Our second stop this afternoon was the Buggy Barn Museum. What a cool place!…read more Frances Anne will greet you when buying your tickets. She has a lot of great stories and is so personable! Then, you wander around this Old West Town with a church, saloon, production office, Texas Rangers Headquarters and jail, mercantile, barber shop, undertaker and more! Some movies were filmed here and many of the buggies were used in films such as True Grit, Lonesome Dove, Hildago, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer and more. There are over 200 unique buggies, carriages and wagons dating from the 1860s - 1900s at the museum. Pistol Packing Paula was our guide and she knows everything there is to know about all the buggies in the museum. By the way, she's a world champion pistol twirler! Such a pleasure to listen to!

Pistol Packin Paula was the highlight of the event for me!! She was a very knowledgeable person about everything in the museum and on top of that we got to see her display her amazing talents of gun slingin and bull whippin!! She made the whole tour very interesting with questions for us and "surprises" in certain buggies that definitely caught us off guard haha. Loved our time together and my thinking of bringing my parents here sometime in the future as they would love this! I only had a very vague idea of what I wanted but she quickly zeroed in on a beautiful rainbow color gradient design which she sketched out and sent to me for approval. Her use of different colored and different textured glass gave the plate a truly unique look. It is so beautiful I'm not sure I can bring myself to put any food on it! I already have a second commission in mind for her at Masterpiece Glass.

I have been to the San Antonio missions on many occasions, but today I went on a guided tour by the…read moreAmerican Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (AITSCM) and it really was awesome. They didn't focus too much on the architecture, etc., instead they focused on what life was really like for the American Indians and the cultural issues that still exist today. A lot of history was covered, and they spoke about their current mission to bring cultural awareness to the public and the descendants of the American Indians who lived and worked at the missions. We met at Mission San Jose and after touring that one, we boarded a bus for the other three missions. Ramon was our guide and it is obvious he has a passion (and a wealth of knowledge) about his ascendants and passing the culture on to future generations. We learned SO much that we never knew about. At the end of the tour, his mother had some cultural dishes prepared for us to sample and they were REALLY good. Ramon and his sons also sang a couple of traditional ceremonial songs and performed a ceremonial dance to one of them. Keep in mind, the American Indians of South Texas were not like the stereotypical American Indians you see in the movies and on television. Don't expect to see what you have seen in pop media. Ramon, his mother, and his sons are all AWESOME. To sum it up, I have to say I came away with a lot of new knowledge and was very enlightened. If you are looking for a band, you might not be thinking that this is an important factor, but leading up to the wedding, it made a huge difference for me. Ron sent an email every time he received a payment confirming receipt and updating our new balance. Three weeks from the date of the event, he sent a brief confirmation sheet pertaining to our schedule of events. In addition, I provided him with an extensive script and schedule which they did a great job of following the night of.
