The roads and campus were really quiet on Saturday, and parking seemed to be available in their parking garage for visitors. Whether there were visitor designated spots, I wasn't 100% clear so I pulled into the first available spot. The museum is located in Lafayette Hall and while there was a security guard located in the general area, there doesn't seem to be an employee on the weekend to provide information or answer questions on the art. The signage was not the most comprehensive I've seen, and it was very small (two rooms that seem to be for rotating exhibits, a hallway exhibit on Little Liberia, and other older pieces on the second floor). On the other hand, it was also free. The art was beautiful, the Little Liberia exhibit very interesting, and it must be great for students who will be on campus already to be able to enjoy the works of art. As a visitor, particularly on the weekends, you may want to note this will be a quick stop and have plans for the remainder of the day.

The owner was beyond accommodating he clean up the Art Space prior to the event. He also included tables and chairs that I was able to use to seat my guest a refrigerator to store any kind of food and or beverages in speakers to hook up a phone or laptop to to play music in lieu of a DJ. The price per hour that I paid was phenomenal for the art space that I was renting. It's just the right space to hold 30 to 40 people comfortably and did I mention that he has central air that keep my family nice and cool while enjoying a great evening. I wish him nothing but success in the near future and will be recommending him to anybody that is in need of a space to have a baby shower a get-together a sip and paint just about anything in life to Bridgeport creates. Also in the "antiques section" of Seymour so you can spend an afternoon browsing through other stores in walking distance. You will see the main desk there which is super cool...as well as other furniture sold there all hand made and radically designed. These are sold on ironchinchilla.com. The store will order any piece you want though and have it sent there. That is, if you have the money..NOT CHEAP! :) I just found it very cool to look at the art. Go take a peek..

Yay Chris Wright and Joesph Piccillo --- great show! Their opening was fun and brought in a…read morerefreshing crowd. It wasn't "hoppin" like the gallery across the street that was bringing people into their opening with Heinikens, but rather a crowd of art enthusiasts (young and old) that were all up for mingling and good conversation. This place isn't ideal as far as galleries go, but they know how to use their space even though the layout is a bit weird. It felt crunched during the opening so I do suggest going during normal hours (Tues-Sat, 11-6) to view the artwork. As I said - Chris Wright, Joseph Piccillo, and Robert Hendrickson (?) are all on view currently. The current exhibition at the George Billis Gallery is a replica of scenery and a play on real life…read morephotography. Stephen Magsig and David Lyle both paint with oil their visions. Magsig focuses on landmarks of NYC while Lyle mixes the nonsensical with everyday life. I love being in New York. I love watching NYC in the movies. I love talking about NYC. I love how Magsig depicted the streets of NYC. One could almost hop right into his paintings. It was like a tour of the city in a confined space. Lyle had a guestbook. I signed in and wrote to him that his art made me feel normal for wanting to eat the soap at Bath & Body Works. If you love NYC and all of it's eccentricities, then you will love the George Billis Gallery.

This is a nice mid size museum at the edge of the Yale campus. We spent about two hours here. It…read morehas everything from sculptures to modern art pieces. The current exhibit on Indonesian textiles was very interesting. I also enjoyed the many pieces from Picasso and Kandinsky. They even have a Calder mobile. We also enjoyed the William Blake exhibit with his poems and prints. The staff was nice and friendly. The museum was clean and their map flyer really helped us navigate through the many rooms. Free admittance and free lockers are provided in the basement for our big purses, coats, and water bottles.

During select times on weekends, they have several operating model train layouts of HO and larger scale Lionel trains. They also have a scavenger hunt for kids to find hidden figurines in each of their themed scenes. They also have a Christmas Village in their loft that is well done. Lots of vintage history to see for adults, and the layouts are interactive enough for kids. Pushing several buttons on the sides of the layout tables makes some of the train figurines or items move. There is a modest admission charge for non members. Expect to spend about an hour on site. Highly recommended.
