Do you enjoy the smell of sweat and using dirty/broken equipment? Then this is the gym for you! Want a guest pass? That'll be $20 for one day, please! The first thing you'll receive upon entering this "gym" is a slap in the face by the overwhelming stench of sweaty balls and old leather. Walk a little further and you'll meet their staff, they're great too! Relentless attitude, scoffs, and you're definitely on your own if you need to find anything because they sure won't help you! You need dumbbells? Well you're in luck because now you get to go on a hunt to find the right ones because none of them are in order, or even there at all. It's as if they're trying to say, "Hey, while you're working out your muscles, you might as well work out your brain too!" If you get off on sitting on cracked and worn leather benches then this is definitely the gym you're looking for. Not a single bench is without a rip, crack, or stain! There's even some leftover "seasoning" from the last person who used it, because God forbid they supply you with disinfecting wipes. Let's not forget the cardio equipment. Rhythmic squeaks will lull you to sleep, peeling labels will sure get those brain muscles flexing, and sometimes they're missing handrails, because you clearly need to strengthen those stabilizing muscles! I would sincerely recommend going to any gym in cape cod besides this one if visiting or just looking for a new gym. The manager and employees here are trained to make up rules and prices to squeeze more money out of customers. Excited for to pay only $8.88 a month for the summer? Just wait and see what requirements and fees the crew will think up for you! "Must be a local", "must pay from a checking account" were some of the better ones I got. In the end, I was cajoled into paying 40$ for a week pass. "You're getting a bargain", "We don't even have to do that," I was told. Gym experience is quite bad as well. After moving out of state and revisiting the gym I noticed the name had changed from workout world to blast and also noticed the improvements! The showers were also cleaned the morning I was there... I was bullied off a machine today, by trainer (RYAN), who told me "trainers get preference to use all machines over regular members" and I then over heard him talking about me to the girl behind the desk. I asked to speak to the Manager (Naomi) whom wasn't grasping the issue of Ryan (her employee) intimidating and being outwardly aggressive towards me, glaring at me and saying "go ahead keep talking" as I explained the situation to her. I guess Naomi couldn't resolve the issue herself so she provided me with the phone number for the corporate customer service rep out in CA (Tamara) who asked me "well how long were you on the machine for" "were there any witnesses, because it's your word against his" - - as if I did something to warrant the attack and should also have to defend it? completely inappropriate. Ive been going to this gym for a long time. I understand gym etiquette. and I am respectful of people everywhere in every aspect of my life. I politely told Ryan I was using the machine. But He saw me as someone he could scare away. It was wrong. Now I am left to wonder - if I were a man would he have treated me the same way? snapping the rope off the pully system I was using, throwing it on the ground at my feet after I said "hey I'm still using that" would he have spoken to me in such an aggressive way? I seriously doubt it. He saw me as a woman that he was much larger than, that he felt he could bully anyway he pleased. Some of my friends have said "ugh you should stop going there". But I have been a member of this gym for 10+ years - through many name, owner and management changes. I will not be a victim of the new employees. I want to be heard, I want someone from this company who gets that this incident was extremely wrong to contact me.... please tell me someone in the Blast corporation gets it. read more

My family and I have been members of blast fitness for two years and it is the only gym that I will workout at in cape cod. It has a well-managed staff that is extremely friendly. Promised 24 training sessions when I paid and didn't get one. Now hands have changed and can't get a refund. The trainers said it was blast fitness responsibility and blast said it's the new trainers responsibility. The new trainers want another $500. Do not trust them. read more

Note: Blast Fitness Mashpee has been taken over by Planet Fitness effective November, 2018. I don't plan on shedding any tears for Blast Fitness. Addendum: Today I visited Blast Fitness Mashpee for my workout. The manager on duty walked over to the treadmill and informed me that I have been BANNED from the club. Reason: After getting nowhere trying to find someone responsible to discuss the ongoing maintenance problems, after an internet search I found the name of a Region Manager who was involved in pleading health violations for this facility and reached out to him on Linked In. He did phone me. When i attempted to explain the numerous concerns regarding equipment maintenance and lack of management response, he informed that I was being "unneccessarily hostile" and wiuld not listen to me if I continue to have "an attitude". I hung up realizing just as all my other discussions with Blast Fitness, this was going nowhere. It is actually a relief to be out of there. It will cost me more, but i will be treated like a customer and a human being. I have been coming to this facility for 10+ years. It has been under a lot of different owners (Gold's Gym, ABC Fitness, Blast Fitness, now apparently part of Crunch). The current iteration is the worst - my recommendation: if you have a choice go ANYWHERE other than here. The place looks and smells old and tired because it is. The equipment is ancient and in terrible state of repair - their have been 9 pieces of equipment out of order at least since Memorial Day (10 weeks). Nobody can address when they might be repaired. The Manager (Naomi) is surly with a lousy attitude. She is frequently not there and does not return calls. You cannot find the name of the owner or anyone else you can speak with to address the issue of the equipment not being maintained. They blast the music making it impossible to use your own video or audio. When I asked them if they could turn it down, the response was "I don't know how to do that". read more

I had originally written a review about Blast because I had a problem with Thryve. Since then Thryve has resolved the issue. Blast is still a bad gym. This place has potential to be a great place to work out but the customer service, machines, appearance, all need work. The layout needs work too. Its kind of dark in there which is weird. The owner needs to do something about this place. If there was a Planet Fitness in this area they would take all of Blast's business. read more

I had the worst time trying to get out of my membership with blast fitness. We were told we had to go in, sign papers and then mail them to some company. While that was obnoxious enough we did it and still got charged for months afterwards that we didn't even use the gym for. Finally we called and after much hassle they let us cancel but we'll never get the money back they basically stole for 6 months. read more

I have lived in Cape Cod for over five years now and this has been my favorite gym. Now under new management, the gym has purchased many new machines and cardio equipment. The Group Classes are phenomenal and the staff is friendly. I recommend this gym to anyone. It may look a little outdated, but the Cape is known more for "Mom and Papa" sort of gyms. Being from California this one reminds me of a franchise gym than any other. I appreciate the gym and the staff. read more

I see a lot of negative reviews of this facility from some younger folks who sound like spoiled children. I have been working out here for a few months and I have never noticed a "sweaty ball smell" per the lady below with the one star rating. It smells like any other GYM would. The weights are put back reasonably well. The price is reasonable, and if you're complaining about paying $40 for a one week pass, well that's on you. The equipment isn't bad and it works compared to my last gym where you basically had to bring a wrench if you wanted to sit on a bench. I don't expect much more from a gym in this price range. If you want high end equipment then go to a more expensive gym. I've had issues with people using multiple machines or benches at once but that occurs everywhere. Been to a lot of gyms here on Cape Cod and the $$ you pay can leave you feeling less than fit !! Sent a week vacationing on Cape Cod and worked out here every day! This is a great gym with very a friendly staff! Naomi was fantastic to allow me to workout here as a member of the U.S.A.F. Horrible gym. I went in to sign up with my infant son with me and went through the whole process... after the fact I was informed that there is a minimum age of 6 months... I have a 3 month old. The ONLY reason I was choosing this gym was for childcare. I figured I would trial for a week and see if I could fit it into the family schedule and be able to slip away... didn't happen. I went in to cancel because I was told I had to fill out a form.. then emailed the form and was told I had to call a number... first I was told I would be able to cancel with no problem then they said I am not eligible for early termination and it would be $100 penalty to cancel due to what was stated in my contract. I never received a contract. 2 wks later I am still waiting on management to approve or disapprove me for canceling without penalty... but I received a contract through email... with the wrong address on it! Horribly run business. Bad customer service and the childcare area is tiny and needs updating. Wish I had never signed up. read more

I'm not understanding all the bad reviews... I joined blast over a year ago and for $20 a month you get free childcare and the classes are totally awesome! I take Zumba/cardio dance..love the class Toni is awesome! They just put all brand-new machines in less than a year ago.. literally they replaced every single machine in the whole gym..all the staff are really friendly... I'm not sure what else people are looking for for $20 a month but total package here! There's even free tanning!! I am so happy I found this gym as I used to go to women's workout in Hyannis and it was awful they charged me nearly $70 a month and I would get penalized if I didn't show up at least eight times a month. The fact I have to give them one star to write this is ridiculous... So let's list off all the negatives -no one knows gym etiquette *can't re-rack weights properly *people always take your machine when you grab water at the bubble even if your jacket/keys are on the machine *machines stay filthy, no one wipes them down after use -Management sucks *likes to make special exceptions to few (not even staff). -Their private studio room is only for classes which are platinum members only, when classes are not in progress the room remains locked even though in the past you could use the room after hours. People have been allowed to use it for posing even though it's against their rules. I've even specifically asked to have the room open for doing my ab routine (which I was told no) -me and my group of friends have done deadlifts in the floor, which anyone who knows how to lift knows they aren't that quiet. We were told that we would have to do deadlifts when the classes were not in session due to it interrupting their workout. On the flip side these classes are allowed to have the door wide open, screaming "woot woot!" Loud enough to be heard even with headphones on blast. We brought this to the managers attention and he was too socially awkward to resolve the situation saying it is what it is and he couldn't do anything about it. -I brought this to the assistant managers attention trying to request that the doors be shut because I was blowing my eardrums out trying to block the "woot woot!!" Out with loud music. I also explain the deadlift situation and how it's very one way and she began to explain that the room was too crowded so the doors must be open (which makes no sense considering it does not give the class anymore room). She then proceeded to lecture me on how to properly deadlift, even though she isn't a trainer!!! This place gets two thumbs down, nothing is maintained well (i.e. Dust under benches, machines never oiled, barbells that have been around before it was blast and before wow, machines always broken and take months/years to fix). This establishment only cares about numbers, not the people that are their, more people is better for their business. This gym is very poorly run and the staff there is beyond rude. I have never been treated with such disrespect and I will never go back there again. I tried canceling my membership and they said I couldn't without signing a waiver, waste of my time since that means I have to go back in and see that horrible manager. I first started going here when it was Workout World and then rejoined when it became Blast. I am SO glad it switched over! It's definitely a busy gym after work, but I think that's mostly because everyone is gearing up for summer. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and even though it gets busy they do a great job of keeping everything, especially the bathrooms, clean. There's always someone vacuuming or disinfecting. They have a good variety of classes, a ton of treadmills and ellipticals, and a lot of weights. I never feel intimated weight lifting even though I'm a girl. Plus I love the hours and the tanning and all for $20/month! I love coming so much I even got my brother to sign up and he likes it as well. Highly recommend read more
