I started going to Dr. Keck's office about 5 yrs ago, my husband 3 yrs ago and at that the time there were a few bad reviews but not like what is current! I agree that the place is not up to par and while its kept up it needs a deep cleaning, a paint job and new seating! I have always had all around good service but my last few experiences were less than. I needed a crown on one of my back molars. Dr. Keck prepared the tooth, took an impression for the crown and then installed a temporary crown. I came back 2 weeks later for the permanent crown, it didn't fit, the tooth was ground down as well as the crown but it was still too big. So a new impression was made and the temporary was put back in. 2 weeks later the same thing happened, another crown to big to install. The temp was put back in. 2 weeks later I came back and Dr. Keck was able to get it installed and I thought all was good. The following day I noticed an odd feeling so I booked an appt to come back in, the tooth was looked at and Dr. Keck said I might possibly need a root canal and gave me a referral. Now mind you I just spent a lot of my money as well insurance on a crown. I called my insurance and all they could do was "investigate" the procedure. I was in the midst of selling my house and moving so I had to put my tooh on the back burner. Meanwhile I was having soreness and inflamation around the tooth, and bleeding. I had an old prescription from Dr. Keck for antibiotics with a refills so I went to the pharmacy to get it refilled but they needed to confirm with the Dr. Keck. They called 3 times as well I called twice but could only leave messages. My message explained the inflamation, bleeding, etc. The calls were ignored. I am now settled and looking for a dentist. If the crown needs to be done it would be out of my pocket, I still have inflammation and occasional bleeding. I cant eat things like nuts, pretzels, etc which cause problems. Seems as though there are gaps in the crown that allow food particles to get in under the crown causing those issues. With all that said Ignored the issues most people had with this dental office but shoddy work and not caring enough to allow me a refill of antibiotics for the issues caused by Dr. Kecks are inexcusable. YOU SHOULD NOT USE THIS OFFICE PERIOD! read more

I had a problem with previous dentist since he couldn't fix my fillings. I knew it's time to find a new dentist when he said "I don't know why you're still complaining that your teeth hurts, I can't see any problems with it". I stumbled across Dr. Keck's reviews on Yelp and he and his staff are awesome! I saw Dr. Mack for a few times, she's very friendly and interested in building good relations with her patients. She did my fillings several times and did a great job. Dr. Keck also fixed the bad filling job that I got in the other dental office. He literally spent 5 minutes to fix it. Amazing! I just had my first visit here and it was a great experience! Spent around 2 hours here for my x-rays and routine cleaning. This office had a very home-like vibe, which was awesome! Well, aside from the fruit flies that were buzzing around the front office ... Since I was new and had a new dental insurance, they gave me a full x-ray. The Dental Assistant was a sweetheart. Awesome. Super attentive, friendly and knowledgable. She's also a hard worker. You can just tell. Oh, and she's fun! Great positive energy. You can call her Cha Cha! Dr. Beck was also funny and engaging. We chatted for awhile and he was definitely approachable with all my questions. As for my cleaning, let's just say my hygienist, Terry, did a phenomenal job! She had great attention to detail and really worked on every tooth. At my previous dentist, they would finish my job in less than 15 minutes. Not Terry. She spent over half an hour making sure everything was in top notch shape. Solid dental practice with no complaints. If anything, the forms needed to be shorten and refreshed. They definitely looked dated (but then again, the information needed is still the same). Do dental offices still give out free travel sized toothpaste or toothbrushes? I didn't get mines =[ ! This guy, and his staff, are morons. Very indignant and have no care to your needs or otherwise. I called for a routine cleaning, knowing that they were a provider on my network. They have an odd policy to do intake appointments for New patients (for which they bill) and then decide FOR YOU when you get yo have any other treatment based on their "assessment". Are you kidding me?? Sounds like they need the money and bilk your insurance for a "visit" but when it comes time to perform any work, they can "refer you" elsewhere or setuo a time months after you need a spot. I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning and check-up with ease here, and the person who answered the phone "Jerry" was very knowladgble and nice. I got in on a Saturday that worked great with my schedule since I'm a 9 to 5 worker M-F. Moving on to the doctor... I met with Dr. Mack who works with Dr. Keck (also seen him once-great guy).She cleaned my teeth and I felt so great during the whole time knowing that my mouth was getting cleaner because I have a such a dirty mouth. She was thourough, friendly,very up-beat, and professional. She reccomended my ass get the Sonicare toothbrush which my boyfriend already uses and since I've purchased it, I haven't felt cleaner healthier teeth. The inside is always nice and cozy and not too sterile. It's in a great location in the Castro across from Badlands too. So get your Teeth cleaned and go make out with someone there when your done. I've been going to Dr. Keck for about a year now as my general dentist. I go elsewhere for periodontal work since I've been going to that office for several years. I was a tad precipitous with my review of a previous general dentist, and so I wanted to wait before reviewing Dr. Keck's office. I'm very happy--five-star happy. The office isn't as slick and spiffy as my former rock star dentist, but it suits me just fine. The guys who take care of the front desk are efficient and pleasant. Dr. Keck's doggie, Heidi, is there all the time, and a more mellow dog does not exist. I love Dr. Keck. I trust his competence and skill, and I appreciate that he is a bit of a "wait and see" kind of guy. That may not work for everyone, but it does for me. He includes the patient in the decision-making process, a quality I really appreciate. He is funny and kind, and he is very much concerned with my comfort. Another feature I love (LOVE!) is that the office is open until 7:00 p.m. week nights and on Saturdays. I am nearly giddy with delight at not having to mold my schedule around my dentist's. Dr. Keck is popular and busy-- I had to make an appointment well over a month in advance. When I arrived I was greeted by his friendly dog Heidi. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. His technician was also wonderful. I am a medical student and very interested in my health overall. I was very happy that Dr. Keck went through all of the x-rays with me in detail and was very willing to answer all of my questions. read more

Dr. Keck is THE most reasonable dentist I have ever met. Both calm and calming, he's professional and has an amazing chair-side manner. The front office staff are friendly and efficient. The waiting room has a plethora of current publications and a comfy couch on which to sit, though I've never waited that long. When I asked about radiation, not only did Terry the hygienist have the exact answers about exposure, we made a plan about how to further minimize my lifetime exposure. My teeth are polished to amazing white every time I go. Dr. Keck assures that I'm at the peak of health for my dentistry. Is reasonable about what to do and when, and is sensitive to budget and insurance needs. I was so confident that I brought my two teenagers to Dr. Keck's office. My previous experience with dentists has been tragic. The guilt trips I endured from my prior dentists along with the in-artful poking and prodding just made me stop going. The last time I went to a dentist was at least 5 years ago. So recently, I was unfortunate enough to wake up with a really really really bad toothache (it was bad) and a grotesquely large swelling on my (face) cheek. I needed a dentist, and I needed one fast. I checked my insurance company's website and found the dentist closest to my home (0.43 miles away, to be exact): Dr. Blair Keck. I called Dr. Keck's office around 10:30 a.m. and his friendly receptionist gave me an appointment for 11:45 that same day! Wow! I had assumed I'd be spending all morning calling around to various dentists and begging for someone to help me. So, I get to his office and am warmly greeted at the top of the stairs by a big ole sweet Black Lab! (Her name's "Heidi".) How fricking cool is that! And she sits with me on the sofa as I fill out my paperwork. And his dental assistant, who took my x-rays, was sweet and friendly and comforting. Dr. Keck was very cool. Easygoing. Nonjudgmental. No guilt trips from him. He says something to me like: "we don't care what you've done with your teeth in the past; all that matters is that you're here now." I knew at that moment that I had, at last, found my dentist. I'll definitely be back. read more

PROS: - He's in the heart of the Castro so you can get to him via the Muni underground - His clinic is comfortable, clean and friendly... not overly septic - His staff are all great folks, friendly, helpful and just good people - He knows his stuff, gives good advice and gives it all with a great sense of humor - They send timely reminders for check ups and truly follow up - I'm the first one to see a problem with my teeth and go "needs this and that and that" and Blair Keck is a firm believer that you don't have to always spend money and get treatments... he's an objective dentist - And of course, HEIDI! Who makes it a point to welcome you, often just decides she wants to sit by you as you ponder your teeth and just grins! Call her fuzz therapy! First. I HATE the dentist. Detest, despise, deplore, abhor, revile, recoil ... the list goes on. I can handle any other medical thing, just stay out of my mouth. That said .... Dr. Keck and his staff are great. His office is nice, not over done, mellow, unassuming, and his very sweet dog comes to greet everyone as they arrive. I told them I had extreme fear. My last dentist just ignored my fears and plodded on. Including telling me I needed what Dr Keck said was unnecessary work. Dr. Keck and his team are without question the nicest most sensitive dental team I've ever dealt with. They made what is normally a very stressful process tolerable. I am very grateful. Well, that was easy. I just had my teeth x-rayed and inspected and scraped clean by Dr. Keck and it was all very quick and relatively painless. I've courted bad luck in the past by going for bargain-dentists, so I decided to try out a slightly more posh office than those in the Tenderloin. I'm pleased that I did; it's not that much more expensive and the experience is SO much more pleasant. Everyone's friendly, from Jerry the receptionist to Dr. Keck himself. There's also an affable dog in the office, which might suck if you have allergies but is pleasant company while you're waiting. They're super-organized and very thorough -- I've never had so many x-rays taken at once. Hopefully I'm not too radioactive now. For an x-raying, I paid $72; an exam was $41, and a cleaning was $61. (Insurance covered almost all of it.) That's only a bit more than I was paying in the TL office where they didn't speak much English and didn't notice how painful their pokings were. Dr. Keck's cleaning feels better than others I've had; I'm a little startled by how crisp the edges of my teeth feel now. And he was very sympathetic to the inevitable moments of discomfort that accompany a cleaning. They don't do a hard-sell for bonus features, either. About one slightly misaligned tooth, the doctor asked, "does it bother you?" When I said no, he said, "well then you probably don't need braces." I've been told by other dentists that I should have my wisdom teeth out, even though they don't bug me; Dr. Keck advised leaving them in unless they started causing problems. The only thing I'd change: a little more up-frontery about costs would've been nice. They didn't tell me how much I'd be charged for each procedure beforehand, and I'm too timid and shy to ask. I guess that's more my problem than theirs. As an added bonus, they have a number of video selections that you can watch on an overhead TV while being operated upon. I simply love this place ! Since the first time I felt very good in this nice environment. The place is well decorated, a sweet big well behaved dog welcomes you upon arrival, the staff is very smiley and nice, service is quick and efficient. I never really liked going to the dentist before (who would..?) and I have to say it is the first time I am enjoying going to the dentist ! I am especially giving this nice review for Kellee (the sweetest girl I've ever met) which is my dentist there, very gentle, nice and professional, and for the front desk staff Roger and Jerry who are always smiley, friendly and nice people. Kellee seems passionate and very enthusiastic by her work, she has great knowledge and is always very patient and meticulous which is enjoyable. I haven't seen Dr. Keck much but the few moments I spoke with him I found him sweet and fun ! Just had my first visit with Dr. Keck. He was funny and nice, and so down to earth. My previous dentist was quite posh with digital xrays and Italian furniture, so the rooms at Dr. Keck's seemed a tad dingy in comparison. (I was forced to change due to a change in jobs/insurance.) But I only had to wait 15 minutes for the traditional style xrays to be developed, and that's about how long I had to wait for my prior rock star dentist to see me anyway. What I really liked about Dr. Keck is he's a little more of a people's dentist. I totally concur with another yelper who said he doesn't push unnecessary procedures on you. If anything, he discourages the waste of money. He's just in the business of helping you keep your teeth. Haven't had my cleaning yet. Perhaps the 5th star is nigh. read more

I have been going to Dr. Keck since he purchased the practice from Dr. Foressi (whom I was a patient of for three years). He is really a great dentist who goes out of his way to make you comfortable. His staff is just as amazing - they both are incredibly helpful, treat you with so much respect and just make every perfect. I would highly recommend him to anyone, which I recently did. I couldn't imagine looking forward to seeing a dentist. Not before an ex-girlfriend introduced me to Dr Keck and his office a few years back. The ex-girlfriend is long gone but Dr Keck and crew have done a great job of repairing my smile and helping me maintain it. I had a few crowns, a bridge, some fillings, and cleaning/scaling done. The comments others have made about nearly painless work are true... the doctor is very concerned and aware about pain and sensitivity. I found Dr. Keck on Yelp, and I am so so so glad I did! You see, it is sometimes a challenge to get and keep my mouth anesthetisized. I described this when I met Dr. Keck. He was able to modify his usual dental techniques, and get the fillings done--all in one session. He kinda humored me saying that it was worth going the extra mile for somebody who was nice. Awww. Dr. Keck's dental assistant gives good hygiene instruction, and gave me an excellent and careful teeth cleaning. On top of being professional, she is a hoot. Dr. Keck's front desk manager Jerry is warm, welcoming, and totally on top of insurance and scheduling details. A true breath of fresh air. Especially after having been turned down from two dentist offices because my Aetna dental insurance is mediocre. And let's not forget Heidi who does an excellent job managing the whole show...from her large doggie bed aka the waiting room couch :) I am not sure why Dr. Keck doesn't have gas (uh I mean nitrous oxide), but after today's visit I wonder if I really needed it all those years... Any office where you are greeted by a sweet doggie is a winner in my book. Jerry at the front desk is always friendly too, but you can't pet him while you wait your turn. Dr. Keck doesn't overbook himself so my appointments always start on time, and I feel like he's paying attention to me and my mouth. He is very gentle with his instruments and has a laid back demeanour that helps me feel at ease. I don't like going to the dentist, but I know I have to. I'm very disappointed with this office. Dr. Keck is very nice and I enjoyed seeing him. His billing staff on the other hand is woefully incompetent. I saw the Dr. at the beginning of October 2013 and they still have not submitted the insurance claims properly so the bill can be paid and I'm receiving a statement every month. I like Dr. Keck. I also like Jerry the receptionist. Really nice guys. HOWEVER, the quality of work really botched up my teeth. I went to these guys a couple years ago. Dr. Keck gave me two fillings, one was a replacement of an old filling with cavities underneath it. When he first did the fillings I had to go back in because the replacement filling was too big. Meaning, there was no groove in it and it felt really huge compared to the one he was replacing. It seemed normal for him to have someone go back in to fix a filling. I have never done this. Skip forward two years, both fillings have MAJOR problems. One of them fell out while flossing. My new dentist said it may have been from saliva or some contageon between the filling and my tooth. The other replacement filling Dr. Keck put in was just too big for my mouth. It felt sloppy and my new dentist confirmed that. And there was still a cavity underneath. Dr. Keck's office location is great, Jerry is great, but the quality of work has proven really expensive for me. We tend to blindly trust our dentists as we haven't been to dental school. Unfortunately I would not recommend Dr. Keck as I left with my teeth in worse shape than when I went it. read more

Call me crazy but I think doctors should care about their patients or at least behave as though they do and treat every single patient with the same level of care and consideration. Dr. Keck does exactly that. He's super friendly, never condescending (regardless of the condition of your mouth), he's got terrific sense of humor but best of all he's the most skilled dentist I've ever encountered. He knows what he's doing and loves to help people achieve a better quality of life. I had some broken teeth in the back that we're rotting and causing me all kinds of misery. I was certain getting them pulled would be an agonizing epic stretch of horror and suffering but aside from the initial pinch of novocaine I didn't feel a thing! Not only that I was out of there in less than 40 minutes. I've been to dentists who work on as many as 4 patients at a time who've left me sitting in pain for hours While they take turns on us. Not the case here at all. Dr. Keck was there from start to finish and he gave me the respect and care every doctor/dentist should. A few months later my partner was having terrible migraines because of a broken tooth and he couldn't bare the pain. Dr Keck was kind enough to give us an emergency appointment at 9:30 pm and he spent over an hour making sure to get all the pieces of the tooth out. My partner hasn't had a migraine since. Dr Keck cares about his patients. He's ethical, kind, extremely skilled/experienced, reasonably priced, totally honest, friendly, and by far the best dentist I've ever encountered. Anyone who's been to see him would agree. This review is 100% authentic. I stand by everything I've said and I'm happy to answer any questions regarding my experience. There's a shortage of good doctors who truly care about their patients in this country so when I find one I'm going to make sure other people find out about them. After forgiving not being called back a couple of times, and this office calling me to reschedule one appointment in the past, today is the proverbial straw that broke the camels back! I had reshuffled my schedule and made an appointment to see Dr. Keck, I receive a call at 10am ( my appointment is at 11:30am) from the receptionist to say they would like to reschedule my appointment for today and could I come back tomorrow ?! Ridiculously unprofessional office, they must be making a lot of $$ to treat their clients so badly. To surmise, you're lucky if they call you back, and if they don't reschedule your appointment. The one time I have been there, the vibe was weird and I felt like everyone was hungover. Reading some of the other reviews, I feel lucky to be going somewhere else. read more

The office was a steps away from my home, and they made me feel comfortable to go there even when I wasn't too proud of my dental hygienes (a few missed spots, yuck!) Dr. Keck is nice, funny, etc. However, is receptionists are incompetent. First visit was good. It was the only time I actually got to see Dr. Keck. Second Visit: Dr. Keck was out sick. I showed up at the office for my appointment only to be told the Dr. was out. They left a message on my home phone...during business hours...they had both my work and mobile phone numbers. WTF? Third Visit (to make up for the Dr. being out on my second visit): Showed up 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment. Was told the Dr. was running a "few minutes behind." As the receptionist was telling me that, Dr. Keck came out and told a patient who had been sitting in the waiting area to come back to see him. After waiting much longer than I should have (40+ minutes), asked the receptionist how much longer I would have to wait, I was told at least 20 more minutes. I could not wait for Dr. Keck any longer. Again, WTF? If they knew the Dr. was going to be an hour late, why didn't they call me? Again, they had my work and mobile numbers...they could have called me to let me know there would be at least an hour delay for my appointment. Fourth visit: There will be no fourth visit. They have a "policy" which they tell you EVERY TIME THEY CONTACT YOU, that they will charge you a $100 fee for missing an appointment. They should pay their patients every time they don't inform you that the Dr. is sick or that he is running an hour + late. Sorry, Dr. Keck. Again, you are a delight. They are friendly, but quite a few things that I'd consider "sloppy" made me decide to seek a new dentist: -I visited this practice 4 times. The dentist only saw me once (for like 2 mins). 2 other times he wasn't even there! I'm ok with a hygienist doing my cleaning (the Asian lady that lives in the North Bay is great), but I'd like the dentist to a least check my teeth out for a few mins when I make a "dentist's appointment". -All 4 times I was billed for a "Comprehensive Perio Evaluation", even when the dentist did not see me and all I got was a cleaning... is that normal? -Every time I needed to call front staff desk it required on average a good number calls until they finally pick the phone (usually 3-5). They were not very good at returning calls either. Frustrating communication. -When I finally decided to go to a new dentist, the new practitioner asked me to bring my X-rays with me. Dr. Keck's front desk staff asked me to send them an authorization. I did so and requested that they confirm when the X-ray is shared with the new practice. I never got a confirmation. I am a patient of Dr. Keck. I mean I WAS his patient. I have never met such a careless doctor as doctor Keck. I have visited his office twice for a teeth cleaning procedure, at the end of the cleaning he usually comes and take a QUICK look at your teeth, he talks very fast and it always feels like he has some more important things to do than talking to you about your teeth. The last time I saw him we talked about my wisdom teeth that were showing up causing me troubles to smile and also about me gritting my teeth and that I need a night guard. I also need a crown for one of my teeth (he told me I need it when I first time saw him a year ago, and I needed to remind him about that the second time I saw him - he didn't remember and seemed he didn't have any notes on that). So he told me I am likely need to remove my wisdom teeth, and the night guard and the crown, and that he is going to check how much it would cost and get back to me. A few months passed - guess what, I never heard from his office. It feels like he doesn't care much about his patients, and I am not sure if he ever asked his assistant to check with my insurance about the stuff I need. Very disappointing. Looking for another dentist. Leaving 2 stars because the ladies who cleaned my teeth were nice. read more
