The absolute best BBQ that you will find anywhere near here! It's specifically also the best brisket that I have found outside the beautiful state of Texas! Everything else I had stacks up too! There are four styles of American BBQ. I would say they fall into these categories. Carolina's, Memphis, Texas, Kansas City. If there are others in your opinion, I don't care. That's all I believe in! My favorite by far is Texas. I love a good slathered in only salt and pepper, fatty side sliced, smoked for the perfect time, juicy brisket. My boy Blake has gotten it right! The setting is perfect, almost like the old mill was built for a different purpose that no one knew yet, so long ago. The decor, infused with days of the old, new interior additions, and the pictures of all of the pitmasters that have inspired him is so well done. We planned a drive from Memphis to Kentucky and went a specific route around having lunch here. I have been trying to get a visit since he was in the old trailer down the road. My only visit to Martin before, he was closed. Our server was like Southern Sweet Tea. Just dripping with sugary sweet goodness. She was a joy in my life for this great food moment! I should probably get to the food now I guess... I was here for the sampler platter. I knew that back in 2021! I didn't even need a menu. My kid is strange and got French Toast Sticks off of the Brunch Menu. I will say they looked great and came with a bad ass line up of dunking condiments. She ate almost all of it. She did also eat all of my sausage and Mac & Cheese too. C got the smoked chicken with Alabama White Sauce, added a sausage link, and had Brussel sprouts and deviled eggs with it. She fell in love with the white sauce at Big Bob Gibsons and seeks it out now. She loved it! She hates my BBQ quests most of the time but she even said we gotta come back here!! Win!! There were 4 of that had a late lunch there- very good timing. The service was quick and friendly. The food was very good. We shared the smoked cheese and cracker appetizer. Basically it was seasoned cream cheese that was heated, scored, and topped with hot honey. It had seasoned saltines with it. See pic. I'll have to try making this at home! I'd heard they were known for their brisket- it was very good. I brought one slice home for a dinner sandwich. My sides of fries and Mac-n-cheese were also very good. Lovely lunch here after a drive from near Franklin on a Thursday. The food was outstanding as were the sides. We took home a couple of desserts and especially enjoyed the Dulce de leche cake. Also took home a slab of ribs as well. The employees there were beyond helpful and patient with us as we were first timers. Probably the most friendly bunch we've ever run across. (Bologna in pic I got additional a la carte )The brisket is very black pepper forward. (Not Zavala's level black pepper) Last time a year ago I thought I might be just the slice I got but 2/2 times and both home runs in my book. Turkey is wonderfully moist and smoky. The ribs bit perfectly and I love the sauce in the house sauce with it. The corn bread had this cake like moisture and texture that balanced the bits of jalapeño. Oh I'm also a sucker for what I think is a sour cream based potato salad. Helps keep the fork moving with all these fatty meats. THE BEST PIMENTO CHEESE with garlic seasoned crackers. The food, however, is not only delicious, it is very unexpected and different for the are! Same goes for the fantastic ambiance, decor, and overall design of the whole restaurant and bar! I ordered the Smoked Cheese Dip appetizer with the seasoned crackers and for an entree the Run of the Mill (sampler platter) which came with smoked turkey slices, 1/2 link of jalapeño cheddar sausage, pulled pork, 2 slices of brisket, a fall-off-the-bone tender pork rib, fried Brussel sprouts, Mac & Cheese, and jalapeño cornbread. The Run of the Mill ran me about $26 (as of Mar '23), and is MORE than enough food for a second meal. I couldn't have sat there and ate all that if I'd wanted to after a beer or two and a large appetizer. The cheese dip appetizer is fantastic and very different, but those dang seasoned crackers are epic. You can add take-home packages of them bad boys for only $1/ea. and if you don't get some to carry with you, you're officially certifiable. Too good and wish I had more! Overall, great experience and food, just go when you have some time to kill and don't expect it to be super quick. This is a must try! Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. I don't even know if I could pick a favorite dish. The smoked cream cheese appetizer was absolutely delicious as was the Charcuterie Board. The fried pickles were such a unique take on them with bright flavor and a great crunch. The brisket and ribs were both so tender they almost fell apart and I loved the variety of sauces. The pimento cheese is also an absolute must have and the Brussels sprouts will make you happy to eat your vegetables. The bubba Cole, the run of the mill sampler, the pork chops, the deviled eggs; all amazing! The drink specials were also tasty and reasonably priced. Dessert looked amazing but to be honest I was so full I didn't even have room to try it. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. It has a great vibe for a family dinner or a date night. Unreal...just crazy good. I was traveling through for work and this place was recommended by a local friend. I started with the garlic wings which were simply on point, Just wonderful. I then moved on to the brisket plate with slaw and Brussels sprouts. The brisket had a nice bark with Smokey rich flavor and the sides were just as good. The vinegar based slaw was perfect. I sat in the bar area and was taken wonderful care of. The outside is clean and you see the smokers when walking up. They're prominently featured as they should be at a great bbq joint. Let me just say I was ecstatic to find Texas style bbq in Tennessee. The brisket was the best I've had outside of Texas. However, that's the only compliment I can honestly provide. My party & I each ordered the run of the mill sample platter. I'm allergic to turkey & asked if I could substitute the turkey for extra pulled pork. The waitress said it would be an additional upcharge to which I agreed. The food arrived with turkey & was sent back. Took twenty minutes to come back out with a different waitress. No turkey, but also no substituted pulled pork. The waitress was no where to be seen to rectify the situation. Each run of the mill platter sampler was also missing one of the listed menu items: the smoked sausage. Again, we tempted to notify the waitress staff about the issue. A different waitress who refilled our drinks just stared at us when we inquired about the missing items. Upon checking out, we notified the cashier & attempted to speak to anyone in a position of authority about it. Blank stares again. Oh, I'm sorry your incompetent staff messed our orders up. We are from out of town and family brought us here. They had told us about the smoked cream cheese, and we tried to replicate it before we came here, but now realize we're nowhere close to replicating it. Our only complaint is that they are closed the rest of the time that we are visiting! The smoked cream cheese is amazing. The seasoned crackers are fantastic. My husband said the brisket was the best he's ever had. I had the smoked Turkey and it was moist and amazing. My son, who rarely eats meats, ate 2.5 pieces of mine. The chicken strips are to die for. Oh, and the desserts! There were six of us, and we tried the New York cheesecake, chocolate cake, lemon icebox pie and turtle brownie. We shared and all had different favorites. Not the first time I've enjoyed BBQ from Blake, just the first time in his new digs Blake's At Southern Milling. The renovations done here are incredible and the décor is impressive, LOVED the etched glass behind the bar and the upstairs is beautiful. Sat at the bar and Avery took excellent care of me, got me something to drink, and put in my order for the Run of the Mill platter. Everything...and I mean everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Blake's Texas training pedigree for smoking meats is evident in what he serves. The brisket has a nice pepper to the bark and great smoke, the pulled pork is moist and tender without being mushy, the medallions of smoked turkey are at that perfect point of moist but firm, and the ribs just fall off the bone. They crumble the seasoned crackers onto the Mac & Cheese...excellent use of existing and new, and of course the pimento cheese is the bomb!!! I did try the Lemon Blueberry Cobbler with Honey Lemon sauce and it was gone after the first bite...no pictures available...LOL I love desserts that have great flavor but are not overly sweet and this was a great balance between the two.
