You know what, heck yeah. Tucumcari is sleepy. And that's okay. A burger at Blake's, however, is not. It's good. Dare I say - it's even a little rowdy. I usually wind up here just passing through and have had a hard time finding something reliable that's Not A Chain, so this fits the bill. I rolled the dice and tried the online ordering, and my food was ready a lot faster than I thought it would be. Granted, I ordered an hour before closing (sorry) so your mileage may vary. It's a little on the expensive side, but whatever. It's like a hundred dollars to step out of your house anymore. I got out of here just under twenty bucks for a double New Mexico burger, a large fry, and a shake. The patties aren't really seasoned, but they're cooked well, and if you add the chopped chiles and some bacon, you'll be just fine. The seasoned fries are tasty. The shakes are average, but sometimes that chocolate syrup predictability is exactly what you need after hours of driving. The folks working here are friendly and diligent. So, despite the fact I spend most of my time in Tucumcari asleep, this burger definitely woke me up out of the zombie haze that i40 does to people. Looking forward to my next stop here. Don't let the exterior or even the interior needing a coat of paint keep you from trying these amazing burgers Everything is made fresh to order which is a huge plus and they weren't busy so it didn't take long to get our food. We both got the double with green chilis and we added back. The burger was cooked perfectly and extremely filling. The seasoned fries were so good and fried to perfection. The onion rings were basic and wouldn't order again The brewed tea was fresh as well. I do wish you could get your own ice instead of having to ask for it. Overall can't wait to stop back by here. I went there for the first time. And it would be my last time ever going there. I ordered on the phone and when I went to the front cashier. And told them it was a phone order. I paid and I noticed all these other people for getting their food. And I went up to um to figure out what was going on with my order. And the cashier was so rude. She didn't want to do her job to check. And when they realized there's no more orders cooking they realized that our food was ready thirty minutes ago and then I told them what happened and they were being so rude about it.So we got to enjoy our cold food and never come back.Horrible service read more

I decided to try the local Blake's Lota Burger instead of going with the national food places. It was my first time so I asked the employee named Ray who took my order for his recommendations. I only knew I wanted some bacon on my burger. Ray recommended Blake's "New Mexico Style Lota Burger", with the Chopped Green Chili, Cheese and Bacon. He also recommended the seasoned French fries. So I went with his suggestion. The seasoned fries were amazing and reminded me of Jack In The Box seasoned fries, but Blake's are a lot better. The chopped green chili's provided a really pleasant bite of flavor. If I get a chance to eat here again before I get back on the road, I think I'd order the same thing except I'd leave off the tomato, double the pickles and double the bacon, have them salt it a little more and if it were at lunch I'd add some Jalapeños. I like that they have a lot of toppings available to choose from. I'm really glad I decided to try something new. Ray recommended the Cheesecake Milk Shake, and that sounded amazing, but I went with a diet Coke since I didn't want a lot of sugar at dinner time. I love breakfast burritos, eat them often in California and haven't bad one since I've been traveling America. So I was happy to see that Blake's has several different kinds of burritos on its breakfast menu. Ray recommeded getting a breakfast burrito with bacon, and add sausage and chopped green chili. Which is exactly what I was thinking. I don't usually mention employees in my reviews, but I asked Ray his name for this review because he was very friendly and eagerly gave me suggestions as a first time customer. The decor inside reminded me a lot of a California In-In-Out Burger style. There were several couples ordering when I arrived, and three people came in while I was waiting for my order. The counter person who took over for Ray after I ordered, talked to them like they were regulars. It says a lot about a place when it has regular frequent customers known by name. Whenever I'm in New Mexico I want to eat at Blake's. I LOVE their burger. We are driving back to the midwest from the west coast so I was disappointed that the stores were closed for Easter. I checked the website and saw there is a restaurant in Tucumcari. What luck! We ordered and looked for a table. Yes, the burger was great; the seasoned fries were outstanding; the onion rings were darn good; and the peach milk shake was fabulous. There was no way I had time for a picture because I was so excited to eat the food. OK, it was lunch time but several tables were unavailable because they had not been cleaned. I thought about some of the negative reviews and, even though I didn't want to pay attention to them, the place was shabby and not as clean as it should be. Paint is peeling and the general shabbiness made it look like a dump rather than a beloved, iconic restaurant. There is only 1 bathroom so it's 1 person at a time, male and female - and not at all clean. The staff was fine, neither rude nor very customer-service oriented. I hope the owners invest some money fixing the restaurant to make sure it's clean, maintained properly and that they have a better restroom situation. The food is great and I want to give 5 stars every time I eat at any Blake's - it hurts me to give it only 3 stars. It's about the food but it's also about respecting your customers. read more

This is the In N Out of New Mexico! Since 1952!! It was on Breaking Bad so I had to try it. Their claim to fame is the first hatch green chili cheeseburger. It's roasted. I don't like roasted chilies on hamburgers so I did not have it. Because it was not on the original menu I did not feel bad about this either. I wanted to be able to compare it directly with the other hamburgers that I've eaten. And.... It sorted tasted like a generic burger from a Greek hamburger stand. It was decent. Fries were the same. The onion rings were the standouts! However, the facility was rundown and dirty. I kept thinking, how can they not clean this place up and fix a few things. I have not been to a Blake's Lotaburger since our last trip through New Mexico. I lived in New Mexico two times and I always enjoyed Blake's. I was reading the reviews of the Blake's in Tucumcari. Some were not all that great. We decided to stop. So glad we did! I ordered two New Mexico Style burgers and a side of seasoned fries for my Sweetie. One burger for me and one for my sister. I ate part of mine, am saving the rest of mine for later. Oh my gosh!!! It was as good if not better than before!!!The burgers and fries were freshly prepared. I'm a truck driver and have had plenty of burgers around the world. I ordered the New Mexico Lota Burger. Over all it was a good burger. Better than Whataburger. The only thing I would do differently to put it higher in the rankings is to season the burger even if it's just salt and pepper. The jalapenos did give it some heat so if you're not used to that I wouldn't get the New Mexico burger. I asked for the bacon to be crispy and they did just that. The seasoned fries were great. I wish I could give a review of the food, but we didn't get to try it. I'm traveling with my child to attend a funeral in another state and don't have a lot of money. So we stopped in hoping to try this place. The floors were sticky, the bathroom had toilet paper all over the floor. No biggie - I'm usually a fan of dives. Except when I ordered. I asked if the burgers were 1/4lb or 1/3lb and none of the 4 guys working could answer. Ordered a kids meal chicken strips - which the menu says "served with fries and milk or drink". Except they rang up each separately so that a meal that should've only cost me $12 rang up for $20. A manger on duty was called out - and he said they have to be rang up separately they aren't rang up together... Even though the menu says they're included. Wow! I'm singing the praises for Blake's Lots burger hundreds of miles later. I ate one of the best fish sandwiches ever. I made it with the scrumptious food my wife ordered for me. Fish Sandwich and onion rings. I added a few onion rings to my fish sandwich. Then I poured some of the Blake's Special Sauce on the sandwich and that was it! I give the food from Blake's 5 stars. I don't agree with other reviews who say it's dirty or not kept up. It's always been clean when I've gone in there. The reason for the 3 stars is because of some of the employees. They are in such need of customer service training. I think we can mostly tell when bad service is lack or training or if it's from a bad attitude and just not caring. I run in to not caring more often then training needed. I always brag on local businesses but I'm always honest with the reviews I leave and can't sugar coat the bad service I got during my last visit. I placed my order through the app. When I went in to pick it up I was greeted which is great but then I said I was there to pick up an online order. The guy behind the counter literally threw the bag on the counter from somewhere underneath and walked off. I assumed it was my order since I was the only one standing there. I had to get his attention because I needed salt. He came back and put a big handful of salt packets on the counter and walked away again. I'm needed ketchup too but didn't even bother asking due to the attitude I'd already gotten. I'm not going to let bad counter service keep me from enjoying the good food they have. Just be aware. Between the filthy restaurant, not a clean table to be found, flies, couldn't get our order right, rude unprofessional staff blasting gangsta rap behind the counter, there leaves much to be desired.
