoning, this experience missed the mark for us. The salt level was so intense that my lips were literally hurting afterward. Sadly, this isn't a spot we'd return to or recommend.

Cambalache is an Argentine steakhouse, which is reflected in the style of grilling their meats (over an open flame, which can be viewed at the back of the restaurant), and the service of the meat itself (a La plancha, at the table). We chose the ribeye (600-700g) to share. It was perfectly cooked to medium temperature, and sliced for us tableside. A beautiful cut of meat, and very flavorful. The side dishes were tasty, too (the soufflé potatoes are a signature, and they're fun to try/share). Speaking of tableside prep, I highly recommend saving room for the strawberries Romanoff - our server spent about 20 minutes whipping a combination of vanilla Haagen Dazs, Grand Marnier, cream, and fresh-sliced strawberries into a fluffy concoction that was divinely yummy. Our youngest diner insisted on coming back to Cambalache a second time, a week later, just to have it again. It's not on the regular postre menu, so be sure to ask your server about it.
